It is often understood that the first Pride was a riot. And when I say riot I do not mean that a person or situation is so funny that it indunces jumping and keeling within others while they have a convulsive fit of laughter. I mean riot in the conventional sense- a riot is meant to destroy a system that supresses. And thus the patrons and partiers of Stonewall bar, in the late 1960's, rioted in a commitment to destroy the othering of the LGBT+ community. Of course, the patrons and partiers fought but they failed in that day's battle. However, they were the spark that ignited the fuse that still burns, and when it booms completely, with a loud, loud, blast, LGBT+ culture will be fully accepted in this world. Will the day ever come? Stick around and see, this parade of change deserves an audience. Since the first LGBT+ riot, every subsequent year the patrons and partier's conviction and might are honored, as well as the strength, resilience and vibrant spirit of those who claim to be a sparkle of the LGBT+ rainbow. I was at Beaches Weho this past Pride Weekend to be part of the yearly burst of joy and I could not help but think of how LGBT+ progression has evolved. What would the Stonewall warriors think of where Pride is? What would they think of the spoils of the war they begun? Would they be happy with the advancement of the LGBT+ community? These questions might seem random but given where and when I was they seemed necessary. As some of the picture shows. Beaches Weho, which is nestled in the streets of Weho that are known as the Heart of Pride, held the Main Event of Pride's Saturday night--- Electric Rainbow. And the Electric Rainbow was portrayed as a tornado that ferociously swirled in the seven colors of the rainbow. Thus, the Rainbow was not an arch or a bridge as commonly imagined, it had evolved into a windy tunnel capable of engulfing and displacing homes, cows, and cars. And I think that the partiers and patrons of the first Stonewall riot would revel in these facts, because their intent was to make Pride a moving mass that could not be ignored or be halted. For these reasons, I believe that the foreparents of Pride are filled with satisfaction and glee knowing that their pain and humiliation purchased a night , actually many nights, and actually days, of revelry that happened without fear. And that I think was their hope, to help members of the LGBT+ live proudly without fear and for that I hope every partier at Beaches Weho grooved with just a bit of gratitude for them. The joint offers a great party experience. There is a patio for quieter drinking and people watching. I saw a couple- looked like a straight couple- with a baby carriage. They might have been strolling a dog, I live in LA, I have seen that but I hope their was a human baby in there. That would mean that Pride is not threatening, it is really safe enough for babies. While I was in the second floor, I saw the crowd really dance with energy. I saw a guy with tubes of shots, sell these for 5 dollars. When someone paid for one he would feed them the shot in a tube. The moment enhanced their funny because how else are you accepting a shot in a tube but with joy and heightened bodily movement. I really like the photo where the club is dark- the lights are not in full blast- and their is a red glaring light coming from test tube holder. It was a moment where the party offered me a special twinkle of delight that I was able to catch, happily. That was not the only time that I saw red lights make the party more special. I stepped into the room that had many ball shaped lights above. They turned on and off in sequence. I also caught pictures and a video of that. These small and quick pulses in red were fun. The rest of the club had lights, people, lasers, dancers on stages that made me feel that Pride was experience of interrupted joy, just like it should have been in Stonewall the night of the riot. But I guess the journey was what mattered, not just yesterday's pride party oat Beaches WeHo. But both are important. read more

Went here with 5 friends to celebrate a 21st birthday. All 4 friends with California IDs got in without issue. I was denied entry despite having a completely valid, genuine Oregon driver's license, over an ID check that made no sense. The first bouncer looked at my ID and said he couldn't determine if it was valid, so he passed me to a second bouncer. That bouncer checked it under a blacklight and refused me entry, claiming there were "two things" that didn't check out, but couldn't say what those two things actually were when I asked. He seemed nervous and unsure of himself the whole time, like he didn't really know what he was looking for. My ID is a legitimate, current Oregon vertical license with the standard reflective and translucent security features. It's real, and I'm 21. Meanwhile, other IDs in my group got barely a glance, which says a lot about how thorough (or not) this "check" actually was. While I was standing there being denied, a shirtless dancer/performer from the club got up on the outside bar and started arguing with me about why I wasn't being let in. That's not his job, and it was rude and completely