Took my kids to Marshall Playground & Sprayground. The whole area was fenced in with one entrance and the area was big enough my toddler had plenty of room to run! It was busy and there were still plenty of seats available and a ton of shady areas. Fantastic play area! read more

Beckley Creek Park is the perfect park to start a run, walk, or bike ride from. I started a long run with a group here yesterday. There was adequate parking, multiple bathrooms, and drinking fountains. It's a great starting point to access the Louisville Loop from or even just to run a few laps around the egg lawn for a shorter run. read more

I have loved seeing the Parklands grow along the years, and it seems that the park has perfectly met every stage of life when I have visited. It was great for running and biking in years past, and now the playground and splash park are our favorite parts. One of the greatest parts of the park is the variety of it. From the great lawn to the rolling paths that wind past streams and through groves of trees, and the areas for launching kayaks, this is a park that offers something for everyone. Weekends mean a busier park as people want to enjoy the outdoors in their leisure time, but it never feels overly crowded, even on those days. This is such a cute park! With a crisis that has the world shut down, at least we get our beautiful parks to explore... Beckley Creek is a part of the wonderful Parklands. Sitting right off of the highway, it's such a large, gorgeous space to get some fresh air. There is a lot here besides the trail. There is a well-kept playground, visitor's center, and a huge green space for whatever event you may have... There is also tons of parking. There's a bridge that connects to Floyds Fork, so if you are wanting to expand your walk, this makes it even easier to do so. I love this park. I first went to this park last year to run my 10K. This year I went back to run my virtual derby mini marathon. The atmosphere and the peacefulness of this park is out of this world. You will run into joggerss, runners, walkers, soccer training, kite flyers, dog walkers, people fishing, hiking trails, etc... Even though I didn't get the opportunity to run my first mini with some amazing people, I am glad that this park was available for me to accomplish my goal and mark another one of my bucket list. I thought it was time for an updated review. This park is an absolutely terrific place to spend a day. This is one of a number of parks in the Parklands of Floyds Fork system . There are a numbers of trails to walk, hike or bike. There are benches scattered out around and picnic areas to enjoy a nice outdoor meal. Coming back showed this place to be a spectacular example of Kentuckiana. One drives through splendid country views, but most of the state is inaccessible. Here, a beautifully manicured park gives you an easy trek through a variety of scenery ranging from wetlands to fields laden with wildflowers. Some sort of fairly dramatic freshwater crayfish confrontation was going on in the stream, and the area was a bird-watcher's dream. Various sports fields and facilities dotted the landscape, without ruining it. The names suggested some fairly expensive corporate sponsorship. I'm not going to pick my health insurance based on who funded the park, but you have to give credit where credit is due. The place is quite spectacular. read more

I love Beckley Creek Park! We visit The Parklands of Floyds Fork often, and this is one of my favorite areas. There's so much to do here! There's Egg Lawn, which is a large lawn area where you can picnic, or just lay out on a blanket and read. I've also seen folks playing frisbee and other yard games. There's also fishing, both at the creek or in the lakes, there are plenty of trails to walk, hike, or bike, there's a playground, a spray park, and there's a great pavillion. There's also a learning center, which is really educational, and would be great to visit with kids. Typically when we visit we're biking, and we always have a great time! There are plenty of trails to explore, so even if you visit again and again you'll never get bored. And, even if you bike the same trails numerous times, you'll enjoy the scenery throughout the changing seasons. It's always beautiful! Recently we visited to kayak, and I loved it! I can't wait to go back to explore more of the creek, because I've only done half of it at this point. That's the great thing about this area, there's so much of it, so there's always something fun and new to do. Floyd's Fork waterway has reinvigorated our Metro communities park system. The Louisville loop is apart of the master plan to circle the Louisville Metro area by creating a chain of parks, one is Beckley Park it's a beautiful slice of nature, the amenities created from a vision. This vision has continued through philanthropy from generous donations. Many thanks to those of love to mention yet won't for fear of not including all. ( Donors can be found by spotting out Louisville metro parks website). There is a few other parks created along and throughout the Floyd's Fork water shed with each joins a chain of natural preserves to view wildlife, lookouts and activities for exercise, water playgrounds, hiking, walking paths and picnic areas. Some I've mentioned are all excellent. Most recently a casual afternoon drive entering Broad Run Park there was many deer to watch from afar, along with a walk to the silo lookout at Turkey Run Park only end our day at Beckley Park relaxing in our hammock next to Floyd's Forks babbling stream. The park is incredibly well maintained. Well constructed roads and bridges linking to the 21st plan leading from one to another. There are many more areas waiting for you to explore so what are you waiting for. I hope you enjoy as much as we have and will continue too. read more

