Review based off of Wash and Fold: Easy peasy to drop off. Easy peasy to pick up. I can usually ask for a 24 hour turnaround and they make it happen. I've never had any issues with damage to my stuff. I had one time a wool sweater was shrank, but that's on me. I didn't mean to throw it in my bag to begin with, and I didn't ask for dry cleaning, just wash and fold, so just be aware of what you're throwing in there. They also ask what kind of detergent you would like. read more

I just did my laundry tonight 04/17/26 at Beacon Street Laundromat in Summerville, Mass. What a warm, welcoming harmonious place to wash my clothes. The owner was delightful and very obliging. The cost for washing and drying my clothes was right on point.The machines and floors were nice and clean. I haven't used many laundromats in the area so this is subject to change depending on experiences elsewhere... But the cost of doing laundry was more than I expected. The large washers are around $7.25 per load, and the small ones were around $3.25. Dryers are only $1.00 (if you wash your clothes there), but unfortunately the coin dispenser was broken so you'll have to provide those on your own. Personally I was looking for either a cheaper wash or somewhere that you could pay with a card, so I'm marking it down a bit. Again, perhaps these are standard for the area, I don't know (but in that case I think I'd also rate the standard with three stars lol). read more

I have used the Beacon Street Laundromat for many years and Dominic was a sweet and lovely man. After the ownership has been transferred, my experience has changed significantly. One time, they stopped me and accused me for putting broken bricks in the dryer for no reason and asked me to pay them to replace the industrial dryer's drum based on just their accusation. I was very emotional and didn't engage and left my contact information and they sent me a bill of 2000 dollars. I contacted a lawyer to talk to them instead and asked them to provide any evidence (as they have a surveil camera in the shop, if I did do such a thing, they surely could have captured it.) But because they didn't, they did not respond to my lawyer. I don't want to hurt small business owners as I know it is so tough for them, but as customers, you also need to protect yourself. read more

The laundromat was clean. We washed several loads. However, when we needed dryers, most were out of order. The ones that worked were all full. Another patron said the machines were not drying her clothes. So, we took our wet laundry and left. Only come here at odd hours. read more

The laundromat is under new ownership, the owner is amazingly nice, wash/dry/fold is a dollar/pound for regular clothes (cost me $8 to do a load of shirts and pants, no heavy towels or anything, and they came back smelling nice and folded!). Washing machines vary from $4 to $6 a load depending on the size of the washer. The medium size washer would fit my comforter, for example. The large is enormous. Free WIFI! read more

Some of their machines are frequently broken, they typically close too early, and sometimes it smells like cigarette smoke. Maybe i should just use their wash/dry/fold service so i dont have to deal with the drama. Update 3/9/07: Just did my laundry here, and now all my towels have globs of tar stuck to them. I've used them for a long time for self-service and they're good for that, but I used them for drop-off laundry today. Told the woman I dropped them off with, and left printed notes on the bags, to use free & clear detergent and no fabric softener or dryer sheets. Everything came back scented and with that dryer-sheet oiliness. (Also charged me for a coat to wash a bathrobe.) Phone conversation afterwards didn't resolve anything. I've been holding off on writing a review for this place because it's the closest place to me and I'm going to continue going no matter what. However, I have rarely had good experiences here and I've definitely had a few bad ones. Last night pushed me over the edge. To start, the washers and dryers are expensive and half of them are out of order at all times. If you look at the one other review for this place, they melted my roommate's clothes. I'm never really sure if my clothes are going to be truly cleaned and dried the way I want them to be. Last night, I put my $4.50 into one of the larger washing machines and waited for it to start. No dice. Luckily, the guy that worked there was there and started putting quarters into it. He finally realized that the handle was slightly broken so you had to move it just the right way to get the washer to start. But hey, no out of order sign! And if he hadn't been there, I would have been out $4.50 (which is a lot of money for a goddamn wash). I washed the clothes, placed them in the dryer and went across the street to my apartment. About an hour later, I came back to get my clothes. A sign was placed on the window that there had been an emergency and that they were closed. With my clothes inside. A phone number was attached, so I placed the call and the employee told me his grandmother was sick and that he would be back at some point. I told him I had somewhere to be and asked if he could drop the clothes off at my house. He agreed. Long story short, I ended up back in the area and picked my clothes up a few hours later on my own. I cannot even comprehend how unprofessional it is to close your business while someone still has clothes inside when you're supposed to be open. I'll obviously still go back here because it's really my only option, but I wish I didn't have to. read more

