Fantastic service! We have used Beaver Tree for two different projects and both times the service and results were excellent. The most recent job was huge-tons of overgrown brush and trees on a large property. Two favorite things about Beaver Tree-they take initiative to identify and correct issues that they notice as they work and they always take the time to do the extra clean up of the space. We used Beaver Tree Company for the first time today. Many of our neighbors have used them and they came highly recommended. We had a number of companies out to give us an estimate. Autumn from Beaver Tree was the most professional and gave us confidence that they would do a good job. While they were not the least expensive, we decided to go with Autumn and his team. A team of three showed up, on time today and got right to work. They were in perfect sync and efficiently got to the job at hand. They cut down one whole tree and shaped another. We had cleared vines off of the back fence, over the previous weekend and had a large pile of foliage as a result. This was a fabulous experience. I got a bid from Branch Out for 5 trees to be trimmed at my home. The guy was not very cordial and gave me a price of $4100. So I decided to get another bid. Same exact trees and service Beaver offered $1600. So I went with Beaver. They were on time, prepared, well-manned, professional and the job was exactly what I contracted. Call them. I reached out to get a quote after receiving a mailer for 20% off, and it was cheaper than everyone else we received quotes from (even without the 20% discount). I was skeptical after reading the reviews on here, so I was blunt with Autumn, the arborist. He said he is aware of the bad reviews and believes they may be from competitors in the area. He assured me that they are all flat-out untrue. He guaranteed that the price he quotes is what he will charge, and any changes will be discussed before the work is started (there were no changes). He said he can't respond to those reviews because they refuse to participate in the "pay to play" scheme that Yelp has set up to hide or respond to bad reveiws, and I don't blame him for it. A few of my restaurant buddies are on the same page. They did a professional job on our large tree in the front yard. Autumn seems like a bit of a tree nerd. He pointed out a potential fungal infection that may be the result of recent landscaping. He said it is worth keeping an eye on. Two of his workers spent about 4 hours trimming our tree. They cleaned everything up and didn't do any damage to the landscaping around the tree. If you are hesitant because of a few bad reviews, you need to understand the limitations of Yelp. Just talk to the Beavers yourself. They run a good business and when I need to get the tree trimmed next year, I'll be calling them again. read more

I am very very very happy with Autumn and his crew. I can't imagine any bad reviews are actual customers. A knowledgeable friend had recommended Autumn. He came to discuss the work I wanted so he could give me a bid. He explained all my questions and I could tell how knowledgeable he is. The bid was lower than some others I got. My parents have a gigantic Canary Island Date Palm in their back yard and asked me to find someone who could get it cleaned up and looking nice. I asked some neighbors and they recommended Giant Beaver. I spoke with the owner Keith and he was out the same day to give me a quote. He was very thorough in explaining what was needed to get the tree looking good. He left me a very detailed quote that I was able to give to my parents. After comparing his quote with several other companies in town, I gave him a call and set a time to have his crew come out and do the job. They showed up on time and got right to work. The crew of three had the job done and cleaned up by lunch. My parents couldn't believe how good the tree looked which I was happy about. I had a tree cut down about a year ago by Beaver Tree. On the ground was a big pile of wood chips afterwards. Recently after noticing suckers coming up everywhere my landscapers dug around and there were huge areas of the stump and large roots left. This all should have been removed as part of the job. I called and was told it was over a year so that it was my problem. I was also told I could get a bid for them to remove it. I'm very unhappy and have hired my landscapers to grind this all up. Got very competitive bid from these guys to trim an old oak, remove a stump, and clean up some other trees on my property. The owner was pleasant and showed up on time for our meetings. The crew showed up early on the day they were supposed to be here. I regret that I have to mention this, but since some other reviewers are being unfair, they all spoke english and were very nice to myself and my wife! They did great, fast work. They're not perfect: they ended up having to borrow a few of my tools, which I thought was odd. But they took great care in shaping and pruning three smaller trees on my property, they now look great. The stump grinding was fast and amazing. Our huge 3.5' diameter massive stump is gone and we have nice soft mulch down to a foot below ground level in its place. Finally, they cleaned everything. Even some other brush and leaves that I had lying around from earlier work that I had done. read more

