We had dinner at the bar this past weekend. We had a reservation but the OpenTable App went down. We were told by the hostess to dine in the bar at the open table in view from her area. We sat at that open table and the server came over and questioned why we were there. When I told her the hostess told us to sit there, she matched over and had words with the hostess. The hostess came over and said many people are waiting for the table and moved us to the actual bar. The server was not seen again. The bartender said she had asked to get cut for the night. There were no guests waiting and the table sat empty and in view of the hostess, for the entire time we were there. The bartender said he would service the tables if the waitress had left. Overall, the initial service was less than gracious. Our bartender Matt was incredibly polite and was so warm and welcoming. He made suggestions and accommodated special requests easily. The dinner menu is not extensive but diverse enough to please everyone. We all loved our meals. The room is large but feels cozy. Warm lighting and natural colors create and very comfortable space. I usually stop into Beatrix for breakfast which is great. This was my first time having dinner here. Both were delicious. Honestly shoutout to Beatrix! We were looking for a good brunch option and we managed to snag a last minute reservation to this place and I have no idea how. We still had to wait probably about 15-20 minutes to be seated but thats way shorter than most places trying to get brunch on a Saturday morning. I got their dulce de leche latte, and while it was good, it didn't really have a dulce de leche flavor. To eat, I got the breakfast sandwich with hashbrowns. The sandwich was delicious and the hashbrowns are great. Overall, we were super impressed with the food, and had a great meal. I ate here twice and had drinks once with the husband because it was in the lobby of our hotel. It was busy and full and had a steady line and wait list each time and I loved the seating layout and playlist they had going. My breakfasts were lemon blackberry pancakes with scrambled eggs (day 1), and the overnight oats superfood situation (day 2). Though they had a coffee bar and full coffee shop menu, we opted for drip coffee, which hit the spot (and included refills). There were three pancakes, but they were light and fluffy and I was able to clear them all with no problem. Partly because I was tired and hungry after a 6am flight from NC and mostly because they were delicious and I wanted to shove every last crumb in my face! The playlist was mostly fun 80's stuff both mornings we were there, which lent a peppy wake-up vibe to start the day. I can't remember the music from our pre-dinner cocktails as we were meeting with a group of almost 20 before we departed for an event dinner elsewhere and I was enjoying my rose and conversations. Our servers each time were super nice and one even told me where the closest CVS was when I realized I had forgotten to pack my face lotion. My only recommendation would be to make a reservation! Had I known or had we pre-planned, we would have, but since we were there relatively early for the breakfasts, we only had to wait about 20 minutes each morning. We stopped in for Saturday brunch with our kiddo. They have a large menu with a lot of approachable options - pancake, waffle, breakfast sandwich, burgerm and so much more! We had trouble picking what we wanted. They have a kids menu and had crayons to entertain our little one and there were many other kids there. The restaurant is lively, with a coffeehouse, bakery, and hotel lobby attached, so lots of people coming in and out. We ended up ordering the bacon egg and cheddar sandwich, ranchero breakfast burrito, and lemon pancakes. Our favorite was probably the lemon pancakes, which were light and fluffy. Everything else was a little bland. The bacon egg and cheddar sandwich was on a brioche bun. The egg was nice and fluffy, but the flavors didn't really come together. Same with the breakfast burrito, which was also smaller than I expected. Both of these dishes fell a little flat. They weren't neceasssarily bad, but did fall below our expectations. My friend got the friend for the fried chicken burger, the burger almost melted in his mouth. The meat was crunchy on the outside and smooth on the inside. My mother ordered the eggs your way, with scrambled eggs and chicken sausage. I ordered the lemon pancakes. We shared all the food. The pancakes were the star of the show!! Service was quick and friendly but it did take awhile for us to be seated. It was a bit busy. I'll be the first to admit that after many years of traveling for consulting work, hotel restaurants are not my favorite. With that said, Beatrix is one of the better (albeit casual) restaurants