unprofessional, not the kind of customer service you'd expect from staff representing the venue. What made it worse: I work across the street and have for over a year. I'm well known in the area, and I've even had this club's own manager stop by my workplace to talk about upcoming events. None of that mattered. I was polite and even complimented the first bouncer on his professionalism, but got brushed off with no real explanation while my friends went in ahead of me. Between the ID confusion, the lack of any real explanation, and staff who seemed inexperienced across the board, this whole interaction felt unprofessional from start to finish. If you're coming from out of state, be ready for inconsistent, arbitrary ID checks, and don't expect the staff to explain themselves if they get it wrong. read more

If you're longing for Don Johnson to travel in a time machine back to 1985 when he was the epitome of South Beach cool, then this bar is for you because the owners are intentionally invoking the Miami club scene back then. Jamie W and I were able to grab a couple of seats at a half-empty round table and watch the festivities in a semi-sober state. No matter as we sipped $10 Tequila Sunrises. Beaches you have truly upgraded yourself from the former Rage-era. I love it and the powers beachside ambiance. This place reads as miami but also LA simultaneously and in the highest of qualities from the pink neon glows, to the never ending amount of mirror balls in spinning suspension. Ben the bartender is a great ambassador of Beaches and was super kind as he made great drinks with focus and stealth. He is a great addition to your property as is this amazing Wednesday night Drawing Class : entitled 'Drink & Draw' (ok if you say so ) models stoke poses as fun art people sketch and paint and charcoal for the given pose and it's cool to watch and see and reminds me I should always travel with my own personal drawing supplies and this place reminds me to. Line looks long but goes very fast. Very packed at entrance before the bar, but when you get all the way in there is plenty of space. Gogo dancers were so sexy and fun, great DJ playing all the club hits. Bar downstairs and upstairs- (might be cheaper upstairs ;) and very spacious upstairs with seating too. This was my first time at a Drag brunch and I must say the Beaches at Weho don't play they come to serve and have a good time! We went in honor of my friends mom birthday. We were able to get a table with no problem and felt included and welcomed by the staff. The manager was there and when he found out it we were celebrating her birthday he bought the entire restaurant multiple rounds of shots! Which were delicious by the way. The food options were plenty- although they were out of waffles this day - it was no secret and they made up for it with the best Drag show possible. Got a quick drink and bite here. It's more intimate and smaller compared to the other bars in Weho, but gets pretty packed later at night. Service can take a little bit of time so if you want a drink without a wait then just hit up the bar. I got the Tostones Cups with Picadillo for an appetizer. These were really well done. Security here is incredibly rude and corrupt. I was planning to go here with my legitimate ID. The woman security guard wouldn't let me in then wouldn't give it back to me. After I wouldn't give her bribe money to give my ID back, she was incredibly rude then wouldn't continue to talk to me. She clearly just did this to scam some extra cash. They did a great job with the remodel . Beautiful patio just perfect for a Saturday drag brunch . We had no reservation so we waited until someone cancelled theirs to be seated which was quick . Host sat us upstairs with a somewhat obscured vision of the performances but didn't disappoint. The performances were amazing ! Great professionals . Our server , i believe Anthony ? Was great . He had to go up and down the stairs , I would've fallen. On the food side the yucca fries in my opinion are better than regular fries . Super crispy and just tasted delicious . Firstly, I was a little sus'd out because the bouncer tried to charge two people in front of me 50 dollars each to get in, and then proceeded to charge me 10. After a moment's hesitation, the price changed to 5??? The fact that the bouncer is playing god with the prices is already a redflag. However, the most pressing issue occured when I ordered drinks. I ordered three vodka crans, which totalled 48 dollars before tip. Fortunately, I'm used to pricey drinks coming from San Francisco and was okay with the price. However, the bartender dropped the drink while serving it; tried to catch it with his hand. Three of his fingers went into my drink. He watched me watch him. Without acknowledging, he asked for my card and closed me out. WTF. That drink needed to be remade or on the house. I didn't see the bartender wash his hands or anything and therefore was served a drink with someone's grimey hands in it. I am beyond disgusted. Don't go here! read more

