Nightmare. The owner of this company tried to gaslight me into staying in a house infested with…read moreants. Pull up a chair. It's... it's actually shocking how unprofessional this woman was. We rented a $230/night house (called HAVEN) for a family birthday getaway. The day after we checked in, we discovered an infestation of ants all over the kitchen and in the living room - they were in the kitchen cupboards, on the counter, all over the floor (see pics). It was really disgusting. I cleaned up hundreds of ants and they were still everywhere. I felt like I had ants all over my body. I was in distress. This is not the $230/night deluxe experience I had envisioned. I sent photos to this management company and called them immediately. The first person I spoke to said that they were MADE AWARE THE HOUSE HAD ANTS, a week ago - but thought they had fixed the problem. She offered to send a maintenance person to check things out, but said the options would be to spray chemicals (I had my dog there, and wouldn't allow this), or to use a sugar wash, which, she explained, would make the problem worse before it got better. Oh, super. I told her that I was really uncomfortable and didn't know what to do. Neither of these options would work and I didn't want anyone else in the house due to COVID. She did not offer any additional options, so in my distress, I relented and said the maintenance person could come at least check things out. They gave me 30 minutes to vacate for the maintenance person. It was pouring down rain so a bit inconvenient but... ok. A few minutes later as we were preparing to vacate, I opened up a cupboard to get a glass of water and ants were running around all of our plates and cups in the cabinets. My kids were upset and I was disgusted, and we decided we didn't want to be there at all. I called back and spoke to the owner this time. This is where the gaslighting began! I told her as politely as I could that we were uncomfortable and would be leaving. She then LAUGHED AT ME and loudly cawed, "You're LEAVING OVER SUGAR ANTS??" Then she said, "it's not like it's mice or rats! They don't bite, they don't sting, and they don't carry disease!" OHHH. OK! I don't mind if I find a few swimming in my morning coffee, then! No prob. #BeachLife! She also tried this one: "this is NORMAL for Manzanita!" When I tried to tell her that I've been vacationing at the coast at Seaside since I was young, and had never experienced anything like this, she cut me off to explain, "This isn't SEASIDE, it's MANZANITA!" OHHH! Yes, right, this town is 30 minutes down the coast from the one I grew up going to... and thus has a compleeeetely different climate, vegetation and pests, and that makes an ant infestation perfectly acceptable, perfectly normal, perfectly healthy. When I explained that I did not want any chemicals to be sprayed because I had my dog in the house, she again CUT ME OFF to tell me she has EXPENSIVE dogs and she would NEVER put dogs in danger. OK? Not sure why I needed to know she has expensive dogs. This is not about you, Karen. This is about us, you know, the people who paid almost $2000 to stay here? She never once apologized. She never offered to set us up with a different property. She just attempted to gaslight me into thinking I was CrAzY for wanting to vacate a property swarming with lovable, friendly little ants. Meanwhile, my body still itches. She went on and on for so long without letting me speak, that my daughter eventually took the phone from me and told her we would be leaving, and hung up. We packed up our things and got out of ANT HAVEN. I requested a refund through AirBnb, which the property manager has declined. But it's fine, I'm dealing directly with AirBnb to resolve it. And, this is just review #1. I do not love an ant colony in my silverware drawer, but I DO love a review. And I'm only getting started. Avoid. Unless you love ants and being insulted.

