I was a little concerned with the outer design of the restaurant, but those concerns were washed away quickly after I got inside. The service was great. My son and I were very quickly seated without wait. Many options for drinks were listed and they came out also very quickly. The coffee was alright not the best, not the worst. The orange juice was pretty typical cart from grocery store brand. I ordered an omelette that was cooked well and had a very plentiful filling and a side of toast and potatoes. This was the absolute WORST restaurant experience I've suffered through in years! Our Easter dinner was completely ruined by a pathetic excuse of a waitress named Mary, and an inconsiderate Manager that did NOTHING to resolve the problems (plural). I'll start with the end result.. My elderly mother never got her food. It reached the point we had to say forget it. Not only was the order that was brought wrong and for another table, but the replacement order was NEVER put in to be made! She got NOTHING except a plate of broccoli and squash that wasn't even part of our order, a bad salad she couldn't eat, and I kept my potato salad for her to have when I got her home. The waitress did not reorder he correct food. She just left her sitting there. I had to ask twice for just a lemon wedge, then go up to the take out counter to get one myself. Another waitresses had to be asked to find out if Mom's order had even been placed, when I was now halfway through my meal. It wasn't. Yet a third waitress had to be asked to bring coffee, and the bus girl had to bring the boxes for my leftovers and the incorrect side dishes, and relay that we hadn't even been offered he desert that can with the dinners that were ordered. Zero resolution was offered by the Manager, who just ran into the kitchen and hid. Pathetic! In total, it took three servers and a bus girl to get ANYTHING, and Mom still WAS NOT FED HER DINNER. Now on to additional problems... My mother just had a pacemaker put in two weeks ago. For all I know, this holiday meal Smiley's Diner ruined might be the last one she and I will have together. The stress and frustration is the last thing she needed, let alone to not be given her food. Even after complaint, and further wait, the order had not yet even been started. Was it just us? No. The elderly couple behind us were having the same issues of wrong food and bad service from Mary. I observed the man across from us being served food that was apparently also incorrect, because he then stood behind the waitress as she reprocessed his order at the computer. The fault was clearly incompetence. Oh but there's still more.... Upon entering, the handicapped ramp from the parking lot to sidewalk, and the entrance itself, was blocked by a flower vendor. That fault is with incompetent management. The blockage caused my mother, who is not supposed to be going up steps, to have to step up the curb around the vendors, as also had the old woman with a walker that came in at the same time, and was seated behind us with the man that got the wrong fish. The vendors should have been instructed to set up to the other side of the ramp, so as to not block handicapped/elderly access to the ramp and doors. I'll be looking into whether that's a Disability Act violation. But on to access violations. I went to the men's room and found the only stall locked from the inside. I had to use my key fob to turn the slot on the knob to gain entry to a dirty toilet. This entire ordeal lasted approximately an hour and half, give or take. We arrived around 3:30 (maybe a bit earlier) and were home at 5:45 (thereabouts) and live only just down the road. All that time, and my Mom never got her meal. We had to accept just having the order removed from the bill, still wait to get a box for my half eaten food (I saved half for Mom, but because of her dietary restrictions, she couldn't eat it). So I went with half a dinner. Her (possibly last ever) Easter dinner ended up being someone else's broccoli, and my potatoes, all thanks to total incompetency, and disregard by management. We did not even get so much as a "Sorry for the inconvenience". The only positive remarks I have are to to the young waitress and bus girl that brought my coffee, the leftover boxes for my food, and tried to cover the slack, and to the additional waitress of the next table that acknowledged my mother. It should not take four people to do one person's job(actually five if you count the one that gave me the lemon I went up and got on my own). I'm not sure who brought the silverware. When those incorrect orders were brought we still didn't have any, and I wasn't at the table. Back when I ran a restaurant, silverware and napkins weren't something you had to ask for. Pathetic! Just stay away from that place! They clearly no longer have their act together. read more

