Sadly, this building is for sale - it's sad, when businesses like this fold, taking traditions with them. I hope the owners are ok!

Every time we are in the area, we stop by this amazing home cooking restaurant. There are Sooooooo many good things to eat here. Check out the menu pictures. But also there are always specials on the whiteboard up front (see pictures). Here are some of the things I've tried and loved here; - Meatloaf - hamburger Steak - corn nuggets - hush puppies - hot dogs You'll love this place. If you're in the area, I highly recommend it!

This quaint little cafe is located in Rhonda, a few miles west of Elkin. When I pulled up, honestly my first impression was, "Oh. Not sure about this one." However, the reviews on Yelp were very good so again - don't judge the book by its cover. I went inside, cautiously, and was greeted by one of the employees. The cafe is small and the booth I sat in seemed somewhat unstable. I ordered meatloaf with green beans and a side salad. I actually enjoyed the meatloaf. It was very moist and tasty. The green beans were also very good. The salad was...well, if I go back I would probably select a different side as they had plenty of good options. I was hoping that the rolls would be homemade but they were not. All in all it was a nice experience.

The high wooden bookshelves and designated reading tables give it literary cachet, but The Remedy leans more cozy than stuffy. There's plenty of seating inside and out, and this would be as good a place for a group as it would be for partaking solo. Part coffeeshop and part bar, The Remedy also offers baked goods, flatbreads and charcuterie alongside its coffees, teas, and cocktails. I passed on the food (it seemed overpriced), but the coffee left no room for complaint. I went with a marshmallow iced latte. It was prepared quickly, and it made for a smooth sip: not too sweet and no acidity. Winston-Salem has no shortage of places to grab a drink of the caffeinated or alcoholic varieties, but it's hard to beat the atmosphere that The Remedy has to offer.

I felt like I interrupted the gentlemen's conversation by trying to order and they were not very friendly. The veggie quiche was over $7 and kind of small. I was still hungry. It was good though. I'll add that I did not try the coffee (which apparently is a staple) There are so many OTHER breakfast and coffee spots in the city... I'll just say that.

Dori and I were looking for lunch one day while visiting Boone, and ended up in FARM, mainly due to visiting Boone Belles right next door. What was an accidental encounter turned in a fantastically spiritual experience. Like all my write ups, I am giving my opinion based on the type of restaurant, service level expectation and the price. The business model is to feed everyone who walks in whether you can pay for it or not. You can eat for free, pay $10 (or as much as you like), buy food tokens to leave in the token jar (passing on a meal) or work off your food in the kitchen or helping out... again as much or little as you want. The atmosphere is what your would expect in a cafeteria with folks servicing you off the line. The food is fresh farm to table and you only pay $10 for your meal, of which they have few options and basically tell what you can order. ... the food for the price was exceptional. There were folks from all walks of life from well off families to homeless folks off the street. The tables are tight and few in number, but not so much to be instructive. They are close enough to do one of my favorite things, meeting people and hearing their stories. So eat, meet and move on to make room for others. You really can miss it if you do not know it's there...look for it tucked away between Boone Belles and the Horton Hotel. In summary, if you are looking for a different dinner adventure, a good meal for services and price, and want to do some good in the world please check out the FARM Restaurant.

I loved how each plate came with a couple of orange slices. It was nice to cleanse the palate with the juicy fruit. We ended up coming back the next day so I'll be reviewing a lot of the dishes here. What we got: Maple glazed donut - 5* the perfect fluffy donut. And large to boot! I was honestly disappointed when we finished it. Avocado toast - 5* got a over medium egg on it which was really the cherry on top. It has a good amount of seasoning on it but not overbearing. My first bite was a bit saltier than I would've liked but everything else was perfect so I think it was a fluke. Biscuits and Gravy - 4.5* a tad too much pepper for my liking but other than that this was perfection! Fluffy, buttery biscuit and delicious gravy combos make my heart sing. Loaded Omelet - 4* it was loaded! Hope you like your meat because it's packed. The eggs were surprisingly fluffy though a little overcooked. Fried Potatoes - 5* delicious and complimentary to the meal. Java Breakfast - 3.5* the eggs weren't the best, the sausage was fantastic, and the pancakes were pretty good. They were thin and fluffy. French Toast - 4* the French toast was really good, the black raspberry topping not as much. It was a bit too thick and gelatinous for my taste. The syrup that comes out with the meal is good though. Quiche - 2* my least favourite. I was really excited for this one and had high expectations. Unfortunately it was a thin and chewy quiche and lacked flavor. Fried pie (strawberry rhubarb) - 2* I wasn't a fan. The syrup was too gelatinous and lacked the flavor I'm used to when you have strawberry rhubarb. The inside looked like the syrup you get when you add too much cornstarch to thicken up fruit sauces. It didn't taste like cornstarch though so no worries there. Glazed donut - 3.5* (my partner says 4*) these are half priced if they're a day old. They heat them up for you if you want, which we did. It was alright but still good for being a day old. I'd choose fresh if it was available though.
