The photos took me back to that moment and I remembered how beautiful and confident I felt... and it was all thanks to Jill. I have had my hair and makeup done by several makeup artists before and I pretty much know if someone is good or not. Jill's technique is the best that I've seen so far. You will never look overdone and cakey; you will just look like the best version of yourself. I am also very particular about contour and I really loved how she did my nose and cheeks. Jill did an amazing job on my makeup and hair for my photo shoot. In search of a makeup artist in SGV, I came upon Jill. I read Felicia C.'s review in detail and was so taken by her words of praise, I called Jill right away. I left a message and she called me back the same day. We made arrangements and she later followed up with an invoice. $100 for hair and makeup. Great! On the day of our appointment, she met me at my home, on time, and spent a little over an hour to do everything. Jill and I had a great chat. She made me feel very comfortable with the whole makeup application and hair styling process. I admit I was very nervous. It was the first time I ever hired a makeup artist. For the photo shoot, I wanted a natural look and Jill did just that. No crazy colors, just warm, neutral colors to match my skin tone. My face was flawless. Then she worked on my hair. Seeing Jill C. and her ROTD on the front page of Yelp reminded me of something very important today: I gotta write a review for Jill. No, not one of those "she's awesome!" reviews (although she is awesome), but a real full fledged review. She deserves one! For those that don't know, Yelp's beloved Jill C. not only has mad skillz (note the use of the "z" in skillz - that's how mad they are) in writing Yelp reviews, but she's also got skillz in makeup and hair. Makeup, I'm not so familiar with (although you can check out her portfolio online - it's pretty good from what I've seen), but hair...I can talk hair. My company holiday party is always a fun event, not only because of the free flowing alcohol, but because it also gives me a reason to dress up and feel girly again (before I enter the dreaded busy season wardrobe of drab business clothes). I found a totally cute dress and wanted hair to match, but didn't want to spend too much getting it done. (I mean, who am I trying to impress? My coworkers? Pfft...) Enter Jill. She came over to my house to do my hair (for a small gas/mileage fee - totally understandable seeing that she drove almost 30 miles to get to my place), so it was totally convenient for me. She worked with my availability, so scheduling was a breeze too. Her prices were super reasonable - I spent in total (for the updo, the mileage fee, and tip) what regular salons would have started at. Most importantly, my hair looked awesome when it was done. I am not sure what happened because based on her reviews my daughter chose her. We went to the trial. She was doing hair and make up for my daughter and me for her wedding. I am sorry but she didnt listen to anything we were saying about her hair and honeslty she threw a few curls in my hair then teased them out, weird.... she didnt touch my bangs. My daughters face was ok, but I looked like a ghost with big eyebrows! Her attitude was like she didnt care..... i just paid her the $275.00 she charged so I could get out of there. Jill is surely a force of nature when you meet her. She also charges the most reasonable rates I've seen around. She goes to your location (for a small fee) and gives you a discount if you are a yelper. My trial run was $45 (hair +makeup) and she came to me too. Wow huh? For the trial run: She was very prompt in getting to my house but had unintentionally forgotten her makeup kit. She was cool enough to drive back to where she left it and drive back to do my trial session. That left us in a bit of a hurry since she had to get to somewhere else as well... I can definitely say that she has a very confident hand in her makeup skills - deft, quick and just very at ease at her work. I think because of the time crunch, we didn't get much time to chat about styles that would work for me and so she put on what she thought looked good. It turned out well, but too dramatic for me and not the type of look I was going for for bridal makeup. When you pick your makeup artist, you should feel like the both of you can communicate, listened to and be able to bounce ideas off so that you can get your best look. The relationship with your vendors will vary, so pick someone you are most comfortable with. In the end, I decided to work with someone else because I think we didn't really communicate well together and I didn't want it to bother me the days leading up to the wedding day. I didn't feel like my wedding day was a priority for her as she had someone else booked that had some possible time overlaps and didnt tell me until i pressed her about it... the time slot she gave me wasn't very reasonable (for me). But all in all, Jill is a cool person to work with. I'd definitely recommend her but I also recommend that you speak up if what you want is not being met (like i had to). Oh.. and yes... I did mention that her rates are really really reasonable right (bridal makeup+ hair =$100, others are $80 for both)? Jill definitely deserves more than 5 stars. I booked Jill to be a hairstylist for three of my bridesmaids and one flower girl. She arrived on time (even in the rain!), and was very professional. My bridesmaids said they loved her, and her work was great. I am used to seeing hair "fall flat" or "lose the curl", but Jill's work did neither of the two. My wife went to Jill for her bridal makeup and was very happy with it every time. I am not kidding about the every time - due to strange family circumstances, we had 3 separate receptions a week apart. Jill takes her time to really understand what look you want. She even went through the trouble of showing my wife all the little ends and means of applying makeup, tone suggestions, color palette, etc. I was very appreciative of the fact that the makeup did not make my wife look like she was trying out for America's Next Top Model, and was not over the top.
