I need to start by saying I didn't get this point in one or two visits. I got to the point of giving a one star review after every interaction I've had with them post op has been terrible. I can't speak as to any other location, but this particular location's office staff (not the doctors) is incredibly inconsiderate. You are just money to them. Once they get that money for the surgery, they couldn't care less about you and will treat you as a waste of their time. Why spend time with you when there are other suckers out there they can convince to give them their money? So onto the good stuff. I previously gave a 3 star review (name on that review is Sarah B.) for the same issues that you can read for more details so I will do a quick summary before I move on. Every post op appointment included several hours in the waiting room for them to spend under 5 minutes checking my eyes. Every time I would call to schedule an appointment, they made it very difficult to find a time that would work. Please note: I was trying to get appointments at the end of the day after a few very long appointments and my boss getting pissed off that I would take a half a day off from work for an eye appointment that should have been two hours max including travel time. Because never in my life before this had I had an eye appointment take an entire afternoon for just the exam. But that's the kicker - it wasn't the exam taking all day, it was the fact that they were taking new client after new client while I sat in the waiting room for them to spend under 5 minutes looking at my eyes. And now, my breaking point that reduced this to a one star review is that a scheduled my annual appointment for my warranty for June 2020. When I scheduled, I specifically asked if they were seeing patients due to the COVID-19 situation and they said yes. I scheduled this appointment mid-May. I took the next available Saturday morning appointment they had. The week of my appointment rolls around. It's Friday. I have an email from them reminding me of my appointment the following morning at 8am. I leave my house with plenty of time. I pulled into the parking lot about 7:50. I go inside not sure if they will have the lobby open or not yet but I want to be on time. Looks closed. I hang around outside for a few. No movement inside. I go up to the door to try the handle and notice the FedEx door tag is dated 5/21/2020 and there is a sign in the window that they are closed due to COVID-19. Now I'm mad. They had to have made the decision to close within a few days of me scheduling the appointment. They made no attempt to contact me and inform me they were closing their office indefinitely and needed to cancel the appointment. In fact, I got an email from them the day before reminding me of this appointment! I called corporate. No answer. I've emailed them. No answer. I need to know about the status of my warranty since I won't be able to have my annual exam done in the required time frame due to their general lack of respect for their patients and no one will talk to me. TLDR; they will be nice to you and treat you well until you've had your surgery then they drop you like a hot potato. read more

My whole experience was amazing! All the staff were extremely nice and explained everything every step of the way. Dr. Roberts has such a calming voice as he says what's happening during the surgery, the surgical nurses are there with you talking and keeping you at ease, the office staff are so sweet, and Dr. Evans who sees you for your follow up is super nice as well. They make sure all your questions are answered and you're at ease with your decision. I never felt rushed or like I needed to make a decision to schedule my procedure. I originally gave a 5 star review but have had to change it after my post op experiences. I had my first post op appointment the next day during my lunch break. I waited an hour and a half before I saw anyone and it was a 5 minute exam. I let that go thinking it was just a busy day. You are then supposed to have another post op appointment a week after but it must not be that important or they just don't care that much because they didnt have any doctors scheduled in the office for the week following my surgery so it got pushed out another week. Ok no big deal. It happened to be right after memorial day. Then I come in for that appointment and proceed to wait another hour and half to see someone. I'm pretty sure I would have waited longer if I didnt bo out into the lobby and tell them I had to get to work. Overall, I'm very happy with my results and while the staff is very friendly, they have zero respect for your time. Don't expect to be seen for well over an hour after your scheduled appointment time. Original review: Very friendly and personable staff. The actual process of getting the Laser eye surgery wasn't bad, though it did seem a little rushed. I had mine done about 4 years ago now. The reason for the one star review is they say they have "locations all across the US" and try to sell you their lifetime assurance plan. Well they actually just filed for bankruptcy for the second time in 2020. Then your LIFETIME plan disappears, the location you had your surgery at is no longer operational, and all they say is " oh well, sorry that location is no longer LVI since we filed for bankruptcy." I just called to set up an appointment with this location and they said I'd have to pay again. Do not get scammed like I did, SAY NO TO THE LIFETIME PLAN. Even if you are not planning on moving there's no guarantee this location will be open a month from now, since it's obvious they can't manage their finances. read more

I had Lasik done in just one eye by this location and all the below reviews are pretty spot on. I didn't meet with my surgeon except on the surgery day. Not only that, clearly the staff doesn't correspond and didn't realize I only needed the Lasik in my left eye, not my right. But they still proceeded in dumping the numbing agent in both eyes and then had the audacity to ask why I didn't say anything? Uhhh.. yeah okay. I mean the staff was very friendly And Belinda was nice, but Clearly she just had a quota She initially explained my payment options and how financing was available I continued to my appointment and was told everything needed to be paid up front I don't particularly enjoy spending that type of money all at once and not only that, I paid 500$ for life time insurance as well. Clearly financing isn't available. My vision could only have been corrected to 20/40 but almost a week after my surgery, I feel like it wasn't worth it. I wouldn't do it again. read more

