Very cool spot. Yes, this place has it going on. This is a stable in the city I am sure. We stumbled upon it easily while walking through the city. When we first walked by it was BUSY & LOUD! But we came back a few hours later and it seemed a bit more inviting. Everyone bartending was friendly and knowledgeable on spirits. We order a NY sour, Manhattan, and a few drinks off the menu to try something different. All of which had a strong execution. Well done ! We didn't get a chance to order any food. But the atmosphere and service was 5 stars, so much that I wanted to leave a positive review. I hope they thrive in Beaufort. read more

I'm not sure if it is where we were seated or if it was bad luck but the dinner we had last night, had on and off wafts of the worst scents. Our party of 4 agreed that the smell was really bad but the food was worth it. The pear salad is amazing and so was the pate appetizer. All good things about the pork chop and lamb as well. The portion for the entrees are a very good size. Servers were very nice. Loved the pudding dessert!! So good eaten with the chocolate terrine. read more

Best meal we've ever had the Beaufort. The building is an old brick structure with only a metal bull above the door on a side street. The inside has that spruced up old building feel. The shishito peppers and the garlic shrimp were the appetizers. Both were awesome. We got the beef short ribs with polenta which were excellent. A burger was also ordered. It was huge and tasty. They also have wood fired pizzas which looked awesome. Our server was very attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

When someone told us to go to Old Bull Tavern for the best Old Fashioned in Beaufort, we had no idea what we were getting into. As we neared the door right at 5:00, when they opened, we were surprised to see that there was already a line. Reservations are definitely recommended. Fortunately since we got there right at opening, we were able to take the last 2 seats at the bar. Another couple, who visit often said that they usually arrive by 4:00 to get in line for a bar seat. The ambiance was unique and very classy, with specialty cocktails and a variety of menu items. Since we were there for the old fashioned, we only ordered an appetizer... the garlic shrimp! It was easily THE BEST shrimp I've ever eaten. They gave us several slices of bread to dip in the sauce and I truly believe that without it, I might have licked the bowl clean... lol. The service was great, even though they definitely grew busier as the night moved on. We actually had a "connection" with one of the bartenders (friends in common, even though we were more than 800 miles from home). The ambiance is wonderful! I would go back to sit at the bar and have one of their lovely cocktails, which was my favorite part of the meal. However, the salad and entree were, at best, inconsistent. Parts of my Caesar salad were left out (the lardons) and many of the leaves were starting to brown. It was disappointing. The gnocchi (reportedly stellar according friends who had visited), was inconsistent in size and as a result inconsistent in the way they were cooked. I also happened upon a shrimp with a tail on and just a little extra shell, to boot! While the server was conciliatory and apologetic, they did not make any effort to make it right. Again, based on friends' feedback, I was anticipating a great meal, and it just didn't measure up. Yet, I would stop by for a drink and maybe even a sweet dessert, but I'm not sure I'd be up for another mediocre meal at a stellar meal price. read more

Why did you hang up the phone on me - I was so polite to you? Old Bull is a bona fide locals spot. We came in for dinner the other night and this place was packed!! We didn't have to wait long, however and in no time our awesome server had custom cocktails in our hands. As an appetizer we ordered the oysters Rockefeller, which honestly I've had better but it's not the end of the world. We did share one of their gourmet pizzas and it was an absolute home run. I can't wait to come back and try one of their main dishes. This is one place you should really try out, as a visitor or a local. I got the rack of lamb - slow cooked, falling off the bone tender on a bed of mashed taters, my date got the duck breast - amazing is what I heard, she never let me take a bite lol, but sweet taters were killer. We shared the burrata for an appetizer - the fresh creamy mozzarella balanced the tangy balsamic drizzle. And we closed out with tiramisu - it was rumored to be huge (that's what she said!) and it lived up to the hype. Drinks: old fashioned - bullet rye, London calling (gin drink), and old bull mule (my favorite) was a spicy ginger infused house bourbon drink... I'd have 2-3 in a sitting! Service: Kat (with a k!) was fun, engaging and timely. Her playful approach to serving us was par for the experience, top notch. Ambiance: a true side street gem hidden in downtown Beaufort that is a must see reclaimed building with a rich history. Indoor, bar and outdoor seating available. Absolutely delicious! We made reservations for Saturday at 8pm, and thank goodness we did because the place gets packed! We were in town for a 5K, which was also during the shrimp festival, so Beaufort was alive. When we arrived, we were seated and ordered a few drinks, which came out quickly. Our waitress was amazing, and the interior is lovely. Definitely the true definition of a gastropub. We ordered a burger and a pizza, and finished both ! Unsure if we were starving or used to the large food portions in Savannah, but there were tons of crumbs left behind. Since we're talking about Savannah,I'll say the prices for meals were significantly less expensive, and we loved it! This gastropub has subtle romantic vibes as well, which was perfect for date night. read more

