I have always loved Beard Papa's and was so excited to hear one has opened up in Greenville! We came Saturday night near closing but they were gracious enough to let us order whatever we wanted! My friends and I got tons of filled cream puffs and cheesecakes - I got the matcha cream puff with matcha cream, the honey butter cream puff with vanilla cream, a cookies and cream mini cheesecake, and a lemon mini cheesecake. My parents LOVE their matcha cream puff. It's a tad sweet but the matcha flavor is delicious. My personal favorite is the honey butter cream puff-it has a crispy, sweet and salty shell that is DELICIOUS with the smooth cream. The cookies and cream cheesecake was rich, smooth, with chunks of Oreo cookies and the sweet creme. The lemon cheesecake was light and fragrant, perfect for a snack after lunch. I heard they make Japanese cheesecakes occasionally and cannot wait to try them!!! Please come support this local bakery and family, they make delicious cream puffs and desserts! I was going to pick up dinner when I saw Beard Papas... I thought hmm what an odd name. Is it something with potatoes ? Papas in Spanish means potatoes. Well... to my delightful surprise, it's cream puffs! They are fluffy puffs that are not overly sweet. You choose your puff and then pick what you want it filled with. Last night they had vanilla, chocolate, blueberry and green tea filling. Amazing crème puffs! I Loved my ube dipped purple dessert so much. It was perfect in every way, not too sweet and so fluffy soft. The young woman helping me was great in explaining the process when I mentioned it was my first time. I also ordered the Japanese cheesecake which was fluffy and phenomenal. This place is good but they do run out of items. I do like the japanese cheesecake which is a nice alternative if you didn't want a cream puff. I've gotten the strawberry milkshake which I don't recommend. It was super thick and flavorless. My nephew didn't even want it and he eats everything. I love Beard Papa's ever since I tried them in LA in the 2000s! They have some new shells and filings since my first BP experience but they are still tasty. I couldn't help myself and ordered 3 cream puffs: an eclair with original cream; an almond donut shell with green tea filling; and a honey butter shell with green tea. They were all delicious! I didn't know how I would like the almond or the honey shell, but both are definitely worth the taste. The almond one is nice and crunchy and the honey is just the right amount of sweetness that you don't fee overwhelmed with sugar. I'm glad I was in a town that offers some tasty sweet treats. read more

One day I was going somewhere on Woodruff rd and I noticed this sign from the distance. I thought it was so cute and interesting, so I immediately had to Google what it was. That is when I found out that it was a bakery chain that specialized in cream puffs. I instantly became excited because I love cream puffs lol But I also found out that they weren't open yet. And as much as I wanted to stop by when they did open, I decided to wait and go on my 30th birthday (back on July 24th). I got two different cream puffs and they was essentially my birthday cake for the day lol. The first cream puff I chose was the Green Tea Eclaire shell with green tea filling. I am an HUGE matcha fan so this was amazing to me. Both the matcha topping and filling was the perfect balance of sweet and earthy. It wasn't too sweet. The employee who rang us up let us know that they only use natural and real ingredients, and I could tell. Also, the cream was the perfect texture. Not too thick but also not too runny and EXTREMELY creamy. The actual cream puff itself was the perfect airy texture. I also got the creme brûlée cream puff and it was delicious! It had the normal creamy custard that a regular creme brûlée has, plus the the crispy caramelized sugar topping. But with this, there was the addition of the airy cream puff exterior. Which honestly, is better then a normal creme brûlée in my opinion. My wife got the Honey Butter shell with the green tea filling and that was also really good. I think I actually liked it more than matcha on matcha. I think next time I go I will try that one out for myself, plus a strawberry and a chocolate one of some sort. But yeah, I highly recommend Beard Papa's. They are awesome. Especially if you are looking for a sweet treat that is also natural. I can't wait to go back. read more

I've been here twice since they opened. The first time was their 2nd day opening and the owner was there. He was telling us about the ingredients they use on their products and different flavor combinations he likes. Basically, you choose from the different puff pastries and fillings. I believe the different puff pastry options they have right now are - original, chocolate, green tea, honey butter, crispy almond, Oreo, and creme brulee. For the fillings - green tea, chocolate, and vanilla. The vanilla is actually made from real vanilla beans. They will have additional flavors later on. I think I've ordered pretty much all of the flavors. I like that it's not overly sweet. Just the right amount of sweetness. And I like that there are so many options you can do to mix and match flavors. On my 2nd visit they had a sign for a special - you can choose from any of the puff pastries and it's cut in half and sandwich a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I'll have to come back and try that next time. The store is located on Woodruff Rd across the street from Lowe's and in the same strip as Oriental House. Parking spaces are available but it's probably hard to find a spot during prime hours. They do not currently have indoor dining. I think you can call in your order for pick up but no online order options. Overall, it's a nice treat to have in Greenville. Will definitely come back and try other flavor combos. read more