A highly recommended beach vacation house rental, especially when comparing to the available ugh…read morehotel lodging in the areas. We rented the Ocean Front Cottage for 5 days last week. This 3br/2ba remodeled 1960 house is located an ideal .9 mile from the town's cafes and Main Street. It was spotlessly clean, cozy and functional for our vacation goals of wine tasting/purchasing 2 hours away, relaxing, hiking, and going out to eat. Kim is a very responsive and caring owner/manager. Her emailed arrival instructions packet was chock full of helpful and useful info. We needed nothing, but I'm sure that if we did, whatever we would have needed would have been taken care of easily. The home's furnishings were not luxurious, but more rustic and functional in that sense..and they fit right in with a simple but updated beach house. The built in master king size bed's mattress and linens were very clean and comfortable to sleep on with no issue. Wifi was fine, we didn't watch cable tv at all with that awesome ocean and sunsets directly off the large rear deck. Regarding the other unfortunate yelp reviews here about getting gouged for furnishings damage, do like I always do when checking in and out of a private rental and also a rental car: as you walk in, take a 5 min video walk through, be detailed in pointing out damage flaws, dents or stains verbally as you narrate. Then you have your obvious proof to protect you if an owner or management company wants to improperly attempt to charge you at check out, or 3 months later...but do so before you really get settled in (or drive away). And yes, I clearly documented the dented ss fridge, and hey there's no way they're going to charge other guests twice for this...calm down. Highlights were the beach side fire pit for sunset fires and s'mores...designed with fire safety in mind, the home's strong shower water pressure was a plus, the fresh crisp ocean air from leaving the kitchen window cracked at night was nice. Electric wall heaters worked great when waking up to take the morning's chill off. Let me save you time and research effort and do like we did..so you're sure to have an enjoyable visit: Restaurant recommendations: Yolk in town for breakfast every day at 8am (closed Tues/Wed.). Just go. Lobster scrambled eggs/custard French toast...yum, I'm a huge fan and there every day. Get your groceries and $7 kiln dried firewood bunch at the Big Apple Grocery in town: no price gouging. Fine solid selections. And try their awesome fresh made to order deli $7 turkey sandwich as big as your head (see my photo, it was a mind scrambler). Best surprisingly great quality dinner for 15 miles around is the new Salmonberry Saloon in Wheeler 5 miles away. I had the halibut collar, scallops, and my wife had their deliciously prepared salmon, that plus drinks $130..best water view and food quality/informal/locals only. It's like a clean blue collar bar on the bay, with gourmet pro wood grilled non-fried seafood. Worked great for us. Wish we went there first..and often. 2nd up is the fine Neah Kah Nie Bistro in town (reservations are a must/no large groups/$160 with apps, mains, and drinks for 2 would be right). Pay no heed to the hostile yelp reviews, they just apparently brought their unruly children and didn't have a reservation. Our food was delicious. The 2-3 Cannon Beach French bistro cafes are ok (like the cramped but competent Newman's etc.), but not worth the drive or expense when you have the Salmonberry Saloon's choices for far less. Less hokey tourists, too, in my opinion. Use yelp, tripadvisor, and reddit to figure this out more if necessary. Wine tasting/purchasing/wine clubs: 98 miles away, just glorious Oregon Pinots to ship home. Must visit Lange, Elk Cove etc... and a super yum lunch The Horseradish in Carlton. This is an awesome day trip and our primary reason for coming as we do every few years. Hiking at the Oswald State Park. We did the Cape Falcon trail, highly recommended. Moderately strenuous. The views during and at the end 2.5 miles each way were very much worth it. Think a 1000 tree roots to step over, then coastal ocean view trails. Manzanita town guests and locals were very friendly and... well...just plain nice, in my opinion. Older in age, too. Nice fun conversations with the Portlandians at MacGregor's Whiskey Bar in town, by the way. Glad we chose this rental from a Reddit recommendation, and would certainly visit and stay here again in the future. Thanks again to owner Kim!

I had to remake a whole entire bed in one of the rooms because it was covered in animal hair so there was no double check or cleanliness check. I don't think in that room. It was totally obvious as soon as I started to rearrange the pillows on the bed I noticed all the dog hair all over and I had to rewash my sheets. They did bring sheets to us later, but still that's not what I wanted to do as soon as I already paid a $30 fee to get us in one hour earlier, which I've never really heard of and if you rent Airbnb from him, mom and Pop, then I don't think that they would've done that either. It's all about money to corporation so if you want to not experience a personal stay, do not stay with Meredith lodging

This was detrimental to our trip given we have many young children under 4 on the trip so a huge benefit was having quick, and immediate access to and from the beach during our stay. They dug their heels in and said no refund or discount would be provided and we could "just drive down the road and find public parking on 4th of July weekend to go to a beach." They are not the ones strapping multiple kids into car seats I guess. And finally for the cherry on top - there are reviews on the property from earlier in the year that mention the stairs under repair and limited beach access. This was well prior to our booking date. They falsely advertise a property, collect your money, refuse refund or discount and tell you to eat it! Classic bait and switch tactics and if you're not careful - you'll be next!!!

