On a BMX roadtrip through Big Bear Lake and on up to San Francisco, I was in a tind when I needed new spokes for my back wheel and I needed it trued. I took it into Bear Valley and even though they don't carry a lot of BMX parts, they had the exact sized spokes in stock. I built the wheel up myself, but then couldn't get it to spin true. So I took it back into BV Bikes and Jeremy was able to true it ON THE SPOT. I was psyched on him and the little shop, and was back rolling on my bike a half hour later. read more

This is probably the best bike shop I've ever been to. Stopped there to ask for a a compressor to pump by hard to seal tubeless, they caught my bike, cheked it, changed the sealant, changed the valves wich were dead. I even got some awesome ESI grips for 10 bucks. Vulcanized chainstay, brake tune up, shifting tune up, all for 5 bucks labour. Yep 5 bucks! Obviously tipped them for being awesome. They were fun, they were also riders and kept talking about bukes and trails. Alao showed me the way to the trails. Whished this was my LBS. read more

I received outstanding customer service from guys in the service department helping me deal with a problem with my new Shimano XTR Di2 shifting system the day before a race. I walk in with the problem, they immediately put the bike on the stand and got to work. The problem required some new parts which that didn't have so THEY called down to a bike shop in Redlands to help find the required components. A few hours later I was back in action While the best case scenario is that they would have had the parts, I can't really expect that given how few of these systems are out in the wild at this point. What really matters here is they couldn't fix the problem directly but they continued to OWN the problem by helping me find the right place that could solve the problem. Poor service overall. The owner lady never said "hi" but just treated our group as just another #. The location of the bike shop is not good if you are looking to just cruise around the Lake since you have to take busy unmarked surface streets for like 4 miles just get to the Lake. I have to admit most of the bikes are in great shape but when we returned the bikes, the owner lady seemed like she put on these "eagle eyes, inspector glasses" to look for any scratches, dents or any mechanical changes so she can charge xtra fee. This place was good.... Bikes were good, friendly staff. Got a couple bikes for an hour and half, i just wasn't pleased that we road for an hour and half and they rounded up to 2 hours. No big deal, and extra 10 bucks but it just rubbed me the wrong way. If you charge by the hour, you should charge by the hour. Or disclose you don't do half hours. Came up for the weekend and rented hard-tails to take my nephews on the trails. The store has a classic LBS (local bike shop) feel to it with workshop in front and another room filled with gear and bikes. They accommodated our request to pickup the bikes the night before for an early ride and charged us half a day. I also picked up the latest Follett's Map which proved very useful. read more

I love the bike shop vibe, you can tell the employees are true riders. It's a small shop, so don't expect to be waited on hand and foot on a busy weekend. Wow, what an awesome bike shop! I write this review as a former bike mechanic at a great bike shop in Colorado. Derek and Ali went way above and beyond in helping me with a warranty situation: I bought a Specialized S-Works steel mtn bike 23 years ago (that is not a typo); on a ride a few weeks ago in Colorado, the frame cracked. I'm in the middle of an extended road-trip, and brought my bike in to Bear Valley Bikes to see if anything could be done, or if they had an old frame I could transfer my components to. What they did is nothing short of amazing; they were able to get Specialized to offer me a completely new mtn bike - one that is WAY better than what had just broke! I know this was not easy for them to accomplish (thanks Ali!), and I am beyond thankful to them for getting this done for me. On top of that, it turns out they had a slightly better bike in stock, so they built that one, charged me LESS than the difference, and let me take the bike out of their stock! So, to recap; less than 2 weeks from the frame cracking on my 23 year old mtn bike, I had a brand new, and much better, bike in my possession. Who does that? This is customer service at its finest, all for someone that hadn't ever spent a dime in their shop! They did not have to do what they did, yet they spent the time and effort to make sure I was happy with a product they sell. (On that note, Specialized certainly deserves some kudos as well - sticking behind a 23 year old product is pretty impressive). Imagine how they would treat someone who buys one of their bikes. If you actually do buy a bike here, you will get service beyond compare, and they will stand behind the products they sell. This is an extremely high quality bike shop, staffed by good people who care. My advice is that if you live within 200 miles of Big Bear, buy your bike at Bear Valley Bikes! read more

Called this location in a panic today before heading on a bike ride, my TREK hybrid bicycle's chain fell off and was told to bring it it for repair, it wasn't too busy at the time. Once I arrived, I was quickly greeted with an associate willing to help right away. They placed my bike on the rack and started inspecting and even preformed maintenance on it with no hesitation. Once he was finished, I asked how much for the repairs and he quickly replied "don't worry about it." I noticed a tip jar on the counter and decided to compensate him that way. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this location to anyone in need of any bicycles, repairs, accessories, snacks, water and even rentals. read more

