A frustrating and, at times, genuinely unsafe experience…read more What initially felt like a company we could trust turned into a project we wish we had never hired them for. If you value your time, money, home, and peace of mind, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. The work on our floors and dry wall required multiple return visits. After the second flooring visit, we told them the floor was still uneven and that the vinyl continued to pop up. On the third visit, a team member stepped on the area that was popping up and said, "There's nothing wrong!" After we insisted they open the floor, we discovered that cardboard packaging from the vinyl floor boards had been used underneath the floor to address the leveling issue... When we finally thought the flooring was finished, another problem surfaced. The trim at the top of our staircase that had been installed only about two weeks earlier came loose, and I fell down the stairs as a result. We then discovered that our replacement dry wall was visibly uneven and not flush with the existing wall. Even after their team came back to work on it, the transition was still not flush, if not worse! Regardless of whether subcontractors were involved, we hired Into The Woods to ensure the work was completed properly and ultimately hold them responsible. On top of having to repeatedly identify problems that should have been caught through proper supervision and quality control, the most frustrating part has been communicating with Into the Woods direct team members, especially their owner, Shamus. We constantly felt like our concerns were minimized and dismissed. Even if the work had been perfect, the interactions with the company throughout this entire process made us wish we never signed anything with them. *Additional Review After Owner's Response* Unfortunately, Shamus' response to my review is itself a reflection of our experience with Into The Woods. Throughout the project, our concerns were repeatedly reframed rather than addressed. We were reassured that issues would be taken care of, only to find them unresolved on subsequent visits. When we continued to speak up, we often felt our words were misconstrued, our concerns minimized, and the burden shifted back onto us. The response emphasizes that the company made 7-8 return visits. But the number of visits does not mean the work was properly completed. In fact, having to repeatedly request corrections is exactly what made this experience so frustrating. Many of those visits were to address warranty or punch-list issues that should have been resolved as part of completing the original work. I also want to correct the characterization of the financial accommodations. The nearly $10,000 shortfall was not covered by Into The Woods as a "good-faith discount." The remediation company that referred us to Into The Woods chose to cover the additional costs after we shared our negative experience with Into the Woods. They asked Into The Woods to go above and beyond to restore our home, and we are genuinely grateful to the remediation company for stepping in to help make things right. Separately, Shamus offered us a $1,000 "gesture of goodwill," which we declined. This offer came after we discovered cardboard packaging from the flooring underneath our floor. The stair-nose explanation in the response is particularly frustrating. The response leaves out the fact that approximately two weeks had passed since its installation. When the stair nose came loose, we photographed the underside and found a substantial amount of adhesive that appeared not to have properly bonded. The company subsequently returned to repair it. We don't expect construction to be completely free of problems. We do expect a contractor to listen to concerns, supervise the work, communicate accurately, and make sure problems are actually resolved. This experience cost us an enormous amount of time, frustration, and peace of mind. After everything we've experienced, we would not hire Into The Woods again, and we hope prospective customers consider our experience before making their decision.

We were very unhappy with both the process and the results of our two-bathroom renovation. No…read moresupervisor was present to coordinate the crew or oversee the work, so we came home to find mistakes daily: they installed the wrong bead board, reinstalled the old medicine cabinet rather than the new one, didn't measure for wall switches, painted the windows shut, re-installed a clearly broken electrical outlet and didn't bother to sand, leaving rough edges as trim. Aside from the mistakes, the lack of supervision meant crews operated at unpredictable times without notice (nights, weekends) and were very disrespectful of our home. They used our bed as a staging area for drywall, stored hardware on our glass picture frames and used an electric saw on our couch to cut tile. They left a mess inside every day and piles of trash outside every evening. Despite repeated requests to clean up the construction debris, no one would pick it up and we had to take it to the landfill ourselves. Each crew blamed the other for the problems so I had to contact each crew to find out how to fix the other's problems. I wondered why we even hired a contractor if we had to do this ourselves. The bright spot was Taylor the plumber, who was prompt, friendly and detail-oriented. Otherwise, we were disappointed start to finish.

He was also flexible in additional requests we had along the way (like asking for a final glossy coat to finish the wood floors). I was originally going to replace carpet with LVP but found wood floors under the carpet! We chose to have the wood floors refinished and stained and they turned out fantastic! It looks like a completely new space. The job was scheduled within a few days and was completed on schedule. Unfortunately ding install there was an accident with my existing granite bar top and it broke. They tried to match it and almost installed it but I didn't want it because it was noticeably different. They decided to replace the bar top as well as the entire kitchen island with granite that I chose myself. They were also sensitive to my schedule as I had family from out of town arriving. They finished the day before and it was absolutely beautiful. I'll definitely work with them again as I have my master bath and closets to do next.

My number has been blocked ever since - totally unprofessional conduct! I never hired them, but my review below is regarding my honest experience dealing with the owner of this business Carlos so that others can be forewarned. He even sent me a message on Google yesterday morning instructing me to "call him now" after seeing my review instead of ever offering an apology for less than professional conduct. Now to my review- I sent the him a message a few weeks back simply asking if I was still on the schedule. An hour later, I got 2 calls and messages from him asking who I was, immediately followed by "good luck with your project." So 10 mins is all customers get to respond before they are sent a rude response to find another professional? I wasn't able to see this correspondence until later and assumed they were clearly not interested in my business, so I never responded. Later in the day, I had another set of messages from him concluding "bless your little heart" "have a great life." Who says things like this in a professional interaction? When I went to finally respond and call back, I realized that my number had been blocked. Really? Also, they advertise in their brochure that they match competitors pricing. He even confirmed - "yes we do as long as they are in the same business and not handymen." But when I sent him a fitting quote which was about $200 less than this company's price, he said, "that's too low for us, go ahead with those gents." So price match only applies when it's convenient for them. Secondly, I asked him about warranty, and got no response. And after 2 weeks of waiting, not only was I not on the schedule anymore as discussed, I was not even able to be located in their system with my phone number. A few days back, my phone number was still blocked and I actually tried calling him from my husband's phone and of course it went through. The owner Carlos had no recollection of the aforementioned text messages or why my phone number is blocked. He also had no recollection of anything whatsoever with regards to my project - "they see so many people in a day" he said. He then said "let me power cycle my phone and see what happens." As if that's going to unblock my number? An hour later, I still couldn't text or call him from my phone. Outrageous! I have dealt with much bigger companies in the past and even they don't make customers feel so insignificant. It seems to me that they have more than enough volume to care about people or make an effort to earn anymore business. I am happy to take my business elsewhere!
