Bartender came out and yelled" hate to kick yall out but we are closed at 9:00pm, when clearly hours of operation state otherwise. This is a really funky concept. It's a sort of market for beer but very laid back and friendly. You can buy a glass from various places like in a bar, but they have various cans, too. You can sit inside it outside in their Biergarten. Everything is mix and match, as to both the beer and decor, but it works! We purchased 2 small kegs here for our kegerator. The staff was friendly and helpful. I inquired about dark beer. They gave me a taste of their own milk stout which was outstanding! Unfortunately, they do not offer that in a keg as of yet so I purchased some in cans. They also told me to try Cherry St Brewing That Coconut Porter- so I bought a few cans to try. Loved both of them! The keg prices seemed reasonable- not a lot of places around that offer kegs for home use. And they have a big variety of beers for kegs and different sizes. When in Knoxville for a short trip I wanted to grab a few craft beers and was hoping for a some more hard to locate items on my list. My experience was a bit short. I popped in the small store and was greeted warmly by staff. I discussed what I was looking for. It was explained that the higher ABV beers above approximately 10% that I wanted are in liquor stores. That information limited what I could purchase and desired from Bearden. The staff was knowledgeable about craft beer and it was fun to discuss different brews and brewerys. They did have a small store, but packed a lot of inventory. I could not find anything that worked for me on this trip. Good experience, I would return. read more

I've been going to BBM on and off again since 2011, close to when they first opened. It's got the best atmosphere put up against any place to drink in Knoxville. It's so laid back with plenty of space to hang out solo or with large groups. Yes, there may be sticky stuff or dirt on table, but it's an outdoor beer garden. So, you really shouldn't come here if you're up tight or looking for Whit glove service. The day had gotten away from us, I had just left the hair salon when hubby said "let's grab a bite." A minute later we drive into the parking lot right off Kingston Pike, park and walked into what I thought was going to be a dive but it turned out to be the courtyard of the Bearden Beer Market Brewery. It was chock full of tables, chairs, even a fire pit and outdoor lights. A welcome noise popped out of the window ahead with a "how can I help you" so we looked at the menu board and ordered a cheeseburger, a grilled chicken sandwich with spicy aoli sauce and French fries. Oh, my dawgie got a beef patty. What a fun experience, good music, a sense of welcome and family and OMG! the food was soooo delicious. We're definitely coming back. My wife and I definitely had a five star experience here. As soon as it became apparent it was our first time here (wandering around looking lost), an employee greeted us. He escorted us in the store and took some time getting to know what we like, showed us around the market and gave us some free samples. He also took us to the food vendor on site and informed him he had a customer. There was some confusion because the food vendor's sign states he doesn't open until 2pm, and he doesn't. But he did for us! He took our order despite not being open for business yet and brought us our meal when it was ready. We had our lunch and our beer in the "garden", and enjoyed the open atmosphere. There are no windows, just overhangs. Not the prettiest place in town, but certainly one of the most welcoming. read more

I've heard about this place since I've moved here, and yet I didn't go and check it out until recently. I think it's better with a group of friends because look, if you're going by yourself I'm not the type to just creep into people's space, because that's just creepy. I came here for an "unofficial yelp event" and it was fun! They have a big fire pit in the middle for those chilly nights. And absolutely a good amount of beer selections. It sort of reminds me of Common Market back in Charlotte, with the atmosphere and all. (If you're from Charlotte, you'll know what I mean) I'm sure I will be back here to buy some beer or if I want to hang out with some friends and can't figure out where to go to hang out. I think it's a great place to relax and have a couple of brews together. Who knows, meet a stranger or two? Food trucks are often there, I got a meal when I visited and it didn't disappoint! Go! This place is literally a beer market that used to be a flower/garden shop. It is pretty relaxing on a lazy Sunday to go sit on some picnic benches, while downing a cold one to get rid of your hangover. It is dog friendly, so bring your pooches if you want. They also have games like cornhole, so have your game-face on when you arrive. I really like this little place. I want to preface this by saying I didn't purchase any alcohol to consume at the beer market. I wanted to bring back some fine Tennessee whiskey back to Chicago, but I didn't know stores would be closed on Sunday. Therefore, this was the only place open! Service was extremely friendly and helped me pick out some awesome beer to bring home. If you're hungry, there's a small food cart outside. What a gem in Knoxville! I was home for a visit and my dad wanted to take us by the beer market to check it out. We were super impressed. So. Much. Beer. And the ability to drink one there!!! Things I've never ever heard of and a terrific selection local TN beer, including Bearded Iris. They offer many things we can't find in Georgia so it was a great way to peruse new beers. Staff were super super helpful and a pleasant to engage with. I had a great time sipping a beer and chatting up locals. The beer market has an awesome open area to play games and watch sports. I could see how you could spend a super fun Saturday afternoon or evening here drinking beer and enjoying being outside. Parking is wonky here so beware. Take the smallest car you can!!! read more

