But what I don't like not a tiny bit is that even when there are various waves, people still register in the first ones for runners when they are walkers. This makes the competition super hard and slow for true racers :( There won't be any difference on the final board if starting on last wave... At the end there is a party at Seattle Center with music and beer. Wish at list 1 cup would be for free as in other races.

Snowflake Lane in Bellevue is a magical holiday experience, especially for families with kids. The…read morelights, music, dancers, drummers, and falling "snow" create a really festive atmosphere, and the fact that it's free makes it even better. Kids love the candy and characters, and it truly feels like a special holiday tradition. That said, it does get very crowded, especially on weekends, and you'll want to arrive early to get a good viewing spot. Traffic and parking can be a bit hectic around showtime, and it can get cold standing outside, so dress warmly. Overall, it's a fun and memorable holiday event that's worth seeing at least once -- and even better if you go on a weekday and plan ahead.

We've lived in Issaquah for over 7 years but never participated in the wine walk. There are a few…read moreaspects I feel could be improved, but I would participate again in the future. First, we attended the VIP event at Capri cellars at 5pm. They had the tables nicely arranged with three wines waiting for everyone attending, along with water/cups, some snacks, souvenir drinking glass, and wine tote. The workers at Capri were very friendly and hospitable. When they began we were given information about the types of wine before us- Peyrassol. A lady spoke about the history of these wines and maps distributed for us to view regarding their locations, as well as a timeline of information. At one point someone stated for guests to grab some more snacks then realized they had run out. I hadn't seen many of the guests grabbing food and my husband said there wasn't a large display so running out of food for those attending the VIP event was a bit surprising. The couple sitting across from us wanted to know if there were any additional perks of being VIP for the remainder of the night... I said I believed all of the VIP perks were from 5-6pm. The lady asked me if we got to try any VIP wines while participating in the walk. I said I didn't believe so but she should make suggestions if she feels she could improve on the experience. After we left Capri Cellars my husband and I discussed the VIP event for $40 extra. We did agree (especially since we aren't big history buffs) there should be something extra in addition to the three small Peyrassol tastings, wine tote and glass, small amount of snacks and history lesson. We agreed there should be some included wines VIPs could use their ten tickets for that others would have to use double tickets for or have to pay extra to sample. Therefore there are additional perks to paying for the VIP wine walk tickets. Later on we found out with friends we met up with for the wine walk from 6-9pm that when they checked in they were given tokens that could allow each person a double pour of any wine they desired along with their ten tickets. This token was not something VIPs were given at the beginning of the night. That seems like it should be given to everyone- not just those attending the second part of the event. Second some of the locations were pretty spread out. There was some rain but every wine tasting was located inside a local business- the minor rain didn't bother us, but the longer distance to walk to every place while we wanted to get back to some we had already sampled, wasn't super easy before 9pm. Third, I struggle drinking red wine bc it causes bad headaches so I'm mostly a white wine girl. I was surprised and disappointed how many white wines overall there were to choose from from all the wine tasting stations. Fourth, overall the prices of the wines (red and white) were very reasonable. The average cost for a bottle of wine ranged from mid $20s to upper $30s- with some outliers less than $20 and some in the $50s. Fifth, volunteer door monitors did a nice job of making sure attendees drank their samples before walking back out onto the streets since open alcohol in WA is against the law. Sixth, one winery- Sin Banderas Wines- was pushed out of their location at Juniper Capital earlier than 9pm because the owner of the building was leaving and everyone had to be out. It was a huge bummer as we had wanted to return to sample more wines, but caught them on their way out with grimaces on their faces. The door monitor told us they were forced to take down their table early because they had to leave the building. Our favorites of the night were: *Contrivance Wine and Mead- "Cabernet Sauvignon", "Riesling" *Genoa Cellars- "Flying Colors Super-Tuscan Red Blend", "The Boom Cabernet" *Sin Banderas Wines- "Dessert Mourvèdre Syrah" (wasn't listed on the insert but that was the first time they were providing samples of it) *Sky River Mead- "Sky River Chamomile Mead" (and we've visited them in Woodinville and have enjoyed a few other meads but they didn't have those there that night) *Tattoo Girl- "Tattoo Girl Riesling"

