We had a good stay here, with some highlights and a couple of things worth mentioning. Before we arrived, I called because we knew we'd be getting in late, and Cody at the front desk was fantastic. She made sure our room was ready for us, gave us a discount coupon for a nearby restaurant, and handed us a list of local places to check out, which was so helpful after a long day of driving. Everything was thought out in advance, and we really appreciated that level of care. The room itself was nice, and the ocean view from the balcony was lovely. The location is great, and the property definitely has that classic coastal Fort Bragg vibe. That said, for nearly $300 a night, there were a couple of misses. The shampoo bottle mounted in the shower was empty, which was disappointing -- especially at that price. Thankfully, I had brought my own. It was also pretty noisy early in the morning, with doors slamming throughout the building, which made it hard to get solid rest. Because of those things, I'm taking off one star. Even so, I genuinely liked the place and would consider staying again. I've stayed at the Beach Comber many times over the years and the location is always a highlight. You are steps from the beach, the amazing walking path, and so forth. You're also walkable to town which is a bonus. The past couple of times I stayed, though, everything has just felt a little tired and in need of a refresh. I hope that happens because this really is an ideal spot to stay. For now, I hesitate to recommend based on those experiences. read more

LOVE This place was great. Clean, comfortable. Right on the beach and a lovely paved walking path. A 20-minute or so walk to Glass Beach. Beautiful ocean views and the sound of crashing waves. LIKE Even with all the tourists, Glass Beach was sparkly and worth the trip. MEH Dude in the room next door was outside on his balcony drinking beer at sunset and in the morning. As a woman alone, it was a bit too close for my comfort. A lot of highway noise on the other side, but it was tolerable. So many people at Glass Beach for sunset, even on a weekday, and so many of them picking souvenirs to take home. Sad. Leave it for others to enjoy! read more

My family and I bought my mom and boyfriend a romantic 2 day stay at the beachcomber for Christmas. I just spoke to her and she said it was ok. Number one, when you ask for a jacuzzi tub, you are NOT asking for the brand name jacuzzi, your asking for a spa type bubbling jet hot tub and it was not. Stop playing word games! I will be more specific next time though when I require one from a different hotel! Next there was a beautiful view from the patio of the beach but no chairs to sit on to enjoy it! I haven't been to the Beachcomber in 2 years. I loved my last visit. This time not so much. The room was definitely not tooken care of the same. The card locks on the doors were corroded, making entry annoying. The room smelled and looked amazing upon entry. It was a nice room. There were things I didn't like for the price I paid. The #1 thing being the beds. They had no spring to them at all. It just felt like a bunch of blankets or a pad. The beds were so much better before. They must be using refurbished mattresses now. Our backs are killing us 2 days after being home. The coffee pot didn't work it said it needed descaled. There was no bag in the ice dish. There was a pubic hair in the soap holder in shower. The toilet & tub was so tiny. The screen didn't lock it was also very dirty. It just wasn't what I was use to for $600. And no breakfast at all, not even a muffin. The room had a great view. The office guys seemed pleasant but this place has went down hill. I highly doubt I will come back. North Cliff is a lot better now. read more

My husband and I went up to Fort Bragg for one night to ride the Skunk Train. While looking for a room we wanted specific things like close to the ocean, clean and a jacuzzi and we found all here so we booked it. We booked months in advance and we were pleasantly surprised to find out on arrival that they had just remodeled. Room #145 The room was super clean, the bed was very comfortable for us. Jacuzzi not updated but works just fine. Fills slow so have patience. I love that they took out the carpet and replaced with tile. There is no AC or heater in the room but this time of year it was not needed but during summer I'm sure we would have needed AC and during colder months heat is needed so not sure why they are provided at all. The check in was great. The person who helped us was very friendly and explained all aspects of property and rules due to fire pits and whatnot. I never have dealt with a nicer front desk person. We have an EV car and there are 2 chargers but unfortunately we couldn't use either because there was a Tesla parked in one that was not charging all night and a motor cycle parked in the other. There are super charges close by but would have been nice to get a free charge. I'm sure I could have went to the front desk and they would have found the owners but it's not worth the hassle. The beach is a close walk. They have a cute little dog area. The outside of property is well maintained and beautiful as well. read more

Haven't actually stayed here, but this place was recommended by a couple of DogTrekkers representatives I met at a booth at Bark in the Park in San Jose. Not only are they dog friendly but apparently they have a program where you can borrow a shelter dog for a few hours to play and go out with. What a great way to make a vacation even more fun and show love to a dog that really needs it. read more