I've been to in a hotel. I've stopped by for brunch, lunch, and now dinner - I will have to visit again for their 8 pm "clear the case" deal sometime. On a Friday night, it was bustling - lots of families. Our party of 5 did have a reservation, otherwise it may have been a little wait for a table. To start, I tried one of their mocktails called Say Less, which was very good but a little overpriced. For dinner, I got the mushroom quinoa burger, which was tasty just slightly dry. I would pass on the fries next time and opt for a different side. Overall, service was pretty good and everything came out in a reasonable time. It was super salty and sour, but I didn't send it back because we had a pretty inattentive waiter, and it took forever to get our food in the first place. Great brunch spot! They have a really good variety of coffee/espresso drinks as well as a lengthy brunch menu that was super reasonably priced. I was going to between the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and the ham and cheese croissant. I went with the croissant and am so glad I did. It wasn't just a simple sandwich as I expected but a croissant loaded with ham and cheese inside as well as topped with additional cheese. It was really, really good, as was the cinnamon sugar latte l, and the croissant even came with a little arugula salad. I'm not usually an arugula person but had a really good flavor and littler peppers or something in it that it was really a true salad. Stopped here for brunch with 2 friends when we were visiting Chicago. We arrived at 11 and were informed that the kitchen closes between 11-11:30 so we'd have to wait a bit. We considered heading somewhere else but by then it was close to 11:30 anyway so we decided to grab coffee and wait. At the coffee bar I tried the banana bread cold brew. I liked it but it had more of a straight banana flavor than banana bread. At the restaurant, we tried these items from the lunch menu: - Kennebec fries - these were delicious. Crispy, salted well, and the lemons/chilis complemented them perfectly. - Korean chicken meatballs - also delicious. They were moist and the caramel gochujang sauce was incredible. - Turkey smashburger - I wanted to try this because turkey burgers are often too dry and dense, and a smashburger version sounded like it would solve those issues, which it did. The turkey patties were moist and flavorful, which is something I never thought I'd say about a turkey burger. The portion size was huge so unfortunately I was only able to eat half before I got full, but I enjoyed every bite. Service was great at both the coffee bar and the restaurant, and I really liked the combination of both spaces. One of my friends actually spent the day working in the coffee shop seating area after our meal, and she really enjoyed it. Highly highly recommend this place if you're looking for good fusion food, especially if you don't eat red meat like myself or are vegetarian. I rarely see so many entrees I can eat, especially at places with small menus like this, so that was really awesome. And it also makes a great WFH space. read more

The bar stools were super comfortable, such that we ended up extending our happy hour onto dinner and sat for four hours! So I switched to the old fashioned which was also on happy hour special. I'd expected it to be weak for the happy hour price but it was quite strong and delicious. Food: ***** Wow! First, the appetizers and burgers were cheaper for happy hour. We started with the fries and guac apps. We were both surprised at how much guac there was. I didn't try any but my friend enjoyed it. The fries were excellent. Served with sliced red hot peppers, some chili flakes, crispy sweet lemon slices, and aoili. The hot peppers were easy to avoid and the chili flakes were just the right amount of heat to add some interest to the fries without feeling spicy to me. I had dinner plans elsewhere which fell through. When we realized that we had extra time, my friend recommended the mushroom and quinoa burger. I hadn't tried a veggie burger in years because too many seem to be primarily rice or some other starch. These burgers were definitely the best vegetarian burgers I've had. Crispy with a highly satisfying charred crunch. The flavor of the mushrooms came through in a lovely umami way, but none of the sogginess of other mushroom burgers because the crisped quinoa provided the perfect texture. Pairing well with the mushrooms, the Swiss cheese augmented the flavors and added a creamy mouthfeel to the burger. Fries for the burgers didn't have any the fancy additions to the appetizer, but came with more aioli and ketchup. Four hours flew by in a heartbeat between old friends catching up, cozy atmosphere, comfy seats, a solid buzz, and too notch food. Can't wait to return!! read more