LASIK can be a VERY scary and big decision. I know for me, never having surgery on anything before was one of the scariest decision I've ever made (And I've been skydiving). But everyone here made me feel so comfortable with their knowledge and experience. If I had a second set of eyes I would get those done as well! They are very professional and flexible as well. On the day of my surgery I was running late but when I got there I was still seen fairly quickly despite the crowd of people that were also getting surgery that day. The actual surgery took a max of 10 minutes as the doctor said it would. I am so happy with the results and highly encourage anyone thinking about getting LASIK or PRK to go see them first before anyone else. read more

I just had Lasik done here a few days ago and I have nothing but wonderful things to say! I had PRK done at this location about 8 years ago. My vision declined a lot since and I was pleasantly surprised to get bladeless Lasik this time instead of PRK again. I worked with Christine, the patient coordinator, and she was amazing! All of the staff members on site we're so knowledgeable and kind. They answered all of my questions thoroughly and made me feel at ease. As for the procedure itself, I had Dr. Roberts and he too was extremely personable and thorough. I did my evaluation and surgery on the same day and was completely comfortable doing so because of the staff. I had no wait time for my appointments. With COVID, there aren't people in the waiting room so you're seen immediately and all the focus is on you as the patient. The first 6 or so hours post surgery were painful, but manageable. But after those 6 hours, I had no pain. One of the best investments you can make! And trust LVI, I highly recommend them! read more

I did not have a good experience with my Lasik consultation here. When I decided I wanted to get Lasik, I scheduled consultation with three local providers and The Lasik Vision Institute really came in last in all categories. First, you won't speak to the surgeon during your consultation because the surgeon is not full time at this location and they fly in for surgery days. This probably would not affect results but it is not as comforting. The biggest drawback of this practice is that they do not offer "all laser Lasik" where the flap is created by a laser instead of a microkeratome (blade). While other providers have phased out this outdated technology 10+ years ago, it is still in use here. Lasik Vision institute recommended PRK for me, which is in direct contrast to the opinions of two other local surgeons who said I was an excellent candidate for all laser Lasik. My understanding is that either may work well, and their doctors are typically more comfortable and do more PRK, so that is what they recommend more often. Well, PRK has a significantly longer recovery time than Lasik, so I think that you are simply not getting the best available care if they are basing their recommendations on their personal preferences. They also may have based their recommendation for PRK on my questions, since I pointed out to them that they are using technology that others phased out years ago. Additionally, the pricing here is somewhat deceptive. They offer a low intro price on their groupon, but that is for the most basic service offerings only and once you get there, the rest of the add-ons are explained. Adding their custom view technology was approx $1000, which other doctors seem to include in the base price. My total cost was within $200 of the other doctor's quotes, so I would not recommend coming here just based on price. Finally, their corporate office has called me three times since I turned down their service to ask why. The one time I was able to answer my phone I explained the above to them and they simply repeated their script about how they have "the latest Lasik technology" while providing no evidence to back it up and brushing over the fact that they still use a blade to create the flap. The other times they have left me a voicemail asking to return their call and when I do so, there is no way to reach the same person who actually called me, and it just patches through to their hotline as if I was a new patient. Super annoying! Bottom line is that if you want the best available technology and a recommendation that is not based on personal bias, I would look elsewhere for Lasik. read more