Wow! Beachcomber has had a makeover! They've remodeled since our last visit and we really love it! We opted for a kitchenette unit and it's perfect! The bathroom was done and they installed anti fog mirrors that have electronics! It isn't the quietest motel on earth because there are kids, dogs and other things that some people can't deal with. For them, I suggest a more private accommodation at one of the Beachcomber ownership group's other motels nearby! The people who own these motels know what they are doing. They bring value to the table in the form of a warm friendly staff and a clean, well kept motel. We've stayed here dozens of times and will will keep coming here as long as we live! Lovely to sit outside and enjoy the view and folks walking by. The bbq area is a real plus. We stayed in a room with a kitchenette - great when you have kids. Loved staying at this place for the night! The room was clean and well decorated. The staff working last night was extremely friendly and personable, we greatly appreciated that she let us know that there wouldn't be many food places open when we arrived late last night so to make sure to eat something on the way! We spent last week at the Beachcomber. What a great place to stay! Very friendly staff. Rooms were clean. Comfortable beds, pillows, comforter.... Good size fridge/freezer, Keurig, type coffeemaker. Adirondack chairs out on the patio as seen in the video. Gas fire pits, gas bbq's for guests to use. There is also a viewing deck that is very peaceful. We took binoculars with us and could see the whales "spouting" from the upper deck. The hotel is older, but maintained. The rates are very fair imo. Sipping coffee on this beautiful property 1st thing in the morning is an amazing treat! Thx you to all the staff that were always friendly and busy cleaning ect.... We appreciate you! But there was no view from that room, didn't feel like complaining though, so we just went with it. Best part of the room was our patio, right outside our room, had several gas fire pits, BBQ grills and lots of seating. Nice touch. I would return. Wife and I stayed for 3 nights mid-week in May. We had upstairs room directly above the office, the best in my opinion. View of ocean was breathtaking. I do highly recommend upstairs rooms as the lower units have an asphalt pathway along the outer edge of the patio that eliminates any true sense of privacy. Anyone walking/biking on the path have a direct view into your room! There is no A/C so the rooms can get a bit warm just after mid-day but cools off as the sun begins to set. The best part of upstairs room is that one can leave the sliding door open and get the cooling breeze off from the ocean with no one able to peer in as what is possible to do in the lower units. Balcony has two chairs and a small table. Sit out there during the sunset with a brewskie or glass of wine in hand and it's great. There's a communal fire pit area that's quite nice for meeting other people. Room was clean, everything works as it should. There is no room service unless requested. Front desk were very polite and helpful. Again, get an upstairs room for the best experience. read more

We decided to stay here because it was dog friendly, decently priced and a amazing location. For a dog friendly motel it's decent. We stayed in 144. There are lots of dogs and ground squirrels so it's super important to have your pup leashed under control. Pros: Our room backed right up to a shared patio with seating and fire pits. We were also right next to the dog park they have for guests which was convenient. Next time I'm staying in their pet suite because they have their own personal dog door and yard. There is a dog friendly beach walking distance from the motel. And a walking path right along the back of the motel. They don't serve breakfast but have hot cocoa, coffee and tea in the morning. They have a vending machine for drink and a lobby filled with candy and snacks. You will hear the ocean. And if you get an upstairs room, you'll for sure see the ocean and sunset. Motel is super close by to everything (Glass Beach, DT Mendocino, Lighthouse, Skunk Train). And for those that think it's important to know, their shampoo and hand soap brand is Paya. Cons: The bathroom could use an update along with the light socket plates, windows and screen door. We needed some air in our room and felt uncomfortable leaving our door open because the screen door had no lock. And the constant slamming of doors and extra loud walkie talkies by the maintenance crew drove me nuts. The doors were so loud it shook the walls. Motel is right on Hwy 1 so you'll hear traffic. Parking is basically first come first served and not designated. Although, we were pretty lucky. read more

The view are so nice and have a bunch of trails to walk along. You are walking distance down to glass beach! They have bike rentals and a nice walking/riding patch. We came to Ft. Bragg for my daughter's birthday. I'd done a fair amount of research/ comparison shopping before deciding on the Beachcomber Motel & Spa. I liked the location and that it looked clean & comfortable. Pros: Convenient location. Ample Free Parking Free WiFi Balcony Rooms Microwave, fridge & coffee maker Cons: Bathroom set-up. Sink in the bedroom space, **small** room with toilet & tub. Mattress condition. Painfully bad! Long overdue for an upgrade. Pillows, too. Door lock card-readers are corroded & need to be replaced. At times it would take between 15-20 swipes to get the door to unlock! No breakfast available, continental or otherwise. Other things to consider: I'm not sure why they call this a "Motel & SPA". There is no on-site spa facility. That one staircase is bizarre & dangerous! The only way to access it, or exit it, is from an EV parking space. If the parking space is occupied, it's next to impossible to get to! Not a great situation when your room is near the top of the staircase, and you're trying to get your luggage upstairs with you. Many reviews mention recent updating to the rooms. My room could have used some of those upgrades. I expected more for the price I paid for a two night stay. The room was ok...what I'd call a standard room. The views were great, but those beds. Ouch! read more