We recently listed and sold our home through Maryann and Steve Sinkler, Realty One Group in Cannon…read moreBeach. We've known the Sinklers personally for some time, so that makes this review even more difficult to write. The Sinklers have a reputation for being top realtors on the north Oregon coast. We selected them to list our house based on their reputation and our personal relationship. The experience turned out to be less than ideal. The first issue was photography. The Sinklers use a local photographer they described as 'the best in the business'. He took half a day to shoot exterior, interior and drone shots. We thought we were getting a 'walk-through' video as well, but that didn't happen. I recall in our first meeting with Maryann that she said we would have a video, however, it may have been our 'impression' that was going to happen. If you want a walk-through video, make sure you specifically ask them that question. The first set of photos we received were composed well and showed the house well, but the pictures were post-processed so excessively that the colors were washed out (lightened) so badly they were unusable. Our kitchen cabinets were blue, and the pictures showed them as grey (see attached photos). This resulted in cleaning/staging the house AGAIN to have the photographer come back out to spend another couple hours to reshoot about 50% of the shots. The second set of photos were color-corrected properly and were usable. (In staging the home for photos, the Sinklers used wine and wine glasses from their own company to promote their product and logo. Not really a big deal, but kinda uncool that they didn't ask if it was ok to market themselves in our photos.) The second issue, and far more disappointing, was the actual live listing. Not the RMLS - the MLS listing was fine. The feed to all the other commercial sites (Zillow, Trulia, Homes.com, Realtor.com, etc) showed the dilapidated duplex that stood on this lot before we tore it down and rebuilt our new custom home in 2016. These commercial real estate sites pulled their photos from Google Earth(?) and, as a result, they all showed a run-down, funky duplex instead of our beautiful contemporary home. There were a variety of other issues like number or bathrooms (52 vs 2.5), number of bedrooms, etc. There were issues on literally every commercial site. To Steve Sinkler's credit, he opened a number of customer support tickets with these sites and resolved the photo and listing issues within a couple of days. The email from Maryann letting us know the listing was 'live' came in about 3PM. Unfortunately, later that night (around 10PM) my wife went online to look at our house on Zillow, etc. only to find the old pictures of the wreck that used to be here and all the wrong info, such as bathrooms, bedrooms, etc. Maryann explained that 'she was afraid this might happen' (apparently this has been an issue for others on these sites) and that these issues were out of their control, etc. I understand that. The Sinklers can't be responsible for the acts of third parties. However, the Sinklers had all afternoon, from 3PM on, to check these sites, catch this problem and call us before WE found the problem. They have a reputation as the 'best on the coast'. In my opinion, the 'best' check their work and don't let the client get surprised like this. After all the work on cleaning, arranging and detailing our home for these TWO photo shoots, we were rewarded with a disaster. To this day, our friends and family still ask us why we used those photos of the old duplex. People saved the images and want to show them to us on their phones, etc. It's very embarrassing and very, very disappointing. We were so excited to see our home on Zillow, for example, with professional photography, etc. and the result really killed our excitement for the entire process. The home sold on the second day to a client a local realtor brought in to see the house. We expected that the Sinklers might have had a couple potential buyers, but that was apparently not the case. We had to clean and prep the house again for a two-hour open house after we had received our offer. The Sinklers can't control who does or doesn't come to an open house, but it was primarily locals that have always wanted to see the house, etc. so it really was a waste of time. The challenge was for every photo session, open house, etc we had to clean and then move our pets to a different location. This is normal when you're selling a house, but when you're doing it for no gain or because there was a mistake, it becomes really tiring, really fast. Selling your home is already a stressful process and a good realtor can help to minimize that stress. Unfortunately, in this instance, the missteps doubled/tripled the stress. The Sinklers are good people and I believe they were really trying to do their best. Unfortunately, their best fell short. If you chose the Sinklers to list your home, check/verify every step.