I have used Beaver Tree half a dozen times over the past 5 years and have always had an excellent experience with them. I am a veteran real estate investor and property manager and know the difference between good and bad work. The jobs they have done for me have been very challenging: removal of extremely large trees, removal of trees right next to a house that were removed without damaging the structure, delicate trimming of stressed trees, etc. These were jobs that required an uncommon level of skill and caution. Keith's crews were always up to the task, as they are experienced and knowledgeable. Many or most of them have a long tenure with the company. The stability of his workforce is the sign of a well-run business, and a comfort to me as someone who is very risk-averse. I know Keith's guys have seen it all and will get the work done safely and well. A number of other people I know have also used Beaver Tree, and ALL are very happy with them. I would recommend that Yelp readers take the negative reviews with a grain or two of salt ... or maybe a whole teaspoon! There are bound to be few situations now and then where someone isn't happy, but the narratives I am reading here simply don't resonate based on the positive results my friends and I have had. Apart from that, many of these negative reviews are YEARS old. The owner Keith is a blunt guy and very direct (East Coast style), but I appreciate his honesty. I had a very bad experience with Autumn, arborist of Beaver Tree Co. Autumn has given me an estimate for $1600 to remove one large tree, including the roots and trim another large tree next to it for $1600. an estimate was in writing. Few days later I decided do NOT remove any trees just trim them and asked Autumn to rebid the job. This time he bided $2400 ($600 more more a smaller job!) and stated that previously he has made a mistake bidding the job. It was shocking to me but he insisted on the new price. I had to leave on vacations in 2 days and upon return I was planning an event at my home, so, unfortunately, I let them do the job as I was pressured in time. Today I reviewed other Beaver Tree customers' testimonials on this site and noted that Autumn has done such misrepresentation with mistaken bidding to others as well. That was shocking to me! And, there is more: once the Beaver Tree workers completed the job, Autumn would not leave my driveway until I paid him on the spot. Once their truck was removed from my driveway, the several dark red stains from chipping the branches were left on my driveway. I called and texted Autumn with no response for 3 weeks. Finally, two days ago, he came in with the power washer but without any cleaning product for the job, so, as expected, he was not able to remove the stains. They were set in. Yesterday, I called the company's owner, Keith (who said to me that he runs the company but the owner is in Hawaii). He would not release his last name but promised to come by to see the stains today. Well, he never made it. Interestingly enough he admitted over the phone that such staining has happened with his other customers as well... I will be taking Autumn and Keith of Beaver Tree Co to small claim court, unless they find the way to clean the stains within the next few days. Regina read more

We have a rather large hedge that hides the house across the street but still gives us a nice view from the Riviera... unless we let it get too high... then it's time for a trim. The first company we engaged was very expensive but came highly recommended and did an OK job. The second was *much* cheaper and we spend six months waiting for the hedge to grow back so it could be redone properly. Finally, on the recommendation of a neighbor, we called Keith at Giant Beaver Tree. His quote was on the low side and he explained that he wanted to get the job and do it twice a year for the next twenty years. Giant Beaver Tree has been taking care of that hedge and the rest of the large bushes and trees on our property for the past twenty-two years. The team arrived as scheduled and cleaned up after themselves taking all the branches out to a chipper that was part of the job. Had Autumn and his crew out to day-light and clean up our pepper trees and an olive tree. He was able to come out and give me a bid the same day and scheduled the service within a week. The crew was here on time, did an amazing job on our trees, and when they left there wasn't a leaf on the ground. Our olive tree is a focal point in our front yard, and it has never been trimmed so beautifully. I would recommend Autumn and team to anyone. Their prices are very competitive. Early this year I contacted Autumn at Beaver Tree Service to get a written estimate for trimming some trees on my property. Autumn seemed like a nice guy and we chatted for quite a while. He provided a written estimate that specified he would trim 4 trees for $600 or $150 per tree. He specified $200 per tree for the trees on the other side of my property. I called him to perform the work and he showed up at my property, said he did not have a copy of the estimate and could he look at mine. After looking at mine he then informed me that the cost was now $600 per tree, not the $150 he had previously quoted on the estimate with his signature. I asked him why he would not honor his estimate and said that it was crazy and stormed off. I tried to communicate with the owner Keith Strauss hoping he would be the voice of reason but without talking with me he sided with his crew and chastised me concerning the uncomfortable situation that was started by Autumn not honoring his original estimate. The owner Keith sounded very professional and told me about his very experienced crew. I had a large 50' tall tree to remove and, after looking carefully at the tree and the surroundings (it was fairly close to the house), he gave me an attractive bid. I had another bid of a similar amount, but I was impressed (read: taken in) by his friendly and knowledgeable demeanor. He had been used by a friend who recommended him. I had two other tree companies I wanted to talk to, so I didn't give him an immediate answer. When he didn't get the job right away, he was all over me to commit. I finally said OK and we set a date, which was to be a Thursday so if the job ran over he could still come Friday and then Saturday my gardener could spread out the chips, which I wanted to keep. Wednesday he said he was on a big job and might not finish, but he might be able to start my job on Thursday and finish on Friday. He later called to say he couldn't come Thursday, but would start first thing Friday. These back & forth exchanges were getting strained as his attitude seemed to deteriorate as I kept trying to pin him down on when he would come. I was getting tired of getting jerked around and vowed to tell him not to do the job if he didn't show up first thing Friday morning. However, he and his crew were on the job at 8:30, and I thanked him for being on time. Then he pulled an absolute shocker - he said he'd made a mistake about the job and his bid because of the proximity of the house, a storage shed and some plantings. Before he could say that the amount had to be increased or that he wasn't going to do the job, I told him to leave. I was really ticked off, as I had organized my schedule around this large tree job and now it was totally screwed up. It seemed pretty obvious he had another job to go to, and he was either going to try to get more money out of me or just walk away - either way it was totally unprofessional. We wanted some tree service done at my home in Santa Barbara. They came out, did some work and we paid for all the work upfront. We were told they would have to come back to finish up their services. We were ready to get the rest of the work completed but when we called the owner, Keith, he was very rude. He cursed at me many time and said he would not finish the work we paid for already. Keith and the staff at Beaver are awesome! Our very old Flowering Red Gum tree started dropping large branches very close to our home. It was an emergency for us and Keith and crew came through with amazing speedy service, they removed the tree ,including the stump, and left our yard cleaner than they found it! I wouldn't use them again and wouldn't recommend them to anyone else either. August 2014 - They came out to grind the stump of the Tipu tree that they had removed the previous year, but in the process mangled all the shrubs around the area, including burning them somehow (I presume it was hot exhaust from their equipment). They also took a small chunk out of our concrete stairs in a very conspicuous spot, which Keith said he would get someone to fix but never did. Then the tree started to die - I spoke to Keith about it and he told me that it was probably not the right time plant the tree (I don't know why he didn't tell me that before taking the job). His only advice was to water the heck out of it. He said that if the tree died they would come back in the spring and replace it, but wouldn't put that in writing. Fortunately, after a lot of time and water, the tree lived. April 2013 - They removed our Tipu tree and two over-tall Bird of Paradise trees. They cut a sprinkler line, ruined a brass light, broke a board and scratched the heck out of our gate on the side of our backyard. Keith came out the same day we called him and they fixed most of it on the following day, except for the ruined brass light - they reconnected it but the bulb doesn't seat properly. read more

