Wholly underwhelming bakery. We waited in a reasonably long line to grab a few pastries for the day, and they were not particularly good. The "croissants" were not folded in any way and shied us away from picking any up, while the pastries that we did get (including the cheese stick) were a bit dense and just displeasing. I'm not sure what the long line was for (although the Tim Horton's had a pretty long line as well), but I would not recommend a return visit. read more

This bakery is so quaint! The location is perfect because it's right by the hotels, lodges, stores, and restaurants... very convenient. The staff was very helpful in helping me decide on what to order (although I was seriously craving a donut and was sad when I saw that they didn't have any lol). Anywho, the chocolate hazelnut Danish is as good as it sounds.... So fresh, perfect amount of sweetness, and pretty large! Loved every bite. The chocolate hazelnut cookie (see a pattern? Lol) was crunchy but chewy and nicely dense! Big chunks of chocolate.. sooo good. I ordered a plain coffee so they gave me an empty cup and let me choose from the selection they had/ self serve cream and sugar. Overall, this place is pretty good. Not amazing, but yeap! Pretty good. I ordered the White Chocolate Raspberry tarte and a Nanaimo bar. I probably liked the White Chocolate Raspberry tarte better than the Nanaimo bar but it was actually my first time trying a nanaimo bar. But honestly, I don't really have much to say, other than it was pretty good. Service is okay here. If you plan on ordering anything to go, they don't have plastic utensils here! Holy man is this place popular! Now it might only have been because the weather was weird that weekend and couldn't make up its mind between cold and hot, that everyone was grabbing coffee and pastries but I don't think so. They have a great selection of baked good from savory cheese sticks to sweet lemon bars. We went in around 11:30am on a Saturday and it looked like a hoard of hungry tourist had already been through with a bunch of items being sold out. They had all the ovens going and would have been great to get items as they come out hot and fresh. As it was we all got a drink to go - London Fog and add coconut syrup for the win! One of us had a scone (crumbly in a good way) and the other 2 had a bar. One was lemon cranberry and the other raspberry coconut square, and I am not that into sweet things but hardly had chance to offer everyone a taste before I decimated my square. The line up was a little insane and the guys behind the counter go at a hundred miles to keep up. But absolutely worth the wait in line and I would do it all over again right now for another square. read more

We had a bearclaw and muffin because the cinnamon buns were sold out and two cups of coffee. The pastries were terrible, dry and stale. The coffee was burned and acidic. After spending some time in Jasper we were going to drive to Calgary and so we decided to pick up some baked goodies for our car ride. This is possibly one of the most popular bakery in jasper so we were kind of excited. First and foremost we didn't feel that the options were that exciting. We got pizza pretzel, a scone, a butter tart and rum ball. All of them were average , nothing out of the ordinary or exceptional. This place seemed to be very popular as every time i pass by in the morning, there is always a line up so i tried it one afternoon. Theres not much pastries/baked goods left since it is already late. I tried the biscotti. I did not like it. Bland and on the soft side. Biscotti is usually a little hard. Coffee is ok. The cashier seemed to be in a bad mood too. This getting 3/5 is going off fond memories. The bakery has always had good stuff however the last few times we have gone I have not been overly impressed. The cinnamon buns, muffins and breads we bought have been so so. But we do keep going because back in the day this place was amazing! I suppose this place can be called the mother ship when compared to its other location The Other Paw, located just two blocks away. Both locations bake their own stuff but I found this one to have a better selection of baked goods behind the counter. Also both locations have tables and chairs, but The Other Paw has a lounge area in the rear for a more relaxed atmosphere. We left Jasper really early and found Bear Paw Bakery in our Lonely Planet guide book. Really glad they were open at 6am. This spot is cash only. We had an iced americano (tasted fine). As for pastries, I had the raspberry white chocolate scone. It was crispy on the outside and super moist on the inside. My husband had the cinnamon roll. It would of been nice if it was heated but we saw the microwave and heated it up ourselves. Overall great fresh goods. read more

AMAZING bakery items. Came here twice. Ordered the Bear Paw, Hazelnut croissant, an egg sandwich, a ham and cheese sandwich, and hot chocolate. All were excellent quality, hence the second visit. I would recommend coming early in the morning (at about 9.30 or so) because they run out of bakery items, especially the sandwiches, very fast due to the high demand. My husband and I came here to grab coffee and something light to eat in the morning. After reading a few yelp reviews, I was tempted to get a white chocolate raspberry scone. My husband got a 'Meet the Greek', which is a sandwich with spinach and feta. The white chocolate raspberry scone certainly lived up to the hype. The Meet the Greek' was good too! For drinks, we ordered a cappuccino and latte and both hit the spot. My only gripe is, warming up the goodies are self service, which is okay, but there's a line for that on busy days. You order the goodies in one end and the drinks at the other order. Kinda messy with patrons walking all around the coffee shop. You walked in wanting a good breakfast snack, you leave with enough to fuel your entire day. This place is a MUST for any breakfast/snack pitstop. Whether you are staying in Jasper for a day or a week. Breakfast needs to purchased here. But be warned this place gets stupid busy most mornings so be patient in line. The staff do a great job of getting everyone served promptly. Two words - sausage rolls! For an expat Aussie missing home, Canada sure does deliver a good dose of Australian comfort food! My only gripe is the sausage rolls here are served cold and you have to nuke them in the microwave to get them up to eating temperature which then makes the pastry soggy...booooo! The white chocolate raspberry scone is heavenly, and I also love their croissants and cinnamon buns!! They make really delicious bread as well, and have a good variety. You can get day olds for discounted prices if you come in the morning. For a beverage, I enjoy their mochas, made with chocolate milk!! They have sandwiches and sausage rolls as well, so if you're going to be out and about site seeing, it's not a bad idea to pick up some snacks for later. After reading all the great reviews, taste of the food and coffee here was disappointing. Bear Paw bun was mediocre, cheese stick tasted like made by stale cheese, spicy sausage roll was bland, the breakfast sandwich was also bland. Americano was bitter. The sandwiches we packed for our hike: turkey sandwich was again blend, could benefit with a smear of Dijon. The sandwich bread was nothing to write home about. The vegetable sandwich was so boring, my husband got into a bad mood after eating it. Given the lack of choice in the town, especially in early morning hours, we might have still packed food from here, but would have bought less, skipped the coffee and known in advance that these are just to replenish our energy but totally not for the taste buds. Traveling to Jasper from Banff, having such great experience from the Wild Flour bakery, Bear's Paw was not on the same level. Buy from here, but don't expect too much. read more

This coffee shop and bakery in Jasper is a nice casual place to hang out. The mocha chino was good as it was not too hot and not too sweet. My sandwich however tasted day old but they had it in with the regular sandwiches. The bread was soggy and veggies were soft. They wrap their sandwiches way too tight so your bread will get mushy even if it is not day old and everything is squished. They have a large assortment of squares and muffins but they are pretty fatty but tasty. The two round tall tables are unstable. We spilled both our coffees. Very annoying!!! For a coffee shop you think they would use some common sense and ensure tables are steady. read more