This is a very unique place, in a really good way. The beer selection is fantastic, the bartenders are friendly and knowledgable, and the atmosphere is comfortable and fun. It is dog friendly, which is great, too. My husband and I love this place! I have two wishes: more parking and more fans for hot days. This used to be a home and garden place, so I do understand the lack of parking options close by. At least it is just across the street from a huge parking area and there is a crosswalk, so it could definitely be worse. A lot of the space is open, so my suggestion would be to add more tables with umbrellas and some large industrial fans. read more

It just has the right balance of scruffiness and bohemian-ness. It's packed with Knoxvillians who wear Chacos everywhere (guilty), couldn't care less if people consider them "hipster" or not, and just want to drink a beer outside. The space is cool, but not your average beer garden and there is a substantial lack of "garden." Although, they have started planting more recently. Because its built at the bottom of a hill, I can get a little stuffy from a lack of fluid breezes. There are plenty of games to choose from such as corn hole, giant jenga, hoops, foosball, ping pong, and more. And you should definitely bring your dog. There is generally a food truck, but there are also nearby takeout places you can go for food as well. As for beer, they had sold $4.50-5.00 taps. It doesn't get as fancy or detailed as what you'll get at Hops & Hollars or Suttree's, but I will argue that the beer on tap matches the vide of the market. Also, I like that they just changed all of their restrooms into gender neutral rooms. read more

Again the bathrooms haven't been cleaned in days. There was dried throw up on the bathroom walls and toilet seat, no soap to clean your hands... Really??? There are leather recliners and sofas in an outdoor tent. They are just nasty!! Ripped everywhere and they smell like an old man's gym shoe's. We have no idea how people can sit on them. I'm pleased to report things have improved at the Beer Market. My wife and I visited on a sunny summer Friday evening. There were many folks drinking beer under the awning -- I still hesitate to call this a beer garden, but it works for Knoxville -- and milling about the store. The selection has improved greatly; the Market now has beer you can't get anywhere else in Knoxville to my knowledge. I saw many varieties from Victory, Bluegrass Brewing Co and Rouge. They also had some great selections on tap from Dogfish Head and others. My wife had a 7-ounce glass of the Beire de Garde from New Belgium and I had a pint of the West Coast IPA brewed for the Beer Market by Smoky Mountain Brewing. Both were great, though the IPA was a bit thin in the body and lacked the appropriate bitterness. The hop flavor was good however. I was surprised to see how quickly the Beer Market was going through kegs of their draft beer. If you see something you like going on tap via Facebook, make sure you get over there that evening! All-in-all, I think the Beer Market has improved their store greatly since my first visit. I'll definitely suggest this store as a place to visit for friends looking for something unique in town. read more