We've visited Beaufort several times and never had a bad meal. Owner of a shop recommended Old Bull, and suggested we make a reservation: 17 people were waiting when the doors opened, and it quickly filled up. Unremarkable from the street, interior is great: different rooms, flexible seating, brick, dark wood. But it was the menu and service that knocked us out. Varied offerings on a changeable menu, with nuanced flavors. Nice wine selection: can't always get Albariño by the glass. Rosemary cashews a nice touch.Many dishes shareable, certainly the dessert. Ours was a Florentine cup with a nutty crisp shell and a pastry cream better than any I've eaten in Paris. Olive was a superb server: relaxed, knowledgeable, candid and kind. When I asked about size of portions, she suggested the Winemakers Salad was more than generous; with its crisp grapes, unusually lovely grated cheese and piquant yet sweet dressing, I was glad to have followed her advice. With dessert, I enjoyed the best cup of coffee I've had since New Orleans. So good, that we bought a bag; usually sold as beans, but we were headed to simple digs, and they even ground it for us. Fabulous drinks and awesome pizza. We had the baked feta, which wasn't my favorite as the cheese was melting to the bottom of the pan so it was hard to scoop up. The Sardinian pizza was crisp and loaded with goat cheese. Comes with six slices so enough for three people to share. we sat outside on the patio and they do have fans with some parts in the shadow. The inside is pretty small so there was a wait. There are only two restrooms and the back one is extremely hot. Our dishes came out very quickly, even though the restaurant was full. read more

The food here was fantastic, but the wait after ordering was horrible. We had reservations and it was fairly busy. Lots of large, very loud groups around us made it difficult to have a conversation with the people at our table. I wish they had told us the kitchen was behind or something, we waited almost 2 hours from ordering until we got our food. We were about to get up and leave, when they finally told us our food was coming up next. We were STARVING by that time, and probably would have ordered immediately upon arriving if we knew the food would take that long. I'll be back, but I'll ask how long the wait for food is before sitting down next time. read more

Easily one of the first five star restaurants we have visited in a while. The place is a true gastropub, with a nice combination of warm cozy spaces. The room with huge bar is louder then the other two restaurant spaces, so chose accordingly for what kind of party you are eating with. The wife and I started with some of the custom cocktails. The French connection was near perfection, as was my wife's new fashioned. We also enjoyed the olive tapenade with goat cheese. It may have been slightly salty, but if you combined it with goat cheese in one bite, it cut the saltiness quite a bit. DW had the slow roasted corned beef dinner, which was a St Patrick's day fantasy. The meat was fork tender and really not that fatty. I had the short rib served over cheesy grits with a blackberry glaze. A great combo of meat and starch, with a sweet tang from the sauce. My only quibble was the lack of a veggie, though I just stole some from my wife's plate. Too full for dessert but i am sure you could not go wrong. Definitely will return. read more

I am so disappointed in this restaurant. Some months ago, we made a reservation for dinner. Showed up on time and stood outside with other confused patrons as we stared a dark, closed restaurant. No sign on the door, no answering the phone. Just....nothing. We tried again this past Thursday night. Once again we made a reservation. It was confirmed by email. We again showed up on time, showed them our confirmed reservation, and they claimed to have no evidence of it. The manager said she sympathized but didn't have anywhere to seat us. We were asked to wait and given menus. This was a night we were celebrating a birthday. This second disappointment was too bitter to swallow, and we wound up leaving and going to another restaurant. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to Old Bull Tavern and despite my past 5 star review, I will also be leaving this off my list of recommended restaurants. read more

My friends and family always have an exceptional experience at OBT. I love that you can dine inside or outside and it feels intimate. One of my favorite appetizers is the smoked mullet spread. My favorite drinks are the French connection and the sangria. We are huge fans of the pizza and love when we get to sit in the back and watch it be made. Can't beat that Gorgonzola pizza! Another favorite is the lamb shank. I have never met someone that has had it and said otherwise. Services is excellent as well! If you are visiting Beaufort one must go to OBT. read more

