I stopped in here yesterday just to grab a bag of dirt it was my 1st time in the store. Chris, the gentleman in the store had the dirt that I usually purchase, but he did tell me that there was another brand that was better. The recommended dirt cost a little bit extra but he said it was worth it. I have been using the same ocean dirt as everyone else so I tried this new mix that night and I'll tell you what it was way better right from the start. Not only was it easier to work with in the pot, but it held way more nutrient before draining to the tray than the other dirt that I was using. So kudos to Chris, because he not only bumped up the monetary input of the store that day, but he also helped out a customer with honest good advice. I was impressed, so the next day I went back to the store to talk to Chris armed with my homemade nutrient schedule. He examined my routine with the plants, and then made a couple of recommendations according to my goals that I had explained. I feel his advice is very accurate and fact based as he wasn't just talking from behind the counter. He actually went around to various nutrients and looked at the chemical content to find something that matched well with my regime. I want to thank Chris very much for taking the time to find out exactly what I needed and giving me such helpful advice. If you are located in the Lake Forest or Irvine area you know that our local hydroponics store is now closed. Don't go up North to the big stores. Pretty good place actually! Was able to browse a lot of reasonably priced products. I actually use the material to grow orchids. Reasonable prices on the things we saw. Wish there was better labeling of prices though. Some items had prices, others didn't. It was inconsistent and made shopping a little more difficult. But whoever was working there was helpful and more than willing to tell us the prices. read more

Poor customer service and slow shipping. If you order from them they Mark your item as shipped then wait another week until after before they ship it. Make you think you're getting your item at a decent time when you really have to wait an extra week before you can get it. When brought to their attention about their shipping they just said they do it that way with no problems until now. You should not have a customer thinking that item has shipped when it has not then make them wait longer for their order. read more

Yup NO NEED TO DRIVE UP TO THE BIGGER HYRDO STORES! BeachCitiesHydro is 100% my new go-to store. Chris was SPOT ON at product knowledge. Just moved back to the area from North CA & needed to just get sum basics to start (soil was main need); forgot my list but Chris filled in the blanks perfectly! Been using Ocean soil for a few years & Chris said to give another one a try for wut I have planned. I just got done using this new brand... BRAVO. Can FEEL & SMELL the nicer balance of nutrients & the quality vs price is so far beyond worth it. Also needed to pick up a SIMPLE starter green house. Chris did not even try to sell me anything silly or try to get me to consider a fancy set up. Being a woman I've walked into plenty of Hydro Stores & just been dismissed as a novice right away, etc... Not here! However a novice could easily walk into this store & be helped correctly, not ripped off, & be set up with the correct supplies. Was very happy walking out BC I ended up spending a good $200 less than my usual start up supply from the bigger stores. I saw they have everything for both indoor & outdoor, huge wall of liquid nutrients (more than 3 brands to choose from), different ways for water purification... was mighty impressed & so happy i no longer have to drive 30-45 mins to get just a few items. The knowledge, detailed service, & vast amount of products at that store is why you need to go to Beach Cities Hydro. I know my plants are going to be super happy & will start off strong this season. TLDR version: Great guys, great place, great prices!!! NON ADD version: Went down last night after talking to one of the salesmen, with traffic I showed up 25 minutes after they closed and he had no trouble waiting for me. He walked me through everything, not trying to upsell me what I didn't need. I spent $2,000 that would have cost me $2,800 at a competitor ( I have been doing my due diligence. ) I look forward to heading back down to them when I need to re-supply! read more