My first encounter with this park, and any of the Parklands, was for the Great Pumpkin 10k a couple years ago. It was my first time out there and my first time doing the race and I ended up parking at Beckley Creek and walking to the Egg Lawn. Pre-race-3-years-ago-Kathy was confused by the park and parking logistics. Today-Kathy understands now. My next encounter with the park was a weekend kayaking day through Green Earth Outdoors. Again, this was a year or two ago, as Green Earth Outdoors no longer operates that service in the park. Which is a sham, because it was an absolutely wonderful way to spend a day and get a work out. You can still kayak at the lark, but I think you need to have your own equipment and means of transporting it. Which I sadly do not have. More recently I have found myself back out at the park for a change of scenery. There a many short trails to hike and explore. If you do a few, you can get some decent mileage in. But the Louisville Loop is now complete between Bardstown Road and Shelbyville Road, connectiing the many Parks of the Parklands! A few months ago, the fella and I began at the Bardstown Rd side and walked the Loop through a couple parks. And this last weekend, when it was 68 degrees in January, we began at the Shelbyville side, Beckley Creek Park. We made it 6 miles (up to Pope Lick Park and just past Taylorsville Rd) before turning around and coming back. The paved paths are in great condition, for whatever kind of exercise you are doing. The paths are wide enough to allow traffic in both directions, wider in some areas, narrower in others, but still walkers going in opposite directions shouldn't have a problem. There are a couple areas with flushable toilets, but there are also a few port-a-potties along the way. I used one, cautiously, worried that it might have been sitting there unattended since the last race held at the park. But it had been cleaned and restocked with toilet paper less than 4 days prior (the restocking of hand sanitizer on the other hand....is a different issue...) It is a lovely park. Access for walking, running, biking, kayaking, hiking...just about anything you can think of. Family friendly. A super park that kicked off the awesomeness of the Parklands! read more

One of the first parks to be included in The Parklands. This park has a little bit of everything, but I call it the fishing canoe park. A portion of the Louisville Loop as well as off path trails are here. The trails aren't anything spectacular, but if you require unpaved paths then there are a couple of 1-2 mile trails. Beckley Creek Park stretches from Shelbyville Road in Middletown all the way down to S. English Station Road/Taylorsville Road in what I believe is considered Jeffersontown. This park includes the William F. Miles Lakes area, The Oxbow, Egg Lawn, Humana Grand Allee, and Distillery Bend. On the last visit here we hiked through the unpaved trails. While they're shorter trails, you should still make the stop. Spend a day and hike them all(which is easily possible with plenty of time left to spare). Every time I think of Beckley Creek Park... I always go back to my fishing canoe park thought. There is a nice sized pond to fish in if you're into that. Each time I've been in the area it seems to be quiet with maybe a total of five people fishing. Maybe you're not casting your pole at all. It's a peaceful place to hangout. Egg Lawn is worth a check because it's a huge lawn that's in the shape of an EGG! They really couldn't have picked a better shape for that open area. I know a frisbee team plays in Cherokee and at the Waterfront. It's strange that I never see anyone playing frisbee, flying a kite, soccer, or anything on that lawn. At least have a picnic people! There is also a place across the way from Egg Lawn called Gravel Bar Overlook. The overlook isn't anything fancy, but I suggest exploring that small area for 30 minutes to a hour. Before moving on from Egg Lawn, there is also a dog park next to it. Now I can't talk about the dog park, but where is the developer that I need to hug for coming up with the name of the dog park. "The Barklands" If you don't smile at "The Barklands" in the Parklands... c'moonnnnnn. The Humana Grand Allee and Distillery Bend areas are neat as well. More trails to hike. The Grand Allee section includes a boardwalk that stretches over a marshy/pond area. They also have a fountain. Aside from the fountain, there are places to drink water as well incase you're thirsty. Even if you're not thirsty, drink some water. People don't drink enough water. I tell you to visit the Distillery Bend section for one thing. They have a trail called the Valley of the Giants Trail. It's short coming in at around 0.65 miles, but the trees are big. They aren't Redwood Forest big, but maybe one day they'll grow into the giants they've been named after. One other thing to note before ending this review is the crime that pops up in this park every now and then. At least once or twice a year I see something on the news about people breaking into cars or some type of vandalism in this section of The Parklands. I've never felt unsafe there, but keep valuables out of your car or out of sight. The vandalism would be hard to police, but I hope they're able to monitor, catch, and prosecute anyone causing harm to the park. read more

Some tips: Beckley Creek park connects from Rt 60/Shelbyville Rd south beneath 64, however you CANNOT access it from directly turning off 64. First time I tried to come here, Apple maps wanted me to make a right turn off the highway (there is no exit ramp) right into the park. I ended up having to go all the way to Simponsville to turn around. However, you can easily access from Rt 60 and the is a road that runs through the entire park that will take you north and south. Lots of parking options along the way. Eventually, there are plans to connect all the parks in the outer ring of Louisville. The park itself is very nice with both dirt and paved trails to choose from, as well as a number of ponds/creeks for fishing. It can get a little crowded when the weather is nice, so off hours are usually better. read more

