This is a fun restaurant with food made with creativity. I don't think this restaurant has any issues with bringing in customers as there are lineups out the door but a lot of similar restaurants at times have talked about making sure they are profitable and are able to keep their doors open. To make a reservation at BBs was not an easy process so I tried to call multiple times as well as connect on social media. Never received a response. I've seen this dynamic in other restaurants and when I go into the actual restaurants to get a question answered say in the mid afternoon when its not busy there are often multiple staff standing around not doing very much but never answering the phone. I'm unclear whether they just have a policy to only talk to customers in person and have a social media presence so they never respond directly to customer inquiries even when the staff are not busy? I understand the switch to social media to save time and energy for staff on reservations and dealing with deliveries, but to try to call on different days and different times over a period of about a week when I needed to change my reservation for a larger group and receiving no reply when they hold $20 per person on the credit card can be an unnecessary time-consuming hassle for the customer. BBs does not seem at risk of running out of customers but for other restaurants who are similar in terms of not being easy to contact then complain about the business side of running a restaurant and potentially not being as profitable as they would like to be - they might want to consider it from the customer point of view and how it might be easier to just cancel an entire reservation than play guessing games with the restaurant staff about reservation details that hold credit cards - especially with larger parties. This is exactly what happened here until I was finally in the area and decided to just walk in for a table with a couple of friends. But glad to have made it - restaurant was beautiful, the colors are soothing, and the staff are attentive in the restaurant. Also appreciated the modern take on authentic flavors and would love to make it back to try the rest of the menu. read more

On my birthday this year I decided I wanted to go to BB's because it's a Filipino restaurant I've heard nothing but good things and even better food. Nestled on a side street, I almost missed the place because I didn't see their sign. But that minor misgiving was easily washed away by the coziness of the place; it reminded me of a small-town diner setup without being too crowded. My friend and I tried the tasting menu, which was very delicious - we started with their ahi tuna kinalaw served with taro chips. Lechon was soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, but some pieces were extra fatty. Ginataan was similar to coconut curry. Veggies were perfectly cooked. Pretty good homecooked style Filipino food offerings. Stopped by for dinner and got: - Bangus Sisig: Would have liked a bit more sizzle to get more crispiness. Not Portion size is definitely sharing. - Lechon Kawali: Some pieces were perfectly crispy, others were a bit too fatty or chewy. - Fried Chicken: Nice crispy skin, good juicy interior, would have liked a bit more kick to the taste. The kitchen draws on the full breadth of Filipino cooking, from morning silog plates to evening sharing dishes of lechon kawali and bangus sisig, and the cooking is, at its best, genuinely accomplished. The pancakes -- dense, biscuit-like, and properly satisfying -- are among the more memorable items on the brunch menu. The housemade longanisa, sweet and fragrant with garlic, is a sausage worthy of serious attention, and the garlic fried rice that accompanies it achieves the ideal balance of crunch and chew. And yet, for all its considerable charm, BB's raises a more uncomfortable question about what recognition actually measures. The Michelin framework, however prestigious, was not built around the sensibility of Filipino dining -- its registers of refinement, plating, and concept-driven cuisine were shaped by a very different culinary tradition. When a restaurant like this earns notice, it is worth asking whether it is being celebrated for its authentic expression of the Philippines, or for how legible it is through a Western lens. NGL: Thee best fucking Filipino food I've had outside of Daly City, CA My family of 5 and I came to Bb's on our trip to Toronto, CA visiting extended family. As a born and raised SF Bay Area Filo, I hardly trust any Filipino restaurants outside of home. Yet, I was totally blown by the flavor of several dishes that we chose. For our family, we did 4 dishes & 4 sides of rice. We did the ribs (recommend), veg ginataan (MY FAV lmao), pork belly (not too greasy and no game-y taste), and pancit (that was gone in 5). Drinks were delicious. Def try the Pandan and/or Calamansi mocktails. Mom loved her pandan drink for its refreshing simplicity and pandan and biko coconut flavors. Get the Calamansi ginger mocktail if you want something more crisp and zest. Service was prompt and attentive. My pops even said our waiter was very kind and sweet. Chef even came out to thank us and say his hi. Cherry on top was the desserts that we tried: calamansi pie & white rabbit panacotta w/ ube cornbread and leche flan sauce. Service was kind of enough to treat us like family and gave it on the house because of some celebrations! Best of all was that it wasn't too sweet Ambiance was abit intimate which is perfect for date nights, yet it may be snug for bigger parties or family style dindin larger than 5. However, I didn't care too much. Overall, shoutout to the chef and boys at BBs. It was perfect to have a good dinner meal that tasted like home, YET might have gagged Tita and Unc for the warm service and more complex flavors that are still "Filipino" at heart. We had an amazing meal at BB's! We ordered the Lechon, Fried Chicken (comes in 3 pieces we added one extra for our group of 4), Broccolini, Pancit Canton, JB's Spaghetti, and the chef's new dessert creation: a Basque cheesecake inspired by mango peach pie. Every dish was excellent, great balanced and play with sweet, salty, spicy, acid, and umami. The Lechon was a standout with crispy, shattering