I was in Tampa for a conference this week and stayed at the Marriott across the street from the convention center. My colleague and I decided to walk next door to the JW to enjoy a little happy hour at their rooftop bar. Beacon is a stunning experience and everything you want out of a rooftop lounge. Glorious views of the city, comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, a beautifully designed bar, and delicious food + drinks. We just wanted to grab a few light bites and cocktails before dinner. I got a crisp Bombay Sapphire dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives which was perfection. We also got the deviled eggs and the raw oysters to share. We were both pleasantly surprised by the unique flavor profile of the oysters. They were topped with a basil slushie ice and limoncello pearls (like mini boba). It was unlike anything I've ever had, but they were amazing and refreshing. The perfect summer oyster. I only wish there were more of them! The deviled eggs were topped with pickled veggies and were also very tasty. Portions are small and prices are high (as with most luxury experiences these days), but we went mostly for the ambiance and views which exceeded my expectations. This was our first time at The Beacon, and we were seriously impressed. The space is absolutely beautiful, and the views are stunning. One of my favorite things was that the price included unlimited tea and food selections. We could order as many of the fare as we wanted and try every tea that caught our eye without feeling rushed or limited. Our waitress, Ellie, was phenomenal. She was engaging, knowledgeable, fun, and genuinely elevated the entire experience. It was a gorgeous summer day in Florida, and while we skipped the outdoor seating (because any true Tampanian knows better than to sit outside in the middle of July ), our table inside still had incredible views. Everything was beautifully presented, the tea was delicious, and the atmosphere was just as impressive as the food. I highly recommend The Beacon and can't wait to go back. read more

We had a Friday night reservation which just so happened to be the same night as a country concert making parking exceptionally challenging but once we managed to make it in our experience was lovely We ordered two drinks off the menu and the raw oysters as well as two other drinks, a Paloma and Moscow mule, the drinks were average but tasty and the oysters were not our favorite. The basil ice was very overpowering and if you aren't the biggest oyster fan they might have been fine but we felt it really took away from the actual oyster which we actually love, would not get again. The view is definitely the star of the show and both outside and inside have such artistic seating areas and perfect photo opportunities, we would come back for some pics and one drink but anything else doesn't seem worth it to us. read more

Okay, WOW- genuinely my favorite oysters I've ever had. Can't say for a fact that the oysters themselves are the best oysters I've ever had, but these were so special. The basil ice and the lemon pearls give you such a unique tasting experience. I was a little concerned looking at them and they are so fragrant with basil, but I was truly so pleasantly surprised. This is definitely one to check out. Reservations are a must though. We had reservations for 4 and a guest in front was trying to get in but they said it would be hours before they had a spot. I would also recommend dressing up for this spot. Everyone was dressed very nicely. The views were amazing and service was delightful. The drink menu is a little odd and none of us tried anything on it aside from the espresso martini because the combinations were too interesting to try on a $20 cocktail. The smoked old fashioned was very good I got mine with Basil Hayden. We ordered Chicharrón for the table and although it was my first time I'm sure it was spot on. Beautiful bar on the 27th floor of the JW Marriott downtown. You can valet and get your ticket validated at the hostess stand for complimentary or discounted rate depending on the night. The Beacon is located at the JW Marriott hotel on Channelside. It's at a great location. They offer complimentary valet parking for 2 hours and then $30 after that -- make sure to get it validated. Beacon is super cute in the inside and out. Of course those Tampa views are amazing and it wasn't too crowded -- we booked reservation so we were seated right away. There is bar seating that I assume is first come first serve. It's a very intimate spot, so I also wouldn't advise too big of a group coming here -- it is NOT a club, there is no dancing lol. While the music was not my speed, is was still a nice vibe. The service was really nice. We had 2 or 3 people come check on us which I appreciated as everyone was pretty busy it was nice to have multiple people making sure we were good. The food menu is very sparse so don't come here to get full -- it's more of finger foods and lite bites. NOT dinner. They have a full alcohol menu. The food menu is primarily why I gave it 4 stars, but I would come again for a cocktail and to mingle perhaps. The Buns were flavorful. I was a big fan of the texture of the meat. Something about it was too soft, but it was flavorful. This would likely be what I would recommend to get though lol. The Mediterranean pizza was OK, just different. The dumplings were also decent. The ticket/tab can surely climb quickly when you're having a good time, so do with that what you will. read more