Bottom line up front: the Lasik Vision Institute in Virginia Beach corrected my vision to 20/15. Even so, I would NEVER recommend them. Positive things about LVI: The office staff, the techs and the optometrist, are fantastic. They are skilled in their work and genuinely care about their patients. They do a great job and I appreciated each and every one of them. Additionally, the cost of the procedure at LVI is considerably less than 3 other practices in my area that I compared. Negative things about LVI: They are all about high pressure sales. They do not deliver what they advertise on television. The patient has very little interaction with the surgeon. Specifics of my experience: I had radial keratotomy in 1989, which makes me somewhat of an unusual patient. My only option for corrective surgery was PRK. At the first visit I had a brief exam by one of the technicians, and met with the business manager, Belinda. At no time during my initial visit did I consult with an Ophthalmologist. Note: their television advertisements clearly state "YOU AND YOUR SURGEON WILL CHOOSE THE BEST OPTION FOR YOU". Belinda has a quota. She needs to "book" a certain number of "eyes" each day to meet profit goals. So, I assume then, that the lengthy discussion she and I had about which surgeon would do my surgery had far more to do with how many patients she had booked on that day, rather than with how well my needs matched the skill of my surgeon. Further, there is pressure to buy the "Lifetime Assurance Plan" and the "Silicone Plugs" - both of which can be had for the low, low price of $100 per eye (discounted from $400 per eye) if you sign today! On the day of my surgery, I took the optional valium for relaxation prior to the surgery. I am not a regular valium user, and had no idea how it would affect me. I was absolutely LOOPED by the time I went back for my procedure.This is the first time I have met the surgeon. He doesn't review the procedure - no "time out" to make sure I am the right patient and we are doing the right surgery, no review of my history, just "get on the table so I can get this s**t done!" Then, apparently, he gave ME (the looped one) my prescription for pain meds. Apparently I stuck it in the pocket of my vest (I have no recall of this). After the very short procedure, I was marched through the assembly line to be dismissed. My husband was with me to drive me home. No one told him anything about what to expect in the next few hours, nor did they mention an Rx that should be filled for pain meds. Once the valium wore off, I was in excruciating pain. I called the office the next morning saying that I was in pain and was having excessive tearing. Tears were pouring out of my eyes like a waterfall. The pain was like nothing I have ever experienced. I made several calls to the office that day, finally, on my last call, a few minutes before their closing time, sweet, Marquita (the tech) said, "aren't you taking your pain meds?" WHAT PAIN MEDS?????, I said! Once we finally realized that the surgeon who, according to Belinda, "likes to hand the pain med Rx to the patient" (WTF?) had given ME the Rx for pain med, my husband found the Rx, and filled it. That provided relief and I was in moderate pain for the next 3 days. On my first follow up visit with the Optometrist (not the surgeon), Dr Brown, she puts up the eye chart and says "tell me what you see". I can't see anything. NOT ONE SINGLE LETTER. I'm thinking I have just made the biggest mistake of my life. Dr Brown was very comforting. She explained that "sometimes" PRK takes a while to heal. Eventually, my left eye came around, and I wore a single contact lens in my right. The "Assurance Lifetime Plan" gives you 6 visits post-surgery for a PRK - I think I used all of them in my first 90 days. At the end of this entire story, I am 20/15. BUT I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! WHY??? Because despite the amazing staff like Dr Brown and Marquita, the patient is never exposed to the surgeon, and that is just plain dangerous. These are you eyes, people! If you are in your 20's or 30's and you need a minor correction, maybe it's a good fiscal decision. But unless you can be ABSOLUTELY SURE that you will not have a complication, I think it's worth the 20% more that you will pay to go to a "real" practice. I cannot express the anxiety that I felt for the 90 days from the time of my surgery to the time I was "released" by Dr Brown....it's simply not worth the amount of money that I saved by going to this place instead of a more reputable, local practice. I feel extremely fortunate for by the grace of God and some good luck to have had a good outcome. If you are considering this place for your procedure, I will say please choose wisely. There are certainly a few of you who, with limited complications, might breeze by....but is it worth the risk? If I had it to do over again, I'd never go here. read more

Please read past the consultation as the experience continued to get worse. I had my PRK surgery at LVI 8 days ago. The consultation went great. The customer service was awesome, they would not only call and remind me of my appointment but they would e-mail as well. I was advised the day of my consultation that the day of the procedure I could have the scans redone since the wave test revealed a spot on the back of my eye which they believed could of been the result of me wearing my contacts the day before. I was advised that on the day of the procedure we should expect to be there 2-4 hours. My mother accompanied me on this appointment. The day of the procedure there were about 15 other people waiting for the surgery as well. Along with the patients came their designated driver. Some did bring their significant other along with their mom, and some brought their child with their mom as well. The waiting room sets about 10 people at most. An hour and a half into the wait I was moved from one waiting room to another, where this group had their electronics holding seats and again there was no space for anyone to sit. They did not have the intention of re-scaning my eyes as the surgeon already signed off on the procedure. The DR advised that my scans would of needed a significant change which was not passed along to me. When I was finally up to be worked on, they set me in a room directly across from the procedure room where you could hear the machine running. Not once did anyone explain what was going to take place in the room. I was advised to lay back and they began. The numbing agent did not work on my left eye, and they started with the right eye. Because they were half way done with the procedure they had to continue on. I came out of the room hysterical, where they lead me to a room by myself so I did not run off the patients waiting to be worked on. My father accompanied me on this appointment and throughout the entire appointment they kept telling both me and my father that everything had already been explained, making me out to be a liar. After I got home i was in so much pain I was unable to take the 4 hour nap as advised. When i went back for the follow up appointment the next day, they tried to schedule me to have the bandage removed the follow monday which would make 1 week since surgery. The lady at the front desk advised that the bandage was required to stay in for at least 5 days, and was very rude about it. They scheduled me for Saturday which saturday made the 5th day. in the follow up examination, They forgot to give me a proscription for my pain drops which would of been helpful the day of surgery. My father accompanied me on this appointment. My mother took me on Saturday to have the bandages removed. She talked with each person who took place in the consultation and explained to them that not once was the procedure or recovery explained to us. Once the bandage was removed I was still not able to see well. I believe I was quoted 25/26. I was advised to increase my steroid drops to quicken the healing process. On day 8 I was still unable to see clearly. Work has been a struggle and I developed a stye in my right eye. Tomorrow will be day 10, my vision is still extremely blurry. My vision is better than before, and when I say before what I mean is no contacts no glasses and all I would be able to see are figures. If I squint enough I am able to make out words on the TV. Throughout this entire experience I was never told that the down time for this surgery was 2 weeks. 2 weeks which my work does not allow us to take off 14 days in a row, I was also not advised that recovery to full sight can take months. i am extremely disappointed in their lack of detail of the procedure.If I knew the down time was 2 + weeks I never would of had this procedure done. read more

