The funny thing about this location is it is across the street from another ice cream place that I like. It's a cute little ice cream place on Main St in Greenville, SC. The customer service could use a tad bit of help but for youngsters it was okay. I had the strawberry cheesecake rolls and OMG!!! When I say delicious it was just that DELICIOUS! I got about 6 rolls of ice cream with strawberry and graham crackers on top. This is a definite recommendation and I will be going again on my next visit to Greenville. read more

OK, so I get the appeal of a novel presentation. Ice cream rolls in a cup with lots of fun toppings and combinations. But I doubt I will bother to go back, let me share why. First, I understand I went at 8pm on Friday night. But a 25 minute wait to get one rolled ice cream "creation" and one single scoop in a cup is just long. The worker at the register was very friendly and helpful, and was happy to make suggestions. There was plenty of seating, even for what was apparently a very busy time, and lots of room to stand and walk around comfortably. The bottom line though is it is quite overpriced for the value. The single scoop cup with whip cream and no other toppings is $7. There was literally a tablespoon worth of whip cream on top, and unfortunately was delivered 10 minutes before the other item. The worker who I would call the expediter, adding the final toppings to the cups and handing them to the customers, was also very polite. However, she was quite clearly overwhelmed. A man who appeared to be either the manager or perhaps the owner was yelling at her in front of the customers, loud enough for all to hear. There was clearly more than enough for her to do and she was doing the best she could. Anyone who knows anything about management or just being a decent human being knows you do not berate and belittle an employee in public. So while I might have otherwise gone back every blue moon as an expensive treat, because of the a-hole in charge I will not go back. So tastes OK, costs too much, and while the employees were nice and capable, the rude management makes it a no go. read more

Went today with a group of friends, asked about ingredients and procedures, mentioned my daughter's food allergies, and they went above and beyond to accommodate us- without me having to advocate. They had a dedicated rolling station for allergies. The guy changed his gloves, all new clean utensils, was conscious not to cross contaminate, and instead of sending our ice cream down the line for final toppings, completed the order himself so we didn't run into any allergens on gloves or surfaces. I haven't had rolled ice cream like this before. It was really good and very interesting to just sit there and watch it be made. The system that they have to get the line moving is very efficient. Once you order it's not long before you get yours. The portion sizing are also very big. I could have probably split mine because it was that big but it was also god enough not to split. I like how it does melt as fast also. The whip cream melted faster than the ice cream and that's usually the other way around. I have premise this review by writing that I am not a big ice cream fan. However, I have, and will again, make a trip downtown just to visit Creme Shack. This is not a "scoop-out-of-a-giant-tub" ice cream. After you place your order, they pour fresh cream onto a cold plate, add flavor ingredients (fruit, candy, etc.), scrape the freshly-made ice cream into rolls, and serve it with appropriate garnish (cookies, berries, etc.). I've only ordered various types of fruit, as that capitalizes on the freshness; I don't see how candy, pie, or Nutella would be much of an improvement over Breyer's. The fresh fruit in freshly made ice cream, though, is very good. The service is slower than Kilwin's, and I'm pretty sure they don't make their own waffle cones, but they are my new favorite ice cream shop. read more

I really wanted to like this place after a friend of mine from Charleston sent me an article super hyped about how amazing this place was- Ice cream donuts anyone?! Turns out, no ice cream donuts anymore. Those were discontinued. The clerk said that they may have some more in the spring. ‍ There were a couple more things that seemed odd to me. They advertised 'almond milk' ice cream as an alternative for an additional charge... ok, cool! However, it ONLY comes in vanilla. Bummer. Next, my minion wanted 3 toppings on her ice cream scoops. We were told she was only allowed to have 3. What?! I still do not get this logic. I was willing to pay for an 'extra' topping that could have easily been piled onto her chocolate ice cream cup... but nope, she had to narrow it down. Don't worry, she survived the trauma! We didn't get to try the rolled ice cream because we didn't pick one of the menu items because of some topping restriction or another. I don't think we would visit again, to be honest. The ice cream wasn't bad, but it wasn't spectacular. We have other local ice cream shops that are above and beyond better, so the likelihood that we would go out of our way to travel back isn't high. I WOULD come back to try the ice cream donut. Our Charleston friends, who were going to come up to try this amazeballs overhyped ice cream heaven are now going to stay home. The Creme Shack serves rolled ice cream, which means it starts as a milk-based liquid that is poured on top of a very cold metal surface, and as it freezes it's chopped and mixed with whatever you choose, and then smoothed out to harden. Then it's 'rolled' (like a Swiss cake roll) with a spatula. The rolls are then put in a bowl and topped with whatever you like. There are 10 or so desserts on the menu, such as Oreo, Strawnana, S'mores and Key Lime, but there's also a design it yourself section so you can create your own flavors. The shop itself is set up nicely so that when you walk in you can grab a menu to choose what you like while waiting in line. There's one register where you pay ahead ($6.99), and the counter is surrounded by glass so you can watch the ice cream rollers in action. I found it interesting and fun to watch. The owner, Fred, is right in there with his young staff, rolling the ice cream as well. He'll happily answer questions for you about this unique dessert idea. There's plenty of seating in the dining area to sit and enjoy. We tried the Key Lime flavor and it was delicious, with a raspberry drizzle and a green Oreo for good measure. The desserts are a good size and, depending on how much you like to eat, are big enough to share.
