This is my favorite east bay beauty store, worth the drive wherever you are at in the bay area. I usually come here for a variety of things, but this is my go to shop whenever I need to restock on beauty items or am planning a vacation, travel, or headed to a music festival. This is also a great place to get gifts for your loved ones, in addition to your beauty, skin care, hair, care, and make up needs. The owners are very kind, professional, and can help you find whatever you need. They recently started selling these perfumes by etleé and they smell amazing. I finish the pistachio scent within two months lol. I ended up coming back to purchase six more as gifts and for myself. My bad for waiting until the last minute to buy my "hair" for box braids. I went to an unfamiliar store after showing homes in the area. It was getting late and my appointment for braids was the next morning so I looked up beauty supply store nearby on Yelp. I arrived quickly and knew exactly what I needed, so I walked in and scanned the store and walked straight to the hair section. No one greeted me or asked if I needed help. Well, there was one lady that worked there that followed me around uncomfortably from the moment I walked in. I went straight to the extensions and looked for my brand, color and length. I did not see it. ( they didn't have it). She was standing behind me and asked what I was looking for so I gave her the specifics. She said oh I know what you want and she pointed out a different brand but the length and similar color. I went with it simply because I ran out of time. Then I was browsing the makeup and gifts to see if I could take care of any Christmas gift items or something for myself. At that point I had not only her but another worker following me around! Like they thought I was going to steal! I gave up on the perusing and just bought the pack of hair. While I was waiting to pay, I noticed they were taking care of a customer that they knew, with warm greetings and "see you soon" I don't know if that's just how they treat old vs. new customer, but it was simply rude. Well, when I went to my hair stylist the next day, I showed her what I had to work with and she said, well this doesn't compare, so you may not be happy with the result. It felt very "plastic" to the touch and she had to cut many pieces that were just sticking out ( too stiff) She did the best she could so I have to live with it at least through Christmas. read more

They're customers service is horrible I got to packs of braiding hair she says it's $7 each pack I'm like okay the total should be around $16/17 with tax but how the hell did it end up with $20 cmon now. I enjoy browsing and buying. The owners are nice and helpful. The aisles are narrow but you can find anything for beauty, hair, beard, clippers, blowers, whatever. Prices are not the lowest but it's a one stop shop with product overload. As always, I LOVE free parking and nearby shopping. Do not leave valuables in your car. There's lots of shade wandering around peeking in cars. San Leandro PD is on scene now with lights flashing for real. read more