If there was a no star option I would choose it. This place literally, emotionally broke my heart. I called for an appointment to see if I could get corrective eye surgery. Making the appointment wasn't very personal because it was through a phone service not linked to the office or people working in the office. At first I thought that was odd but I was able to over look that. The day of my 1st appointment to see if I was a candidate everything seemed to go well. I did however not get told its best to not wear contacts a week before your appointment since it reshapes your eyes. That was upsetting. My test went great and I was told I was a candidate for PRK. They asked me to come back the day before my surgery to map out my eye since they couldn't do that due to my recent contact wear. Each appointment is 3 1/2 hours from my house and an hour away from where I was staying during this process. Still I remained calm. Excited I went in the day before my surgery had my eyes "maps out" was told everything looked good. I asked if I could pay for my surgery but was told not until the day of. Belinda said "she was waiting on the surgery to be approved by the doctor". I asked if I should be concerned but she said no this is only routine. So I asked "if I don't hear anything by this evening then everything's a go"? She replied with "lol yup". The following day (surgery day) I showed up. I did everything they asked, paid the $20 for my prescriptions, bought eye drops, bought vitamin C and an eye mask just in case I needed it. I drove for an hour to get there (gas isn't cheap). I was beyond excited!! I even couldn't sleep the night before, it was like Christmas. I Walked in without any makeup which is traumatizing when you're a girl! Waited 20 mins to be seen. Watched all the other patients get ready for their procedure. I was SO EXCITED I couldn't even sit! Then... I was brought back to a private exam room and greeted by a doctor I had NEVER met until now. First he showed me how my two scans were different and how he didn't like my second scan. He then said "I'm sorry you had to drive all the way here but I didn't have time to call you". Wow doctor! "You didn't have time to call me. That's so unconsidered". Then he explained how I may be able to go somewhere else that can better fit my needs. He then, apologized again and said he was just to busy to call. This literally broke my heart. To be told you can have your eyes corrected and then have it all taken away the day of the procedure was devastating. I have thought about seeking advice on this issue. I wouldn't go to these people. You get what you pay for. I will be going to a better doctor for a second opinion. read more

My husband had his eye surgery here, and we really regret the choice! They had to abort the surgery on one eye because the surgeon tore the flap. When he was recovering, she didn't ven bother to come in to speak with him personally to see if he had any questions, but simply left for the day. The opthamologist was a complete imbecile, and kept talking herself in circles without directly answering our most pressing question - is there permanent damage?! The opthamologist also misdocumented his file at least twice - once by writing down a test he had taken in his file, when he never took the test because they dialated his eyes too early and invalidated the test. Then on another are of the file she wrote down that he wanted the mono-vision surgery, and in another section circled "no" to monovision - this quack is a malpractice suit waiting to happen. We will see what happens in the follow ups, but now we are not happy campers!!! read more

The day of my operation, I was the fifth surgery scheduled. Well the doctor's flight in was late, and the patients started stacking up, like cattle in a pen. Soon the waiting room was crowded and we were assured the Dr. would be quick. When she finally arrived, she was quick. I waited and finally was called in, about 2 hrs late. The total time in the operating room for me was about 2 minutes, no real greeting from the surgeon, just lay down, zap, next. After 5 minutes in the recovery room, I was told I could leave. I COULDN'T SEE!!!!!! I had a difficult night with my eyes, much pain and discomfort. I called for a follow up the next day and was told to use more eyedrops. My vision is worst today than prior to my surgery. When I complained about my vision during my follow up, the well trained girl had every reason in the world why my surgery was a success. I had my surgery at the institute a month ago and I wish they had opened up this office 10 years ago! I CAN SEE! I was very skeptical before coming in because I've heard so many different things about cost. I was frankly willing to pay anything after meeting the doctors and nurses, they had me at hello LOL. Dr. G's bedside manners were top notch and my patient counselor made it all so easy i.e affordable monthly payments and convenient follow ups with my crazy schedule.