Bearden Beer Market is the perfect fair weather drinking spot. As Mary T noted, it used to be a flower shop and they have converted it to a beer store and beer garden. Most of the space is outdoor seating but they have a couple of areas with TVs couches, tables, etc spread around in the buildings that surround the courtyard. Additionally they are doing some construction to add some more indoor space. In addition to having one of the best under 6.3% bottled beer selections, which are only available for take away purchase, they also have ten or so craft beers on tap. You can drink a beer while you shop for more beer or drink beer and hang out in the beer garden with friends. The atmosphere is extremely casual, with tons of folks talking and hanging out when it's not too cold. There's always a corn hole game or four going and there's sometimes a firepit or propane heater if it gets chilly. The people working the taps are fast at their jobs, with some of them very knowledgeable about beers, and they don't except tips, though you can contribute tips to "toys for the market." Chris is the owner and he's often walking around talking to folks. He's an avid runner and BBM is the starting point for a run on Monday nights. Also, I believe if you show up on Monday having gotten to BBM using human-powered transportation, you will get a discount on beer. During the warm months, there are often food vendors. They occasionally have a barbecue vendor there, and last night there was a Savory Sweet food truck that's usually in Marble City's parking lot. Also, on Wed & Thursday you can cross Kingston Pike and hit up a good taco truck. Sergeant Pepperoni will deliver to BBM and you can get Pizza from Hard Knox and bring it over to BBM. The only, and I mean only, downside to this place is the draught beers are fairly pricey, with all either four or five dollars. They used to have a three dollar standard type beer last summer on the weekends, but I haven't seen that in a while. Still the atmosphere more than makes up for that. This is genuine treasure in Knoxville. Oh and a word about parking. You can park over in the strip mall parking lot across the street where Long's Drug Store and Region's Bank is. But don't park in Region's spots unless it's after bank hours. read more

Bearden beer market is a nice place to hangout. Unfortunately it needs a lot of up keep. The location is nice they could capitalize on their business model and attract more guests by improving the seating the facilities and bathrooms. It is all very just thrown together. I do love all the beer selections would like to see more Mexican style beers as Well. The food truck outside is nice since they do not serve any food. I would give this place 5 stars if the facilities were improved also if they came to you and asked for refills and had waiters servicing you. As of right now it is just a spot to hangout and drink it has potential to be nicer and grow. I will still continue to visit this place due to it being the only place in Knoxville like it. However not sure how they will do when top golf opens up. Again this is a Knoxville classic and will be for years to come. read more

Parking is a serious problem here. I'm not that keen on beer generally, so I've never spent any time in the beer garden. I've seen it, certainly, en route to the store. Most of it is open-air; some portion is covered by an awning, providing protection from the rain. I suppose it's okay, and it doesn't have much competition in Knoxville, so if you're into the beer garden scene, you'll probably like it. The store is why I visit, generally in search of the exceedingly hard-to-find Kronenbourg. They actually carry it. But they don't carry much of it; staff has told me they have to get it sent in from Nashville, and it has at least one other fan who is a frequent patron. Between he & I, we buy all the Kronenbourg they get in almost instantly. So sometimes I have to settle for less. Bearden Beer Market does offer a good selection of imported beers, and you can find most all of them in the walk-in cooler. Moretti, Castello, and Mythos are among those available you won't find at any supermarket (not even the Fresh Market across the street). Once, enchanted by the name and the label, I selected some Breughel; it didn't live up to expectations. If you're a beer connoisseur, you'll find enough options here to keep you busy. Staff has been either friendly or at least courteous, in my opinion. Other patrons also seem a decent sort; I've had some brief conversations. The place is not overrun by rowdy frat boys. If you're seeking just about anything more widely available, you'll find better prices elsewhere. Kroger, for instance, has both St. Pauli Girl and Peroni for $7.99. UPDATE, June 2013: In a bolt from the blue, the Food City located less than a mile west on Kingston Pike has begun stocking Kronenbourg. The Bearden Beer Market is not likely to see me again, alas. My daughter graduated from Vet school so we came to Knoxville for her graduation. She wanted to take me her because she knows my live of craft beers. This is a very unique place the have a wide range of craft beers. It is a large open place with a few indoor spots. They have maybe 4 or 5 corn hole games. They have a few other games. The were a few people that brought their dogs. My daughter being on of them. If you are in Knoxville you should try it. Its not fancy kind of eclectic. read more