To whoever the owner is, check your manager ASAP. I witnessed a homeless woman walk into the store for all of 30 seconds and she was immediately chastised by your manager and staff, demanding that she empty out what she took. After berating her and him and the staff physically were holding her and looking through her clothing way past her rights, they finally deemed she had nothing and the manager let out a weak "sorry". The lady walked out in frustration and knocked some things over, then the manager grabbed her completely yelling in her face, almost shaking her by the shoulders. COMPLETELY inappropriate and I hope he feels disgusting for treating a homeless person like they were not even worthy of being in his store. Truly disgusting behavior and having someone in there like that is a liability. Picking on someone who you know can't defend themselves is disgusting. To yelp reviewers: this is the worst store I have ever shopped at or had the worst, humiliating experience. They only got one star, because of the inventory. I am an affluent, well-educated African American woman. My last visit to the store resulting in me almost totally losing it. With everyone having cameras, I finally pulled my self together and walked out - vowing never, ever to go in there again. It simply is not worth it in this day and age, rather use the great tool of yelp to share your views and just hope people value the input and resist supporting a business that treats customers so poorly. It started with them not being able to process my credit card - not because of no-funds, but they have old machines that work inconsistently. After assuring them my card had worked perfectly in every other store, I asked her to rerun the card. After 2 times, she commenced "yelling" at me because "their" machine is clearly old and rickety. I could have perfectly respected her apologies. What was totally unacceptable was the yelling. Yelpers, I BEG you not to support this store. Although these owners are Asian-Americans, had I treated them with the disrespect that they treated me, I would have been all over the news. I have noticed them talking to and treating other minorities, with similar disrespect. PLEASE do not patronize this store. The previous negative reviews are right on the money. So a few weeks I went into this Establishment with my little one when I got to the door there's a sanitizing station we stopped at the table to sanitize our hands. As I looked up I noticed all three employees looking at me for a good 10 seconds none of them greeting me or saying hello just staring at me. I brushed it off and continued to walk inside of the store. One store clerk immediately comes down from the register and walks in the same direction I'm walking in. Noticed that she starts fumbling with a couple of items in the aisle to look "busy" I stopped to ask her where the jam is located. She pointed to the next aisle. I walked down that aisle and started looking at the different sizes of jam and also the price, the price seems a little high but I was still willing to get what I needed. I looked over and the same store clerk is directly to my left once again fumbling with items placed on a table. This is when I started to feel uncomfortable. I assumed she was watching me which she was. I then walked towards her and got in line as soon as she saw me walking towards the line suddenly the items she had been fumble with were all of a sudden not important. I'm that moment I thought why would I spend my money here? Why would I let some judge me and make me feel so low and still give me hard earn money away to them. As she was walking pass me a hand her the item and said "Here you go, I don't want this. At that point me and my little one left the store. Terrible customer service! I stopped by Beauty Source on Nov 16 2014 to purchase some human hair. I have bought and have had bad experiences with Remi Velvet hair in past but I was insured that the Remi Velvet was the hair to buy & the hair would not matte, shed or severely tangle as it has in the past. Well it does all that & more. It's up there with the worst hair I've ever gotten. So I call Beauty Source to inform them about my terrible experience not necessarily expecting them to refund me but to at the very least empathize with my having spent nearly $200 at there store on bad hair that I have no use for. Instead of empathy I got crudeness. The guy that answered the phone was immediately defensive & was completely unwilling to be of any assistance to me. I asked them for the phone number to the Remi Velvet Company & they told me to "google" it. It was all so rude. That was the least they could do to help my situation. Stopped in today on a mission to find my mom a wig since she is undergoing her 2nd round of chemotherapy. Ana and Tommy were absolutely fantastic! My mom tried on several wigs and we were able to find one that closely resembles her look. The store got a bit busy, but the staff was able to take care of each customer as best as they could. Literally down the street from my daughter's dance studio, Beauty Source is a great place to save money on hair and beauty products. They have a wide selection and good prices. It was easy to get overwhelmed but the girl who helped us was patient and helpful in finding every specific item we needed. With Carnaval approaching, I will definitely be returning. So as a former regular customer, I used to be very excited going into that store to but my favorite oil and hair products. However, I've also had reoccurring issues with the elderly Asian lady and her bias towards me. Last year, I went in to the store one day when it was busy to buy some more oil and I proceeded to checkout. I pulled out my discount card the lady's son (who also works there) gave me for my items purchased. Without even looking at the card I have, she quickly dismissed anything I had to say & emphasized that it wasn't her card. (Clearly indicating that she thought I was trying to trick her). When I asked for one of their new store's discount card and held up my card and hers, I asked her the difference. Then she realized it was the same one I had all along. The second time was when me and my best friend tried on wigs and for a dollar, you can try on 3. So my friend and I took turns trying on wigs. After a certain amount of time of the elderly lady standing there looking at me, she went on emphasize to me as if I didn't know, " only 3 wigs you know". My friend quickly replied, "she's aware of that." We eventually left and I'm here to say also buying 3 items that were $60 but next door to Cvs for the same 3 items for $30 something dollars, let's me know I have no intentions of coming back to this beauty supply store. Being originally from the east coast, it has been hard for me to find any comparable beauty supply stores that sold African American products. I searched several places in the area(San Jose) and the only one that I would see is Sally's. But, then a friend told me about this place! I have to say, I was excited to come here and it was what i expected. The customer service is great. Although I felt like every isle I was in...someone was following me. LOL That made me feel a bit weird and they were trying to hide it. But, it was so apparent. Why are you asking me every 3 mins if I need help. I did buy like 300 dollars worth of beauty supplies!!! But ANY WAYS.. There was a guy there that had a great personality! I also was the last person in the store and they did not rush me. Instead they told me to take my time and look around. Which I thought was nice of them. Assuming that most place would rush you to finish so that they can leave. Overall, it was an good experience. Big selection of nail polish especially the sparkly type and any of the latest fads that are out they will have it, like crackle. I can always get a good flat iron or curling iron too. Their buckets of just different stuff like brushes, combs, nails items, etc. are always useful to go into and grab a few things. I have purchased 2 human hair wigs at Beauty Source and found the sales people to be very helpful, especially Annie. I went there again today looking for a particular kind/color of wig and the young woman who helped me was very patient and showed me several styles and colors. Let me preface this review by saying that I am a licensed cosmetologist and have never been treated this poorly in any other beauty supply store. I have come into this store pretty consistently since I moved into the area about two years ago. At first, I thought it was odd that someone I would always start restocking a fully stocked shelf right near me as soon as I went to any particular aisle. I hate to assume that I am being discriminated against, so I tested my theory out a few times. I have gone into this store with my daughter in her stroller, without the stroller, my daughter in my arms, her in my ergo carrier, with out my daughter, holding my wallet and phone only, nothing in hand and with a purse. I have been the only person in this store, I have been one of many people in this store, I have simply walked in and stood in one place and I always get the exact same treatment; I end up being watched like a hawk by no less than 3 employees. Well today I had enough, especially when I saw a woman who looked very different from me, walk over to the same section and NOT get followed. I refuse to be treated like a criminal over braiding hair. It costs $5 a pack. It has security tags and there are security cameras. Why do they always surround me?? I am a licensed cosmetologist and have given them a lot of business, not just from me, but I have also sent clients there. I am sickened to think that I have subjected my clients to this treatment. They know exactly who I am, because I frequent this store and they automatically give me the profession discount when I pay. I will NEVER send another client into this store, nor will this store ever receive another penny from me. They should be ashamed of themselves. read more

I purchased a wig here for the first time, wore it once and noticed that a front piece was unraveling in a way that was noticeable. I decided to take it back within 48 hours of purchase. They didn't have the same product in my color so I asked for a refund. Well, it was like pulling teeth to get one. They have a now refunds policy but to not stand behind a defective product is wrong. After basically standing there while the owner resisted giving me a refund, I got my refund, but it took her a very long time. I would not ever return. I understand not doing refunds but really if you cannot replace a defective product because you don't have a replacement, then just refund the money. read more

I go there all the time. I was there last week and purchased a ponytail. The owner of the store helped me out with the right color. I went home put the ponytail on. I noticed it was kind of tangled. I figure it would untangle and fall in place after a few days. By day two it was really tangled and looked like I had it for weeks. I spent $14.99 and was very upset. I went there today to purchase a different ponytail. This time the owner was busy so a lady helped me. She couldn't figure out the right color and asked my daughter to help. I said you should know you work here. I also mentioned about my last ponytail experience. She began to laugh and tell the other lady there in a different language. They began to laugh and the owner. I said that's not funny. I come here all the time. I happen to get a bad ponytail and you laugh at me?? That's not right. Then you speak your language and laugh.
