I was very close to ordering some tacos this time but then...my eyes caught sight of the Veganachos on the menu. So I cancelled my taco order and decided to order the Veganachos instead. The kiosk that I placed my order from had a "notes" section so I was able to type in my request for "no cilantro." We also both ordered Horchata for our drinks. While I do enjoy tacos, I guess I naturally gravitate towards other Mexican dishes more than tacos. I just keep thinking that I should try the tacos here one day, simply because the words "tacos" is in the name of the restaurant which indicates that tacos should be what they specialize in. Truth be told though, I just havn't found myself in the mood for tacos on any of the visits we've made to this place. One day, I will try their tacos though! The Veganachos were pretty good. Most orders of nachos I've seen at restaurants are usually larger than this order was. It had plenty of ingredients on it though, and it was a very good size for one person to have as a meal. Not an excessive amount, but not too skimpy either. I quite happy with it. Next time though...I will definitely try their tacos!

You enter your order on the tablets and then wait for your orde the come out on the conveyer belt thing. I found the delivery of the product quite disorganized when I was there. Everything come out and there is no explanation of what is what. I just thought they could they could label what the vegetarian items were when the came out. Several orders got crossed and some had incorrect items in theirs. It wasn't super busy either. Our food was moving to getting cold by the time we got ours. A real shame as jackfruit Mole was very good but the meat ones were getting too cold for me to feel comfortable eating. I'll probably try to tell the cook staff to seperate the vegetarian from the meat ones in my order next time. Still worth a visit though despite all the hiccups

It matters whether the corn tamales are fresh and the right kinds of cheese are used. The quality of the jalapenos. The variety of the salsas. And especially the way the meats are seasoned and cooked. It seems like the farther I get away from Mexico, the more unreliable the Mexican food becomes (although I must admit, I did once have a great Mexican meal at a hotel in Sweden!) Anyway, Vancouver is pretty far from Mexico. And so the results are pretty dicey at a lot of the Mexican places around here. But Mi Casa really blew us away. It's a little hard to find, it's just a door with stairs going up. But once you're up there, it's quite, spacious, with picture windows lining two walls. I was pretty sure things were going to go well when I got my Margarita. None of that fake Margarita flavored syrup here, just real lime juice and a generous two ounces of tequila and a rim half salted without my having to ask. Then the enormous pile of nachos showed up, thoughtfully layered and covered in the right kind of cheese. Plentiful pickled jalapenos with just the right spice level. A mound of delicious guacamole. And an incredible chorizo. I've never even been much of a fan of chorizo, and if I'd known it was going to be on there, I'd probably have had them leave it off, but it really made the dish. It was complex and smoky, and its flavors infused everything. Honestly, these were the best nachos I've ever had anywhere. I also had the lunch special, which was two tacos. I chose pastor and cochinita pabil. Pastor is a longtime favorite of mine, and this was prepared in a very traditional way. It was excellent, but the cochinita pabil was even better. Succulent and plentiful. Some of the best I've had. My wife had two tamales with chicken filling. You could tell they were homemade with perfectly done cornmeal wrappers and served on corn husks. Service was friendly, and the server verified our suspicion that the owners were from Mexico City. I've dined in hundreds of Mexican restaurants, but I have to say this was the biggest surprise and was among the very top of all that I've been to. It really exceeded our expectations and will become a regular on our rotation.

Note that $3 is the price after you get a drink, but they have low cost drinks like a $4 lemonade which makes it a low bar to meet! Had the birria, pollo, carnitas, al pastor, and mole tacos. Had to repeat the order after because they were pretty good, especially in the afternoon after work! Tacos run a bit small, but for $3, that is totally understandable.