I drop my laundry off. They wash dry and fold every last thing. Even your socks. Everything is clean, smells great......I end up spending less than when I do it myself. Plus for the time it saves me, it is worth the money to me. They have never lost anything of mine or ruined anything. I pre-separate everything into several different bags and attach instructions to each i.e.....bleach, hot water......cold water, darks only......warm water, gentle cycle..........they always get it correct. Also, they weigh it in front of you and it is strictly by the pound Usually done in three days. read more

With good wifi access, plenty of machines of well-maintained machines, and great owner, doing laundry here is an enjoyable experience. === I rolled into this place super stressed out; I had a veritable MOUNTAIN of clothes in distributed among about 5 trash bags that I needed to get washed to avoid smelling like my stereotypical computer nerd self. Upon walking in I was pleasantly greeted by the owner who was bobbin' his head to the beats comin' over the sound system: "Legalize it...don't criticize it....". This is possibly the best self-service laundromat experience I've ever had. Was housesitting for friends in the area and the power got shut off right as I was about to do laundry and send off some very important emails. What to do?! I found this place via Yelp and saw that they have free wireless. So I came right over. The owner is super friendly. He greeted me warmly, told me which machines to use for my amount of wash, made change for me, let me use the bathroom even though it's not open to the public, and even "loaned" me detergent because I forgot to bring some. My emails got sent, the music was totally entertaining, and now I have clean clothes. I highly recommend this place. read more

My new favorite Thursday after work destination. Laundry is 85 cents a pound if you get it laundered - which is the way to go in my opinion. I drop off my laundry after work on Thursday and can pick it up at 7.00 am on Friday morning. They do a great job - it smells fresh, is very clean, and is folded perfectly. Also - they do pick up and drop off laundry and dry cleaning if you want. If you are interested in doing your own laundry - I believe that a wash costs $4 and drying is 25 cents per 15 minutes. They also do alterations and dry cleaning - although I haven't tested them out yet. Hours: 7.00 AM - 10.00 PM during the week, I don't know about their weekend hours read more

Although this place is a bit further from me, I decided to lug 1 load of laundry here since I wanted to check Cafe Rustica (good!) next door and then had to meet someone nearby soon after. The place is rather small and a bit cramped, but makes good use of space and packs in machines. A wash is pricier than Highland Laundromat at ($3 vs $2.25) for a single load, but was also a bit bigger so maybe it's more comparable to the double load, in which case it's the same. The driers were $0.25/ 8 minutes which is cheaper than Highland. If Highland and Beacon St. Laundry were side by side, I would go with Beacon Street. For the better interior and better kept and machines. read more

The woman who runs this establishment is like a laundry hawk, watching over all her customers, ensuring they're following best practices for themselves and for her machines. She never comes off as abrasive. Simply that she cares about her establishment. It shows, that she cares, as the place is always spotless. Pristine, as if I've walked into a Dentist's, I feel unworthy to clean my clothes here. New machines and a friendly clientele make this place worth coming to. Also, it's incredibly inexpensive. That said, I do have one first world complaint. This place is a five minute walk from my apartment. In the summer that's too long. But that's a critique on societies without teleporting machines and/or laundry units in every apartment. read more

I have been meaning to write this review for some time and finally made time. This place rocks! I have been bringing my comforters here since moving to the neighborhood in 2007 and was very glad when Dominic took over a few years ago. He is such a nice and friendly man. Well, in the last few months, due to issues with the washer and dryer in my building, I have come here on two occasions to do my laundry. The most recent was Friday morning. First, Dominic is the nicest person ever! He always has a smile and a greeting for you. He keeps the place clean and creates a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere (nice music and wifi plus the cafe next door). The machines are newer and in good shape. I arrived around 8:30 on Friday morning and the place was buzzing with the regulars. Dominic made a point of asking about each of them and it was clear they have a relationship, not just chit-chat. I loaded up a few machines and just before I loaded my last, I asked Dominic about the best cycle for my electric blanket. He told me and I went about my business. He then comes over 10 min later, taps me on the shoulder and says "Kelli, I should have warned you that sometimes the spin cycle is off when there is a small load like the blanket. We will keep an eye on it and restart the cycle if there's a problem." Wow! What a nice guy...he warned me there might be a problem (there was not) BEFORE there was one and offered to fix it! More impressive, he remembered my name!! I am only there once every few months after I've cycled through my comforters. Prior to Friday, I had not been there in a month or more and prior to that, had not been there since March. I highly recommend Beacon Street for your laundry. read more

