Refreshing Renovations (PO BOX 7524, Romeoville, IL 60446 USA) completed our job to replace a bathroom shower door on or about September 19, 2025. Like many such bathroom-plumbing works, this is a complicated installation that can easily go wrong a hundred ways. The RR people planned it and did it at one go. Done right! Our compliments on the excellent work by the technician who visited us to install the shower door (apologies - I did not write down his name). He did an overall fantastic job, start to finish, earning a 100/100. He is competent, professional, and courteous. He answered all our questions patiently and stayed focused on the job without rushing it. Notably, the final cleanup was so thorough! Earlier, the person who visited us for the estimation and measurement was equally good- very knowledgeable! The office personnel who handle the scheduling are very responsive and understanding of our (customers') changing needs and priorities. Chris, I am not going argue more. I don't plan on hiring you and that was almost 4 years ago when we posted our review. You were not on site when Bryan was painting so you have no way to know if he added water or not. My contractor that fixed Bryan's horrible job, told me the paint you used was cut with water. Do not go with these guys. They charge by the hour. But an awning at Home Depot and hire them to install it. Very miss leading with estimate and how long its going to take. Also after down payment of work, there was radio silence as to when to schedule the work. I had to reach out to RR multiple times to schedule the work. Another note, it took 4 hours to do the job for two people. That is 2 people a and total billing hours were 8 hours. It should only take 2 hours to finish the job with two people. They spent two hour putting the awning together. One guy was watching while other guy was putting it together. I wish they told me about this, because I could have put the awning together myself before they came out. Another note, one guy went out to buy something, he took about 30-45 minutes to Home Depot. Given that why would the other guy who was sitting around was billing for the hour, not working. The hourly rate is very miss leading. I would never hire these guys, they will charge alot of money. They told me they gave me a break but thats not true. Very disappointed for how much it cost to install the awning. It cost over $1000 for this work. read more

This is after 2 weeks of waiting... "Im sorry. I can't do a 30min window. Everyone gets a 3hr window because i have entire days worth if estimates. I don't know how long each will take, nor can i predict traffic. If i gave you a 30min window, I'd almost certainly miss it. If you can't agree to a 3hr window like kelly offered multiple times, and like hundreds, if not thousands, of people have agreed to over the years, i don't think we can do business. We got a cookie cutter house from builders and left the entire house as a blank canvas to personalize on our own. Jokes on us, we don't have the time or talent to do home improvement projects! Fortunately for us, we did our homework and found Refreshing Renovations, located in our own town( support small businesses!) based on a word of mouth recommendation. Loved that while there were only a few reviews, they were all positive. We've heard horror stories from friends that home improvement projects can be expensive, riddled with lack of communication, and poor execution. Our experience from beginning to end was smooth and transparent, from the first phone call, to scheduling, bid process, design & planning, and the big day( renovation day). Pricing was affordable and well within our budget and turnaround time was fast! Refreshing Renovations turned our cookie cutter kitchen to a beautiful live in homely space. Only reason it's not a 5 is that there were some frustrations on communication throughout the project; in the end, though, I would recommend Chris and the Refreshing Renovations team given you are better at driving the communication than I am. If you know exactly what you want to the last detail and how to explain it, you'll get it at what I think is a fair price. Chris and I had a lengthy discussion after the project, and he had already set in motion some things with the business that I think will bring them up to 5-Star, hands down. I had a pretty unique project, having a bar installed in my basement. Chris came over to check it out and give me a quote. I had an extremely vague idea of what I wanted, so Chris had to work with what he had in that respect. Throughout the project, more and more details were hashed out in various formats (email, in person, phone, text, etc.), which led to some things being missed or misunderstood. Chris and his team were more then flexible, though, and the guys working in the house were as warm and friendly with me as could be. Refreshing Renovations replaced the sub-floor on my covered front porch and installed tongue & groove composite decking. The front porch is over a crawlspace that is accessible from my basement. Everything looks great thanks to the work of Pete who installed the deck. But 20 months after it was installed, I noticed that water was getting into the crawlspace when it rains. I rarely go into the crawlspace, so I did not notice the water until then. I contacted Chris from Refreshing Renovations and he said that the work was beyond the 1 year warranty and there was nothing he was obligated to do to address the issue. Though he did offer to come out and provide a new quote to fix the issues that he caused when he installed the deck! I asked Chris if he installed flashing between the porch deck and the house when he replaced the sub-floor because I could see a gap from inside the crawlspace and that is where the water was coming in. I never had water in the crawlspace before Refreshing Renovations updated the deck. Over a few exchanges, Chris acknowledged in email that he did not think of adding flashing to the deck. He even said in his email that "There was no mention of flashing at the time though since, as I said, where it would go has 10' of overhang preventing it from getting wet so it was not thought of." Chris never thought that a client would want to power wash the deck or that rain can get into a porch even with an overhang? Do you really trust this guy to design your project and think through contingencies?! My advice to anyone looking into Refreshing Renovations - There are a lot of good contractors out there, why go with one that (1) openly acknowledges that he didn't think to add in an element that would improve the project and (2), once he acknowledges this, he does not take the proper steps to correct it? So now I have a deck that will last 30+ years but I get water in the crawlspace each time it rains and I never had the issue before Refreshing Renovations did the work. I will not be able to ever power wash the deck because that will also lead to water in the crawlspace. The condition of my home is now worse after Refreshing Renovations did their work, and they are refusing to fix their mistakes. If you look through the reviews, you will see some nice comments. But you should partner with a contractor that will deliver good work AND stands behind their work if they acknowledge that the project could have been built in a way that would have helped reduce the chances for issues like this. Do yourself a favor -- skip Refreshing Renovations and find another contractor that has real integrity. read more

Attempted to charge me even though the guys that he sent refused to do the job! Just ridiculous!

