Went for a late dinner. Charming place with friendly staff and broad menu. Decided to share a few items. Started with crab cake, which was a good size and perfectly prepared with a nice aioli sauce and a few greens. Followed with the house salad - fresh ingredients and standard dressing. Wrapped things up the Flounder Sandwich. Ordered it blackened. Nice slab of fish on perfect bun with lettuce, tomato and onions. Delicious fish. Serving staff were very friendly. Atmosphere was warm and cozy like you would expect from island life. Couple of odd things happened that were new for us. We were charged for water, $1.50 per glass. Additionally, we were charged extra for blackened seasoning, $1.50 on the fish and finally we were charged a 3% premium for credit card use. This was our first meal in the island so didn't understand if these fees were usual and customary or specific to this establishment. Highly recommend without any reservations. read more

What an unforgettable dining experience. And by "unforgettable," I mean the kind that follows you around like a bad decision. On our first trip to Edisto, we figured we'd try one of the central dining spots in town. Apparently, we chose violence. We started with the Crab Cake appetizer. Now, my understanding of a crab cake is that it's supposed to be pan-fried with a nice crispy exterior. What arrived at our table was more of a warm seafood pudding. If the chef was going for "ocean-flavored mush," they absolutely nailed it. For my entrée, I ordered the "Surf & Turf." Apparently, the restaurant has a very creative interpretation of that phrase. The dish only includes the Turf. If you'd like the Surf (you know, the thing that makes it a Surf & Turf), that's an extra $7. By that logic, I suppose a car dealership could sell you a "Car & Tires" package and then charge extra for the tires. The steak was advertised as being "grilled to perfection." I ordered it medium-rare. What arrived was medium to medium-well. After cutting into it, I showed the waitress, who agreed that perfection had apparently called in sick that day. She took it back and promised a replacement. Ten to fifteen minutes later (and several rounds of "It's almost ready!"), the sequel arrived. Shockingly, Steak Part II was cooked exactly like Steak Part I. At this point, the waitress explained they had a new chef who apparently hadn't yet unlocked the "medium-rare" achievement. Now here's the fun part: this steak cost $48. Forty-eight dollars. Let that sink in for a moment. Forty-eight dollars. Not for one poorly cooked steak. For TWO poorly cooked steaks. And somehow, despite this culinary magic trick, there was no apology, no manager visit, no discount, no offer to make things right. Nothing. And yes, I ate the second steak. At $48, I wasn't about to donate my daily protein intake to the trash can. That's not surrender, that's financial recovery. In the end, I paid premium steakhouse prices for a masterclass in disappointment. It was a remarkable combination of wasted money, wasted time, and wasted calories. The good news? Edisto has plenty of other restaurants. My recommendation is to try literally any of them first, and avoid The Waterfront Restaurant by any means possible. read more

We had a great dinner here tonight, we arrived at 5:40 and had a 20 minute wait for a table. Our waitress was very busy, very young, and very efficient. The she crab soup was a tad too thick but had a delicious flavor and a minimal amount of crab. The house salad was pretty large but seemed a bit odd with shredded cheese on top. The hush puppy's as previously reported were definitely delicious with a great flavor. On to the entree, crab stuffed flounder with baked potato and coleslaw was a large amount of food, everything was done well, the flounder and sauce was just perfect, cooked just right with a large piece of fish so good! Wow! Was super impressed. Came to visit Edisto with my parents ans my fiance. We found this place and decided to try. Wasn't sure about the place because it's literally called The Waterfront Restaurant ...and it's not waterfront. But! We got there around dinner time on a Friday midsummer. They said it would be a 35 minute wait , but it literally took 5 seconds to get a table. Inside is nice, relaxing vibe and decor. Our server greated us very quickly. I decided on the crab cakes, with a side of green beans and fries, with a glass of pinot grigo. The food came out pretty quick and the pour on the glass of wine was on point. The crab cakes were delicious, tasted like fresh crab, great flavor not too salty. Reloulade was a nice touch. The green beans were delicious, perfectly blanched and seasoned lightly. The texture was crips and crunchy just like I like it. The fries were amazing as well, they came in a switly texture, never seen fries like that. But they were crispy and soft. So good, everything was delicious I even tried some of the other food that my family got like the broiled flounder and the grits. The side of grits is legit , cooked with just a bit of butter and with a ton of flavor. I am thoroughly impressed and can't wait to come back next time we are in Edisto. We had fantastic service and great food when we had dinner here while on vacation! Our waitress was busy but still attentive, making sure we had refills or anything else. We ordered the she crab soup for an appetizer only to find out a few minutes later that it might be a little while before it was ready. She brought out some hush puppies that were perfect and even had corn in them! Im not a big fan of hush puppies, but I really liked these! Our waitress communicated well throughout the waiting period, and when it finally came, well worth the wait! Delicious and creamy and so fresh tasting! There was a bit of a wait for pur food. I'm not sure if that's always the case, but maybe plan on the wait to avoid hanger! Overall, really cute place with good food and great staff, we'll be back next time we are in edisto! read more

