This place is absolutely stunning. The staff is so kind and friendly and always willing to help. My mother in law was diagnosed with cancer and she loves Orchids. I have ordered orchids from them 3 times. One of the orders I did have an issue with. I contacted them on a Sunday, and they responded back in 1/2 an hour! I was surprised at how quickly they responded back, and resolved my issue. I was expecting not to hear back till Monday or Tuesday. Excellent orchids and customer service! This has been one of my favorite places to admire Gods creations. I also admire the Mexican workers that keep this place running since forever. They have the most beautiful plants and orchids. Is breath taking. The only thing is that management and the people in the office are NOT too friendly not one person acknowledged that I was there. A couple years ago I was in the hospital and a dear friend brought me one of those supermarket orchids. I took it home and the following year I successfully re-bloomed it. Apparently the east and north facing windows in my sunroom, which also has at least a 10 degree drop in temperature each night, is ideally suited for many orchids. Since then I have ordered four orchids from Hausermann's (two oncidiums and two paphs) and they have done really well. They shipped really quickly and since I'm in Chicago I received them within a week (even during COVID). The packaging is done with care and the orchids have arrived unscathed. Really disappointed! Was so excited about bringing home this orchard plant. Had this plant little over one week from Hausermann and I found this white fuzzy stuff under the blooms. Googled about white fuzzy stuff on orchids and sure enough.......mealybugs!! I took pictures. So I looked at reviews about Hausermann and read others have brought home mealybugs, yuck! Not taking it back because I don't want to bring home another infested plant and not driving all the way there for a refund!! I tied it in a large plastic bag and dumped it. I ordered a lot of cattleya seedlings and a phalaenopsis. I had high expectations based on the outstanding reviews. However, I don't feel like my plants were of the quality others I expected. The first seeding cattleya I unpacked basically fell out of its pot because it had almost no viable roots. I had to replant it immediately. The next plant wasn't great either. Looked dehydrated and couldn't see any roots growing out the top. I later replanted this and it had no viable roots. It appears it was two plants together or it broke and each has new roots coming though, so I think it'll make it, but likely will be unhappy for a while. The plants got progressively better, though, as I opened them. Most were acceptable with some clearly alive roots on the surface but others I'm not so sure. The media in the seedlings seems old and water retentive. I only repotted three so far and the second one had a nasty full grow earwig come out of the 2" pot; now I'm afraid each time I repot. The phalaenopsis was pristine, however. Overall a bit disappointed. read more

The only online vendor with consistently healthy and quality orchids that are well taken care of. Orchid seedlings purchased few months ago are thriving and growing well unlike the ones from two other vendors which either needed replacement right away (Fla) or have succumbed to disease (and were sickly to begin with but the notoriowners in CA do not to stand by their products). Definitely will continue to do business with them. Update: Got several more (Vandaceous) seedlings which arrived with rotten dead roots. A "blooming size" orchid had small nubs for roots and wouldn't stay in the potting mix or maybe it was just stuck in the pot before shipping. CSR was nonchalant about the whole thing. What a huge disappointment for a vendor I thought would stand out among the rest. read more

Wow what a place Hausermann Orchid's is. They're basically a HUGE orchid greenhouse, grower and wholesaler. Lucky for us they are open to the public for retail sale. The greenhouses are mostly orchids but there is also a selection of cactus, succulents, bromeliads and more. I have only bee there a couple of times but I never leave empty handed. The quality of all their plants is stellar. I think they have something like a half a million orchids. Five stars. read more

Hausermann's is truly spectacular and definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. You are free to wander the many rows of the greenhouse at your own pace. They have a huge selection of orchids of all different kinds. They also have potting media, fertilizer, and pots at very reasonable prices. Go check it out! My first and last time buying online from this place. To be fair, if you can actually visit the store, then you can pick the healthiest looking ones, I suspect they leave the dross for online sales. Bought 3 plants, one is bigger than expected; one cattleya has leaves twisted in all directions but it has decent root system. So far a 4 star experience. Then the last and most expensive cattleya has ancient-looking chips, totally desiccated psuedobulbs, all of them, and wobbling in the pot. Turned out all the roots are rotted and only 3 roots are healthy, 2 of them less then 2 inches long. Should've taken a picture and send it to them but first time cattleya buyer and didn't want the bother at that moment. Hindsight tells me I absolutely should've written and send them pix of the trash plant they sent me. Live and learn. But never will I order online from them again. read more

