I had my LASIK over 15 years ago with Dr. Neautrour (sp?) and had a good experience so I convinced my husband to get it done. Since Dr. Neatrour retired, we were told Dr. Jane was the best. My husband regrets this surgery every day since (5+ years now). He has an astigmatism but that was told to not be an issue. Since his surgery, he has blurred, double, and jumpy vision. We have been back multiple times and they just say his eyes are dry but Dr. Jane wouldn't listen to any of his symptoms (never even got through his issues). He just talked over him stating it was dry eyes and different scripts in each eye, and gave him drops which never resolved the issue. If he would have listened to my husband, he could have explained what symptoms he was encountering but instead just jumped with another diagnosis of dry eyes. We have not returned since that appointment, nor would we again. Bedside manner is important but it's more important to listen to the patient's symptoms as you could be missing something important. My husband is a firefighter and worried about not being able to continue on or pass his physical his eyes were that bad. I DO NOT recommend Lasik with BEC as they take no accountability or perform any mitigation. read more

Beach Eye care USED to be great. This review is from my experience however, it is one that I think most people will eventually have at some point. This place will do a decent eye exam but don't depend on them for anything after. I have been a faithful patient for YEARS. I make my exam every year around the same time and have even pulled over my family. HOWEVER, in a time of need where I misjudged how many contacts I had left, I realized I needed a pair. I contacted them too get one replacement...just ONE.....one replacement pair of contacts to hold me over . I was told no. I questioned why and it was because basically its been over 6 months since I last ordered contacts with them. I get people try and get over on some companies but I am not one to do so. I order contacts where I can get the best deal with my insurance or with coupons. I don't feel like its fair to have to buy from them. Not in this economy. It is July 2024. I just had an appt in April/ May 2024. I am up to date on everything so to hear from a healthcare facility that I have entrusted for years that they cannot help me based on something so trivial is insane. I will be switching doctors asap. This review will also be posted on every platform that I can think of. They need to do better. read more

I went to the First Colonial road location. The staff is very nice. Dr. Sayers and Wendy were very nice. It was suggested that I could get glasses for computer work. As I do a great deal of looking from computer to paper and back, I thought it was a good idea. What I didn't realize is that the cost would end up being far more expensive than imagined a simple pair of glasses for computer work should be. This is a big office so there's always appointments available! They have a lot of staff that are all experts in their field so I always feel taken care of/dealing with the best. The area I feel worried in is that I go for just my eye exam every year and I always feel like I am being charged for every little thing. For example, my prescription hasn't changed since last year but I was charged a crazy amount for them to have me put the same contacts in. read more

Terrible customer service. Ignored immediately at front desk and was at appointment for 2.5+ hours due to wait time. My family and I have been patients for over 10 years but this encounter was unacceptable. Maybe if they didn't overbook themselves, they would be able to see patients more efficiently. Enough staff to be chatting and laughing in the hallways but have multiple patients waiting in waiting rooms for 30+ at a time. Not to mention, doctors (Dr. Jain specifically) that will mumble and speak too quickly for older/ disabled patients to understand, severely lacking in empathy. Don't waste your time! read more

My vision is still blurry and I now have floaters after 6 month from my LASIK procedure that can't be fixed with glasses. I had a super mild prescription 20/40 with mild astigmatism. Doctor Neatrour recommended the surgery and down played the side effects like if nothing is going to happen. And the consultant Meri did not explain to me anything correctly before surgery. I told her about the side effects and she said they are "very very rare" making it seem almost impossible to get bad side effects. Good Job Dr. Neatrour and good job Meri. I swear on my mothers life that I will not rest until I close this institution and make you pay the price. Good luck :). I'm visually disabled because of your greed. read more