South Lake Union or SLU Block Party is an annual summer event that takes place at Denny Park in…read moreWest Lake. It is a cool free concert gathering in the park with music going on throughout the day, food trucks and a beer tent. The concert space is fenced off as it shares space with the beer tent, so 21+ to get in. The park is centrally located around a bunch of other restaurants and pubs in the area if the food trucks lines are too long or are just not to your liking. This years SLU line up had a some local or otherwise lesser known bands. The Smoky Brights and Moondoggies as the headliner toward the end of the evening. Having never heard of these bands, I found the Smoky Brights to be better than the headliners. The crowd showed up, including some real dedicated fans rocking 'Moondoggie' T-shirts so they definitely have a following. The party was good. You had grifting vendors going around with light up toys, overpriced small can beer, about 5 food trucks to choose from and security all around including those checking ID to get in the park. There were some SPD patrols hanging out so it felt alright walking about. You can sign up to be a vendor although I didn't see anyone there selling anything beyond food and drinks and there are several sponsors for the event, chief among them Amazon of course. Overall I think it's cool and would come back. It's free music, and if it's a band you happen to know or have heard about, even better.

I went to South Lake Union Block Party this year, and found that there were some changes made to…read morethe event from previous years. Unfortunately, they no longer have a Burger Competition, where five different South Lake Union eateries provide sliders, in hopes of winning the best burger in South Lake Union. It was one of the highlights of my time here in the past, so was sad to see this no longer happened. Instead, of the burger competition - they have a Food Truck Alley, but the problem was that there were only about five food trucks for hundreds of people, so long lines everywhere. My friends and I decided to skip out on the food trucks and eat at a restaurant nearby. The beer garden is no longer hosted by Brave Horse Tavern, so doesn't have a lot of variety in local beers. You have two Fremont beers, PBR, Rainier and a rose. Also note that for the lines - they do not indicate which line/cashier accepts card or which is cash only. When my friend and I got to the cashier he told us to go to the line next to us because they had the ability to accept card, so a bunch of people ended up cutting the people who were already standing in the long card line. An improvement of the event seems to be the music. They had a series of live bands playing at the main stage, which was nice, and made for a lively time. Just remember it's super loud from the beer garden so speaking to friends can be difficult. Overall, if you're already in the area - check it out. It used to be one of my favorite summer festivals and would make the trek from Bellevue for it, but can't say I would again if there were other events going on. (Bummerz.)

There is also a merch stand, bathrooms, and of course, betting options for those betting. You can easily view the winner's circle and the live trumpeteer.

There is a narrow trail that you can follow and eventually make a complete loop. We skipped it and went back through the wide gravel trail up to the festival. The festival is cute with little number of vendors. I think I just saw one food vendor and another with ice cream. The line was moving fast. But there are various tables were you can eat your own food. Bring an umbrella for the sun. You will like yo sit along the circle in the middle to watch the pinnacle of the party! When they push up a wood post covered with flowers that they bring while dancing and playing music. You can also dance and make flower tiaras :) Discovery was useful for parking.

Very hot this year, it was my first time attending, so I didn't know to bring extra water and an…read moreumbrella for the sun, I felt so drowsy from the heat afterwards. I enjoyed watching the folk dances and listening to the folk music. There wasn't much to buy, eat, or drink at the festival. I thought the pastries were really good and very memorable though! I've never had those Scandinavian pastries before, too bad I don't remember the names, and they were all sold out even before the pole holstering ceremony, so I didn't get to bring any home. They were very good though and reasonably priced. I especially enjoyed the flower crown making at the festival. I am very impressed with the lively spirit in which the organizers of the event had, they dressed themselves in heavy Scandinavian transitional outfits... it was so hot, I didn't know how they managed. I very much enjoyed looking at their clothes. There was no cover, so I got super sick from standing and sitting in the heat. I didn't manage to stay for the group dance, but I am glad I at least stayed long enough to see the post being fully lifted. Great event!
