There is a recurring bear theme to the décor. Go figure.

This is very quirky tasting room with a surprisingly high quality selection of locally sourced beer and wine. Parking is street only, but this isn't the bay area so that's something that is totally possible to do. Worst case scenario is that you'll be around the corner down a side street a few blocks away. This is a difficult spot to describe. upon entry you'll be in the bar counter area which is where you pick up your drinks, peruse the menu, introduce yourself to the dog, and chit chat with whoever is hanging around. Keep on going in and you'll get to the rest of the space which is eclectic in the extreme. There is more counter seating, chaises, lounge chairs, ironmongery, bear themed décor, an impressive beer garden, couches, a water station, snacks for four legged people, an amiable cat, a smoking area(popular with cigar aficionados. Don't panic the space is more then big enough to get away from them should you need to) , space heaters, blankets (for when you get chilly), and in general a whole bunch of amazing space to relax with a drink. There are a limited number of taps which means most folks come with friends and share a bottle. All of which fine, but expect to spend around twenty dollars here more or less depending on choices made. The owner lives and works on site everyday, so there are no real service issues. The front bar counter area can get jammed on super busy days, but the sheer mellowness of the spot goes a long ways towards defusing any particular badness. There is no kitchen but no one minds if you bring your own food. It's not the fanciest spot in town, but it is the most charming, intimate and mellow spot for a glass in the area.

Loved it! It was my first time visiting and it was so comfortable walking in! Great customer service and awesome selection. The animals were an added bonus and worth quite a few "awwwwwws".

Before you settle on the flashy bars down the way, take a gander at the Bear's Hideaway. If you don't like cigars, don't let that deter you, because a wonderful out door garden awaits! The generosity is abundant, the moods is cozy and relaxed. It's comparable to a cabin with a garden in the back. Wonderful selections means everyone will have something that they'll enjoy here. Instantly this has become my favorite place, especially to bring well love company out for the day. Thank you, Bear's Hideaway!

My wife and I stopped in for a glass of wine during San Juan's recent street fair. Wine was good and friendly service.

Not NYC good but better than most CA pizza which is just California over dramatized as I like to put it. We also had The friend cauliflower and broccoli which was also delicious and a yummy. Again really surprised. The beer is good and very potent...2X or greater compared to other beers. I like it. It I have had seriously better but their beer is no slouch either. Service was good albeit slow at the bar. Seems they are one short if they are going to heavy food service at the bar but it was a Friday. The barista was nice though and nice goes a long way in any occasion. Ambiance is. Ice and it was definitely an old, old bank with vaulted ceilings. I absolutely love wide open areas and this placed used the space really well which made for comfy yet spacious feeling. Well done. Nothing I could really find wrong. I liked it and it was really nice. Definitely worth a visit but parking can be an issue in busy weekends.

Good thing we live in Hollister so that we can frequent this place again. A clam chowder starter (delicious!), a huge loaded baked potato, veggie sides that weren't mushy & garlic bread where you can taste the garlic. Elsewhere, we'd have to order those separately. The best part of our meal was our server, Maddie. She was super attentive and friendly. The place was packed and we snagged the last table before others had to wait. We figured Maddie would drop our food off and we'd never see her again, being the mad house it was. But she checked back with us at least 5 times - filled my drink without me asking. It was the best service I got all year anywhere. Thank you, Maddie, for restoring my faith in great customer service!

The outdoor area is pretty cool, there is cornhole and other games to play. I like all the picnic tables for you to find a spot and hang out at after you get your drinks and or food. When you're inside you walk up to a counter and order your drinks and food. There are also coolers where you can pick out unique beers. We didnt get food this time as we had just come for dinner, but everything we saw looked pretty tasty. The prices weren't too bad, pretty moderate. The service was great, all employees that we encountered were super nice and friendly. It was also pretty clean given the fact that it was the middle of a busy Saturday night. The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star review is that there could have been more tables inside. I felt like there was alot of dead space that could have been better utilized. It was pretty chilly the night we went, so sitting outside without a heater was a bit of a buzz kill and we would have stayed longer had we had a different place to hangout. All in all, cool spot, good people, good drinks, good vibe!

The music playing was loud mariachi type which is fine by me. I'll mention that my guy friend and I are as white as they come and I was nervous going to this establishment as it's obviously geared towards the Hispanic community. However, there were no problems and we all got along just fine. I mention the race thing because unless you've been living under a rock, there's always a divide between Hispanics and whites and whatever and a lot of the community assumes it's too dangerous to be downtown at night because of that fact. I was born and raised in Gilroy I know how it goes . However I refuse to let that keep anybody from relaxing and having a good time..it's ridiculous to hate for no reason. There were no problems we had fun. Thank goodness there is an establishment open til 2am on most nights. We've been there twice so far. Second time was more crowded and it was a good time, no fights and no super drunk people Bring quarters for pool, there's only 2 tables. People were nice enough to let us play instead of claiming a table for the night. I would give 5 stars if they had shuffleboard and more pool tables. Maybe open earlier also like 12 for those that want to spend a day off practicing their pool game.