This park suits the needs of my little family to have a great day outside. The splash park in the summer and playground are interesting and fun, mostly geared toward the 10 and under crowd but my young teenager would probably let out his inner little kid if he thought no one was looking. I know I do when I bring my preschool aged daughter here! I appreciate that the bathrooms are clean and there's quick shelter in case of weather. The Egg Lawn is flat, circular, and good for easy bike rides and dog walks, last weekend we were watching kites fly on the lawn while we walked the .7 miles around a few times. The dog park is a quick walk down the path (available with paid ongoing membership for maintenance purposes) and there is an open rotunda space that appears perfect for parties although I've never had cause to use it. This is not the area of the Parklands that you want to bookmark for hiking (there are others that fit that need a short ways away) instead come here with a blanket and read on the lawn, bring your bike, or go monkey around on the swingsets. You'll definitely benefit from the many ways to get active and all the fresh air. read more

Great park outside middletown. I live in Shelby county near the Jefferson border so it's great to have this big park close and convenient. There's plenty to do at this place, you can play soccer, go for hikes, fish in Floyd's Fork, ride a bicycle, or go for a run. The park is very dog friendly and even has a dog park. This park and its facilities are brand spankin' new -- so new they don't even exist on Apple Maps yet! But they are well worth the trip, for sure. I got to see the park by way of my friend's wedding over the weekend. The ceremony was held at Gheens Foundation Lodge on the property. The lodge is beautiful, with indoor and outdoor spaces. It looks out onto Floyds Fork, and has separate rooms inside the space so that you're not forced into just one for your event -- which became key with my friend's wedding. The wedding was supposed to be outside next to a picturesque yellow silo, but Mother Nature had other plans. As we were setting up, a storm came through, knocking down all of the chairs that had been set up and making the lawn too soaked for the guests -- and much less the bride in her long dress -- to walk on. This happened after the original cut-off time to decide if the wedding would be indoors or out, but the staff at the lodge were super accommodating. We turned the smaller room that was going to be for the buffet and that had large floor-to-ceiling windows that looked out over Floyds Fork into the room for the ceremony. The staff acted quick, getting extra chairs and moving the food tables into the main room, where the reception area was set up. The staff also were great in helping us out with the incidentals we had forgotten, like an easel for the seating chart and lighters for the candles. And despite so many questions and requests, they never seemed overwhelmed or bothered. They were definitely quick to help. I was also struck by the size of the park and all that it has to offer -- from a large lawn to a playground and spray park. But one thing of note: The directions on the Gheens Foundation Lodge's page on the site are terrible. Both and I and then my boyfriend, who met me at the wedding, got horribly lost. The directions offer two routes -- coming from the same direction on the interstate. One seems to be a more direct route, while the other set (the top set) is more scenic. So if you have an event here, be sure to include your own directions. But from what I saw from my vantage point of someone helping to set up a friend's wedding, I have to make this review five stars based on the lodge's staff's eagerness to help. They definitely seemed to go above and beyond. read more

I'm giving it four stars for now. I've only visited for the autism walk and with an influx of 2000 people it's hard to get a real feel for a park. You don't get that peaceful, back to nature feel. You also have to park a 1/2 mile out in a muddy field and walk in and out to your 5K. Despite all of that, I feel like this fairly urban park has real potential to have nice hiking and gorgeous scenery so I'd definitely like to go back. There are old barns, creeks, and fields of wildflowers. There are also smaller paths I'd like to check our. From what I've seen, this definitely has the potential to be one of our best urban parks. read more

The park has tons of sensory fun toys to play with. And the splash park is open and free to roam. It's never too crowded and it's not overrun by bigger kids. What a great place to spend a few hours on a pretty day. Beckley Creek Park is part of the Parklands of Floyd's Fork, a large ongoing park development project. You can find a little something for everyone in this park. There are miles of walking and biking trails, picnic areas, fishing lakes, canoe/kayak access to Floyd's Fork, a splash/spray park for the kids and a dog park. There are flat open spaces, woodlands, and wetlands. There is an educational/interpretive center as well as a lodge/event space that can be rented for special occasions. The park seems to be well maintained. The grass is always cut and the restrooms are clean. When the entire Parklands project is completed it will be quite impressive. read more

It's a HUGE park. The playground is not actually visible from the parking lot, so we couldn't find it. We saw a water park from a distance but my little boy was too tired to walk all the way there and he also didn't want to get wet since we didn't bring his swim trunk. It was no shade anywhere other than the picnic shelter a short distance walk from the parking lot. The signage could have been better for the whole place. read more