As far as laundromats go Beacon Street Laundromat is at the top of my list. I did my laundry there for roughly 2 years before moving to the Northend...truth be told my girlfriend and I enjoy BSL so much as well as the owner who is awesome, that we have indeed returned to do laundry and to simply hang out. The owner is great, funny and generally in fantastic spirits. BSL offers wash dry fold (WDF for those in the know) at $1/pound which I think is pretty reasonable. The turnaround is even better at typically 1 day. Though I never utilized this service those that do seem to be quite satisfied. Beacon Street is one of the best laundromats in the area. It's always clean, never smells like the one across the train tracks and is typically easy to find a suitable machine to use. If you live on Beacon Street in S'ville or around that area in Cambridge go to BSL and you will love it...if you're new to the neighborhood do not be afraid to strike a conversation with Dominic the owner...top notch. The cafe next door is delicious too. read more

Due to the fact that I do not drive, and I have no onsite washing machines, Laundry can be a real chore. The local place to me is sketchy at best, so every now and then I beg a ride from a friend and do multiple loads at the same time. First off, the place is clean, unlike the sketch place by me where i wouldn't even fold my clothes on their table. Also, the owner seems to be there all the time. He offers tips about what machines would be good for your size load, and warns you if a machine is temperamental. He is very nice, In addition to the rolling carts and tabletop for folding, he has also provided leather chairs for those who want to sit and read, plenty of magazines, and also stools, counter top space, and wifi for those who bring their laptop or want to study. I highly recommend this place to anyone in Somerville or Cambridge who is also without onsite laundry. read more

UNBELIEVABLE experience tonight. I lived across the street from this place for two years and used them every weekend; they were friendly and clean, and I recommended them. NEVER EVER AGAIN. The dryer I've used since moving broke tonight. No problem, I thought--I'll take my load of dripping wet clothes to my fave old place for drying. I raced across town to get there on a Saturday night before closing. And, incredibly, the owner/manager folding clothes there refused to let me put my clothes in the dryer, because I hadn't washed them there. WHAT?????!!!!! I explained, warmly and nicely, that I was a loyal weekly customer for over two years--and that I was desperate. Which she could see, since I was standing there holding a big heavy wet pile of laundry. I begged her, maintaining super-politeness. I even offered her $20, rather than the 75 cents actually required for one of the many empty dryers. I mean, all of my clothes were wet in my arms. And she actually WOULD NOT LET ME USE A DRYER. 2.5 hours from closing, with NO other customers visible. How is this even possible? She didn't even bother to hide behind a lie: I have to close early, every dryer you see is broken, once you leave the neighborhood you are legally prohibited from local laundry use, etc. I know I'll laugh about The Laundry Nazi someday. But now I'm sitting in my car, all my clothes for tomorrow and beyond dampening my passenger seat, wondering how basic human kindness could be so profoundly absent. Stand up for basic decency (and avoid being treated this way your own self) and USE ANOTHER LAUNDRY. read more

There are two things I never thought I'd do: 1. Enjoy laundry 2. Be moved enough by a business to write a Yelp review. Beacon Street Laundromat changed all that. The owner is very friendly. He chatted with me for a bit, but mostly he was doing his own thing, which was great because it gave me the opportunity to get some work done using the FREE WIFI. This place is so peaceful I actually got more work done here than I would at home. The prices are reasonable. $3 for the smallest washer, which was still fairly big. And 25 cents/8 minutes on the driers, which do a nice job drying (as in, I didn't need more than 2 quarters per load). I will be back! read more

Never thought I'd have a pleasant, even enjoyable, laundromat experience. Routine is expected, yes, and more often than not, slightly annoying. Oh, but laundry can be fun when Bowie is wafting through the speakers! The owner greeted us when my roommate and I walked in, and it definitely has a cozy vibe, as cozy as a laundromat can be. In addition to the selection of magazines and books, free wifi is available and even a laptop to peruse if you haven't brought your own. And the kicker -- my roommate and I truly considered coming back even though we now have laundry in our basement. The only thing that could possibly make it better is a plate of chocolate chip cookies. read more