So glad my friend called me up and told me to give these guys a shot! I had some water damage in my basement and needed dry walling and painting done to repair the damage and clean-up and take away the old stuff. Considering I had NO clue where to even begin it helped me out a lot that Chris was able to EXPLAIN what was going to happen and help me to understand. If you've ever walked into your kitchen late at night to find a rat scurrying across the floor, then you know the nightmare that my family has been fighting against for the past three months. We began by hiring rodent control experts. While these guys might be good at trapping rats, they neither know nor really care about how the rats might get into your house. Finding a fresh dead rat every couple days is only slightly less disturbing than seeing a living one. I spent hours and hundreds of dollars trying to plug potential holes around the perimeter of my house, but couldn't seem to block the rats from entering. Chris from Refeshing Renovation came to the house yesterday to offer a free estimate. Within seconds of being in my basement, Chris located a hole in the foundation that had completely alluded me. The hole had all the clear markings of a rat borrow. Chris didn't stop there, however. He slowly and methodically worked his way around both the inside and outside of my house. With the eye of a real professional, he found a second borrow in the cracked foundation of my neighbor's back porch, concluding that the rats were borrowing under the gangway up into my foundation. Needless to say, I would have never figured this out on my own. Now here is the most incredible part of this experience. Chris noticed that I had been using ready mix concrete to try to patch holes. He explained to me how to water down the concrete mixture and pour it into the borrows to make sure they were filled in deep. He then gave me a few business cards, we shook hands and he left without charging me a dime. He only asked that we think of him for future work. Hired Refreshing Renovations for pest exclusion in my home. I had the occasional mouse that would visit my home once or twice a year. I have hired multiple exterminators but all they did were throw baits and traps out for $150 with no results. Got tired of setting out traps whenever one would show up, so I found Refreshing Renovations to patch up the house. Chris did a thorough search of the interior and exterior of my house to identify where mice could possibly get in. Chris was informative and professional, and spent alot of time explaining things to me. A month after the work was done, I thought I heard some squeaking come from the walls in the kitchen, possibly a mouse but never saw any evidence of it. Called Chris right away and he came back out that weekend to check things out. He found a small hole near the door, patched it up and didn't even charge me extra for the work. I've had Orkin Pest Control at my house for at least 2 years to control a mice issue. Countless times I told them they need to find out how they are getting in but in hindsight, how could they make $$ if they did that? I finally called a pest control firm called Men In Black who agreed that something should be done and referred me to a contracting firm called Refreshing Renovations. They came out and walked around the house and in 30 minutes found this and a few other possibilities! For a SMALL fee they fixed the issue and we have been mouse free for almost 2 weeks now. A new concrete front stoop created a large space between my north facing front door threshold and the storm door which gave bugs a way inside during the summer and allowed cold air to blow in against the front door in the winter, defeating the storm door's purpose. Chris's proposal for repairing the draft was right on spot. Brian and Zak, who did the work, extended the threshold, answering my 100 questions along the way. Now looking at the threshold, there is no gap and with the colder weather, the inside front door is much warmer. Also had them replace an old drapery rod that was loose on the wall with a new one I had purchased about a year ago and they did a great job. I can now hang the heavier winter drapes and it looks much nicer now. Definitely would recommend Refreshing Renovations and will keep them in mind for any future needs around the house! read more

We can't grade them on their services, however have been the most responsive company to return communication regarding projects we need completed. It's the end of August, and the first appointment available for an estimate was the end of September. They are booked for work until the end of October. I may just hire on this alone. Who is THAT busy unless they do great work? They have a great office manager Diana who is VERY responsive. The other 4 companies I contacted, only 2 responded, and two never called back. Chris and his team at Refreshing Renovations tackled a very difficult "rat exclusion" problem outside our Chicago condo, which included installing exterior rat barriers and adding a foundation below our HVAC units. We had a major problem, and the property did not lend itself to an easy situation. The team worked overtime to finish the work - including close to midnight on a Sunday - and maintained a positive attitude. I own a 2-flat in the City and hired Refreshing Renovations on two different occasions in 2015 for pest exclusions--once in January and once again in the spring after the ground had thawed so they could do the rest of the work. Chris was one of the best contractors I've ever seen! One of the things he did was install a new basement door for me with an outer metal exterior liner because my basement floods once or twice a summer when the bad rains come and the city shuts the (sewer) valves. One of the rains was so bad that it had damaged the door frame where he put in the new door. Chris came back a month or two later (after the 2nd project was done) but soon after the flood and fixed the door frame totally for free! Most contractors would've given a little grief about something small like this or charged me extra. He seemed very knowledgeable and experienced about pest exclusion.
