Oh Beck Tavern, If only.... When I was a younger man this was the kind of place I would have loved. Too bad I am 59 and struggling with gout or I would load up on the food and beer and - well - you get the picture. The people are nice here. If you go alone and try to talk to the women, they can be a bit standoffish but there's always someone who will talk with you there and thats what makes it so cool. Get a Yuengling and just mingle with the patrons. A polite "Hello, ladies!" will get you farther than some line you used back when you were young. I try to be patient and stand by a group of gals until they feel comfortable enough to say hello or move away. There's plenty on tap if you are with the missus, she can get a wine or something. It isn't much of a talk kind of place but you can have a conversation if it isn't too loud. read more

Keep your manicured nails and your purse dog at home. Low Beck is a salt of the earth neighborhood bar. Call it a dive, call it a hole in the wall...it's really not either. This is just a bar that is well...a bar. This is exactly what you're supposed to walk into when you want to have a couple beers and laughs with the boys. This is exactly the type of place that you take your girl to knock back a few. This is the type of place that doesn't feel contrived or fake. The inside is old, wooden, dank and bristling with welcoming regulars. We were actually waved in from one of the regulars while we were looking for a watering hole (Thanks Steve...enjoyed meeting you!). We enjoyed conversation with a few regulars and got to learn a little about Tom, our bartender (wicked glasses by the way!). This place has cheap drinks, great conversation, a great atmosphere, and televisions tuned to sports. I'm not really sure what you could dislike about this place unless your nose is pointed past 9 O'Clock. Super friendly laid back...I'm thinking plenty of Rolling Stones gets played late night. It gets 4 stars cause I was only there for a drink, however if I lived here, I would be there all the time. If this was my bar, I would only give it 1 star, cause it seems to be clinging to its last shred of anonymity, which is its best part, so why fuck them out of it. read more

The Beck Tavern is delightfully divey and cheap. Dark with a smell but it's a great place to get a cheap drink. The only food is pretzels and chips. Bummer. read more

I spent last night at Beck Tavern with a group of friends (including the famous Cheryl H. from our very own Yelp community) drinking and soaking in Beck's ambience. Despite my confusion between High Beck (at High and Beck) and Low Beck (this Beck), I managed to find the right place. I was thrilled to see some old favorites on tap--like Bell's Two Hearted Ale--and a new favorite, Abita Turbodog. It's a little dark and a little grungy like all dive bars should be, but perfectly comfortable and ideal for a Wednesday evening in the company of friends. Tucked away in the heart of German Village, you should stop in and settle in for a drink or two some evening soon. read more

Looking for a nice "cheers" style dive bar? Look no further! Becks or "low Beck" is a great beer and shot kind of place. They have a decent sized bottle selection and around 8 taps. Don't expect anything fancy, but do exepect to not have to spend an arm and a leg to have a good time. read more

Wow- what a cool little dive bar in the heart of the German neighborhood of Columbus. I visited a friend who lived downtown and we decided to walk the four blocks to this place after looking it up on Yelp (thanks!). A very old, more traditional neighborhood place, I really enjoyed the vibe and had a great time at the dart boards with our group. After having a couple of good local beers and chatting up with the other patrons (who all seem from the neighborhood and were really helpful in recommending a close a good dinner place), I didn't want to leave! Our group almost stopped in again after dinner, but decided to crash for the night. If I ever find myself in Columbus again, I'll make a point to stop in again. The two small complaints I had about this place is that they didn't serve any food (other than the beef jerky they offered us!), and the quality of the bathrooms is.... not so good. But overall, a really cool little place. read more

Love this bar. It is very divey but is a great place to have a beer and relax. Never been there for a Buckeye Game, but it seems to have enough TVs to watch one there. Three Dart boards and always some good micro beers on tap, which is not usually expected at a place like this. Great feel and atmosphere, a bar you can actually hang out at and speak with those you are with. read more

One of my favorite haunts in all of Columbus. It feels like it's been here forever, probably because it has. The crowd is really diverse, a mix of locals, lawyers, young and old. The drinks are dirt cheap and the bartenders are always friendly. It's a fun place to go anytime but I especially like to come late night. I walked into this place on a Saturday night with a group of friends and it was dead quiet. We sat at one of their cute wooden booths and while my husband got a pitcher of some micro brew at the bar, I put a few bucks in their jukebox. Instead of the old-timey juke boxes found at most dive bars, this one had a touch screen and a bizarre collection of music. I was told that it can actually access the internet and pull up pretty much any song you can think of, but I lacked the will to give it a try. I had been turned off by this place because it kind of seems like a neighborhood bar that wouldn't necessarily be kind to strangers. While there is definitely a local scene here, people were reasonably friendly. After we got some music playing and more people showed up, things at this little bar started to hum. They have several micro brews on tap, as well as Bud Light, etc., and there are a few dart boards. I'm pretty sure that this place doesn't sell any food, so don't come hungry. read more