Beacon at the Marriott in Tampa is a stunning rooftop experience. The ambience is unmatched, we happened to catch the sunset and it was absolutely beautiful. The gyoza was good and the drinks were creative and delicious. I ordered the General Tso cocktail and it was incredibly tasty. The vibe up there is everything you want from a rooftop bar. Now the not so great part. The charcuterie board at $50 was a letdown for what you actually get. Cheese, almonds and cranberries. For that price point it should be a full spread. But the biggest issue was the service. Our server Rachel C made the decision to cut our entire party of seven off and we were completely blindsided. We were respectful, composed and had been there for about four hours ordering food and drinks responsibly, three drinks each. Our bill exceeded $800. There was no broken glass, no disrespect, no incident of any kind. The moment we asked to validate our valet pass we were suddenly cut off. When we questioned it Rachel confirmed it was her call. Cutting off a composed, respectful, high spending table with no justifiable reason is incredibly rude and frankly bad business. The rooftop itself is worth visiting but the service experience left a bad taste that is hard to overlook read more

I wrapped up an informal walking tour of Ybor with two friends by hopping on the free TECO trolley and riding over to Beacon, finishing the night at the rooftop bar. It was the perfect finale to an evening of food and drink, with a tremendous view and a beautifully made cocktail. Even on a Thursday night there was still space, and we were seated at an excellent table right by the railing. Benergy was our server and he was outstanding. He struck the right balance of attentiveness and easy confidence, offering thoughtful recommendations that showed he really knows this menu and has spent time with the drinks. His guidance helped us land on exactly the right choices to close out the evening. I ordered a mezcal cocktail that was delicious, strong, and wonderfully balanced. I couldn't tell you what it was called, but I did manage to get a picture before settling in with it. Beacon is a true pleasure on a clear night. Sunset would have been ideal, but in January the sun is long gone by the time you arrive, leaving the Tampa skyline glowing like a constellation. It's a memorable way to end a night in Ybor. So I have given beacon a few tries and the drinks here continue to disappoint me. The views are unmatched though so last night we decided to stop in for dessert and a drink. The espresso martini was bitter and I seen a few of these go back after I sent mine back, the waitress said it was a bad batch. Not sure why this is a batch drink when it should be made to order but anyways it's not the first time that the drinks were terrible here. The desert options were ok and we opted for the cannoli this wasn't bad but not overly impressed with it. Overall I gave two stars mainly for the view and nothing else. read more

We were here a few weeks ago with a friend of mine, and we absolutely loved it!!!! We made a reservation for 5pm on the rooftop deck, the view was so beautiful and peaceful. Our waiter Benergy, made sure we had the most amazing experience. He made some great recommendations which we loved, we also made some great connections with the one of the staff members from the downstairs bar who also made great drink recommendations, even for the non alcoholic option. I've been here a few times now and the views never get old. It's one of those spots you can count on for a really good atmosphere every time, especially around sunset. The drinks are consistently great, which is honestly what keeps me coming back. The food is a little hit or miss. Some things are solid, others are just okay, so I wouldn't go in expecting an amazing meal. That said, it's a perfect before or after dinner spot. Beacon can be truly amazing BUT apparently not on a Friday or Saturday night when they have a club dj no one asked for ... we were having a girls night and we love music but not when it's so loud over the speakers we can't have a conversation. When inquired about staff just kinda shrugged it off like it's just what happens those nights .. I have been here on a non club night for a date with my husband and and the vibe was great I was looking forward to going back with friends. But unfortunately will think twice upon returning at least on club nights .. we didn't seem to be the only table bothered by this but maybe if beacons attendance dips on these nights they'll eventually realize why .. read more

