the work the installers was good the first day they were suppose to show up to start the job no one showed up I had to call only to find out they would not come out. the day they did start only one person cam out for the first part of day. each day they came out it was after 9:00. they order the wrong size window had to wait two weeks for that window. when I call they had more excuse and told me not to worry or be concern. i had to call everyday because of issue. most of time would have to leave a message and would wait days for a return call. I spoke with John L., initially. John was very knowledgeable and professional, but my wife and I decided it just wasn't in the budget to get the work done. Our cedar siding, only 6 years old, was faded, splintering, and even beginning to rot in some places. We loved Hardie Staggered Shake Siding, and ultimately, with the help of an amazing team, got it done within our budget. They did a fantastic job and our home looks new again. I used to sell Home Improvement products, which was instrumental in finely tuning my b.s. detector and this company didn't try to get over on me in any way. John is a true professional, Sharise was so helpful and went so far out of her way to assist in any and all requests, Mickey returned all of my calls with uncommon promptness and Andrea, you rock too, you made some decisions that thoroughly demonstrated that your heart is in it and you care about things that go far beyond just making the sale. Your integrity is uncommon in the field of Home Improvement and we totally appreciate all you've done! We have received compliments from everyone that laid eyes on our home and will undoubtedly receive more. DO NOT FOR ANY REASON HIRE BEAR! We had Bear replace two windows and a sliding door to begin making our home from the late 70s more functional (the windows wouldn't open) and more energy efficient (the glass let in a lot of heat). We were told that their windows were energy efficient and wouldn't let the heat or UV into our home. This was not the case. Every time it's sunny I feel that they upstairs sliding door still lets in a ton of heat. Since they kept telling us that they were going to be making custom windows and they would fit nicely I thought they would be tight. We have a home with wooden posts between the windows. I thought they would be removing the entire casing. They came in and hacked away at the wood, leaving the old casing and just popping in a window that they needed to use wood pieces to hold in place because they weren't even close to the correct size. I was horrified when they left. The wood they chipped out was exposed and when I told them to come back and fix it they did the worst patch job I've ever seen in my life. I wish I could post pictures. You would be horrified. Not only that, but I have young children and they left tons of screws, nails and woodchips everywhere (including our driveway where we could have easily punctured a tire). Needless to say, we did not have them back to do any further damage. I was furious. We hired Illinois Energy next and the installers were much better. They totally understood why we were so disappointed and angry. The sliding door they put downstairs made a huge difference in the amount of draft and heat was coming through. I feel horrible that I let BEAR put a marketing sign up in front of our home now. That was super annoying as well. Our windows are finally paid off and we just feel like it was almost an entire waste of money. The only benefit is that they now open and close. Too bad for us that they look worse than the originals and don't really seem to be energy efficient. I have never given another company 1 star. My windows were originally installed in Jan 2014 and I did submit a review on yelp before but it seemed to have disappeared. The owners of the company were terrible to work with once you signed the contract. They were yelling at me and demanding payment on a job that wasn't complete. The loan company advised me not to sign off until they had completely completed the job. One of the screens had a small rip/slice in it and I told the installer about it which they told me to contact the office. When I told him (Pete/Heath same person) the screen was replaced he began yelling at me again for the payment and accuse me of tearing/ripping the screen myself (now why would I do that when I want new windows in). The screens were part of the new windows and they happened to be the full screens for the double hung windows which I paid more money for. The manufacturer ended up getting involved and came out to my home to see what was happening with their windows and ended up ordering the screen which he advised would be no more than a week. Three additional weeks went by and finally someone showed up to install the screen with no notification. Thank god I was home. Lastly, I needed to have all my windows replaced in my home and I was doing this in small groups (5 windows at a time due to the expense). Since then I have found another company to work with and I have been moving forward with them since. I couldn't trust that Bear Home Improvement would satisfy the warranty and treat me appropriately. One last note, the installers were great to work with and knew what they were doing. read more