Fun fun fun. Billy the master of ceremonies is so fun. Walking along looking for an interesting place for dinner after the first place with an outstanding location was nearly empty at a very suspect hour. I'd walked past the place several times in the recent couple days and during slow times it had seemingly the same tables in service. So even though their menu looked good, lack of diners tells another version. Walking by Beaches it was gaudy and loud and packed. Good sign of something. Initially we were seated up on a balcony which offered a nice view and all seemed cool. After a moment perusing the menus a table down at the open entrance freed up so we took it. Great food. Straight outta the gate. Everything we ordered was delicious. The burrito entree my some ordered was delicious though he said it tasted weird, some oil was drizzled across it. Can't recall what it was. The appetizers, some cauliflower bites were served with an assortment of dipping sauces. Mango habanero (barely spicy, but sweet), Buffalo (standard), the last was a ranch variation and perfect. Wife loved the tacos. My girlfriend wanted to do drag brunch at in West Hollywood. We had a bad experience at other bars on santa monica blvd. Beaches was a different experience, it was perfect for our big group, mimosas were good (they give you the bottles and juice), food was pretty decent for a bar, but the best part was the experience and the service. He was carrying 5 tostones on a plate, dropped one, and proceeded to serve my friend 80% of the food she was supposed to have. I ordered a turnover since flatbread was out which we learned 5 minutes later was also unavailable. The drag show wasn't great today and didn't have much dancing, most lip syncing to weird audio. My friends and I were in town for pride this weekend and decided to drop in since we saw a lot of people here who seemed to be enjoying themselves. Everyone working had a major attitude problem. Security was rude and kept shining their flashlights in our faces while yelling at everyone in line and taking money from people who didn't want to wait in line. Just a week ago I went to PUMP with a friend who was an enthusiastic fan of everything Lisa Vanderpump, and was very pleasantly surprised when our server (AJ) was just fantastic. So when a different friend wanted to go to Beaches for the first time, and shared that it's the latest Vanderpump offering in the neighborhood, I thought... sure... why not. Kind of had the opposite experience. We were seated on a kind of slow night and had to wait for five minutes for our server, who seemed to be flirting with a male server and not attending to any customers. We placed our orders, and got our drinks, which were delicious. Had to flag her down to get menus when we wanted to order food five minutes later (no big deal), and it took a few minutes to get our menus. Took longer to get her back to take our order. Seemed like she was socializing with her coworkers again in a corner of the restaurant. The food arrived, and it was a bit uninspired. Like Chilis or Friday's, honestly. The Lobster Nachos had a few tiny pieces of lobster that were roughly the size and color of pink erasers on the end of a number 2 pencil. Didn't taste it and don't know that we'd have missed it if it weren't there. The french fries were just sort of standard. The hot wings had good flavor, but the portion size was a bit smaller than most places when you get an order of hot wings. Just a let-down overall. It took us ten minutes to flag her down when we were ready to pay and leave, and another ten minutes until we got the little black pleather binder. She walks away. We open it. It's empty. Five more minutes until we could get her back to get a check. Five more minutes until we could get her to take our money. All in all it was like a half an hour process from when we were ready to go until we could settle up and leave. And the place wasn't busy. The drinks were great, the location fantastic. Liked the decor and the energy. The food could have been good with a little fine tuning (more lobster on the nachos, more chicken wings in a serving, something more interesting w/ the french fries). But that was some of the worst service I've had in West Hollywood in years. It was pretty clear that our waitress was way more interested in chatting up her male colleagues than she was in waiting on her tables. It appeared that other tables were becoming equally impatient and frustrated as well. Will give the place another shot. Maybe if we order the right things and get a different server, the strengths that the place brings to the table will dramatically improve the experience as a customer. I certainly hope so, because it's not going to last if their staff doesn't get focused. read more

I'm torn with a 3 or 4 star review. The service was good and the ambiance was good. My Cuban sandwich was very good but the price at $17 for the quantity is my internal debate. Maybe had they given a heap of plantain chips as the side or a beefier sandwich? I may feel different but it's not the scenario. I realize the spot they're in and the price of their lease is probably very high but that is then the establishment's responsibility to create a buzz around what they offer and why they're the place to eat, drink and not choose their competitors.
