We stopped in here for a quick lunch during the Heritage Festival and quite honestly our hopes weren't too high. The place was bustling but the staff was handling it well, keeping everyone happy. I ordered the chicken salad and my partner ordered the Cuban. To our surprise... the food was DELICIOUS! I had never tasted such good chicken salad and his Cuban was out of this world. Even though they were super busy - I took the time to compliment them on this delectably delightful experience. I would highly recommend this place. We will be going back to try other meals. The second i walk in i immediately feel unwelcome, unseen and unheard. There was a very limited menu, not many options. We ordered two strawberry banana smoothies and it took 45 minutes for them to make it. As we were waiting, one of the workers went on a half an hour smoke break. The other worker was having a conversation with a costumer for half an hour talking about thanksgiving when she should have been making our smoothies. Finally once the smoothies were done, they were completely wrong. We were given a strawberry mango pineapple juice. It wasent even a smoothie is was complete liquid. My sister ordered a cookie that was completely burnt and hard as a rock. I have never had worse service in my life. I can not rap my head around how it could possibly take almost an hour to make two smoothies and then mess them up. Never go here, outrageous experience. read more

Coffee Recommendations: 1) Cafe Mocha : Chocolaty and rich in flavor and texture. Was nice to have driving down The New River Loop in Sparta. Paired nicely to the sights of the river during the Fall. 2) Cubano Espresso: Sweetened slightly with sugar while it is being brewed, the coffee has a subtle boldness. I've been to Becca's twice in the past two days. And I drove 20 minutes from Independence, VA bc their coffee, food, and people who work there are all fantastic. Yesterday I had a salmon quesadilla with a side cucumber salad for lunch. Delicious! And it was grilled salmon, not lox! Sooo good. I brought home Matts biscotti and have eaten 1/2 the bag already. They are seriously the best biscotti I've ever had. Today I went for ice cream and coffee. Today's flavor was blueberry cheesecake. Divine! And I am not usually a fan of that flavor. I had a special shaken iced brown sugar coffee that was dark, intense, and delicious. If I wasn't driving N to NVA tomorrow, I'd go again. I did but a blueberry loaf so I'll eat that for breakfast! I had a Chai Latte (made with fresh spices), black bean soup (vegan, no or little salt, delicious), and veggie flatbread (tons of veggies and avocado, also vegan), and two slices of the fresh baked wheat bread. Oh, so good. Easy on the wallet as well. Staff are helpful and nice. Parking is curbside from what I saw, though I didn't really look for additional parking. Lunch was a packed house. Very cute store front. Their lattes are delicious. Much more balanced, and not as cloyingly sweet, when compared to national chains. National chains don't give you homemade baked goods or toasted flatbreads either. Becca's sponsors wine tasting nights and showcases local artists' works, which really contribute to a feeling of community. Their location right on Main street is perfect for a quick drop in, or even to sink back in their comfortable sofas and enjoy some reading time. I always enjoy visiting small town coffee shops, but often times they have more charm to offer than they have quality food and drink. I have been here twice with one year between my visits. I remembered my visit vividly (which rarely happens for me) and was anticipating my return for a couple months when I knew I would be back in Sparta. They didn't disappoint! My pimento cheese and bacon sandwich came out on freshly baked bread (honestly, that may have been my favorite part. Usually you just get whatever bread is sold at the local grocery store in small town cafes), and my side salad was fresh and crisp. The coffee is also good! All of this comes with no shortage of charm - the atmosphere is warm and inviting and easy to settle into for a few hours. My sister and I have traveled from our SC homes for two weeks ending up in Freeport, Maine. We have stopped at a lot of restaurants. Becca's in Sparta NC has the best iced decaf cafe americano I've ever had. The fontina cheese croissant was nothing to sneeze at either. Super great service and a very homey atmosphere.
