I have my 3 yr old malipoo seen there for shots and skin issues. The Staff is accommodating and the vet techs are great with my dog. Dr Hilton was easy to talk with about any issues my dog is having. Would recommend this animal practice. read more

Always a cheerful caring staff who has been very helpful with answering my questions and they all have been excellent with handling my " BUDDY ",(both name and companion) , as the precious family member he is 2 me! As a super energy spring legged bouncy boy, he can be a challenging handful and I have always had super duper help without having to ask even. Buddy loves going to the "DOCS " even after having surgery, (being neutered). I have some health issues that sometimes make basic things challenging for me and I have found this place(EVERY PERSON) very helpful during my many visits with my 3 dogs over 15 or 20 years. Our regular vet was out of the country when one of our ferrets got sick. Beaver Meadow took him in that day, even though he wasn't an established patient. They were fantastic, the doctor (I believe her name was Hilton, but I am so bad with names, sorry!) seemed very knowledgeable about ferrets, which is really hard to find. I am so happy we found Beaver Meadow, we will definitely be coming back. read more

Beaver Meadow has taken care of our dogs for over 17 years. We have been delighted with the care and kindness of the Vets, Techs and Staff. Our Husky was severely abused by a pervious owner and is very skittish with humans he does not know. The Vets and Staff at Beaver Meadow are so kind and patient with Loki and all our four dogs. We have also boarded our dogs at Beaver Meadow with excellent results. Dogs can be a bit unsettled when boarded and take a few days to get back to normal, but that was not the case when we left our four at Beaver Meadow. The care has always been excellent. We would not go anywhere else. read more

I'm not happy with this office at all. my dog was diagnosed with mild heart disease and a tooth infection . He was sent home with an injection of diuretic and antibiotic. He seemed to do better. He came back for a follow up and they said his white blood cells were up but his lungs were clear and he was doing well. The very next day he started coughing again and went down hill pretty quickly. I called several times to be showed off like I was paranoid and that He only had a small amount of fluid around his heart. after a few days my husband called and insisted we see the other vet . She told me his heart wasn't that bad and that he really didn't need the meds but I could keep giving it to him since he had a murmur all the while he's breathing rapid and hard. She said his xrays from the previous visit showed a suspicious pneumonia .... Gave him another shot of diuretic ( after I questioned her about his kidneys she said we need to balance it out ) More antibiotics and sent him home . Christmas Day I had to put my precious dog down at an Emergency vet because he had congestive heart failure and kidney failure ! My dog had suffered way too long and it wasn't pneumonia! Sure the vets were nice but they didn't listen and I knew my dog was dying ! Please do not take a critical sick dog to this office ! This is not the only time they misdiagnosed my dogs . Five years ago I brought my other dog in and ahe was diagnosed with arthritis but ended up being end stage renal failure and then they lost her ashes ! I can't believe I went back there. read more

On 7/23, Monkee was brought to Beaver Meadow to have a growth removed from her mouth and a skin tag removed from her shoulder. When we picked her up from surgery, no Dr brought Monkee out or explained what was done or how to care for her after surgery. She was handed over w/ a paper w/ generic instructions. I was in shock at the large sloppy glued together incision that was made.The incision started to leak blood and the next day it came apart to reveal a hole all the way down to her muscle. I called the vet and offered to send a pic, but was told it wasn't needed. As long as the hole wasn't oozing, it was ok and to wash it with dish soap. Monkee got worse and woke up the next day in extreme pain, unable to eat or move w/o screaming. Her face was swollen and she still had a hole in her shoulder. We called again and demanded to speak to the Dr. and sent a pic. She said things like this don't usually happen with such a simple procedure. We weren't offered pain meds/antibiotics, we had to ASK. In response to the pic, the Dr replied, yes, obviously the wound had become unsealed. She offered to have Monkee come in and put a staple in it, but unfortunately (fortunately) we don't live upstate full time and this was something that needed urgent attention. We collectively decided to bring Monkee to vet in Brooklyn and the Dr called there ahead of time to explain the situation + she covered the cost to fix it. Heart of Brooklyn Veterinary said it's much more than a quick staple. They put Monkee on antibiotics for a day, while we kept an eye on the wound by flushing it out every few hrs. Then they gave her stitches w/ a drainage tube. The tube was in for a week, the stitches came out a week later. The Dr at Beaver Meadow stated she's not sure how the hole got so big or why Monkee has numerous ulcers in her mouth. I ask, if you were in the room / performed the surgery, how could you not know? I am not a person who writes bad reviews, however, this is my dog and the pain she went through is unforgivable. I would like an explanation because I've yet to receive one. I would also like to pass on awareness to others. read more

These people really care about your pet. They took us for a weekend appointment(Sunday) for an emergency and we had never been there before. There charges were standard and very reasonable. They showed great compassion and understanding of what was happening. They are very professional and caring. I would strongly recommend Beaver Meadow. read more

Our pets have been patients for a few years now. We are very pleased with the care they have received. The facility is well kept and staff friendly. The only negative is that they are expensive. Difficult for families on a fixed budget. read more

