We had an absolutely amazing & memorable time with Bear Ridge Adventures. Hands down the most memorable experience of our trip! From the accommodation (of 3 sleds/mushers/teams with 48 hours notice on Christmas Day) to the patience (2 people from our group showed up 10 minutes after our scheduled start time) to the kindness Kayla showed us and our kids (brought her pups in 1-by-1 for my kids to play with), we were beyond impressed and appreciative...and that's before we even took 1 step onto a sled!!! The entire experience, from beginning to end, was outstanding! Unlike many other tours & operators, Bear Ridge Adventures "starts the clock" only when you're actually sledding, not from the time of the short video tutorial or travel time to and from the starting point. The mushers were kind and informative. They shared so many interesting facts with our group, over the entire duration of the experience. The dogs were so sweet and cute (and hard working!). I would call this a "once-in-a-lifetime" experience, but after the fantastic experience we had, we will certainly make a point of coming back and sledding with Bear Ridge again! This was SO FUN AND SO CUTE. If you like dogs, adventures, and potentially bumpy rides... Do not hesitate to sign up to ride! I can't say enough good things, probably because I'm still drunk off the cuteness of getting to meet all the pups halfway through the ride and again at the end. They needed to get going right away when we arrived because they were so EXCITED. Lots of hopping, howling, ahROOOOOs, and chirpy barks-- beware of that volume if you're bringing a child or someone sensitive to loud noise. Our three year old was a little overwhelmed by the noise at first, but was offering the dogs hugs by the end! The hour-long ride is five miles, which is nothing for these energetic fluffs. They were bounding through the snow, stopping for occasional chomps for hydration, and seemed to be having an absolute blast. There is an element of kickback for those riding in the "basket" of the sled, so definitely be prepared with sunglasses or goggles and maybe your jacket zipped up so you can duck in to protect your face when needed. There are also BIG bumps at some points-- you will catch some air! The views are breathtaking and the mushers were all so friendly and knowledgeable. I hope the next time we are.in the area, we can bring a group of family so we have an excuse to go again!. read more

SLEDDING SATISFACTION I wanted to venture off from friends snow boarding nearby. Dog sledding was a bucket list item and from former experience, challenging to book at times. I was able to get in the next day and hopped along with Wade who was a friendly and knowledgeable musher. This place is wonderful. I took my wife and son for our first dogsledding experience and it was way better than I could have expected. It's a bit expensive and the location where you check in doesn't really exude luxury. But Bear Ridge delivers where it matters. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, beautiful scenery, amazing dogs, and great "mushers". From the ride up to the rode down everything was amazing. They let you meet the dogs. We did the one hour which was a great amount of time. It's basically an up and back with a brief stop in the middle to take photos. You do need to pay attention to the weight limit which is all described on their website. I recommend standing on the back, rather than sitting in the sled. It's a really cool experience. My musher Lynette was SO nice. And my wife and son's musher Mason was also fabulous. They really care about your experience. There are a lot of choices for this kind of activity. Had a great time dog sledding with Bear Ridge Adventures. Landscape was breathtaking and the musher was super knowledgeable and had great stories. Staff is top notch and are helpful with logistics and planning such as what to wear and how to get to the location. Booking was simple: We gave them a call, asked for available time slots, and boom. Done. You follow a snow packed trail through the wilderness and get to see the raw nature of Utah. We passed by a valley, major tree lines, and of course the mighty mountain ridge. Midway, we rested on top of a foothill and had an unparalleled view of the surroundings. At the same time we got to play with the dogs before resuming our dog sled. The dogs were healthy, strong, and a fountain of limitless energy. Pro tip: At the start there is a burst of speed so hold on! They really enjoy running and you learn a lot about how they run as well. The dogs are rescue dogs and they are well-taken care of. There's all kinds of snow breeds from malamutes to Alaskan huskies. All of them have their own temperaments and quirks. Some are shy and some are outgoing, but all of them are friendly. If you're lucky, after dog sledding you may see them howl together as a pack. It was a surreal experience when we witnessed that. Overall, Bear Ridge Adventures was THE highlight of our trip. Highly recommend. 