Inside the building there was a printed notice saying they operate Friday-Saturday only, but their Google listing still shows normal weekday hours. Communication was terrible from start to finish. Calls were often ignored, "I'll send it tomorrow" turned into days of silence, and nothing was clearly explained in writing. The pickup situation was the most frustrating part. He called and told me to come at 7:30. I started driving. Then he changed it to 8:00. Then he changed it again and told me to come "tomorrow at 12 during business hours" while I was already on my way. Complete disrespect for a customer's time. For the "diagnosis," he claimed there was a cracked LCD (lower left) and said the screen must be replaced, but refused to provide any clear photo or proof. He kept saying the screen is dark and only sometimes turns on, so he "can't guarantee a picture." I asked multiple times for proof, pricing, and a written explanation. I received none. He was rude, kept interrupting, and repeatedly bragged about being "15 years in business" instead of answering basic questions. He also insisted I told him I dropped the laptop, which I never said. After a few days he called and said he doesn't have parts available, and then suddenly demanded $88 for diagnostic, which was never clearly disclosed upfront. When I came to pick up the laptop, he told me he "doesn't want to do business" with me. I immediately took the laptop to another repair shop and they said it would not power on at all. Once I looked at the Mac that was listed for sale I discovered that the Mac that I had first inquired about would not update to the latest MacOS version. Then they had another unit that was double the original price. They indicated that the more expensive of the two machines would update to the latest OS (which it did) and they also indicated that I could add this machine to my AppleCare One insurance plan so I went ahead and purchased the more expensive unit, I wanted to pay via Credit Card. They told me if I paid on credit they would have to charge me tax ?! They suggested that I use their preferred finance company so I qualified immediately and left the store. When I got home, I phoned Apple and was told that I could only put the machine on the insurance plan if I was the original owner and had proof. I was not the original owner so that was the end of that. Here we are six days after purchase, I went ahead and paid their finance company off so that was one less bill I had to worry over. For the privilege of using their financing I was charged $36 on an agreement that was supposed to be 100 days interest free. I also just discovered the power adapter that they gave with the unit is definitely not Apple OEM parts. Every time I touch the computer, you get a small static electricity type shock because there is no ground wire on the power adapter that they gave me. We are now all in at $1,337 and I have to go to an Apple Store to get the proper adapter which is probably going to be another $100 or so + tax and I may look at getting a new battery put into it. My best guess? I am into a used 2021 MacBook for around $1,500. I would have been better off going directly to Apple and getting a new machine for around the same price. I did call and mention this to the store, they said I would be better off getting new equipment. I asked the lady on the phone if they would be able to offer better pricing than Apple and she said: No, we are retail." I asked her what benefit I got purchasing from them, she remained silent and with that I said "I don't see us doing any future business together" Without saying anything else, she hung up on me. I think this place caters to the Hispanic Community and to folks with no credit or bad credit. My advice to anyone reading this would be to STAY AWAY from Magic Phone. Walking into GadgetMates, I knew I made the right decision. The staff was friendly and very direct with pricing and timing. The person I inititaly spoke with even had the same laptop as my husband so he knew what to ask for right away. I left my info and they provided me with a card and ticket number, tagging both my laptop and charging block. They texted me all along the way. Once diagnosed, they called and let me know the damage. It was a reasonable charge for what was wrong. They had to have the part delivered so they quoted a specific amount of time but luckily for us, it was ready early and we picked it up the day we flew out of town. Literal perfect timing. They also were really good about letting my husband pick it up even though I was the one who dropped it off. The shop itself is clean and tidy and there are quite a few things to look at. I dropped off my laptop at 2:30 p.m. for what I was told was a simple job: remove a RAID controller, copy data, and install a second SSD. I was promised it was "easy," that data transfer was the only real step, and that I'd have it back by 2 p.m. the next day. I was signed up for text updates--none came. At 5:45 p.m. that same day, I called to check in. I was told the transfer was "60-70% done." Two other people heard that call. The next day was a string of delays, missed calls, and vague updates. By 4:30 p.m.--well past the promised deadline--I finally learned the truth: no data had been transferred, no work had been done, and the laptop hadn't even been turned on. (Alienware logs don't lie.) Then came the real problem: Jonas. Instead of owning the failure, he pivoted to condescension and denial--telling me I "don't understand RAID," insisting no one promised a next-day turnaround, claiming my SSD was defective (it isn't), and denying statements multiple people heard firsthand.