I live in a building with a bunch of yeahdudes who have done something to our washer/dryer that inexplicably make my clothes smell worse *after* they've been cleaned. Plus, the lone washer/dryer combo is in the scariest basement ever. What's a crisp-sheet lovin' gal to do? Go to beacon street laundromat! The washing machines are pretty new, and the dryers are amazing and actually {GASP} dry your clothes with one quarter, sometimes two, tops! Dominic, the owner, is very friendly and helpful. He's always walking through the 'mat and saying hello to patrons. There's almost always parking right out front, free wifi if you get bored or have work to do, places to sit, and a cafe next door that serves nummy grub and has outdoor seating during the summer months when being in a hot laundromat for extended periods of time seems unbearable. Part of the reason I moved into a house with a washer and dryer was to avoid having to go to the laundromat. However, the washer and dryer is owned by my roommate who has a lot of finicky rules about when and how I can use them. In order to avoid a laundry war my dirty clothes end up sitting around in piles like a scene out of Cinderella. So I decided to stop the madness and go to the laundromat and wash all my clothes at once. This laundromat is not like any laundromat I have been to, meaning that it is very clean, almost all the machines work, and it is not sketchy at in any way. There are funky chairs, music, free wifi, a sink to wash your hands, three fans, and you can use the detergent (and other cleaning products) people have left behind. I was able to fit almost all of my clothes in the large washer. My clothes clothes came out very clean and the dryer left my dress shirt unwrinkled for the most part. The owner was great, very friendly and helpful. He is the kind person whose makes it easy for me to want to support his business. Five stars all around and cheers to me not living in a laundry pit! read more

This more than just a mere mortal laundromat. This is as good as it gets...while you're doing your laundry. Here's a picture: Nice big leather chairs, rows of books, absurd amounts of recent and updated magazines to suit any fancy, fantastic kickass tunes (that's right..music you'll actually groove to) and some great conversation. Dom is a wonderful, considerate man who is incredibly intelligent. So late night chats are highly recommended. He also hires fantastic workers, who are friendly, responsible, and folding-laundry ninjas. Seriously, how does one fold fitted sheets? Oh I'll never know the mysteries! Although, if you prefer to drop off your laundry, I assure you, it's in good hands. Top all of this off with a sweet little cafe next door, free wifi, disco globes, and the occasional Landro-Comedy nights (yes, you've heard right) and you've got a laundry-revolution (get it? revolution? laundry cycle? eh eh?)! And oh sure, the machines are nice and big and clean. And oh sure, your stuff won't get stolen get. And oh sure it's not creepy at all. Dominic has saved my life at least three times. For some reason I always end up doing my laundry 1 hour before closing, at 8pm. Then I forget about it. Twice, Dominic waited for me AFTER 9pm with no indication that I was coming back. The third time, he was about to call it an early night but my laundry was the only laundry left and I wasn't there... So he *puts it in the drier* for me! And then waits! When I come back around 8:30, I have my clothes all ready. Beacon St. laundromat is top notch. My boyfriend and I frequented this laundromat when we lived in the area. It is a cut above all other laundromats in the Cambridge/Somerville area. It is clean and a welcoming environment. The owner, Dominic, is a really genuine, nice guy. We would often visit on the walk home to just chat! As another reviewer mentioned, the music playing is a nice touch and the local artwork is always interesting to look at. We've since moved out of the neighborhood but occasionally make a little afternoon trip to see Dominic and take care of our laundry. read more

I had to wash my queen sized extra warm down comforter. I called on Monday and asked if they had XL washers and dryers that would fit a comforter and was told that I could come by on Tuesday. So I'm here, comforter, detergent, and tennis balls in tow, but, after using the washer, I was told by the woman working here that no, I cannot use the XL dryers. One of the XL dryers is available; it's not in use ... but she said she has a towel service to do so I may not use it. I reminded her I had called ahead, that the entire reason I was there on a Tuesday morning was to use their XL dryer and she said, "No. I have towel service." So here I am, sitting at the laundromat with a wet down comforter, writing a yelp review while I wait ... even though I called ahead just to make sure that I could clean comforter. Ever since the new owner took this place over a couple of years ago, it's been great. He's a very nice guy, and super hard worker. He's there 7 days a week, all day. Very friendly. The kind of local business owner that you want to support. I use his wash and fold service. Reasonably priced, and he does a very good job. Fast turnaround. If you want to do your own laundry there, he offers free wifi, and comfortable places to wait for your laundry. Nice clean place, with a great cafe next door. read more

Wash/Dry/Fold, motherf'er, that's where it's at. $.85/pound is pretty good, much better than other places in the area. Just wash everything cold unless you want rainbow colored everything. Don't expect service with a smile, but your laundry will always be ready by the quoted time and folded to perfection. Seriously, what are you doing feeding quarters into a machine and making sure a homeless person doesn't pee into your machine??? Just drop your laundry off and get on with your day! read more

this was my first time using a wash-dry-fold business. to me, it was a small miracle that someone would actually do all that for $1.20 per pound. i handed them 17# of clothes and $20 later it should be all ready to wear. i was pretty pleased. everything but my jeans and dress shirts came wearable. they don't put an iron to your clothes - which makes sense. i mean it was only $20. but things were folded immaculately. my dress shirts were fairly wrinkle free but i'll have to hit them with an iron before wearing. interestingly, i called the owner because my jeans were shrunk a little. he simply said, "bring them in and we'll compensate you." i calmed down a little after that and then tried my jeans on again. they weren't that bad. and then when i checked the tag on the jeans it said, "5% shrinkage expected in wash". so they didn't mess up at all! but it says something that the owner just calmly agreed to take responsibility. all in all, i was happy with it. one suggestion: just let people know that more dressier clothing will still have to be pressed and give an option to have them press it for you for a higher cost. i might've done it! read more

