Grandpa was friendly and helpful. Clean rooms. Laundry service for $10 which was well worth it to me after backpacking for six days.

A small family country style lodge run by a long standing family. Warm welcome. Small rooms. But kept in great shape. Very clean and cozy.

More park amenities are coming. The inn is a heritage inn buit in 1915 but with the expected hotel amenities. That said we got the idea that money might be tight becuse the level of expected service was not there. We ordered a charcuturie board and a bottle of wine and was told it was delivered to our room. We had been traveling all day and arrived after the onsite restaurants had closed. The board was not there. They handed us a bottle of wine but there was no board! The nice lady at the front desk got the workers who were cleaning up the kitchen to fix us a board and we eventually got it and it was delivered to the room without utensils, napkins or plates. But we requested and got those. We heard 2 slightly different stories about why we had not gotten the board when we arrived. However it was good. The next day our room still was not cleaned when we returned from our hike around 2:30 p.m. The dirty dishes were still there. We were told it would be cleaned after all the rooms that needed to be ready for incoming arrivals were done. So we could not shower or take a nap while waiting for housekeeping. There is only 1 chair in the room and bed wa still unmade, I think staff is trying to be accommodating but either they are understaffed or poorly managed. Our first impression was not great as the entryway was not too clean. Doormats and windows were dirty. Our room and bathrooms were clean though. It is a beautiful inn but needs some polish to make it classy. Better management. The inn has an onsite spa, a giift shop. Hikers Cafe. Bar with indoor or balcony seating. and formal dinig room. I did not like my breakfast or dinner but that could have been just the choices I made. My husband's steak was very good. Bar drinks were great. Discounts are given to hotel guests.

A complimentary goodie bag was a nice welcome, and included earplugs. Very clean, easy check in and out, walkable to a variety of restaurants and beautiful grounds. The interior lobby of the hotel does feel a bit outdated, but the rooms were clean and comfortable, I had a desk and a large clean bathroom. Amenities like shampoo, mouthwash, makeup wipes, and even ear plugs were included which was a nice touch. The woman working the front desk was a bit odd. When we arrived we gave the name of the person on our team who had booked the room (who had told us the rooms would all be under his name) and she looked it up, said, "Nope, I just have one room under that name," and then stared at us blankly. We panicked a little at that point - she didn't ask us if it could be under any other name, or you know, let us know that she had other rooms available. We finally spoke up to see if she could check whether or not they were under our individual names, which they were. The rest of our stay went well though -- there was one restaurant (Patton's Tavern) still opened by the time we arrived at 9 pm, so we got some food and passed out. Wish I'd had more time to explore the place, maybe next time.

The tourism, real estate and media industries and the government sell a narrative of trees, lakes and hiking. All this can be yours for the low price of $3 million for a second home. Or you can stay in a hotel and enjoy a convenient 25-minute trip from a highway. The actual locations you're trying to visit tend not to have hotels. I'm not a zoning expert but I have seen how impossible it is to find train-friendly hotels. The Holiday Inn Express is reachable from the Peekskill train station. While some maps will indicate a 1-mile walk on a some unappealing looking roads, but the riverfront waterway will get you there. Let's call a 17-minute walk. Travel light! There's outstanding waterfront scenery at Charles Point Park. There appear to be two restaurants walkable from the hotel. I walked to the village of Peekskill but normal people won't want to do that (not a bad Uber ride presumably). On more hotel-specific factors, the shower pressure was excellent, the room was far bigger than usual and all the workers were friendly and helpful.

Once I booked it and asked around I realized that Mohonk has a huge following especially for the mystery weekend. I was excited to also learn that there was an Edward Gorey art exhibit! 2&1/2 hours from my house, not a bad drive! Check in time was at 4:00 but we got there early so they stored our luggage and said that they would deliver it to our room and call us when it was ready. We got a quick bite in the bar area which was not included in the weekend but we were starving! Then we looked around and went to a healing bowl meditation in the spa area. It was so relaxing, a great start to the weekend. They called us to come get our key and we went up to the room. It was Victorian looking with a balcony that had rocking chairs and 2 beds. Very pretty. The bathroom was big and had a walk in shower. It think it was a handicapped room. I didn't request one but when I called to make the reservation I inquired about how difficult it would be for a person to get around with a walker so perhaps they took the hint. The resort was massive!! And also beautiful to look at inside and out. It was also extremely clean with fresh flowers all over the place and little nooks to sit in to look outside and take in the views. The mystery weekend was so much fun. It was a play in 4 parts and by Sunday at 10 am you had to submit your guess as to "whodunnit". Just like a real life game of clue. There was also a thick packet of puzzles and games to try to solve by looking all over the hotel at the artwork to solve them. We ended up skipping that packet because we wanted a more relaxing experience. We did participate in the tabletop escape room which was really fun. We also skipped an afternoon tea on Saturday that let you interact with the characters and ask them questions to help try to solve the murder mystery. Instead we went to the spa for 2 different meditation classes. We repeated the sound bowl from the day before and also took another one which was part lecture and part meditation. I think we were supposed to choose between the mystery weekend and the regular stay which included the classes because there was so much to do besides participating in the mystery activities that we couldn't get to any other resort activities without skipping the mystery activities. We loved the mystery activities but decided that next time we would go for a relaxing spa type of stay. As far as the food, it was delicious and a lot of it! There was breakfast, brunch/lunch and dinner. We opted out of the breakfast and went to brunch both days which was a buffet with breakfast and lunch options. There were also stations to get freshly made food such as pasta, waffles, carving stations and a whole dessert area. The food was definitely upscale. For dinner it was a sit down with a waiter and a 3 course meal. The dinners took forever! First came the bread which was freshly baked and amazing, then we ordered the appetizer and the entire. The appetizers took a long time to come out but the entree took at least 45 min to arrive both nights. On Friday night we had to be at the first installment of the murder mystery play at 9:00 and our dinner came at 8:50! We took a few bites and had to leave. They were nice enough to tell us to stop back later to pick up our dessert to eat in the room. I enjoyed the brunch more than the dinners to be honest, the fish dish I had one night was extremely bland. Second night, same snafu but we did not have to be anywhere at 9pm so we stuck it out. If there were 1/2 stars this place would rate a 4&1/2 in my book. The 1/2 being taken because of the dinners and the price of the weekend. Now that I am on the mailing list, they are sending me some better deals and specials. I'll definitely be back to take advantage of those!

There is an indoor pool and spa. My wife took a dance class, and we hiked part of the way up the mountain, and part of the way around the lake, stepping around the piles of horse manure, because the they use the same trail. We had a king bed room with a balcony with two rocking chairs and a scenic view of the mountains. The room was tidy and the bed comfortable. Bathroom was clean, but other than a tiny glass shelf over the sink, no place to put your toiletries. Your daily hotel room charge includes a gourmet 3-course dinner, buffet breakfast, and buffet lunch. From the dinner menu, I ordered the lobster en croute soup, the roasted halibut, and chocolate cake. Everything was delicious. Alcohol and espresso coffee drinks are not included. A beer was $11 and a single espresso $6. The buffets were lavish, but too much food, especially since breakfast and lunch were served just four hours apart. Our room for one night for two with the three meals, plus one 8 oz. carafe of wine, one beer, and one espresso with dinner cost a whopping $1,700 with the fees and taxes. We had a pleasant time, but that was exorbitant. My wife wanted to check this place out, no reason to return.
