Me and my girlfriend found this place on Apple Maps and when you get there. It's understandable to feel strange just walking into someone's house through the garage but once you're inside it's like a world of wonders. They helped me to repot my bonsai and they have a huge selection of bonsai tree's and pots. They also have tools for gardening and fertilizer. all in all it was an amazing experience seeing someone turn their home into a store. My wife and I came here yesterday because we have been wanting to purchase a Bonsai for a while now. However being new to the world of Bonsai we had no idea where to begin. I found BC Bonsai on Yelp and called to make sure they were still open. Spoke to one of the owners on the phone and she was extremely friendly. Arrived at the location about 45 min later and upon arrival you can see that Bonsai is definitely their passion. The location is in their home and their showroom is their rather large back yard. There were hundreds of absolutely stunning little trees of all types of varieties. Linda, the owner, was there to greet us and she was so incredibly helpful. She assessed our familiarity with Bonsai or in our case lack there of. She gave us some great advice about the type of trees and the environment that we were planning on keeping it in both now in the summer but in the winter as well. She made some great recommendations but then left us alone with all of trees so that we could take it all in and make a decision on our own. Which I absolutely appreciated. We never felt rushed, it was a great experience overall. We ended up coming home with a beautiful Chinese Elm. What is also great is that they offer classes both in a group setting and one-on-one on everything Bonsai, including how to care for them and shape & trim. I will definitely be going back for those classes. I absolutely love going to places where you can see the passion that either the workers and especially the owners have for their service or product. Had met them at the Chicago Botanical gardens Bonsai show as well as finding them on Google. I have not gone to their location but had spoken to either the owner or assistant and she gave me very informative tips on how to take care of a bonsai tree and which one I wanted for outdoor. Good selections at the Bonsai show in Chicago botanical gardens that they were selling. I choose the Maple tree bonsai over the typical Juniper bonsai because I thought it look prettier in my opinion. The leaves on maple bonsai also change with the seasons so in the fall it will turn red or orange and yellow. Was not that expensive compared to ordering online. Also if you go on vacation they watch and care for Bonsai for $15 a week. I learned you cannot leave a bonsai alone for more than 2 days. You need to water daily or your bonsai otherwise you come home with a dead bonsai tree. Other than that they are good to do business with. read more

You really get a unique, personalized experience that cannot be duplicated. We ended up buying two beautiful bonsai trees, and we got beautiful handmade pots for them. We really enjoyed our visits to bc bonsai! First off, it's mostly run out of home. They have another nursery in paw paw. We visited the home nursery and it was truly awesome! They have a great variety of indoor and outdoor bonsai. The owners are super friendly and very knowledgable. They have the mom and pop vibe which I love. It's a bit overwhelming since there are so many trees but it's delightful for bonsai enthusiasts. They are a specific nursery so I would not recommend it to people who are not into bonsai. What I like the most about bc bonsai is the workshops. My husband is more into bonsai than me so he has been to more of the workshops. For a fee you can get a tree and they will teach you and help you work on it. Bonsai is not the easiest hobby so that is amazing. It was very affordable too. They also have digs at their nursery in paw paw during the spring. For some labor you get to keep a tree. That is a steal! Sadly we have moved from the area so we will not frequent as much but we will be back when we visit family in the area! read more
