Ruben Flores. All things natural extraordinaire
    MaDonna W.

We took an amazing walking tour with Ruben Flores of Laguna nursery. If you have the opportunity to go one Saturday to take a tour with Ruben, go! He is so knowledgeable, so smart, so witty, so extra... in so many good ways... We started our day with a mimosa and ended it with a big smile on our faces such a treat to be taken to a private home right here in our own backyard that was absolutely gorgeous. You will learn so many wonderful things about trees and flowers plants everything nature has to offer in this local community... we all decided that we were going back in two weeks to do a different tour with Ruben.

I knew of Ruben Flores for years in Laguna and his place, Laguna Nursery. Before working together, I looked at his portfolio of landscaping design projects and other locals I know have also recommended Laguna Nursery when I was ready to get plants for our home. Ruben spent a full hour at our place and gave my wife and I a free consultation. We were impressed with his aesthetic sensibilities. We also really enjoyed poking around his shop as well, picking out some pots and plants that informed him of our sensibilities and goals. Collaborating to achieve a vision for our space was a really fun experience. Ruben spent time educating us about the types of plants that would be fit best in our home and once he started the work, it was like our home just came to life! It was magical what he was able to do over the course of a week. He was into the project and the guys working with him were very courteous and professional. It's great working with someone who loves their job. I highly recommend stopping by Laguna Nursery and exploring the magical and interesting plants, pots and curiosities they have. And if you are looking to take on a home or commercial project and want a team of pros to make sure the job is done right and to your vision - Ruben Flores and Laguna Nursery is the where you need to go. So stoked with the work - Here are a few pics just to give a whiff of what was done...

    Gorgeous succulents!

This little nursery has the most amazing customer service in Laguna! Jimmy and Rachel went above and beyond to help me; truly above and beyond. I came in with an empty pot where succulents once lived and they turned it into a gorgeous display, complete with proper drainage so my new succulents can thrive. Such an unexpected delight! I honestly can't compliment this place or the customer service enough to give it justice. Thank you Jimmy and Rachel!!!

Succulents I bought at Laguna Nursery and planted inside a vintage terrarium.

We went Mother's Day weekend and the parking was horrible. Save yourself the headache and just valet your car. We walked in by their restaurant. They have carts available for you to use. The roses were hella expensive; $100 and more for a medium sized pot. They do offer a wide range of fruits and vegetables reasonably priced (~$8) and a variety of different types of flowers were scattered throughout the garden from small to large pots (~$10 - $40's) The garden was designed nicely with small shops offering decor and gardening tools/pot. They were way overpriced imo. Overall it was fun to walk around and see the different variety of plants and flowers. I would rather go to Lowe's/Home Depot or home goods for pots and decor though.

I am a long time resident of Dana Point and love to support local, family run businesses…read more Unfortunately, my experience with Dana Point Nursery has been consistently disappointing, and almost entirely due to customer service. Over the years, I have found the owner, Brooke, to respond to most requests with some variation of "no." Do you carry a particular item? No. Can you order something specific? No. Can I exchange something? No. Can I return an item I purchased just a few hours earlier? No. The most recent example was a simple request for a 10-gallon plastic pot. Last week, I was told they were out of stock and to come back after Friday. When I returned this weekend, they still didn't have one. While walking through the nursery, I noticed a used 10-gallon pot and asked whether I could buy it. The answer was no, and I was told to come back next week. The problem wasn't that they were out of stock. Businesses run out of products all the time. The problem was the complete lack of initiative to help solve the customer's problem. A simple offer to order one when I first visited, or even an attempt to suggest an alternative, would have turned a frustrating experience into a positive one. Instead, I went to Armstrong and bought what I needed there. What makes this particularly disappointing is that Dana Point Nursery depends on the support of the local community. Most people want to support independent businesses, but customer loyalty is earned through helpfulness and service. Unfortunately, after several experiences like this, I have decided to take my business elsewhere.

My bad for not checking reviews first before dealing with them. They were referred by a friend. Go visit Moon Valley in Irvine (Veronica) or HB (John/Riley). Both have the nicest sales people and aren't pushy. You get what you pay for. They have all the trees you can physically see and touch unlike this other nursery. Experience with Standard Grp: They will over promise and under deliver. We thought we would save a little bit of money from Moon Valley but did we think wrong! Oh and make sure to review all their "NRNC" (No Return No Cancellations) policy which was never provided to us. They're probably drafting it up now as I am typing this review. Our project was over $10,000 which isn't a small deal. They just promised just to get the $ and couldn't deliver the 32- 12 ft trees come the day before delivery. Anthony, the sales person was non responsive. We had our contractors ready to plant so the promised delivery day was important. We texted and called, texted and called and silence. Finally texted that we wanted to cancel everything. Then, a James, returned a call but was so condescending saying they were so busy and "had other customers" besides us. How rude. We just needed some sort of confirmation but of course that's when James mentioned they didn't have all the trees as promised nor ready to deliver because they didn't pass "QC" (quality control). Anyhow this escalated up to the CEO David Schneider but he was no help. Only Maribel was nice who contacted us trying to resolve the damage but the damage was already done. Nothing has been delivered but David is still pushing for a No Return No Cancellation. After weeks of cancellation and 0 product or services they feel the need to keep $10,300 of fully paid funds. They "dumped" old roses and plants in our yard and charged us triple the price that Plant World and Roger's Garden charge for the same plants. (We went to each of those nurseries to compare prices). On top of that Standard refused to replace dead plants, did not stick to the design that we approved and paid for, did not plant all of the flowers we paid for, and in general did a lousy job which cost a fortune. We recommend to NEVER do business with Standard on Ortega Highway! (If you are interested in viewing their plants, contact us and we will show you what old and woody rose bushes look like! And also a $3000 orange bush which was not in the plan but that we were charged for.... Plus a $1000 "warranty"! )
