This is an adorable breakfast spot. It's in an old house with dining on all 3 stories. I was surprised to have a very short wait on a Sunday. Staff were super friendly. They kept the water and coffee refilled and were very efficient with getting the food out. I had the French toast combo and my friend had the Crochette madam which was savory and delicious. Everything was yummy and portions were generous!

Quick seating...faster expectations on the part of the staff for you to order. They definitely work to turn the tables! Food was great, coffee was scarce (had to ask for refills), and the service whip-fast. Quaint, comfortable, and definitely worth a visit.

Just looked on Yelp for a place for a Sunday midday breakfast near our hotel and found Sunny Side Up. A pleasant walk to a lovely brownstone. A few steep steps up into the restaurant or else they did have sidewalk dining. My mother had the standard Chicago breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon, I had the eggs benedict. All was delicious. Lively place and service was fast and pleasant.

We were in the area over the labor day holiday, so this is a late review, but it's definitely owed. We looked up brunch and breakfast spots near our hotel -- and had a high expectation of long waits and not much availability. We walked to the Sunny Side Up restaurant, were greeted, and seated within 10 minutes. During what would be a Saturday breakfast rush... Our waitress Angie was very high energy, very friendly, very attentive, and I can't say enough good things about our experience with her. Frankly, the fact that I remember her name a month plus later, should be all that needs to be said. I ordered the southern benedict, some coffee, and OJ. My meal was delicious. My girlfriend had some pancakes with bacon, and she said it was also very good. We were pleased with our breakfast experience here, would definitely check it out if we're in the area visiting again.

What a quaint spot. The architecture inside is beautiful. The food is AMAZING. Had the stuffed brioche French toast with side of sausage links ...SOOOO good. Definitely will return at our next visit. Thanks for the attentive service !!

5/24/25 Walked to breakfast on a busy Memorial Day weekend. As a group of 5 we waited about 5-7 mins for a free table. When we walked out, the line was out the door. It is an old building and therefore not ADA accessible. However, if you can make up a few stairs, you could request the downstairs level. Restrooms are on the second floor. Food was great and staff were wonderful.

After searching far and wide for a breakfast spot without a wait on a Sunday morning we stumbled across Sunny Side Up! I think we just beat the rush because it filled up quickly. This is a 4 story home converted into a breakfast spot so be ready to climb some stairs. The service was quick and great! We both had a croque madame and the kids got a kids breakfast. Everything. Was delicious! Definitely recommend!

Decent burger for lunch in this cute, cramped little cafe. Makes do with a tight space but food is just good enough.

Not a bad spot at all. I enjoyed the food, but the eggs were runny for what I ordered. Other than that, not bad. The only unfortunate thing was when we ordered, we got 2 sodas and a different guy brought our food out. We never got our sodas until I had to get the attention of the waiter. Usually you get your drinks before the food. I understand if it were busy, but when we ordered, only 2 tables were seated and one already had their food.

We wanted to find a fun spot for breakfast and this place caught my eye on Yelp. For a Monday morning, they were busy! Thankfully, our party of 5 was able to be seated right away. We had to walk up two flights of stairs but they do have seating outside on the street. Our waitress was awesome. So attentive and catered to the two kids in our party well. I opted for the avocado toast for my meal and it was really good! Another in my party enjoyed the Florentine Skillet, though my sister thought the regular Benedict was okay. I found a few things on the menu I'd like to try. They don't have any iced coffee options, so I opted for iced tea during a warm Chicago morning. My nieces really enjoyed the s'mores pancakes, which our waitress offered to have come in a kid-size portion. So nice! I'd totally go back here if I get to visit Chicago again!

Brief wait, efficient and friendly staff. Probably 2 groups n front of us on a Friday afternoon, with less than a 5 min wait. We walked upstairs 2 flights to the top floor, which wasn't a problem for us. Our servers and floor staff were friendly and attentive, always refilling coffees and water. We got the southern breakfast and special item PB&J French toast with pork sausage, bacon & fresh fruit for our sides; everything was delicious, well-portioned, flavored and timely. Would definitely come back!