This is gonna be a fun one. I make an appointment here. I walk in. The front desk ignores me for 9 minutes. When she finally acknowledges me, I say I have an appointment. She asks my name. And she acts like I'm not important. She tells me to sit down. Someone will be with me shortly. I sit there for a few minutes. A woman brings me back. She goes here is all our sunglasses. I ask her where the "Costas" are. She goes we don't sell them anymore. I go since when. She goes since last week. I go not according to yours and Costas websites. Then she shows me the Oakleys. Walks off and completely ignores me while she is more worried about washing the touches glasses at the end of the day instead of helping a customer who wants to drop 650 dollars on a a pair of prescription sunglasses. I guess my money is no good here. On to the next one. read more

I had lasik surgery on march 24 th 2023 I'm 6 weeks out from surgery and I can't see .now they're passing it off saying it's because I have the beginning of cataracts. He was so careful and thorough and did lots of little things that meant a lot to me like wiping sanitizer off the equipment after cleaning it and holding the chair on wheels as I sat down to make sure it didn't roll on me. Professional yet friendly. I really felt comfortable with him. As a bonus, Heather, a technician I worked with a year ago to pick out glasses squeezed me in before she left for the day. Dr Levine is one of the best! I had a 1.5mmx1.5mm triangular piece of PVC fencing lodged in my cornia... Thank God it was in the iris and not the white part, because then it would've been very hard to spot! Dr Levine numbed the eye, removed the spec, and prescribed me medicine for pain and antibiotics. I was in and out of the office in about 40 minutes with minimal paperwork required! I highly recommend Beach Eye Care to anyone with something stuck in their eye. read more

This place is pretty nice. The huge clean fish tank when you first walk in is a beach-y classy touch. The waiting room up front is clean and well stocked with drinks and snacks and magazines. I've never waited more than about 15 minutes to be called back. I always do glasses and contacts at the same time and have seen Dr Dunn for both visits who is a very friendly personable doctor. And for some reason I want to say he went to JMU so I really like him! But I might be confusing him with another doctor I have. Anyway. They do your contacts fitting in a different area and then take you into the exam room. I did wait a considerable amount of time (probably 40 minutes) this last time but the nurse came in to apologize and explain he was with a small child. When the doctor came back he was friendly and efficient. I did get pricing on their glasses and lenses and they're pretty expensive. I mean like $300 with my insurance for new lenses. Not new frames. But that's anti-glare and thin bc I'm blind. Still. Tough to swallow. It's a very nice clean establishment and I like the location on First Colonial but they have a few sprinkled around the area so that makes it easier to visit one near you. I'm a fan! read more

I have been a patient for over 15 years and purchased countless amounts of contacts and glasses and a few years ago had lasik through Beach Eye Care. Their doctors are great and I never had a concern until my last visit about a month ago. All my routine visits have been well, routine. Pay my $10 copay (if I had one) and never received a bill. I don't ever recall filling out any type of form except updating patient history until now. I received a bill for almost $250 and some notifications from my insurance of what was not covered. I had never encountered this before with Beach Eye Care so I logged in to my company's insurance and saw they charged my medical and not my eye insurance (Eye Med). To be fair, I didn't realize they were two different insurances as I typically don't have to provide insurance cards when I go in for my visits. I just get asked if my insurance is the same and that's it. Plus I don't even had an Eye Med card. So I found my Eye Med card information and emailed to ask my they did not bill Eye Med like they do every year. The response was: "You were provided a form at check in which gives you the option to have only a vision assessment performed, and would return on another date for an office visit to address and medical concerns, OR to have all of your vision AND medical concerns addressed, including medication prescriptions, referrals, and any needed special tests performed all at that visit. The form states this option is subject to ONLY medical insurance copay's and deductibles. You chose to have all of your vision and medical concerns addressed per the form, which is why the claim was filed medically." I do recall this form and opting for the second option as when I read this I thought, I don't want to have to come back for another appointment. Why not have all my concerns addressed today? Never in my life would I have thought someone would come to an eye doctor to talk about anything but their eye health and that would then be billed to medical and not eye insurance. I do have a freckle on my eye that I get checked so I thought this was possibly what they were talking about with medical concerns and they changed their policy about what a vision assessment includes. Should I have asked a question, possibly, but to me this verbiage is very misleading and I feel as I was tricked. I am responsible for a $250 bill that should have been covered with my eye insurance as it is every year. I think a better explanation is needed for the form because I would have gone with the other option if this was more clear. So with this, I am now looking for another provider as I just don't feel confident that I won't encounter something like this again. I now have my guard up and will start asking questions. I just hope others read this and are not put in the same situation. read more