Ambiance was a mess! Little children running around at 11:30pm (owners children very young 4 & 6) unsupervised almost ran into waitress carrying a tray of hot food??? Elderly Lady (​with dementia or Alzheimer's) strolling around talking incoherently with dinner.guest. The food took way too much long to get to table. One dish a had a room temperature item,a cold item and a warm item - all should have been served hot! My husband's dish just did not taste right ...he ordered Biscuits & Gravy. I tried Smiley's for the first time and I can honestly say (being a born and raised jersey girl so I know my diners) this is a really good diner! The menu is huge (I've attached pictures), the restaurant is clean, and the staff is friendly. Also the meals are large and very tasty! We got the nachos as an appetizer and I'd definitely recommend them. For my meal I got the chicken cordon bleu and it was delicious. It was also big enough two (I took half home). My meal came with a small dessert item so I chose rice pudding. I am a big fan of a good rice pudding and while this is not as good as my dad's (mostly just due to consistency) this rice pudding is very tasty and I'd order it again. I ordered 2 eggs over medium, home fries, white toast and sausage. Waitress asked if I wanted onions or peppers with my home fries. Great suggestion, onions, please! I ordered a hamburger, onion rings, and French onion soup from Smiley's a few nights ago. My order came to $27. None of the things I asked for to be added to my burger were on the burger. The burger was still dry even though I asked for it to be cooked medium. The onion rings had no flavor of onion. I break the onion rings open to find that they were all made with what looked like that translucent part of the onion on the outside that we throw away. The French onion soup did not taste good at all. There was no crouton on top or cheese. Just a bowl of onions in a beef broth that was very distasteful. This will be my one and only order with them. I think they can benefit from condensing their menu and work on perfecting a smaller menus instead of just putting food out. We visited 2 weeks ago because RJs son likes the diner in Towson and we thought maybe he would like this. It was ok. Staff was friendly. It's in an old Pizza Hut and still looks like old Pizza Hut. The food is decent and there are some good options if you crave something diner-Esque. It's not bad, its not amazing either. it's just ok. We had stuffed grape leave which RJ loves but they were just ok. I ordered a gyro with a Greek salad but it was really just a large lettuce salad. Went to breakfast here today and I was so please. Was greeted and seated immediately. Staff was pleasant and service was fast. Beware of what time you go because they get busy fast. Was only there an hour and by the time I was leaving there was line/wait. I couldn't decide between the waffle breakfast and the French toast but I went ahead with my French toast. Order was place and food came in a timely manner. Everything steaming hot and fresh. Plenty of food and I do mean PLENTY. I have food for breakfast tomorrow. Prices were great. Less than $40 for 2 Meals, drinks,and extra sides. (I promise I didn't eat it all by myself, lol ) I definitely enjoyed the atmosphere here and my experience. On a recent trip from CT to DC I wandered off course after crossing the Delaware Memorial Bridge to find a quick bite to eat. I noticed a diner and saw its large parking lot was totally full with two cars circling. I decided to try it and was really impressed with great service and wonderful food, a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant, in my case. Bottom line I am very unlikely to return to this restaurant and give them a second shot. I do not recommend for breakfast. Definitely do not get the coffee. I really don't like to give this low of a review to establishments. But in this particular case I think they earned it. Service was extremely slow... The food came out wrong and overall it was just not a good experience. Maybe it was a really off day... Maybe this was a one off experience... Nonetheless I was really unhappy. I ordered the eggs Benedict it's some thing I actually ordered a lot of restaurants for breakfast because it's a relatively consistent thing that you can change a little bit to the restaurant. In this particular case the Benedict itself was extremely thick and did not taste good. I'm not sure if it had sat in the pot too long if they overcooked it or if there's some sort of weird original recipe they just didn't agree with me. The pancake was what I would consider to be some thing along the lines of store-bought mix. I really like pancakes but in this particular case I thought that it was some thing that I could just make it home and there was really no reason to be out. The server got her order wrong a couple times even after we tried to explain to her what we were ordering she still came out with the wrong items. Now for the topper... The real reason why this place only received a One star review instead of two... The coffee it was absolutely terrible. At first I thought that maybe it was because the 1st cup wasn't fresh. So the next time I asked if they could give bring me a fresh cut from a fresh pot. Unfortunately it tasted as though they had dumped fresh grind into old grinds. Here's the thing when you go into a diner you expect pretty basic things decent food and good coffee with marginal service. I received none of those expectations. read more
