This is the first cream puff place that I've seen in Plano and it's really delicious!! I got the matcha shell with matcha filling, as well as the strawberry shell with vanilla filling. The cream puffs are priced at $3.50 each and are a little smaller than the size of ones palm. The cream puffs have a really good filling to shell ratio, with a good amount of filling that doesn't overflow or make the cream puff soggy. Most of the matcha and strawberry aspects of the shell come from the crust (?) Of matcha/strawberry chocolate (?) On top. This could just be for the holiday season but the strawberry shell also seemed to have hot tamales, which my sister and I were big fans of. Besides that, the cream puffs were light and fluffy and very enjoyable to eat. Out of the two, my sister and I both preferred the matcha one because it was less sweet and it had a good matcha flavor payoff. read more

Just checked them out for the soft opening on Friday. This was my first cream puff bakery experience, and it didn't disappoint! First, the store smells SO GOOD. I'd buy this scent as a candle. The wait was kind of long but expected for a soft opening. We got the green tea with green tea filling and the honey butter with vanilla filling. I really recommend the honey butter because it's not refrigerated like the chocolate and green tea shells are and the honey butter shell is nice and crispy. The soft opening only had 4 flavors (original, chocolate, green tea, honey butter) but I'll be coming back soon to check out the rest of the flavors! read more

I was very excited to try Beard Papa's after rave reviews from my friend, and I wasn't disappointed the first time. The choux pastry was light and airy with just the right crunch and the filling was smooth, plentiful, not sweet, and just the right consistency. Then the 2nd time I went, a week later, the pastry shells were much smaller and the filling was not as plentiful and extremely liquid. One bite and EVERYTHING came flowing out. I was very disappointed and it wasn't because the puff got hot because I ate it as soon as I bought it. The franchise needs to be consistent in the size of the shells and the consistency of the filling or they will eventually lose customers. I also wish they would make the pastry shells without using soya bean as an ingredient. (I asked). Why do they need it in puff pastry? Unfortunately, lots of Asian bread and pastries contain soy. read more

Came here during their soft opening! It was "buy 5, get one free", so I decided to grab some for my family before heading home. Atmosphere: the interior is very bright, with yellow painted walls and a story behind Beard Papa's. As soon as you walk in, you can smell butter and puff pastry. As you stand in line and order, you can see the employees filling the pastries with your desired cream. There aren't many places to sit inside except for a high table to the left, but there are some tables outside. Pastries: these pastries are the bomb.com! They're very crunchy and light all throughout, while the cream is filled up to the brim. I ordered one of each, three with green tea cream and the other three with regular vanilla cream. My favorite was the honey + butter - it had some sort of glaze on top, making it extra sweet. Con - the only con I had about this place was the price. It is a bit expensive, especially if you're trying to buy for more than 5 people. I would also recommend eating it all in one sitting - I left mine in the fridge overnight and it got soggy. My roommate has been so excited for this to come here in Texas and so I decided to visit after opening weekend. Not much of a line (which was nice) but it was also just before lunch on a weekday. The store itself isn't very large and only has some counter seating lining the walls (I think?), so not a place to hang with friends and enjoy desserts. I've never really been big on cream puffs (not big on stuffed baked goods to be honest) but figured I would give it a shot. Upon walking in, you could clearly smell the puff pastries being made (smelled good). You pick a puff shell (they had 6 available for around $3+ and one coming soon) and then a cream filling (only vanilla and green tea do not have an additional upcharge and 2 other flavors seemed to cost an additional $3+?). For me, these prices are a bit much for one baked good, especially if you want one of the other cream fillings. $6+ for one? That's a bit much... The cheapest option (regular with vanilla or green tea) is still $3.20. Nonetheless, I decided to try a couple out. I picked the chocolate with vanilla cream and honey and butter with vanilla cream. Like a noob, I forgot to take a picture when I got home (took it to go). I planned to share the puffs with my boyfriend and roommate, but realized very quickly that these puffs would not cut cleanly or evenly very easily. Still shareable, but expect for it to become messy. The outer shell tends to be fairly crunchy which contrasts the filling nicely. They were quite tasty. I definitely enjoyed both puffs and felt the inner cream wasn't overly sweet (which is a good thing). I liked that the shell was crunchy too. I'm definitely willing to come back and try/get some more puffs, but probably not too frequently. If it was a little cheaper, I'd probably be more willing to stop by more frequently. Plus... I don't even want to imagine how many calories one puff is... XD Anyways! Worth the hype of trying! I'll definitely be back. read more

