The Growing Place UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT! There's wagons readily available for easy transport for your trees, flowers, planters. Parking is in the front (sometimes a bit congested) and plentiful in the back (trust me, keep driving). The grounds are organized crystal clear- succulents, perennials, annuals, trees, etc. They are also very well staffed with people who truly understand plants- that's so nice and what they're known for: they truly LOVE plants! Look for the blue tshirts! They're happy to help! I wish they had somewhere to eat on the grounds. Or at least a coffee cart! Sometimes everyone just needs a little snack;) While their prices are pricier, I'd rather support these guys than Home Depot.

Coming here is like a real life garden of Eden...year round! As a child, I have fond memories of playing at the Naperville location with my sister, running about the beautiful grounds while my mother shopped for annuals & perennials. Now, my husband and I are fortunate to live close to this location and frequently shop as the seasons change! *Their custom plant arrangements make excellent housewarming or hostess gifts. It has become our holiday tradition to purchase our tree from The Growing Place. Buying local when possible has become a priority for us, and this fits the bill. The team at TGP is extremely knowledgeable and passionate. Any time I've had a question about a plant or flower, I've receive a detailed, easy to understand answer. Last year we took home our Fraser fir tree on November 21st and it lasted thru January! And I attribute this to the quality of their products and advice on how to care for the tree! I also love that workshops, talks and events are constantly offered....from complimentary to paid...individual to family...You can check them out on their website as well as social media pages. Their passion for their craft and the community truly shines through!

A gardeners dream. It's such a nice place to walk around. Tons of flowers and plants. Plus areas for children such as a slide and sand pit.

There's a SECRET GARDEN feel to this place as you don't normal pass by this road or would miss it even if trying to go there. I stumbled by here looking for some milkweed plant for Monarch Butterfly. Glad to have found what I want and more. Ask for milkweed while here to help boost the ecosystem for the beautiful Monarchs. The monarch population has declined by approximately 90 percent since the 1990s. Monarchs face habitat loss and fragmentation in the United States and Mexico. For example, over 90 percent of the grassland ecosystems along the eastern monarch's central migratory flyway corridor have been lost, converted to intensive agriculture or urban development.

We just bought a couple trees here. Super helpful staff (Anitha)(maybe Anita) helped us with questions on how they would fit in with our plans. Growth rate, sun/shade, ultimate size, etc. The little info cards they have on trees/shrubs are very helpful so you don't make a landscaping boner. Like the people who built our house did...Not cheap by any means but great selection. Also fun garden baubles. Tons of annuals and perennials. If you like to garden and grow things, great place to nose around.

    Finally got my Hydranga.

I don't have a green thumb. I can actually kill fake flowers. So, when I go to a garden center I need help. Lots of it. This garden center deserves all the five stars it has received. Lots of employees that can help you. They are friendly and knowledgeable. Oh, and the variety. Holy moly! Love, love, love this place. Great quality plants that are well priced.

Impromptu stop. I loooooove this place. $35 pot because it was cracked

In the children's classic "The Secret Garden", author Frances Hodgson Burnett said "If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden." At The Growing Place, it feels like the whole world IS a garden. Find a bench even if you don't intend to buy. --but be warned, if you're like me, you'll still end up buying. This is not a Lowe's or a Home Depot even if it has the words "garden center" in the name. It's a garden. A garden where you can purchase the beautiful things you see. They have pots in every color and in every size and the plants and flowers are a plenty. --The selection is HUGE! I used to endlessly search for beautiful plants and pots before my neighbor told me to come here. Now, I wouldn't even consider going elsewhere. With the selection and a staff who can answer all of my questions, it's my first stop. Do you know what you also won't get at a super center? Someone who'll come to your house and help you figure out which plants will do best in which spots! Um... very helpful! For only $100 (for an hour) and $40 per half hour after that, one of their design team members will walk the area with you and discuss your landscaping goals. You will receive personalized notes on: How to work with your problem areas. Design solutions and plant recommendations. Plant health care, identification and maintenance instructions. Gardening techniques, tips and solutions. A rough sketch of the area and/or notes of plant placement and spacing. Handouts on topics discussed and links to resources. A coupon towards a one-time plant purchase. If I knew more about plants, I'd actually love to work here. But since I should not be giving plant advice to anybody.......

Ask the Community - The Growing Place Garden Center

Does Growing Place deliver bulk gardening supplies like Mulch and Pea Gravel? If so, what's the process for getting that setup? Thanks.

We do not have bulk mulch. Just bagged hardwood mulch.

We stumbled into The Growing Place on a rainy Father's Day after a farmers market left us wanting…read moremore, and walked out two hours later completely enchanted. In the rain. Nobody complained once. This is not a garden center. It is an experience. The grounds are laid out in a way that feels less like retail and more like exploration, with magical little pockets of gardens tucked throughout that pull you deeper in at every turn. Twenty six gardens maintained across the property, each one more beautiful and considered than the last. We were mesmerized, all of us, adults and kids alike, just wandering and discovering in the drizzle like we had nowhere else to be. The plant selection is exceptional with a strong emphasis on natives, which is exactly what we have been hunting for as we plan out our garden for next year. Prices are reasonable and feel fair for the quality of what they carry. But the real story here is the staff. Joanne has worked at The Growing Place for over 35 years and helps maintain those 26 gardens herself. When our daughter bought a rose bush recently Joanne spent genuine unhurried time with her, walking her through exactly how to care for it. That kind of knowledge sharing and patient generosity is rare and it is clearly baked into the culture of this place. Four generations of family ownership spanning nearly 90 years will do that. You can feel the legacy in every corner of those grounds. They also run community events and educational classes for aspiring gardeners of every level. This is a place that genuinely wants you to grow, literally and figuratively. Our new forever garden center. No question.

Beautiful selection of flowers and indoor and outdoor tasty vegetables!!!…read more I did not require any service as I am a Master Gardener The value is there... if you are unable to get down on the ground and take care of planting your own seeds and weeding a garden or simply umwilling... it requires a great deal of time and effort I purchased these two beautiful plants myself as it is raining and I can repot them and plant them as indoor flowers and houseplants in the summer I should start a GoFundMe for my seeds and ceramic pots and watering can needs!

I had a very disappointing experience at Wannamaker's and will not be returning. After spending…read moreover $400 on an olive tree, soil, and planter, I discovered an infestation that began shortly after purchase. When I went back to the store for help, they were completely unhelpful and unwilling to offer a refund or even store credit. Instead, they tried to sell me a $10 bottle of soap that they admitted may or may not work. Beyond that, there was no real guidance, advice, or effort to help resolve the issue. For a specialty nursery with premium pricing, I expected far more expertise and customer care. I strongly believe in supporting small businesses over big box stores, but this place was a complete disappointment. Between the high prices and lack of support, the value just isn't there. I will be finding a new nursery in the spring and highly recommend others look elsewhere as well. If you're looking for quality plants, knowledgeable staff, reasonable prices, and customer care, Wannamaker's is not it.