Jan. 6, 2014. My name is Karen Deragon & I live in Poland, NY. My family's vet clinic of choice for the last 6+ years has been Beaver Meadow. I started taking our beloved dog, Wookie, there when Judith & Steven Burton owned and operated the clinic. Loved them- so friendly & personable, you could tell they cared about your pet. Since Dr. Burton retired two years ago and the clinic's been operating under the supervision of Dr. Diana Ostrander the place has turned from caring for your pet to just a chart with a number and bilking you for every nickel they can possibly get out of you. Our new dog, Nanook, was only 2 years old and needed ACL surgery for a torn knee ligament in Oct. 2013. After being told by Dr. Diana that "knock on wood" she's done the procedure 5-6 times with good luck, she stated she could do it. (Since the referring Dr. Bookbinder that does all the ACL repairs was out on medical leave for 8 weeks. It was either make my dog wait 2 months to have her leg repaired or have Dr. Diana do it). We decided to have her do the surgery. After 7 weeks and $1600.00 plus, our dog was still not using her leg and after calling the clinic for additional information I was told to just put her back on her anti-inflammatory pills for 2 weeks. They did not tell me to bring her back in for a re-check of the leg. During that time, early Dec. our dog developed an open sore on the incision site from the surgery. After I called and asked to bring her in to be seen for this I was told that it was: a) caused by her licking the incision site or b) she was rejecting the material used during the surgery to repair her leg. I left the clinic with a 2 week supply of antibiotics and no follow up app't for my dog. This whole time I was extremely anxious and nervous about the newly repaired leg and her prognosis. Feeling like nothing was getting better I called the Veterinary Medical Center located in Syracuse and made an app't to see Dr. Robinson, head of the ortho surgery dep't. I took Nanook out there for a consultation and was told by Dr. Robinson himself that after he review her medical chart from Beaver Meadow that the material that Dr. Diana used to repair her leg is "not being used any more and vets are getting away from using it because it's shown to have a HIGH rate of infection" Why Dr. Diana is unaware of this and continues to use this material on our pets is beyond me. Less than two weeks later, I had to take her back to the clinic to have her put to sleep due to complications arising from the resulting infection. This is the kicker though, after having to say goodbye to my puppy of only 2 years and all the money I have spent at Beaver Meadow over the last 6+ years between 2 different dogs that 1) they ended up charging my family $150.00 for an after hours/emergency fee to put our dog to sleep. (It happened on a Tues. afternoon and the clinic closed at noon to start their New Years Eve Holiday. After letting my 2 kids and family say goodbye to Nanook and drive her over to the facility (which by the way the vet and staff were still there- we got there at 12:15. 15 minutes past noon and they feel justified in charging me this ridiculous fee. After calling the staff and explaining my disapproval over this charge, I was told by Dr. Diana's front counter staff that the charge was in "error and should never have been charged to me since I was such a long standing customer and Nanook just had a failed surgery in Oct. I was appreciative that they understood the situation. But just this afternoon, I was contacted by Kim from Beaver Meadow and was told that no, "Dr. Diana will charge my account for this $150.00 and that bec. my pet was not in organ failure that it was a valid fee. I made the decision to put her down when I did so she didn't suffer for 2 more days until the clinic opened back up again on Thursday. Kim stated to me that "the dog was not critical and was only just uncomfortable. My jaw hit the floor, how dare she- she was my dog and I saw firsthand for weeks how much pain she was in. The prescribed pain medication from Syracuse wasn't even helping. But I guess I should of just ignored her and let her lay on my living room floor unable to get up because her leg wasn't working. Dr. Diana couldn't even call me herself to tell me this and that they were reversing their original decision to refund my money. The money is nothing to me, it's just the fact that they treat you with no sympathy- you're an inconvenience; just money to them. I didn't even get an "I'm sorry for your loss from Kim or the Dr." Just a business/cold feeling....thought they were there to help care for your loved ones? Very disappointed with the new vets at Beaver Meadow....I will never trust them to care for any future pet of mine and will never do business there again. I was told by Kim that "that's your decision and that was fine". Wrong decision on their part to treat a long standing customer this way. read more

It's worth your time to drive a little further to an actual vet that cares about their animals. Staff used excessive force and the catcher's pole on my frightened dog when I boarded her instead of giving her time to get used to her surroundings and the new people. My dog is now terrified and hiding from me. I wish she could talk so I could know what they did to make her so fearful of everything. read more

on 9/29/14, we took our dog for his yearly exam. As part of the exam, he was to receive 2 boosters & a rabies shot. The exam started with our vet, checking our dog for lumps. He remarked our dog was in excellent health, maybe a little overweight; but that was all. On 9/30 we contacted the vets, because we noticed a large lump growing on his back at the site of one of the shots. We were told, this sometimes happens. I called them again on 10/3 stating that this was not a small lump but a 5" x 7" lump. They told us to bring him up. He was examined by another vet. We were told to give him an antibiotic & apply heat to the swelling 3 to 4 times a day On 10/6/14 because our dog was no longer energetic & the lump was now bothering him , we contacted another vet clinic. On 10/9 we took him to the new clinic & our dog was operated on that night for a severe reaction to something. After the surgery, the vet told us that the lump was filled with abscess as a result from a reaction to something. Our dog had one drainage tube on each side of the site of the surgery.. received an additional antibiotic along with pain med. The following week , the tubes were removed & seven days later the stitches were removed. On 10/28/14, we received a rabies certificate & tag in the mail from Beaver Meadows. Also enclosed on some kind of business card (not Beaver Meadows) was a note stating "our rabies certificate was entered in the computer incorrectly. Please discard the certificate from 9/29/14. This is current certificate & tag. Enclosed is his rabies "current "Vaccination certificate dated 10/23/14. The last time we had been at Beaver Meadows was 10/03/14 to have them check on the lump that had formed at the site of one of the shots. I cannot tell you the disappointment in the vets at Beaver Meadows in the care of our dog. Our dog had been under the care of one of the vets since he was a year old. He's older now & thankfully once again healthy thanks to the new clinic we are taking him to. read more