So, I haven't been out to the greenhouse yet (although I definitely intend on it) but I joined the Orchid of the Month club and just received my first orchid! (and so fast!) It's a beautiful healthy miltonia. One of the reasons I wanted to try this club is because even my amazing garden center mostly has phals and I wanted to expand my variety -- and here we are. I wish there was a care sheet, but that's a small thing there's plenty of resources on the internet. I'm very impressed! read more

This place is not the cheapest place to buy a little phalenopsis (moth orchid). Go to Home Depot, Trader Joe's, etc. However, if you want a certain color orchid, a huge orchid, a rare orchid, or an orchid that smells great, this is the place. This is the place florists get their really amazing orchids. They're very nice, but this isn't a "store". Don't bring your toddler to fondle the fragile orchids - expect a nursery where they grow the most gorgeous and amazing orchids!!!! read more

Not likely to have occurred within a week of arriving to my house- and unfortunately will all die. What a waste of money and such a disappointment. I did not inherit my moms green thumb. My mom can make a cattleya orchid bloom 5 times in one year. She is amazing. I, on the other hand, can kill a fern before I even get it home from the store. The orchids at Hausermann's always make it far past their Plant in Kate's House life expectancy though. I've been going to Hausermann's with my mom since I was a little kid. I've always loved wandering around the huge greenhouses looking at the beautiful flowering plants and sniffing the fragrant orchids. The greenhouses aren't glamorous, they are just your average greenhouses, they've been the same since I was a kid. But you could get lost in the labyrinth of different houses and the long thing aisles hugged by beautiful flowering cattleyas, cymbidiums, paphiopedilums, and phalaenopsis. They have a seminars for those who'd like to stop killing plants (like myself) and a nice open house at the end of February when they are blooming. They have a lab looking area a bunch of little glass bottle on their sides with orchids either being grown from seed or being cloned from meristem tissue cultures. I used to love staring in the window at all the little bottles when I was a kid, just imagining the mad-scientist things they were doing to the orchids. Their prices are pretty reasonable for the quality of plants they offer. I bought a $20 phalaenopsis yesterday in a 4 inch pot. He's got at least 10 flowers in full bloom and about 20 buds that I hope to be blooming in the coming weeks. read more

Wow how can words describe how awesome this orchid vendor is?? My orchids were picked by Karen and she did a fantastic job choosing them. This vendor sends a plastic pot, and a clear, orchid pot with holes with all flowers. Due to the season, processing took an extra week, but my orchids were flown with 2 day air mail. There are beautiful orchids everywhere!! This place is so cool, orchids as far as you can see! There are so many varieties and colors to choose from. I thought the prices were reasonable too. I was helped by a nice, friendly, and helpful blonde/white-haired lady (was her name Melinda? It was something with an "M") who was very informative, telling me what to look for in an orchid. (I was buying them as thank-you gifts.) This sweet lady stopped what she was doing, put her work down, and walked with me through the orchids helping me identify the best characteristics, so I can find "the one." I was grateful to have her assistance since this is my first-ever experience with orchids. When I checked out with two orchids, I told the clerk (I think his name was Adam) that these were gifts. Learning that, he took the orchids, watered them, spruced them up to look especially nice, then put them in a box to carry home. Thank you! Wow. If you like orchids this is orchid-land overload. I typically buy orchids for my mom at the local grocery or bigbox hardware store. They are fine but for the holidays I was looking for something special. I found Orchids By Hausermann through a Google search. When I walked in I was overwhelmed by the size of the greenhouse (3.5 acres); or should I say greenhouses? Rows and rows of every orchid imaginable. And I was surprised by the prices. Comparable to the prices at the grocery and hardware store. The quality is considerably better and the florists (orchidists?) know their stuff. I was shocked at how well the two plants I bought were boxed, supported by a wire frame, and covered in plastic wrap. Worth the drive! And they have an open house every February and March. read more

Man working register was very friendly, we socialized a bit and he packed my orchid in a box securely for transport and then carried bit out to my car for me to assist.