If you don't have reservation you may have a wait. But it's a wait you'll never mind. Once inside the vibe is upbeat. The drink menu is best in town. All of the staff are on top of their game. The menu is eclectic. I've tried almost all of their dishes. If you like corned beef, Old Bulls is epic. One of the best I've ever had. We have a very close, irascible, incorrigible comedic Friend Barry (and yes, I capitalized Friend intentionally) who was born in Somerset, England. We lived in the same small town in Virginia for twenty-one years and raised our children together as Fathers and the closest of friends. He is always full of life, minus his daily nap which you could almost forget about except for the subtle snoring, and a hoot who we really enjoy seeing when ever possible as we all got to be part of his World! And no. I don't mean Fred Rogers here but exact polar opposite personality with all due respect. Believe you me when I say, you have rarely met a person with the ability to embarrass, thoroughly entertain, and make you wonder "Did he really just say that?" all at the same time. But the fun we have had over 40 years together! On a one of his visits to see us here in "The Low Country" we decided to take him and his delightful, ravishing wife Chris to Old Bull Tavern which he and we feel offers a unique dining experience. As you may have noticed in some of my other reviews I choose my words carefully as I do here. Old Bull Tavern's menu is unique fare offering in all of our experiences with literally hundreds of different restaurants throughout the World. The food is always always fresh, impeccably prepared, a very special gastronomic treat because of the different ingredients, the savory flavors, heavenly scrumptious taste festival in your mouth with each bite, and because of they Old Bull's down home English style Pub type atmosphere. People who are at the bar or another table next to you will strike up a conversation with you or you with them, which everyone there enjoys immensely. They will ask how you dish tastes because they will readily declare to you, "I was not sure if I would like meal so I went with the ... but I am going to definitely try it next time!" Those wonderful people and fellow dinners, in our experience share their life's story with you openly, and uninhibitedly because they are flat-out, no holes barred, enjoying themselves with smiles, and expressions of extreme dining satisfaction! Did I mention the food tastes remarkable? Is the Old Bull Tavern ambience enthralling, or over overwhelmingly unusual? No, and Yes, Yes, Yes! Hun? It is just such a fun filled, rich with a great friendly people relational experience that we have found to be rare at any restaurant, ever. That is the Yes, Yes, Yes, part of my response above, and it is the essence of its ambience. Their Servers are very friendly, superior in their menu recommendations based on what your share about your meal preferences. They are great at getting your order right, just the way you wanted because they listen and care about how you feel about your dining experience at the Old Bull Tavern. Barry always loved visiting this restaurant as we all did many times with him. Sadly, he passed in away in the spring of 2023 as he and Chis were leaving to see us in just a few days for their annual Spring romp through the South. While I love and will eternally miss one of my closest friends ever so much, he loved life and he did not suffer food or fools not to his liking. Barry Jones was rich in many ways in his life with his Family, friends, personality, humor, a top professional in his field, and a touch of complaining you never really noticed much because his World was ever so thrilling, fun, and an experience you did not want to miss! Came back on our annual trip to Beaufort this past weekend and I would give them 6 starts if I could! Already our favorite restaurant in the area, but truly topped themselves on this visit. While originally we were disappointed we didn't get our date night nook in the corner, it was made up for with the exceptional service and phenomenal food. We had the opportunity to meet Oscar who assisted us with our wine selection and personally picked us a bottle that complimented our meal. We started with the shrimp ceviche, which has a spicy bite, but an incredible fresh summer option for an appetizer. We also had the black olive tapenade... always a crowd pleaser!! The duck was absolutely perfect accompanied by the sweet potato puree. And the tenderloin was also a delicious staple! The tiramisu followed us home that night and was such an amazing treat in bed. Huge slice and such a rich texture. We had such an amazing experience and will be back next year for our annual getaway. Thank you again to Oscar and our amazing waitress (we think her name was Katherine or Kathleen?). But they were incredibly attentive and made it such a special evening!! 6/5 stars!! read more

Fettuccine pasta was fresh made but the sauce was bland.. we had to add so much parmesan. Pork belly bao buns were good but too small and too sweet for my taste bud. Steak was good, but lack of salt as well. Service was good. The only thing I will recommend to try is their local south carolina white thai beer. read more

An amazing evening at Old Bull Tavern from the professional and caring staff, shout out to Emily. To the manager Derrick who personality and empathy in how he treats his patrons would make this a definite stop in our return to this area. The watermelon, feta and arugula salad with the recommendation from Emily about a dressing was spot on. The homemade tagliatelle in bolognese was so satisfying. The bolognese was light and creamy. My wife had the gnocchi with vodka sauce and shrimp light, tasty and delicious. The strawberry shortcake, my first word after a bite was wow. I came from Charleston to hang out with the family and meet an old friend. Everyone immediately suggested checking this place out. The restaurant was clean, lovely, amazing, dark, and mysterious--you get the picture! Our service was prompt, and when we asked a few questions, she had the answers. The good-looking manager (maybe Derek?) gave us an amazing recommendation for a salad and salmon. Delicious!!! While liked the vibe, price points, and overall service, came away from our first visit disappointed. Pasta, escargot, and white wine all came out room temperature, not what you want in for these items when served for dinner. Pasta tasteless - no hint of any spice.