I was there for an eye exam at the Virginia beach location. It took them 1:45 to take me back for my scheduled appointment. 2 hours later I'm still there and I had to leave, so I rescheduled at the Great Bridge location, which went smoothly. So I thought. They billed my vision insurance for the eye exam and they paid partial for the glasses and paying $500 out of pocket myself, I get a bill 4 weeks later stating they billed my health insurance company as well and I had to pay another 157.00. When I called in the woman on the phone explained it was for the doctor to explain to me that I had allergies in my eyes. This is crazy, it's like going to the drs office and the dr telling you, "I know what's wrong with you but hey if you want the results, it's going to be extra." read more

Beach eye care has gone above and beyond as an eye care provider! My sister and I decided to get Lasik done together and we're please with our entire experience. From on the phone consultations with Emmy, to scheduling our in-office consultation, and procedure, the staff were helpful and accommodating. I live outside of the Virginia Beach area, but wholeheartedly agree it's worth traveling for, so I had limitations on availability. The office was great about working with me and getting me on the schedule (consultation and procedure in three day span). Although there is a bit of a wait beyond your appointment time, they do their best to keep on schedule. My consultation was efficient and the technology of all the tests blew me away. Dr. Neatrour was phenomenal. I was absolutely terrified and he was a calming, caring, personable, and a constant source to lean on during the entire process. He explains your options prior to the procedure and he was calm while explaining the steps as I underwent the procedure. He even called that evening to check-in and provide personal phone number. I came in one day post-procedure to get rechecked before leaving the area. They will continue to follow up with me and I'll be back next time I'm in town for a recheck. If I can do the procedure, anyone can! I recommend Dr. Neatrouer and team to get you through it! read more

She's professional, knowledgeable, sweet, cordial, and personable. She was able to answer all of my questions about my upcoming procedure and put me at ease. If I called with question(s) or texted her, she would answer the same day or within 24 hours. I never felt rushed and Chelsey showed concern in every interaction. If I didn't quite get it the first time she would explain it again. If Chelsey didn't have an answer, at the time, she would make it her business to find out the answer. After my first procedure, Chelsey called to see how I was doing more than once. And she checked on me after my second procedure. All members of my family have been patients at Beach Eye Care for 10+ years. They have always been so professional and easy to work with. Today I took 2 of my children in to the optical department and was greeted by Adam. He was so pleasant and energetic to help us. He was great with the indecisive manner of my daughter and sooo patient with us. He made the experience of finding just the right frames for an 11 year old girl easy. Most of the doctors are clinically sound and professional... they have a few new grads that need to learn their place in this world and stop trying to tell adults how to live. Other than that Dr. Levine and Dr . Jain were competent and empathetic and got me some answers. The office on the other hand is just crazy disorganized and slow.... No concept of time or attempt to create better efficiency just hanging on to the old understaffed due to COVID stuff. But they are fully staffed hmmm. Add at least an hour onto your appts every time without exception. Showed up for my 820 appt on time and they were taking people for 730 appt back so I new I was in trouble. First you wait to be called, then you go to a room, then wait again, go to another area, wait AGAIN and finally might see the doctor. I've been a patient at Beach eye care for over 12 years. Dr.Dunn was the best eye dr. After he left I slowly noticed a changed in staff. Not so friendly, accommodating & very over priced. As I sit here, waiting for my 15 minute appointment for a contact check...it's very unsettling. I was here 2 weeks ago for an exam & left 3 hrs later. The dr changed my prescription after 12 years & now my eyesight seems worse w/ contacts more than ever. They are very nasty as I explain my issue's with this "new script " . So with INC & 364$ out of pocket I've had to pay in 2 weeks. Never had this issue before..still waiting. Needless to say I wont be coming back here ever again!!! read more
