Gotta give it to them-these shrimp are some of the Best fried shrimp I've ever had! They use locally supplied fresh shrimp and it shows! My fried shrimp appetizer had 8 big juicy crisp shrimp-lightly battered served piping hot! NOT overcooked (big problem elsewhere) not rubbery/ just hot crisp light and Perf ect. Bravo! Been to this place at least 50 times over the years. The ambience is great especially at the upstairs tables by the windows overlooking the waterway. Downstairs is very nice as well. Service has always been attentive, friendly and responsive. Food is usually very good and very rarely disappoints. read more

Had dinner on our first night at Fripp Island... David's second day as a server here and I appreciate the attentiveness. Food was delicious. Crabbed stuffed flounder was yummy. What's really sad is that the employees really don't want to serve their customers and make them feel like a burden. What time do you close? The employees literally tried turning us away an hour before closing. Then we were served but literally at the 9:00 hour we were rushed out the door . Not just us but everyone that was still sitting. This is what we as members pay for? The place is packed and they send everyone home so we can't finish our meals in peace . Very sad. Not worth the money that is spent on a membership. read more

Bonito boathouse was recommended to me by one of the locals. I ordered the chicken & grits dish and it was very flavorful along with the calamari. Sam was our server and she was amazing! She was patient with the kids, incredibly friendly, and made great recommendations. Insane spot for sunsets. The salmon and the salads are good. I liked the waitress as well. It's expensive but everything is on Fripp.

Service is good and atmosphere is fun. Hush puppies are the bomb, drinks are good, and food is OK. I enjoyed the salmon and my husband got the scallops which were good. Others in our party did not enjoy their meals as much. It was the only place on island open so it was hopping but staff did a good job of managing the rush. read more

Off the bat, it took a while for our waitress to come take our drink order. We had decided what we wanted by the time she got there. However, Tracey (our waitress' name) was extremely sweet and kind to us and our dog. We very much enjoyed her service, and she even took care to bring my mom all of the extra condiments she asked for! Beware - an amenity card or island pass is needed to eat in this restaurant essentially making it a private restaurant. I didn't give this restaurant much of a rating because we weren't allowed to eat there because of this ridiculous amenity card rule. For the love of all that is holy, avoid this. The service was horrendous (messed up multiple meals and delayed entree delivery). I had two margaritas and the crab cakes entree for a $78 dollar total bill which auto-included a 20% gratuity. These crab cakes were the size of a half-dollar and were not good. Two stars for food and our waitress Ashley was great; super accommodating and personable. The lack of five stars comes from our first impression with this place. We are staying on Fripp for the week snd our house has 12 cards. We scrambled 6 adults and 3 kids to get ready for dinner (21 months, 4yo, 7yo) and decided to take our boat vs a golf cart. Boat ride was 45 mins and car ride was like 5. It was a nice night so was worth it( saw three dolphins) We arrived, put our name in and was told we needed activity cards for all adults before we could be sat. The look of defeat was on all our faces bc someone forgot all the cards. With hungry kids in tow, we asked if there was anything they could do. Was told "No cards no service". LUCKILY we dropped a car there earlier so someone ran to our house and grabbed the cards. We were still one physical card short so we called guest services to talk to the host and validate we were card holders. They said fine with tremendous attitude that we went over their heads (listen our goal was to get these kids fed!) So a runner/hostess seats us and before she leaves says to our table "please remember to have your cards with you next time you come here and attitude doesn't help".... We said likewise and she went on her way.. flipping us off when she got far enough away. We were appalled but hungry so didn't say anything. But I'm here writing my review. Since there is little choice on Fripp Island you are almost forced to eat here. Slow, slow service. The drinks took forever. In the 2 hour dinner we were never asked if we wanted refills. Dinner took longer than the drinks and came out cold and without any flavor. Fish filet sandwich was so dry and over cooked I had to cut the fish with a knife. It's really a nice place to eat. We've been here many times. I love the snow crab legs! It's a little touristy, but there's not many places to eat on Fripp, and this is one of the better ones. Nice view and good sunset. They used to have more areas for outdoor eating which made it easier for us traveling with our dog. They have pretty much just put chairs for happy hour instead. I hope they change that. People traveling with dogs need restaurants. Anyway I think it's a good place for dinner. You can dress up or be casual. Either way, it's good. read more