It's a solid place at Edisto Beach . In the summer months they get very busy and there is often a wait . They operate on a first come , first serve basis with no reservation system or call ahead seating available so keep in mind if time is a concern . In the off season , winter months there's typically no wait . The food is pretty good : seafood, steaks & sandwiches offered in a casual, nautical-inspired diner. My favorite thing on the menu is the prime rib ! It is tender , flavorful and delicious . The complimentary hush puppies are also very good , with pieces of corn mixed into the cornmeal . On this most recent visit, I tried the Edisto Mahi : Mahi filet topped with a candied bacon horseradish sauce . The horseradish sauce was good but I felt like the candied bacon was too sweet for the dish and did not compliment the fish well . If you like fried shrimp , they're good here ! Be prepared to pay the kitty tax upon exiting the restaurant with your to-go box . There's a few cats that wait directly outside the restaurant looking adorable hoping for a treat from exiting diners . Our most recent visit we offered them grilled shrimp pieces and mahi . So disappointed in my meal. I ordered the strip steak medium rare and it comes out medium well. Lost most flavor being so over cooked. Spending over $40 for a steak it should be cooked as ordered. We had browsed various menus on the island and settled on The Waterfront because of more broiled or grilled options for someone in our party. We arrived at 5 p.m. and were surprised to see others already seated since everywhere online said they opened at 5, but a sandwich board at the restaurant showed 4:30. We were still seated right away. Despite being named Waterfront, there's no water views, but it definitely has a sea theme and is a couple of blocks from the ocean. Our server was great. She was busy, but very attentive and answered any questions we had. Now onto the food. I ordered a crab cake for an appetizer and was excited that they also gave us complimentary hush puppies which had corn and onion in it. The crab cake was delicious. A lot of crab and balance of seasoning and veggies. I got the shrimp and grits as my entree. It was also very good. Shrimp was cooked perfectly and grits with Tasso gravy were flavorful. The green beans were the featured vegetable and were okay. The others in my party ordered the stuffed flounder and said it was good as well. The food did take a while to come out. The place was slammed, but it was at least 45 minutes after we ordered that our food came out. It was a good experience overall. read more

We had the sweetest waitress, Addy, who was friendly and very attentive and a great server. The food was outstanding! if you're in Edisto Beach, definitely try this place. The food portions were generous, and all very tasty. I had the shrimp stir fry which came with a choice of side; it was spicy and filling. Another in our party had the edisto mahi which was so flavorful and fresh. We had a burger eater and she was very happy and a fried shrimp platter, along with calamari as an appetizer. My only complaint (or word to the wise) is that they charge you for tap water (1.50) and 3.5% if you pay with credit card, but a lot of places are passing credit card fees to the patrons now. read more

We've been to the waterfront a handful of times when we come to vacation on Edisto island, and it never disappoints! We've mainly come right when it opens around 11, and service is always super friendly and accurate! The appetizers are great- you must get the fried green tomatoes & hush puppies. All the fried fish is delicious-- fried oysters to fried shrimp to fried flounder. We got some half carafes of mimosas to split and it made for a fun early lunch. I've been here a few times with my parents who live on the island full time. This is one of their favorite restaurants! The service was top notch -- I don't remember our server's name, but she was on top of everything and super friendly, despite the restaurant being absolutely packed. They start you with a complimentary order of hushpuppies, which are delicious. We also split an order of the fried green tomatoes (A Lowcountry favorite! Green tomatoes lightly breaded & fried. Served with our house-made remoulade sauce) which are very tasty. The breading is light but crispy and the remoulade is *chefs kiss* We also got an order of the firecracker shrimp (Deep fried and tossed in a sweet & spicy coco loco Sriracha sauce. Topped with toasted coconut.). I was expecting more of a bang bang shrimp, but these were tail-on larger shrimp with a lightly crispy breading and a sweet and spicy coconutty flavor. Very tasty. I got the Fried flounder combo with fries and the daily veggie (which was collard greens) and was very happy! The breading was super light and crispy (seems to be the theme) which was refreshing from normal fried seafood. I'm sure I'll be back many times again! read more

We have been coming to Edisto off and on for 16 years, and when I discovered the Blackened Tuna Steak there I was already a fan. We went last night for the first time in 2-3 years and did not know what to expect but we found that they had remodeled since our last visit which I found the new remodel to have reinvigorated the place and brightened it up. Our server was fantastic and constantly made sure the drinks were full and we were doing good. I of course had the blackened tuna which I loved and the new fries were just as good. My wife had the vegetable fettuccine and my son chicken and they enjoyed it immensely, My 10 year old had the kids chicken fingers and fries and even though we weren't sure 2 fingers were not going to be enough they ended up giving us an extra finger which was perfect. Overall we had a great experience and as long as the have that blackened tuna we will be back every year we come. read more