I made the mistake of booking through a 'booking' website, and to my dismay got the room with no ocean view as feared. make sure to book directly so you can request your room specifically, and try to get a second floor or middle of the first floor choices. Highly recommend! Check in was easy and employees were all friendly and accommodating. Lobby is small and clean. They had complimentary coffee & tea and had some Fort Bragg merchandise for sale. Easy access to the beach and cliffs. We stayed in room 208 with balcony view of the beach and bluffs. Check in is at 3pm and check out at 11am. They allowed us a llate check out at 12pm. They had 1 75kW EV charger in their parking lot-free. Loved their communal fire pit picnic area which is located next to their dog run. We stayed in a pet free room. Pros: Awesome location with a great view of the ocean and beach where Pudding Creek empties into the Pacific. Upstairs room with balcony is clean and efficient, the bed is very comfortable. Refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker made it easy to relax and enjoy the room. Easy walk down to the beach and along the bluffs, 13 minutes walk over to Glass Beach. Very friendly staff. Cons: these would not stop me from returning but you should know that there's a bike and walking path right off the balcony and if you are on the ground floor folks are walking right by your room. Upstairs the rooms and balconies are very close together, the toilet and shower room is tight and the tub didn't really fill up. Overall we will return and recommend, but some people won't like the close proximity to their neighbors and the bike path read more

The lady at the front office says "we can give you the cleaning supplies to clean your room because you only get one cleaning every 3 days." The wifi was struggling most of the time, could definitely either have increased speeds or extenders in each room, Netflix was constantly loading. Sadly, the in-room towels were very small and scratchy, not a fan. Love that there's a fridge and microwave, awesome bonus, also love the size of the tv. Room condition: Room was clean and neat, but the strong smell of menthol wasn't very inviting. Staff courtesy: only interacted with staff at check in so not much to say here, they were nice. Overall: It was a good experience and we LOVED being able to see and hear the ocean from our room. The bed was comfy and I like the soap, shampoo, conditioner dispensers. 2 big things: wall decor should be updated (the paintings and frames are so ugly i'm sorry) and why have carpets on the outside stairs? this place is right by the water and water + carpet = mildew. lots of stains on the outside carpets so may want to consider removing it. For the price this was an excellent motel. This isn't the Burj Al Arab and I didn't expect it to be but the carpet and floor was very clean. The bathroom was very clean and fresh. The bed was flat with great sheets. The room was dead quite. I had an ocean view. The woman who checked me in was super efficient and friendly. Rooms are clean and several have extra perks like the dog room with dog door to private dog area, kitchenette room, rooms with sliding glass doors to their outdoor patio area. Dog park. So disappointed with this motel. This is my third time here and we were put in a downstairs room when I specifically requested an upstairs room through our booking. When I attempted to ask to be moved, the front desk attendant told me that no other rooms were available when, in fact, there were a stack of forms that he was searching through of people yet to be checked in. Then he lied to me stating that because I booked through a third party they "are always booked on the bottom floor" which is absolutely not true as I always book through a third party and have never been placed in a downstairs room. The room is dank and there are people constantly walking through our "private patio." The room is about the quality of a Motel 6 when you take away the views that you have on the upstairs level, for about 4x the rate of one. If you come, make sure to ask for an upstairs room. Although you may need to call daily between your booking and when you arrive to make sure your request is fulfilled. Probably not coming back after this visit as our anniversary trip that we saved up for is now ruined--definitely not enough privacy in a downstairs room to celebrate an anniversary! As an update: the light in our patio was out and when we asked them to replace it, they said we had to wait for maintenance and they wouldn't be in until the next day. We would be refunded $40 for the inconvenience. No refund and it's been several weeks. Also, we asked that they fix the lock on the screen slider so that we could securely enjoy being near the ocean without having people able to walk right into our room off the walking trail directly behind the motel and they told us they can't keep up with the maintenance on the screen doors as they are frequently broken. The room was not equipped with AC (since it's in Ft. Bragg) but without having the door open for ventilation, it was so stuffy and hot in the room we couldn't sleep. Not only was the screen door unable to lock, but the glass slider also had issues so we had to jam it shut with a bar to keep our room secure. Horrible experience all around. read more