Honestly I would still recommend this place even with the rate I have given. I think I just had a bad experience. My server was amazing and none of it was on her, but there was this one staff literally yelling to other staff members throwing off the essential vibes of a cool relaxing brunch. Portions? I love corn beef I would not recommend getting it. There was basically no meat, and underneath the egg looked exactly like the small pieces of meat to the side. I wish I would have snapped a photo after I lift the egg. Ahhh the egg asked for my egg to be over hard and that thang was leaking like waterworks. The toast was so hard I couldn't eat it. I must say tho the coffee was great and the photos are breathtaking

Ask the Community - Sunny Side Up Breakfast & Lunch

Is there a long wait Sunday mornings - any call ahead or get in line app used?

No, we went at about 9am and it was no line but it did get really busy while we were there. So it will depend on the time you go.

    Do they take reservations?

only for parties of 6 or more on weekdays

    Is this location BYOB?

    Yes

Are pets allowed on the outdoor seating?

    Yes

What's the wait on a Sunday morning?

Of course the sooner you are there, the better, as the line will grow. If you are there later on, the wait could be 40 min or so. But still worth it.

The staff were really welcoming, for an early morning. I got the hot chocolate. Honestly that's exactly what I needed that morning. It had that real Mexican chocolate taste. Thick, creamy, smooth and rich. The cinnamon came through warm but not too strong, plus a little extra on top that hit your nose before the first sip. Sweet and it almost had this slight earthy note too... hard to explain but good. It even had that little design on top, like the ones they do on cappuccinos. Didn't expect that but it was cool. I finished it slow. Didn't wanna rush it. Just sat there taking small sips and enjoying it while it was still hot.

I was honestly too hungry to spend much time deciding, so I just ordered one of the sourdough donut ball. It was exactly what I was hoping for. The outside had a light coating of sugar that gave it just the right amount of sweetness without being too much. Once I bit into it, the inside was soft, airy, and slightly chewy from the sourdough, which made it different from a regular donut. There was a subtle tang from the sourdough that balanced the sweetness really well, so it never felt overly sugary. It had a light crispness on the outside, then a warm, pillowy center that practically melted away with each bite. I finished it way faster than I expected. The only thing I forgot was ordering something to drink with it. Looking back, a good coffee would've made it even better. Still, I'd definitely stop by again the next time I'm in the area.

Set in an old warehouse that is now an art gallery event space and restaurant nestled in an older warehouse district in Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. Beautiful decor and laid out perfectly. The natural wood floors furniture ie tables chairs etc and iron work throughout sets the ambiance for old meets new. It works. The wide spacing between tables makes for a comfortable dining experience. So many folks come in to do their work and dine here. What a super addition to the neighborhood that less than a decade ago was essentially a street that was more a run down semi-truck alley. Great menu with neighborhood favorites leaning toward the old school Italian dishes. Sandwiches, soups, salads, and breakfasts just to name a few are all excellent. The pastries are insane and a must take home deal. I love the American Breakfast. Three eggs your way, thick diced America potatoes, thick cut bacon, and sourdough toast. Accompanied by what I believe to be home made jelly and for sure homemade gardiniera. Caruso's gardiniera actually. Diced into a relish unlike most standard gardiniera it's easier to eat with many dishes. Excellent flavor and just the right kick to it. FYI Dolce Arte also sells a to go line of homemade Caruso products from their gardiniera to past and past sauces and more. Yes, their coffee is really good too. Lavazza products I believe. The service is always on point. Casual but on point. Very friendly staff from diverse backgrounds. This is the place you bring people close to you, business lunches, meetings, formal ir informal, or like me, save it for myself as my own getaway spot. It's an artists dream and sets a positive time for any gathering.

I bravely went for the latin-inspired latte flights, consisting of Mexican mocha, Coquito, horchata, and cafe de Olla. My favorite out of these four was the coquito because of the coconut pieces, which blended well with the latte. I know it sounded silly, but I enjoyed chewing these coconut flakes and they were good palate cleansers! The presentation was da bomb as well. The only reason that I couldn't give five stars to "Stockyard" was limited seating. The place was super cute, but there were only 3 tables and less than 4 high chair seating against the windows, plus some outdoor seating on the pedestrian walkway. The laptop users were respectfully directed to sit at the windows and outlets were available. The baristas were friendly and knowledgeable. I asked the details of the latte flight and they explained the offerings. I thought there was only one type of latte flights, but I believe the one I selected was very much suited to my preferences. "Stockyard Coffeehouse" is accessible via routes CTA 44 (Racine/Wallace) and CTA 8 (Halsted) busses. It's great to have a reliable indie coffeeshop in the neighborhood like this, so keep up the good work!