This was our first time at the waterfront restaurant and it won't be our last. Food and service was excellent, everyone was very friendly. My Oyster po boy was very fresh and tasted fantastic, it could have used a signature sauce to make it even better but I was happy with some cocktail sauce. The chicken tenders and fries disappeared quickly from my sons plate and he is rather picky. My wife said the salad was good and my daughter's really enjoyed the food. read more

We had visited this restaurant several times over the years and loved it. This time however was a complete disappointment! Wanted to order hush puppies which I remembered as being great, the waitresses told me they were changing vendors and didn't have any to offer. Not sure why they are not made on the premise. The crab cake was good but not worth the price. We ordered broiled and fried scallops w/baked potato and coleslaw. The food was okay but NOT worth the nearly $40 per plate. They do not provide any dinner rolls and I asked for hot tea, but they don't have that so I ordered water not bottled but tap water @ $1.50. I did overhear the waitress behind me telling her patrons that it's filtered 3 times... It's still tapwater. Against my better judgment, my spouse decided to order a slice of chocolate cake, it was yummy, but most definitely overpriced as well. All in all the ambience in this restaurant is better described as casual/ beach however prices are reflecting upscale without the nice ambience.The total bill NOT including the tip was approximately $125 without any alcohol drinks. I understand that this is a tourist town however, you don't need to triple your prices for what you are providing to your patrons. Kudos to our sweet waitress. read more

Edisto Beach has a handful of restaurants in the 3-4.5 star range. Each year my bookclub (30+ years and going strong) spends a week at EB and we eat out once. We attempt to try a new place every year but that's not easy when there hasn't been a new place in awhile. This year we revisited The Waterfront. We arrived at 4:55 and waited for the doors to open at 5:00. The first thing we noticed was that it seemed to gave been remodeled. It is now more open and lighter. Lots of nautical touches and odes to the beach. Cute and cozy. Since it was the beach in February, we were seated immediately. I've been here in summer when the line was out the door! We started with appetizers for the table:fried green tomatoes, mozzarella sticks, and hush puppies(served with butter‍). Each was good but those hush puppies were on another level! I ordered a cup of she crab soup. It was creamy and so tasty. Two at the table ordered burgers but everyone else had fried shrimp/oysters which were lightly breaded and cooked to perfection. We got either a baked potatoes or fries. MS choose a dish called "Scallops st. Pierre" she declared it "perfect". Someone else had the mahi mahi. It was cooked well but combination of candied bacon and horseradish sauce was strange. We passed on dessert having lots to choose from back at the house. If you go though don't forget to save a scrap from your dinner to pay the "kitty tax". There are always some stray cat hanging about begging for a morsel! read more

Brunch at the Waterfront on Edisto Beach. They have a great menu to choose from along with a $12 AYCE breakfast buffet or $17 for the lunch buffet. My husband had the breakfast buffet and enjoyed a little of all the basics - eggs, sausage, bacon, grits, and pancakes. I got the Eggs Benedict in the photo. Great portion for $12. The grits were great! Creamy and delicious. And the Benedict was yummy with perfectly poached eggs, ham, and hollandaise. I don't think the sauce was homemade, but I still scraped up every bit of it Fun atmosphere and great service. Highly recommend if you're out on Edisto! read more

The food is terrible and portions are extremely small. My husband ordered the fried flounder. The server brought broiled flounder which was a total of three pieces. When she returned with the fried flounder it was two very small pieces. We ordered glasses of wine and ask for a water each. The server brought the water and it had a horrible taste. When we received the check we were charged $3 for the waters. I could understand if it would have been bottled water. The server was polite. There were only two servers for the whole restaurant and so many dirty tables that no one cleaned from the time we got there until we left. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Everyone was very friendly and we had multiple people stop by to check on us, not just our server, which was nice to see. The inside is really cute and surprisingly clean, and I loved the Christmas decorations. We got hushpuppies to start and they were delicious, some of the best I've ever had. I ordered the grilled chicken salad and she-crab soup and both were good. Nothing to write home about, but they were good. My youngest ordered chicken fingers and fries and when his fries came I was intrigued by them. They did not look like fries... so when I tasted them I was impressed and had to order a side of my own. They were like a cross between a fry, a home fry, and a potato wedge. I ate them with a side of ranch and they were shared by my husband and older son. The price was a little expensive, but right on par with what we were paying at other places on the island. Do yourself a favor and order the fries when you come here and you can thank me later. ;-) read more
