I called Paddles and Pedals in the morning to inquire about a same day bike rental. They confirmed they had availability and we made our way over. Our party was one adult and two kids. The bikes they brought out were the perfect size for each person in our group and they provided helmets. It was about $16/hour for the bike rental. Upon arrival we were helped immediately. From arrival, to waiver signature, and getting on bikes took about 10 minutes. You will need an ID as they hold it until you return with payment. The location is on the north shore and it is easy to find. There was plenty of parking and it's right next to an RV Park with a little liquor store in case you forgot anything. If you didn't bring a drink, pick one up as I did not see any water fountains or bottle fillers on the bike path. The paved bike path is right across the road and it is easy enough. There are some hills, not bad, but not completely flat. You can always walk the bike up if needed. You can ride all the way down the north shore which is mostly undeveloped and absolutely beautiful. We packed a backpack with sandwiches and stopped along the way at picnic tables to eat lunch. Keep in mind for you, your kids, and pets, that it's a little harder to exercise/breathe at high altitudes. There are a few benches to stop and rest as well as a few paths down to the lake. The trail is shared with other bikers, walkers, runners, and a few folks walking dogs. Everyone we encountered was respectful. I knocked one star down because I thought $100+ for one adult and two kid bike rentals for less than 2 hours was a little steep. However, we loved our time on the bike path. The exercise was great and the north shore is beautiful. The trees and lake took our breath away. We will return soon. read more

The thing I liked the most about paddles and pedals is that the kayaks are already in the water. I rented a three person kayak (which I didn't even know they made) for myself and my two young daughters. We just walked to the end of the dock and they helped us in. Also it's a little more secluded so we didn't feel like we were going to run into anyone while still enjoying the beauty of the lake. read more

My sister got it into her head that we had to kayak while at Big Bear; unfortunately since we were there during fall hours, most shops closed fairly early - we had to rearrange our plans and look for a spot that would be open on the Sunday afternoon before we headed home. The reviews for this place seemed promising, so we made a call and headed over to Paddles and Pedals. Hours are fairly limited when it's not busy season, so I highly recommend you call before going - just in case of any emergencies. This seems to be a small family business with a small shack outside of a private RV lot. It wasn't too hard to find as there was clear signage posted outside. Prices are affordable as well - kayaking starts at $20 for 1 hour while tandem kayaking is $35 for 1 hour. They also have bicycles, tandem bikes, trailers and tag-alongs, as well as stand-up paddleboards. You tell them what you want to rent, leave your ID, and you're on your way. We had to drive down the path towards the lake - which was a little confusing, especially since we were the only ones out there that day. There's two decks - one that's private, and one that belongs to Paddles and Pedals. The workers helping us were low-key and basically helped us with the kayak and vests before leaving us to do our thing. There wasn't anybody on the lake except for some other boats, but the currents were pretty choppy! Had a good time trying to navigate the kayak around the lake before returning under the hour. If you go over the hour markers, I think you're responsible for paying the difference, so we made sure to return in time. Since there wasn't much business, the workers had returned to their car to relax and take a nap before heading back to the deck when the hour was up. I think if an emergency did occur, we could yell aloud and they'd hear us. We were able to snag the Yelp discount and paid in cash, which saved us from being charged some extra fees. Overall, a pretty fun experience that lets you experience nature and something you can't do every day! Would recommend renting from Paddles and Pedals if you're looking for a kayak/paddleboard place. read more

We came to Big Bear Lake in mid-September for a weekend getaway, and the weather was beautiful! So it was the perfect opportunity to go to Paddles and Pedals to rent some bikes and peddleboats. They are located on the north side of Big Bear which is a plus, in my opinion. The south side of Big Bear is very touristy with all the cabins, hotels, downtown area, and nightlife. North side is less developed and much quieter. They are easy to find and located next to the Observatory (another cool place to check out). We wanted to go peddle boating in the lake, but the salesperson told us that it was pretty windy. I appreciated the honesty because I don't think that most businesses would tell you this piece of information because it will dissuade people from using their business. However, Paddles and Pedals had so many different rental options that it's hard not to find something to do! Instead of peddle boating, we rented bikes instead and rode around the lake. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking (see photos). The bike trail is pretty flat (some small inclines) so bikers of all ages can enjoy themselves. The trail takes you close to the edge of the water and you can watch people fish/kayak/boat as you ride. They have helmets available but we decided not to get them because the bike trail does not require you to ride on the main road. Very safe path! If you check-in you get a 10% discount! Our final bill came out to be $9/hour for each bike (normally $10/hr). read more

RUDE I found this company online and wanted to get some information about their Covid procedures. There was no mention of it on their webpage and the Yelp page specifically says to "Contact the business for more information about recent service changes". I called the business and asked if they have special covid procedures or if I should bring my own cleaning supplies so that I'm prepared during my visit. The person who answered the phone said "we clean before hand but if you're that worried then stay home." This was completely uncalled for. Last minute and they were ready to accommodate my group. We had a great customer service. Pretty great view of the lakes lighthouse too for kayak and SUP. This location is away from the tourist area of big bear lake so it wasn't a crowded area. I just wish there was a sand area for chairs and umbrellas for those who want to wait and just want to watch instead of participate in the water activities, that indeed lacked. The area of the lake was not too bad in terms of the water quality. I wouldn't recommend for swimming but good enough for the water activities. read more

Really cute efficient check in booth, kayaks, and bikes. Nice guy, owner works on site. (Company was a referral from a local massuse). I checked in at booth, price was more than reasonable, and I was directed to the dock to meet a young lady and get my kayak. (They could definitely mark the road better to find the dock, I got lost, went down wrong dirt road, had to reverse up a dirt road). I think a bit more instruction on paddling in choppy conditions, places to paddle to, to go see would of been great. Ill be back and will maybe rent a bike next time. read more