I will not be using them anymore. I recently purchased the first group of windows to be replaced in my home. They want to make the sale for sure and then they wanted all the money when the work was not completed. 2 screens from the newly installed windows needed to be replaced because one has a bad frame and the other was sliced. Pete, who I mostly dealt with from Bear Home Improvement became belligerent and rude, yelling at me on the phone because I wouldn't release the funds from the loan company. The loan company advised that if the work was not completed it would be hard for them to help me in anyway get it completed. As simple as ordering new screens, this dragged on for three weeks after installation. Bear Home constantly promised things they never delivered. They never called me to advise when the installation crew was going to be out or confirm the day. They promised they would have someone out at my home to remeasure these screens so they can be reordered and no one ever showed up. I tried reaching out to the owner, Andrea, she was just as non-responsive as Pete. I talked to her once about Pete's behavior and what needed to happen to complete the work at my home. After that, I only received emails from her as she was too busy in all day meetings as she stated in her emails. They always would say they would have someone out at my house and no one would ever show up. I was already in touch with the manufacture of the windows that Bear Home Improvements are selling/installing (btw Sunrise Windows are the best window replacements out there!!!). Sunrise's Territory Manager called me and talked with me about some of the issues I was having and then scheduled an appt with me to come out to my home to check out the windows and screens. They were awesome as they checked all the windows/screens that were replaced. 2 screens actually needed to be replaced. Sunrise ordered my screens, shipped them directly to Bear a week later for them to install. 5 days after Bear Home Improvements had my screens, they sent out their installers unscheduled and unannounced. They just appeared at my door, thank god i was home. I cant imagine if I wasn't home, I may still not have my screens and the job may still be undone. Anyway,thank god it's over. I have done my due diligence in finding a much better and more reputable company that distributes/installs Sunrise windows. Bear Home Improvements delivers empty promises, lacks customer service/satisfaction and DO NOT care about their customers. Their mission statement about their customers is not accurate at all. Lastly, I guess I have a warranty through them on the windows they installed. If its anything like I have experience already then there isn't a warranty. Buyer Beware!!!! read more

A few years ago, we went through Bear Home Improvements for our windows, and they were great! Then the phone calls started. We understand a "follow-up" call to see how things are going, but for the past two years, the company's constantly calling us to see if we need something else redone on our house. We've requested to have our number removed from their list over 20x, plus they call EVERY DAY!!!!!!!! I have a daily record of their calls, and it's extremely uncomfortable with the stalker-like nature of their calls. What company calls every day????? I had very terrible experience with Bear Home Improvement (BHI). Initially I was impressed with their polyacrylic plastic material for shower room and installation. Their quote is $6800 (only shower room), quite expensive, but they claim it is also based on premium service. The reality is, as soon as they got the deposit check, which is total $2050, they delayed every possible step which was being promised before signing agreement. Because of delay, I had to make quite a few phone calls, from phone conversations, BHI simply show a messy system in managing their contractors, either multiple contractors called for asking of doing the same task, either no one called at all. After all my effort, BHI finally agreed to send the contractor over to install shower room in a week, but contractor cancelled installation in a very short notice. Through the frustrated process in dealing with BHI, I neither had confidence nor trust in their product and delivery, so I decided terminating the working relationship with them (this just happened in January 2016). Their reply was "We are sorry for delayed service in several places, but if you don't want to continue working with us, we keep the deposit". They put themselves in absolute win-win situation: if you don't continue work with them, they keep the deposit, if you continue work with them they can grab more money from you. They put customers in a position that consumers can not defend their right. That is absolutely WRONG!! This case will be further pursued until some justification is made, because from the length of 3 month working with them, we receives many agonies, and did get any tangible material, not even a piece of nail from them, yet, they keep the entire $2050 deposit. So WARNING HERE, be very cautious when you sign contract with BEAR HOME IMPROVMENTS. They act like a BEAR when they want to get money from your pocket. read more