skin (not hard!) and tender meat and fat. The fried chicken was juicy and flavourful, and both noodle dishes felt warm and homey. Chef even came by to introduce the dessert, which was rich, tropical, and a perfect end to the meal. More and more Filipino restaurants are acknowledged by Michelin in the recent years, Kasama in Chicago for a star, BB's in Toronto for Bib Gourmand. While Kasama didn't give me the right vibes on some of the classic dishes, I felt wary yet excited to try out BB's. BB's pretty much serve whole day brunch, got a few options for the silogs, fried chicken, 2 vegetarian dishes, a spaghetti, and a sinigang. The menu looks a bit small, they went for the safe and standard items. While sinigang is my favorite Filipino dish, I've opted for a silog, let alone their chicksilog. You can't say no to garlic rice. Maybe you can, I can't. The plate came with 2 pieces of fried chicken, served with a tart hot sauce. That was the best fried chicken I've ever eaten. While Jollibee is great, they're nothing compared to BB's. As they shouldn't, it'd be sad if a fast food spot tastes better than a Bib Gourmand. The skin was crispy, not oily, but not dry. The meat was tender, very moist, it's almost like they pumped air in between to separate it from the skin. If you do go, just order their fried chicken, there are 3 pieces of it, you don't need to waste your calories on their garlic rice. It wasn't good. BB's was most definitely the discovery of the summer for me. My friend and I decided to go after a workout at about 1 p.m. on a Saturday. The place was quite packed, but there was this little 2 seater left on the far side of the patio that put us perfectly in the sun. We decided to order 5 dishes to share and excitedly waited for the food to come. We had high expectations as the small menu hinted that each of the items was carefully curated and deserved its place there. The food quickly came and let me tell you, EVERY SINGLE DISH was a HIT. The flavors were clean and fresh yet quite complex. Each item brought something different to the table (pun intended) and built on each other. The bright savouriness, tanginess, and sweetness of Filipino food were such a joy to enjoy on one of the last warm afternoons of the year, and the experience was perfectly rounded out by the friendliness and good vibes of the staff. BB's adds to the diversity offering up their excellent, modern Filipino cuisine. Note: This is a brunch review. The restaurant also offers dinner service. Get the silog. Very flavorful garlic rice with no oxidation, atsara (pickled papaya), a zesty pico de galo, crispy sunny side up eggs and a choice of corned beef hash, longanisa, or bangus. The corned beef hash made from deeply flavored, perfectly braised, pull apart corned beef that is then fried crisp with potato. The longanisa, coarse ground with gentle sweetness and very zesty citrus notes. The milkfish, tart and gently spicy from being marinated in vinegar and chilies before being fried up crisp. All just work with the plate. Do add the chicken adobo. Very good and very different. Just think of it as deeply flavorful fried chicken served with a spicy pineapple habanero hot sauce. Good stuff! Tip: Go as a group, order one silog with a different protein for on each and share adding on other dishes. Finally, for something sweet, wanted to calamansi pie (dinner only) but had zero complaints with the Japanese milk bread French toast with mango compote and coconut dulce de leche. Decadence on a plate. BB's has it all. From extremely friendly, warm and welcoming service to a great vibe from the eclectic ambiance and of course, excellent food. Ginataan was my favourite dish that stood out the most. I am not a fan of eggplant but the tortang talong was tolerable. The garlic rice in the BB's silog was dry and crunchy - not the texture I was expecting. The tamarind in the pork sinigang was stronger than what I'm use to. Adobo fried chicken was good with the habanero pineapple sauce. Everything in the Marivic's toast complimented each other well as a dessert to end off the visit. I had heard about BB's when they were at their old location and was excited to try them out. Having my fair share of Filipino food, I stopped by BB's on a Friday for brunch. Service was friendly and attentive. They have the traditional Filipino breakfast (you can even get it with bangus (milk fish)!) or you can even get dishes like sinigang or ginataan. I opted to get the BB's Silog (with housemade longanisa) as well as wanted to try the Filipino spaghetti (knowing that I would have leftovers to bring home). Also had a glass of calamansi juice. The longanisa tasted great - vinegar is definitely much needed to cut the richness of it. The garlic rice was great as well, the rice was not mushy and there were parts where it was crunchier, giving texture to the dish. Eggs were made well. The spaghetti was also a big portion. I wished it was slightly sweeter but the pasta was cooked al dente and the ragu it came was delicious. Overall, chill vibes, great service, and decent food. I'd consider BB's is a Filipino tapas joint. The menu is small but covers most of the bases. The portions are meant for sharing and pack a lot of flavor. BB's was absolutely not on my radar at all, but when I heard they were putting a Filipino spin on brunch, I knew I had to give it a try. We showed up around 12:00 on a recent Saturday and the patio was completely full, but we managed to snag a couple of spots at the bar inside. They've got a pretty small menu, so it didn't take me long to land on the BB's Silog ("breakfast plate w/ garlic rice, two fried eggs, atsara, & house made longanisa"), and I also ordered their hot sauce for an extra dollar. This is one incredible plate of food. Everything works so well together and there are some seriously impressive flavors on display. The delicious, slightly crispy rice is phenomenal, and it's enhanced by the delicious, slightly sweet hot sauce. The star of the plate is that longanisa, as it's one of the best, most flavorful sausages I've eaten in a long time. All in all, BB's is clearly serving up one of the tastiest and most original breakfast plates I've eaten in a while. I only wish I could eat this meal every few days. read more
