I'll start by saying the food did taste good and this was a to go order for $50 a plate. I had the miso grouper and my wife had the lobster risotto. Wife loved it, my grouper was a little underwhelming. Was supposed to be miso glazed with Farrow mushrooms and bok choy. When I opened it, they substituted green beans and it just wasn't that satisfying. It's amazing that the most recent review of this place is 6 years old. I'm staying on Fripp Island and we tried the local restaurants. We could take our golf cart here and thought we were in for a treat. We did not have a reservation and clearly there were MANY open tables, but they said they make an exception for us?? Gee, thanks?! The hostess also said they don't normally seat people wearing jeans. Yet, she was chewing gum. GROSS and unappetizing. We were seated and our waitress was extremely pleasant and welcoming. We got some drinks-at happy hour prices- very delicious! And a bread basket while we waited for our entrees. I don't care for seafood so I ordered a Caesar salad with grilled chicken and a baked potato. The chicken in my salad had a familiar taste- like the Perdue short cuts you buy in the grocery store. Not good. My baked potato came with butter and sour cream. WHY ARE THEY IN PREPACKAGED CONTAINERS?! They couldn't provide fresh butter or sour cream? The manager, Tiffany, came by to see how we were enjoying our meal. My sister asked where they get their food supplies. Tiffany responded with Sysco. Umm yikes?! I understand it's off season and it's tough to know how many people will be coming in for dinner. Boy I was disappointed. Our experience and the service was good- except we were not asked if we wanted dessert and the table next to us did get dessert. Very strange? My sister got some fried seafood balls with a dipping sauce. She mentioned that the sauce was not a compliment to the food. She also got their soup and did rave about it! We have been coming to Fripp Island for 35 years, restaurants on the island have been mediocre at best. however, the last two years they have seriously picked up their game and you could now be assured you can actually have food prepared by a chef and not a line cook. We have seen a major improvement. Last night was the exception, however. We are members of the resort and recently built a house on Island and so are very familiar with the restaurants. Ordered the prime rib with french fries and sautéed mushrooms, prime rib showed up with the french fries and when I pointed out to the server that it was missing sautéed mushrooms, she took the plate back to the kitchen and returned with sliced mushrooms that had not seen a sauté pan in their entire life. There's also no Au Jus on the prime rib, which is included in the description. I hope this was a one off and not the beginning of mediocrity returning for restaurants on Fripp. They recently had food service managers leave the resort employment and I suspect they were largely responsible for the quality improvements Further, the entrée section of their menu containing their steak offerings is titled stockyard prime*. I eat at high-end steakhouses all the time Jeff Ruby's, Ruth's Chris, Morton's, and I can tell you that they are pricey, but a USDA prime steak is worth the extra money that they charge. If beach club restaurant is serving USDA prime they need to prominently display it. Otherwise I'm not willing to gamble paying USDA prime prices for a USDA choice steak. read more

Amazingly delicious food, excellent service, beautiful view, and all for very reasonable prices! I can't say enough about this restaurant. Went for dinner with a large group and we couldn't stop talking about how great it was. We had a tasting frenzy, passing our dishes around the table. So flavorful, perfectly sized portions, and beautiful presentation! You can tell the chef and his staff are very proud of the creations coming from their kitchen. And yes, these are absolute works of art. Everyone was so nice and pleasant. We had a great time with the staff. Not to be missed! read more

My wife and I have eaten at the Beach Club a few times in the last few months and the food has always been very good. We have had the Oyster Stew, the Spring Salad, the Filet Mignon, the Seafood Risotto and the Blackened Mahi Mahi. All were delicious and were decent sized portions. Our server was very nice and prompt with our order. We do think that the resort should put some money into the ambiance because there is very little. When it is dark out you would barely know you were at a beach restaurant. It also does not feel very fancy considering the prices of the entrees. Some wall decorations and a more beachy theme would help a lot. We are very glad there is a second option for a good dinner on the island but it can be improved. read more

If you're on Fripp and want a nicer than shorts and flip flops dinner and don't feel like driving all the way in to Beaufort, this is pretty much your only option. We typically end up making the drive to town. I've never seen the Beach Club full, much less bustling. On my most recent visit there were 4 tables total, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Yikes. As such, they don't keep a very deep menu: only a few options and it's all your typical bland country club stuff. Crab cakes, prime rib. chicken slathered in mushrooms, pasta primavera, etc. I understand that they can't get *too* crazy given the clientele, but jeez. There was absolutely nothing inspiring. The food tastes as bland as you'd expect. It's not bad, it's just not good. Thankfully, service is always good and drinks are strong and large. The setting is nice (for a country club feel) and you can't beat the location and ease if you're staying on the island. read more

I grew up going to this place every year during the summer and the food has actually gotten better over the years. The drinks are solid, service is well trained and the atmosphere (albeit a bit stuffy) is very eloquent and refined. For a special gathering, this place is a solid choice for families or couples. It's fine dining with a small island twist. read more

We just returned from our trip to Fripp Island and I must say this place has gone down hill since our last visit 2 years ago. Not sure if this restaurant changed management or cooks but the food and attitude of the employees was not that good. First our party was waited on by a new waitress. She was very nice but clearly she needed a little more training or guidance from management. We then received our food and all 3 people who ordered the lobster pie said it tasted like someone dumped a can of salt into it and it was very greasy. We had to ask to see the manager 3 times before she came out and took the lobster pies back. She was accommodating in taking them off our bill but she also seemed to have a bit of an attitude. I can honestly say this will be our last trip to this restaurant. Next time we will go to the Bonita Boathouse which never disappoints. read more

Meh... Food was ok. Service was slow even though they were not busy. Prices are very high considering level of service, quality of food, and condition of facilities. I feel that they are trying to be something they they are not. Would be better if prices were more reasonable, food was a little better, and it didn't feel as though the place was stuck in the nineties. We had a board planning retreat at Fripp Island and our meetings all took place at the Beach Club. The group sales office and the catering staff were top notch! All of our meals were really great! The island is beautiful, the fact that it is a preserve is so great. Deer everywhere. Alligators too. Beautiful beaches, and tons of choices in where to hang your hat while you are there. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars, is they have no recycling program that we could find. With a meeting like we had, it was a shame to see all of those recyclables end up in a landfill. read more