5/5. My wife and I got our first husky the year after we married, and several of the hard-headed little fuzz-balls were extremely important in our lives for the next 30 years. (We may well have another at some point.) To say that I have of love of huskies is an understatement. With that bias disclosed... Though huskies had been part of our family for years, we had never been on a dog sledding outing. For Christmas, my wife decided it was time we go, and she presented me a gift of a sledding experience with Bear Ridge Adventures. We went on the anniversary of our engagement in January, and it was a wonderful experience! When we arrived, Wade greeted us and soon thereafter, we met Natalie, too. We put on our colder weather gear, signed a standard waiver, and headed down to meet the dogs. We were delighted that we were not only invited but encouraged to help harness the dogs and place them on the gangline. From the first "hike" to the final "woah," the ride was everything I could have hoped for. Despite being a bit overcast the day was beautiful and while we thoroughly enjoyed the countryside, including viewing several deer and moose, I found myself constantly drawn back to watching the dogs as they powered our sled down the trail. Across flat ground and going downhill, the fourteen dogs raced with an obvious joy, while they slowed to more of a working pace on the uphill portions of the ride, pulling the sled and the three of us -- Wade, my wife, and me -- with amazing power and ease. As anybody who knows huskies can attest, these powerful dogs love to run and love to pull. We stopped a couple of times along the trail, and each time the dogs waited patiently, but were clearly anxious to resume the run. We stopped at the top and took a bit longer break. Wade said he wished they'd stop a bit longer -- not that they really need much of a break -- but that they'd be raring to go again as quick as we'd let them. I took the opportunity to walk the length of the line, kneeling to talk to each of the dogs, scruff their beautiful faces, give them a few little pats, and thank them for the ride. They patiently obliged my greetings -- some very excitedly while some were a bit more reserved -- but it was obvious that they were ready to go at a moment's notice. I'd no sooner gotten back to the sled when the barking started, announcing their enthusiasm to continue the trip. Wade pulled the hook, uttered "hike," and off we went again. Throughout the ride, we had a nice conversation with Wade about the Bear Ridge dogs, our mutual love of working dogs generally and huskies specifically, and swapped several stories. Natalie had gone ahead of us on a snow machine, just to check the trail, etc., and we visited with her briefly at a couple of stops, as well as at the top when we took the longer break. Wade and Natalie were extremely friendly and enjoyable, and clearly love working with the dogs. At the end of the run, we helped in taking the dogs off the line and taking off their harnesses. We took the last opportunities to talk to each of the dogs and give them a few more pats of thanks. We visited a bit more with Wade, played with a couple of the puppies, and then headed for home. What a wonderful adventure! Recommended? Absolutely! The entire experience was fantastic. Great dogs. Great people. Great location. Great fun. If you're at all put off by the price, don't be. Sled dog operations are expensive to maintain, and the experience you'll have is worth every penny. Take the time to appreciate these marvelous dogs, doing what they've done for countless generations. It's one of the most wonderful partnerships between humans and dogs. The views as we were sleighing through the snow was beyond beautiful. But I have to say the best part of the day was just getting to give all the pups love at the end of the tour. This family-run operation in every way is the real deal. From the moment we arrived at the dog kennel it was apparent that these dogs absolutely wanted to run and desired to be chosen to be on the team. Our musher, (probably all of the mushers) was expert in their craft, both in educating us about the sport as well as handling the dogs and sled. As part of that education, we were encouraged to help harness the dogs, which gave us a massive appreciation for the strength and vitality of these animals, and as well how much work the mushers have to do each day. We were given the option to either have both passengers sit in the sled, or like the musher, have one stand on the runners. We chose the latter alternative, and would absolutely recommend it for anyone with some balance and strength; as it completely added to the experience. Within minutes of getting on the sled we felt we were in the back-country as there were no other people, and we saw other wildlife, like deer! The dogs were absolutely amazing, keeping up a good pace around turns and up hills. At the half way point we had a brief rest, and took some photos. The return trip was downhill and the team really took off. In some ways Bear Ridge Adventures dogsledding was the highlight of our trip and exceeded every one of our expectations as well as giving us a real introduction to the sport. To everyone taking a winter vacation to the Salt Lake City area, we would highly recommend taking the time off to experience this dedicated group engaged in such a great sport. read more
