I rarely leave reviews. Especially about medical care. And this one is hard because I am torn. The medical staff is excellent. I went for an annual exam. Everyone I came in contact with, the Doctor, the other folks were all extremely professional friendly and helpful. My main complaint is about the sales part. I despise the policy that has the sales people come into the exam room before the exam is over. It's invasive and pushy and the business I'm sure benefits from the transition or some nonsense they tell you...but I hate hate hate it. Keep the sales person out of my office visit. I feel coerced. This is a long standing policy so I'm sure it will never change but it so unecessary. The only reason I still come is I like the medical care I receive but I'll never buy glasses from them just because they do this. And I will say this is in no way about the specific sales people. When asked why I had a co-pay when I have never had to pay for an eye exam, their response was that I was seen by a "doctor". Both my husband and I go to Dr. Lee for our eye care and in the two years we've been going to her, she has spotted and informed us of conditions and possible conditions to treat and monitor, that neither of us were ever warned about prior to going to Beach Eye Care. Dr. Lee takes her time with her patients, explaining in detail things noticed during appointments, showing images and test results for the visits, and answering any questions her patients have. My lasik procedure was done in 1997, pre-FDA approval by Dr Neatrour in Virginia Beach. He warned me he couldn't guarantee great results due to my severely poor vision, but I still wanted to try. I spent a fortune on glasses and was told the extra insurance I paid for covered broken/damaged glasses for two years. I got scratched lenses in summer/fall 2024 and asked for the lenses to be replaced. It was covered with the insurance and was told I would receive a call when they were in. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATION. My glasses frames broke in half on the same pair. I asked for an appointment to get them replaced. When I arrived, I was told that the insurance doesn't cover frames. They also claimed that I picked up my lenses. I did not and the lenses are scratched. It is totally unacceptable to be told the insurance covers damage for two years on overpriced glasses and it doesn't. I will never go here again. It is a shame that the doctors are so good. I highly recommend going to Target as their glasses don't break and are covered by insurance. Their staff is friendlier too. ​ read more

Last year I was referred to the practice by my PCP and since I had a great experience, I didn't have any complaints when they offered to schedule me the next year for the annual visit. I show up to the appointment and I'm told that I need a referral to be seen and that they attempted to reach out. They only reached out the day before but my practice takes 1 to 2 days to send out referrals so regardless I would have to reschedule, despite them knowing and mentioning that Medicaid insurance change their policy last August. So I wasted my time driving there for an appointment that they knew wouldn't happen because they only look at appointments the day before, not allowing for patients to get the referral they need before the actual appointment. Nor was a mass email sent out in August stating that Medicaid changed their policies, since I'm assuming I'm not the only person affected by this policy. So I wasted my time because they don't look ahead at the schedule and didn't feel the need to send out a mass message regarding policy changes. read more

**LASIK Surgery Experience** I underwent LASIK surgery on March 23, 2024, with Dr. Levine. During the initial consultation, I was presented with two options: Monovision and standard correction. Based on the experiences of friends and colleagues who had negative outcomes with Monovision, I chose standard correction to improve my distance vision. Dr. Levine acknowledged that, due to my mild presbyopia, I would eventually need stronger reading glasses as I aged, but he estimated this would not be necessary for about a year or more. I accepted this explanation, understanding that my near vision should remain relatively stable after the procedure. However, one month after the surgery, during my follow-up appointment, I was informed by Dr. Levine that I had achieved 20/20 vision. Despite this, I expressed concerns about a noticeable deterioration in my near vision. He responded dismissively, suggesting that I should have anticipated this issue. He seemed irritated when I pointed out that his estimate of a year or more before needing stronger reading glasses was not aligning with what he said during the consultation. His response, which included suggesting Monovision again despite my previous refusal, made me feel disregarded. His attempt to upsell additional procedures rather than listening to my concerns was frustrating and disheartening. I also explain that my distance vision is not sharp and in focus. He shrugs and says "That's interesting but you have 20/20 vision. Get yourself some cheap readers at 1.25 power and leave them around the house and you'll be fine". He gets up and starts walking me out the door... I go to CVS to get reading glasses at 1.25, my close vision is still not right. Frustrated I message to get an appointment to get measured for progressives. The office messaged me back and tell me I do not need to get remeasured and emailed me a prescription for 1.25 power and tell me my next follow up is in one year. I ask for an appointment with my optometrist to get remeasured anyways... I get no response... Seeking a second opinion, I visited a new optometrist with experience in post-LASIK care. The new optometrist confirmed that the worsening of my near vision was a common occurrence after LASIK, particularly if pre-existing presbyopia was present. They also found that Dr. Levine's prescribed reading glasses strength of 1.25 was incorrect, and that my actual need was 1.75. This discrepancy was causing the headaches and discomfort I had been experiencing. The new optometrist explained that the standard follow-up protocol typically includes appointments at one week, one month, three months, six months, and one year. Dr. Levine's office had only scheduled a one-year follow-up, which was inadequate for addressing ongoing issues. They then measured my distance vision and discovered we could sharpen my distance vision with lenses... I was advised to wait at least 6 months before considering any additional LASIK adjustments or correcting my distance vision with lenses to allow my eyes to fully heal. In the meantime, I received new progressive glasses with the correct prescription, which alleviated some of the issues with near vision but did not resolve my problems with distance vision. This ongoing struggle has led to significant frustration and anxiety. I have lost all trust and confidence in my surgeon and Beach Eye Care. I was referred to another LASIK surgery group to get a consult but I'm too afraid to go through the process again. My experience with Dr. Levine was marked by a lack of empathy and insufficient follow-up care. His dismissive attitude towards my concerns and his focus on upselling additional procedures rather than addressing my issues made me feel like a statistic rather than a valued patient. For anyone considering LASIK, I strongly advise seeking multiple opinions and thoroughly researching your options to avoid a similar experience. The lack of proper care and follow-up has left me worse off than before the surgery, and I deeply regret not exploring other options before proceeding. If you were to ask Edgar Levine... Great doctors, dismal management. Unexplained long waiting room waits due to the oversite of staff. My last waiting room wait was over 1 hour even though I was the 3rd person to check-in immediately after opening early morning. The waiting rooms are separated by the Doctor you are to be seen by. I was number 3 and I waited as patients checked were being checked in after me and then those whom had appointments scheduled after my appointment time were being called back to the treatment area. I could here the patients verify their appointment time at the check-in desk and more than 5 of these were being called back while i was still waiting. I always give at least 1 hour of my time when a Doctor's office appears busy. I questioned the staff' as to why i wasn't being called back and they immediately pulled my chart from the check-in file holder and had no explanation other than sorry. I mentioned this to the Technician when called back and she informed me that the manger was aware of it. I was there an additional hour and was never approached by a manager or anyone else regarding this matter. I did not bring the matter up to the Doctor because he is not the one that oversee's scheduling, check-in, or matters pertaining to the overall patient's experience. This has been the 4th time out of the last 6 visits that an unexplained long wait time has occurred. The whole Beach Eye Care experience has become an "Assembly Line Care Facility.