Rented a house on Fripp Island and was told this was the place to watch all the College and NFL games....they were right. The views from the bar area are amazing, sun set over the water and marsh.There are few "bars" that can match that combination. If one draw back, not enough sesting, but the place was perfect with several games on at a time. The bar tender Bill was so great, servicing 30 plus at a time. Always made sure you wete satified, changing TV'S for the fans, drinks, food, etc. The menu is limited but very good for the area. Nice fish srlection, wings were perfect. Great fresh burger. We ate lunch and dinner Saturday and Sunday. Another plus, no DUI since Fripp is a private gated island and you drive golf carts. read more

I want to love Bonito Boathouse but lack of service, beverage choices and inconsistent food make it hard. After having really good service from Bill at the bar, we decided to take our family for dinner. All 6 of us ordered a variety of fried baskets. One guest didn't receive her hushpuppies and three of us had soggy inedible onion rings. The fries were cold. The service was very slow and we had to flag down a server for water, beer, cocktail sauce and our check. I would have given this review a 2 star if it wasn't for our experience at the bar. I would say its safe to have an average to good dinner at the bar but don't go with more than 4 guests. read more

Our group ordered take out, Danielle was very knowledgeable and kind on the phone especially when you consider I called during the dinner rush. Our order was packed and correct when I entered the take out door 30 minutes later. Check out was smooth, Covid precautions were being followed by everyone. The Boathouse is on the Harbor River on the 2nd floor above the marina. The bar faces west so it's a great place on Fripp to watch sunset, eat and drink and watch TV. There's a good selection of food and beverages and what we had were quite good. Bill, the bar tender has been here a very long time and is rather helpful. The staff in general are very accommodating since this is members only after all. They do take credit cards but you must be a member or be a guest of a member. Most members are vacation home owners but this place has a friendly small town vibe to it...everyone knows everyone or someone who does. Great place if you don't want to leave the island. read more

Raw steak. Disappointing staff. I went to the boat house on a Saturday optimistic. Unfortunately I was significantly upset by the way my food was handled. The steak in the surf and turf was completely raw. . All of our food had a weird taste to it. Staff was slow to assist with anything (25 minutes to get ketchup), and we felt genuinely ignored. It's more a place to drink way too much, talk too loud and watch a whole bunch of good ol' boy, drunken red faced men and women get stupid. And overpriced! Head off the island a bit and you can pickup some fresh seafood at Bradley's, get fresh vegetables and fruit from a farm stand. Better yet, eat your big meal of the day at the Shrimp Shack. If you find yourself on Fripp Island, this is their most popular spot. Casual, family friendly with spectacular views. We had the calamari (excellent) and hush puppies (good) as an appetizer for dinner we had the fish tacos which were okay, but a little colder than I would have liked and not as dressed as I would like. The staff was super friendly, accommodating and the service was great. I would like to see the quality bumped up a bit, but there might not be much incentive because there are few options at this resort. read more

This place frustrates the crap out of me. It's almost as if the ownership thinks that because we have no other options on the island, they don't need to try. How can a restaurant on the water not have good shrimp? The peel and eat were literally not edible. Fish tacos with gross cole slaw on them? Blech. Bagged lettuce on salads, no homemade dressing, no anchovies for Caesar, no crumbled blue cheese--all the extras you would expect for $30 per head place you don't get here. The service is always slow. They don't allow you to call ahead and get on a list so you have to drag your tired, hungry kids there to wait for 45 minutes. Oh and they close at 9---even on Saturday's. Makes no sense. I wish another restaurant would open and force them to tighten up because the location is so nice and the remodel is pretty but overall I always leave feeling like I got robbed. read more