I used to live in California and worked in Cupertino. There was a Beard Papa's there but I never tried it. THANKFULLY, Greenville has the only Beard Papa's in South Carolina. The staff is so sweet and very friendly. I asked "so how does this work?" He let me know that there were originals (the not so sweet kind), eclairs, strawberry and Oreo (the more sweet kinds). There are so preservatives and they use vanilla bean for their custard. I choose the original. OH MY GOSH. I was shocked of how much custard was in the puff. I loved that there was a hint of sweet but I didn't feel sick walking out. I've already decided that this is going to be my cheat dessert for the week. I highly recommend this place. I was excited that I found Beard Papa's here. I think I've been spoiled by the one in Atlanta because they make it fresh when you order. I ordered 5 from here but they weren't fresh. It tasted okay but I could tell they were getting stale. The green tea/matcha flavor cream was very bitter. The shell matcha was sweet just the cream filling was bitter. I liked the ube flavor. I asked for ube filling because they had it online but they don't have it in store so don't get confused when you order online. For the price for just 1 cream puff that is not freshly made I don't think its worth it. Its good to try once though. read more

Ok, so I noticed this place before they were open and we Googled the name. Being a lover of any dessert that resembles a creme puff, I was excited (and a little afraid for my waistline) that this place is only a few miles from my house. After passing it a dozen times and not stopping in, hub and I finally couldn't resist any longer. We tried the chocolate-covered and strawberry-covered puffs, both with vanilla custard. Let me tell you, there is no delicate way to eat these things! With one bite, the custard came out everywhere! The puffs themselves were harder and more crunchy than we thought they would be, and maybe this is why. Not sure if they should have been softer and therefore, easier to eat. They were still delicious, and we enjoyed every messy bite! The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the owner/manager who greeted us and explained the varieties. The desserts phenomenal! The ingredients always fresh and seems to be top quality. They are cream puffs that the pastry is crunchy and fresh. The inside cream is sweet but not overindulging. We have tried the chocolate and the Creme Brûlée and is the prefect dessert! I always get my kids the Oreo one and they love it. The portions are big, but also enough for you to enjoy it. Sometimes I want to get more but just thinking about the calories... makes me get two but second one to eat it next day! We are always craving the puffs and is a unique pastry that we have seen in greenville - so far- or at least this good! My parents and I stopped by here after eating dinner in the same plaza. There were 2 young girls working at the time and they didn't say anything to us when we came in- not even a hello. There was no "what can I get for you?" Or "can we answer any questions?"- it was pretty awkward to just start ordering when no one asks you what you want. It's sad that the service was so incredibly bad because the cream puffs were pretty good. I know it's not asking a lot for someone to greet customers when they walk in. A tiny bit of good customer service goes a long way. 2 stars because the puffs were good and fresh but lost stars because of the awful customer service. Please do better. read more

It took me awhile to write this review because I wanted to be sure I wasn't going to speak reactively. After taking time to let the emotions die down, I wanted to let y'all know we were so excited to visit this store a few weeks ago. We heard so many great reviews and, as well-traveled foodies, couldn't wait! Unfortunately, our experience was so poor that we will not be returning. We walked in and took some photos of the fun interior while waiting for our turn to order. We greeted the cashier with "hi! We're so excited to be here, this is our first time!". She only stared at us and *literally* did not say a word. I found this odd but proceeded to ask her "do you only have Vietnamese coffee as a filling or do you have it as an actual coffee as well?" The cashier only looked at me and said "what? No. Are you going to order?" My party was taken aback but still determined to order. I expressed my apologies for being confusing. So I reiterated that it was our first time and "how do we order?" The cashier then proceeded to LITERALLY facepalm and rub her face in frustration and muttered something inaudible. after I said "pardon?" The other customers jumped in and gave us the run down. My friends, put off by the rude cashier, declined to order and one even left the store. I was embarrassed for the cashier so I continued to order three puffs. This was my first time and I was unsure of what my options were, but the girl at the front counter walked me seamlessly through my choices as she was so knowledgeable about the different products from cream puffs to different types of teas. I can't signal boost this place enough. The choux pastries are so fluffy with just the right amount of crisp. They're always super fresh, and the staff are so genuinely kind. If you love green tea then you can't miss the green tea filling in a green tea dipped eclair. It's earthy and creamy all at once.