This is on the short rotation of about 3 spots downtown where women fall in love with you. I highly recommend making a reservation on OpenTable. Then, make sure you ask for a table where you can sit next to one another, and not across. After that, load up on some drinks. And finally, get some pics outside. The staff here always acts like they don't know who you are and are happy to see you even if you brought a date here, Thursday, different date Friday, different date Saturday, and a new girl on Sunday. Experienced the afternoon tea they have on Saturdays from 10am-2pm. The view is spectacular! Seating outside or inside available which we sat outside. The weather was perfect although it did get rather hot as the day went on. You're given a "birdcage" which is a 3 tier display of options including an array of sandwiches - egg salad, cucumber, chicken salad, ham and cheese along with stuffed mini bell peppers. Desserts are located inside along the bar. Tea options include hot or iced and they serve Tea Forte brand. The mango peach was divine! Great experience! Be warned that they do charge a service fee on top of your bill of $11. We didn't know this so our experience ended up costing us $69! Definitely the vibes are amazing here. Visited last Thursday at it was definitely busy and the service wasn't as prompt as I would have liked. We tried the spicy chili oil dumplings, potato with caviar and the scallops. The spicy chili oil dumplings lacked spicy chili taste, and the potatoes were okay but needed more flavor or sauce in my opinion. Loved this place for a bougie lounge afternoon. The ambience and decor is chill and trendy. During the better weather days, sit outside - the sunset view is amazing and unobstructed on the rooftop. Not to mention, this is the tallest rooftop in Tampa Bay, looking out you can see st pete, davis island, clearwater, etc. The food is pricey, shareable plates. I suggest ordering multiple plates and splitting with your party, especially if you want to try multiple things. I didn't do that this time and spent almost $90 on two small plates (pomme pave and scallops) and two drinks (zalamero). The service was very kind and patient when deciding our order. The even considered my reservation note of getting the best seat for the sunset, which I appreciate so much as I was bringing a friend here for the first time. Parking is usually complimentary for three hours, except on game nights. Best dessert option is the lemon tiramisu, sounds a little strange initially but you want regret it. I absolutely loved the vibe of this bar. There is indoor lounge seating with a beautiful bar. There is also ample seating outside if you're looking to catch the downtown Tampa views. This is located across the street from the JW Marriott and Amalia. Parking is typically free for three hours however, if there are any events going on, the price is discounted by 50% for parking. I highly suggest making a reservation in advance before coming here if you try and walk in on a Friday or Saturday, you absolutely will not be seated without a reservation. As far as the food goes, they do not have main entrées. This is a tapas and drinks type of place. They have small bites in an array of drinks. Hands down the best rooftop bar in Tampa and the best place to take out of town guests to really show off the city! I have been here way too much over the past couple of months but I don't regret a single stop. Those pork belly bao buns are out of this world. And the among the clouds drink puts you on ~ cloud 9~, yes, pun intended. The food and beverage service is incredible. The only thing I'll knock is their valet service which I have previously complained about on the Anchor and Brine restaurant page, as well, as they are both under the Marriott umbrella. Those valet workers can be really rude and off putting sometimes, which is just so strange. However, luckily, the last time I was there, I was able to take advantage of 3 hours complimentary valet without any sass which was nice! On my last visit, we tried out "spill the tea", their Saturdays only special tea menu. I included pictures of the menu with prices which I couldn't find anywhere online, so you're welcome! Oh my gosh, it was the best "high tea" in town. Move over, Oxford exchange, Beacon is giving you a run for your money (literally)! I was shocked and pleasantly surprised that you get "unlimited bites" with the spill the tea experience. So, if we liked one of the little tea sandwiches, we could just ask for more! It was awesome!! This is a great place to end your night. Definitely make a reservation. We tried to go once before and were told they were only accepting people who had a reservation. This time I didn't make that mistake and I made a reservation. It was one of the rare nights in Tampa that it was freezing, but there were still people sitting outside, which shocked me. There are a couple large rooms inside so we sat inside. The view is spectacular. We did go outside to take pictures, but mainly stayed inside. I got an espresso martini and it was delicious. It wasn't too sweet, exactly how I like it. My husband got an old fashioned and really enjoyed it as well. Our server was fantastic. She is an art student and even offered to take our picture outside. Since we were staying at the Marriott we got a $30 food and beverage credit with our stay that we could use here. That was actually a nice perk that I didn't know we had until we got to the hotel. Normally you don't get anything with paying the resort fee, but here it was actually worth something. We had birthday reservations for 7:20 to experience the sunset for my birthday. We were thrilled to try this restaurant. We had a 16 year old and a 9 year old with us for the dinner. When we got there we were turned away because no one under 21 is allowed after 7pm. Beacon is a beautiful and highest rooftop bar (27th floor) in Tampa. It is inside of the JW Marriot hotel NOT the Marriort which is across from each other. I've been here few times and I would say I wouldn't come here to dine. It is more drinks and apps type of vibe. They do have great cocktails and the food is a bit expensive for the amount of portion you get. The service is good depends on what time of the day it is. The first few times were fine but recently when I went to get drinks before dinner, it took 35 mins for our second drink to come because they were understaff. The server apologized and mentioned that which wasn't her fault but they should really hire more bartenders especially on the weekends when its buiser. It was nice of the server to compt our 30min wait drinks and provide us with free dessert. If it wasn't for that, I would've given them 3 stars. Hopefully they hire more barntnders so other customers don't have to deal with that experience. read more