The lady who owns this laundromat now is friendly upon first interaction, but argues with patrons if clothing does not get sufficiently spun to remove excess water-- in her own washers---and then blocks them from being put in the dryers until you pay for them to go through another spin cycle. I've used the same washer and dryer with similar circumstances multiple times without her blocking me from using the dryer. My clothes always dried well in the two extra large dryers, but she said that "heavy" damp laundry cannot go in to the dryers because it will break her machines. She told me i had to split my laundry and pay for them to go in to a third machine to wash, and to dry. Maybe her washers should sufficiently spin clothes. read more

They don't separate dark from lights when you bring in a bag of laundry. hence, the wash is never really "clean." They will separate it for you for an extra $2.50 or so. If you bring a really heavy bag of laundry - they fit it all in one washer to save themselves money. Things aren't 100% clean. They don't fold well - shirts are still inside out; socks aren't paired off. More expensive than NYC laundromats! I found the cleaning portal on Mass Ave to be a better deal. They separate the laundry for you. read more

This place is convenient to where I live. That's all. The washers smell like backyard puddle water. If I drop a sock between loads, I feel like I should wash my clothes again. There is almost no space to fold your laundry. But, it's cheap and nearby so I keep going... ..until tonight. At drying time, half of the dryers were broken. Except for one which had a sign that read, "Very Hot!". Now, I'm not by any means a master launderer but I would assume this is a good quality for a dryer to have. I could not have been more wrong. My sheets came out smoking and my synthetic outdoor clothes were melted together into an expensive nylon mess. I guess that's why they have signs all over the place that say they're not responsible for damaged clothes. Lesson learned, I'm going somewhere else... read more

As good as it gets for a laundromat! Great experience. Really, I had about 10 loads to do today and got it done super fast thanks to the enormous capacity of the washers and dryers. I used the giant machines that cost $6 a load, but really, it's like doing 2 or 3 loads in one. There are smaller more inexpensive machines you can use as well. The dryers were super efficient and not too expensive ($.25 per 8 min). I loved the free wifi, great radio and music. I didn't have a problem getting a parking spot either, which was nice. The owner was very friendly, and helped me choose the right jumbo machine to get the jobs done. I have a laundry room in our basement, but if I ever have to get a ton of stuff done all at once again I will be coming back! read more

The lady is super nice but she can't understand English. I gave her my laundry for wash and fold service and never told me that she doesn't separate the colors from the whites! I got my white shirt back with black and brown color stains on them and when I tried asking her, she would tell me it's my fault because it's my other clothes' colors. I asked her why she didn't separate the colors and she told me that I didn't ask her to and that it's $3 more! This is ridiculous that they charge more, but also not letting me know before hand that they won't be separated is just unacceptable! Won't be doing my laundry here anymore! read more

You set the front-loaders on "HOT", but only ICE COLD goes in. They cheat us to save on the gas bill. You can check for yourself: Just stick your finger in the soap compartment and feel the water going in. While I was stuck there waiting for that load of "hot" to finish so I could go elsewhere, I decided to mention the problem to several of the other customers. The woman working there got very angry, and got abusive with me. Maybe if they stopped cheating people they wouldn't have to try to silence unhappy customers. If you want HOT that's actually HOT then go to Laundromax on Somerville ave, on the same side as the car wash. (Several of the nearby laundries also cheat on the water.) read more

I had been doing laundry at the laundromat right across from my house for 2 years because it was convenient. I never even explored any other laundromats until a few weeks ago when my usual laundromat was inconveniently closed. But, conveniently for me, that led me to discover Beacon Street Laundromat! This place is a short drive from my house, but it is definitely worth it! I've been coming here for just over a month now and it's been great. Not only is it cheaper than the place I was using before, but the atmosphere is great and everything is very clean. They keep fans running so it stays cool. There is free WiFi internet, a small table to work with laptops and two comfortable leather chairs as well. There is also a nice coffee shop right next door that has awesome iced coffee! If you're in the area then this place is a no-brainer. However, even if you have to drive a bit to get here I would still definitely recommend checking it out! read more