Had Beaver Tree come out and trim "the dead wood only" on 2 Australian cypress trees in my front yard. They trimmed a lot of green off the smaller already comprised tree and left a lot of dead wood. Then I noticed a lot of dead wood on the bigger tree. I called the contractor and told him about it. He said he halted the job because he didn't have the right crew and that his boss had set up the job. Earlier when he came for the check he didn't mention anything about halting the job or anything about returning to finish the job. I called Keith the owner and he was extremely rude and said I should call the contractor that set up the job. How was I supposed to know how he operates? I thought the owner would be concerned that a customer was not happy with the service rendered. After talking with the tree trimmers they informed me that the contractor told them to stop my tree trimmings and go next door to do my neighbors tree.A job he got when he was in my yard and she came over to ask about a dead pyracantha. I will never hire them again. And Keith the owner, I would've been satisfied with I'm sorry mam We'll take care of it. Simple!! One star is too many!!!! read more

Bait and Switch! Unsolicited, Autumn Fish showed up at my door a few weeks ago and said Beaver was in the neighborhood on another job and wondered if I wanted a bid on trimming several over-grown oaks in our backyard. I figured it can't hurt to get a bid, so I said yes. The bid was actually pretty detailed and a decent price, so I said yes and signed the contract (receipt) . We set a date for the work to be done. As scheduled, Autumn and his crew showed up at our house this morning. First thing Autumn said was that they probably weren't going to be able to do the complete job as bid - he had made a mistake on the time needed to get everything done today. Instead of trimming 5 oaks (per the bid) they were going to only get to 3, maybe 4 of the trees. Evidently I miss understood what Autumn was saying and what Autumn meant. I thought he was saying that they would need to come back to finish the job as bid. I was late for an appointment so I left the house. About 3:30 this afternoon (pretty short day) Autumn presented my wife with a bill and said they were done and he needed to be paid. She paid the bill, as she assumed everything was complete. Evidently they're not coming back to finish the job. In the end, they did get to 4 of the 5 trees and did an ok (not great) job. Either Autumn needs better training on bidding or it was an intentional bait and switch tactic. Either way, it's a pretty poor way to conduct business. read more

Had a Date Palm that was shedding fronds all over our road and into our yard. Big ugly, dirty, vermin infested eye sore! Autumn came out gave us an estimate, crew arrived on time, took down 50 foot tree, did traffic control on tight highly travel mountain road, and clean up left property immaculate.