This seems like a pretty cool place at first they had quite a few bikes to choose from but the bike they ended up giving me had quite a bit of wear and tear on it. the back tire right out of the shop which was close to bald.l and the lack of braking power from both front and rear brakes. But I went back to return the bike as kindly asking manager to get some kind of discount due to the poor shape of the bike they gave me instead they end up charging me extra. If you want fair prices on decent bikes I'd recommend getting them at the mountain. I would highly not recommend this place. read more

These guys are awesome! I have a 2017 Specialized Demo 8 S-Works and when my local bike shop put the bottom bracket in, they added an extra spacer for some reason. My cranks wouldn't tighten correctly and no one could figure it out until I took it to Bear Valley Bikes. They're a Specialized S-Works dealer which means they know their stuff! They're super awesome and even helped with my girlfriend's bike when she went down on Westridge from a rock. She bent one crank like crazy, but they had some cranks that fit and got us back riding. They've done other little work too that I didn't feel like doing while down from Mammoth. I don't bring every single tool with me and I trust these guys and then some! Can't wait for next season. read more

Small business. Great service. My husband bought a carbon bike with package at a great price. First road bike so we were looking at the entry level packages. The owner and staff even spent the time showing us how to clip in (and out) properly. Also took the time to build a bike so we could compare the difference in rides between aluminum vs. carbon. While up in Big Bear for a short weekend getaway, I stoped by their shop to rent a bike just to peddle around the lake. I had NO ideas the new Specialized Status 2013 bikes had arrived. I spent about an hour talking with the guys/girls at the shop and one of them personally had one. I was stoked. I purchased the bike even tho it wasn't ready for delivery and picked it up the following day. The staff there is top notch. They were extremely helpful and willing to answer all of my questions. These guys are legit! This is a shop that is run by riders, unlike Chains Required down the street which is a snowboard shop masquerading as a bike shop in the summer. These guys know how to work on high end bikes and they are happy to earn your business. Since they all ride they can relate and have a passion for two wheels like most serious riders. My girlfriend and I came to Big Bear to ride the Tour de Big Bear, we stopped in here as it was local to our hotel for some zip ties which they gave us free of charge. We returned to check in to see if they had a "last years model" road bike and ended up picking up a superb Specialized Ruby. We stopped by a few days later to have them check out the shifting which was a bit heavy and Derek and Jeremy spent 90 minutes making sure the bike was perfect, new cables and a rear derailleur later we left with smiles, a fantastic bike and a great experience. Can't recommend this store enough for good down to earth cyclists who love the sport and put their heart into making sure the customer is happy, as Jeremy said we don't sell bikes we sell fun! Dang it, my review from 2 years ago somehow didn't stick. Oh well, even more positive experience since for these guys. We have purchased a new bike, had bikes tuned and repaired, gotten accessories and advice on where to ride from Derek and his staff. This is an extremely approachable shop. You are talking to folks who ride constantly, hard, here and elsewhere, even competitively, and still take the time to get your little kid's first mountain bike dialed in every bit as carefully as I'm sure they do with the totally sick bleeding edge stuff they have in stock. Don't let the shop's size fool you, they are very good at packing the rafters. You can tell some shops love what they do, and this is one of those shops. They just took the time to bring my aging hot rock up to par, and the tech worked with me to ensure I was happy with his work. Most shops - for a $45 cable job - would have done the job, stickered it, and that's it. This guy did a really nice job, and fixed my derailer, even washed the bike, and rode it with me to get the range just right ... on a bike that might now only be worth that same $45!!! I'm temped to bring my other bikes from home up here just for the service! And I still need to take advantage of Derek's kind offer to train my legs for clip-ons I bought from him 2 years ago for my full suspension. Somehow riding with the kids has gotten in the way, and it's all good. Thank you guys again! Truly an excellent experience. read more

Bear Valley Bikes is my favorite bike shop ever. The staff is super friendly. You can tell that they have passion about what they do. There is no bike shop snobbery in here that you sometimes get at other shops. The store, though small, has lots of good quality stuff packed in there. I live a couple hours away and when I'm in Big Bear, I always find an excuse to stop in. Terrific customer service. I took my bike to them because the shifter had frozen up and I could only upshift. I figured a gear had broken inside the shifter unit. The technician heard me describe the problem, stopped what he was doing, injected some lubricant into the unit, explained the problem to me, and I was on my way. No charge, and no hassle. My family was in Big Bear for the week of Fourth of July. What I now understand is one of busiest times of the year in Big Bear. We thought it would be fun to rent bikes on the fourth. Without checking out several bike shops, we stopped in at Bear Valley Bikes. Boy was that the right decision! We had excellent service and help from every one who worked there. They fitted all of us with the perfect bike and made sure we were safe. We even rented a tandem trailer for our dog! They gave us great advice on where ride. They were so laid back and relaxed about how long we could be gone. We were never stressed about the time. We had a super fun day!