This place was awesome even for their soft opening. The line was pretty long but they managed to get everyone's orders quickly and efficiently. The only thing was that their menu was limited because half of the flavors were "coming soon". I tried the honey butter shell and vanilla custard and it was so good! I don't know why other reviewers say that it's too sweet, it's literally a dessert place?? What do ya expect?? Anyway, it definitely reminded me of all the desserts I tried while in Japan because of the rich sweet flavor. Definitely will come back again when the other flavors are available! read more

I am so happy that Plano is blowing up with Asian dessert options! I had Beard Papa many years ago when visiting Vancouver and always remembered the shop so I was super excited to find out the Beard Papa's was coming to Plano! Upon walking in you are hit with the smell of fresh baked cream puffs. They offer a variety of dipped options such as chocolate, strawberry, honey/butter, matcha, or creme brulee. The fillings currently being offered are vanilla and matcha although I believe they have flavor of the month or alternating flavors at other locations so I hope they implement that here. I tried the chocolate dipped cream puff with vanilla filling. The cream puff was served cold so that the chocolate could harden. I absolutely loved my choice! There was a good layer of chocolate and it tasted rich and yummy. The vanilla filling was very light and not to sweet. The cream puff does get messy when biting in because the filling starts to squeeze out as well. The prices are a little expensive for one cream puff at $3+ but honestly what dessert place isn't expensive these days? I can't wait to come back and try the other flavors and fillings! read more

I'm happy that this place is conveniently close to where I live. I came here twice and was satisfied with both visits. On the first visit, I got the green tea cream puff with chocolate filling. At first I was really surprised by the filling, I was expecting it to more light and airy, however it similar to the consistency of melted ice cream. The chocolate was a bit overwhelming to me but still good! On my second visit, I got it with green tea filling and it was delicious!! Not overwhelmingly sweet! It's definitely very messy to eat so be prepared to have many napkins on hand. read more

Puff pastries are very good, and Beard Papa's makes some killer puff pastries! When me and some family friends walked in the staff was soft spoken, and kind. It was a quiet and calm, so it was a nice wait until we got our food. The food itself was heavenly, the puff pastry itself was very soft and warm, the filling was creamy, silky, and flavorful! It was amazing. The inside is excellently decorated, and if you look to your left there is a while little sorry about the store and it's intriguing! It's a nice place to try out! read more

Beard Papa's cream puffs are huge & completely overfilled with custard inside. We've been wanting to try it so we ordered 3 puffs - Original/vanilla, strawberry & green tea. I thought the flavored puffs were rather too sweet, but I can see other people like it better than the original. Get yoself plenty of napkins because the custard situation is messy. Also don't make the same mistake I did of shoving the paper bag inside my purse. That custard will melt & they need sturdier paper bag. read more

It turns out these suckers add up $$ pretty quickly. Overpriced in my opinion. The cream puffs were much larger than regular cream puffs if you're thinking about the frozen Costco puffs. Glad to see Beard Papa's make its way from CA to here in DFW. Went in during their soft opening and was limited to only 6 cream puffs per person and waited about 40 minutes. It was pricier than I remembered even with the 15% soft opening discount, those 6 cream puffs cost about $20. Like most things around DFW, anything opening from CA is probably just a hype and the crowds will dissipate (ie 85 Degrees, Daiso, Kura, etc.). read more

SO EXCITED to see Beard Papa appear in Plano! It's a cult favorite in California, for good reasons. The stores out there usually have lines. We love the cream puffs. Best: vanilla with creme brulee topping. Next best: vanilla in a chocolate covered cream puff. Tried dulce de leche cream puff, but wouldn't do that again. The caramel is very chewy and just not a great combination. Why mess with perfection? We also love the Paris Brest pastry (they call it something else, but it looks like a regular doughnut with a hole in the middle). So fantastic! When you walk in the door you are immediately caressed with the delicious smells of the pate de choux and pastry cream. We tried several to make sure they were all as yummy as they smelled. They were! We tried the original, chocolate, honey and butter, and creme brûlée. They also have strawberry and green tea. They fill them as you order them so they are not soggy at all. The shell had a wonderful crust and tender insides. The cream was rich and tasty and they are not stingy with filling the puffs. I was so excited when I heard beard papa's was coming to the DAllas area, I've been to multiple locations in California and is always a must do when going to California. I stopped by at 830pm so this may be the reason for the disappointment. The cream puffs were not fresh and the filling was way too watery. The taste of the filling was also off. Their puffs are not only crunchy from the outside but also solf to the inside. I tried 5 different flavors today and bravos. All of them were good. The sauces not to sweet that make it extra delicious but i do wish they have more flavors such as nutella or banana. Went to soft opening during the first day. Waited 30 mins to get my order as each puff is made to order and weighted before giving to the customer.