Visited Beacon tonight at the roof of the JW Marriott Tampa Waterside. We did make reservations because we heard it can get busy. You check in with a host in the lobby and take a separate elevator directly up. They do have a dress code so make sure to look out for that, although a member of our party was told to take off his hat,several guests were seen with hats on in the venue. Valet parking is complimentary for 3 hours if you validate your ticket which is nice! As far as drinks, they were great! We had a couple rounds. I want to point out though, we did the "table side old fashioned experience" but it was quite disappointing.... It's $35 for an old fashioned with Brugal Rum ($35 for the whole bottle in the store). You can pick your syrup and bitters. The server then pushes a themed cart to your table (which was cool looking). But the big disappointment comes when they just pour your drink over ice and hand it to you. The drink was premade at the bar and the server literally just pours it. How is that an experience worth basically double the price of the normal old fashioned on the menu? I was expecting it to be made on the cart in front of us, now THAT would be a "table side experience". If you opt for smoke they will smoke it at the table, that's it. Somehow, smoke is worth a $5 upcharge? Just make it at the table and include the smoke for $30. I would recommend to just order the old fashioned off the menu and save $12. Espresso martini was good, but wasn't very cold. Server asked if we wanted Bailey's in it which we agreed but it was never mentioned that was an upcharge. Food we ordered the 5 cheeses which was a GREAT portion. I was very impressed. Ahi tuna was great, but a couple bites were extremely spicy and others not at all. Bao buns good. Flatbread was great!! For dessert I recommend the dulce caramel which has delicious banana in it, but I would pass on the chocolate Tartine. Wanted to try something new, but did not really love the bread for dessert idea! Service was excellent I really enjoyed our server. The bar itself was so cool and really themed well. The views were amazing. Come around 530 or whenever sunset may be that time of year. Met some friends for Friday night fun. If there is not an event at Amalie Arena you can get 3 hour validation for valet from your server. Our server Sophia was great. We sat outside and there was an ok breeze. They just have light bites. We shared the octopus carpaccio (so good!), ahi poke, brussel sprouts, kfc bao buns and the salumi flatbread. You are paying JW rooftop bar prices. Nice cocktail list along with beer and wine. Great people watching. There is a special elevator off the lobby. Reservations recommended and dress code.
