2 out of 5 stars is insane. This place is phenomenal. The two waiters were so helpful with their recommendations. The atmosphere was also very calm and relaxing. Onto the food... the bread was awesome. My boyfriend ordered the octopus for an appetizer. Normally I would NEVER try that but it was delicious. The shrimp and grits (chef's family recipe!) Was so savory, and I don't even like shrimp! The quinoa bowl, omg. The yogurt sauce. Ugh so good. Then the coffee and coconut cake. You'll kick yourself if you don't order the coconut cake. Excellent food and service! It can get a bit cramped inside and parking is often a struggle (depending on the day/time you go), but the delicious food is always worth it! Poor service takes all the fun out of eating here. We started out having to ask for clean bread plates as ours were obviously dirty. We had to ask for bread, ask for water, ask for a salt shaker, ask the hostess (as our waitress disappeared) to check on our order since it was taking an inordinately long time to come out. When our entrees arrived one wasn't what was ordered! We kept it as we had a movie to make next door and couldn't wait any longer for another entree. We stopped in here one Sunday evening just for a drink and a quick bite. We ordered a glass of wine and a glass of beer. The wine, while tasty, was $12 per glass and was filled up less than half of the way. Certainly not worth the money at all. At least fill it up half way! What happened to a 3/4 glass of wine? We ordered appetizers: the avocado fries, the hummus and the burratta. The waiter also brought over bread for the table. The bread was cold and lacked taste. The avocado fries were interesting but the seasoning surrounding it was bland, so was the sauce. The chickpea hummus was bulgar and mint which was very bland as well. The pita with it was cold. The burratta had nice flavor and the dressing was good. The restaurant is small but cozy and warm. The wait staff was attentive. read more

I recently had dinner on a Friday night with two friends to celebrate a birthday. There were perhaps four filled tables outdoors and 8-10 filled tables indoors when we arrived at 6:45 pm. It was a nice night, so we opted for outdoors. We were served our cocktails promptly and ordered appetizers (a salad and avocado fries) soon thereafter. AN HOUR LATER, the waiter asked if we'd like another drink. We said we'd like our food. Our appetizers had not yet been served. Ten minutes later, he brought the salad. Another 10 minutes later, he brought the avocados. An hour and twenty minutes for 6-7 fried avocado slices? After two full hours, our dinner (a quinoa bowl, a lamb burger, and the salmon) finally arrived. There was no manager on duty, and the owners were not present. We explained to both the hostess and the waiter that we were frustrated. The waiter offered a complimentary beverage which we accepted. There was no explanation of why we had not been brought our food. Meanwhile, a couple who came in after we'd been there for an hour and sat next to us were served their appetizers and dinner before our dinners arrived--they apparently knew the waiter personally. We asked about birthday cake and were advised to have the coconut cake (they were out of several other options). The cake was dry and clearly not fresh. I won't be going back. For these prices, I highly recommend you go to the Inn at Pound Ridge down the road. read more

Bedford Police lurking to catch anyone staying 1 hour and a minute. 30 people in town Sat morning and 3 police - one of those. Not too many places in Bedford to eat if any. Girlfriend went in and after getting parking that looked somewhat safe conversations had already happened so it wasn't clear why Kyle? kept coming back again and again and again to take orders or ask for orders. Hamburger fries and two drinks $70 - ummm. Seriously - asked 18 times if we were OK - no seriously, every 3 minutes, was caught off guard at first, would we like to see the menu, would I like another beer, another wine, something else. $10 for a sraggley side salad, the sort you would russle up at home after a long day at work and needed the guilt to go away that you had to do something. Now, I have no objection to paying $26 for a designer burger. But it's gotta be good - we're talking succulent, sinking your teeth into type of a burger. One you remember. (For example, Cittanuova East Hampton NY ($14 at last count) Kobe beef) A combination of the modest portions, the almost unbelievable return to the table approximate every 3 to 4 minutes through out our entire sojourn, and the overpriced food left one feeling empty and pained. Went in for a casual dinner Sat night. To our pleasant surprise they had a table available but it would be ready in 15 min so we waited by the bar. The bar area is super small (6 seats). The whole time we were standing by the bar the bartender did not acknowledge our presence and asked for drinks. The rest of the service was just as lackluster. The decor is decent, reminiscent of an old farmhouse, but I think that is the idea. Drinks, once we ordered them at the table, were good. The food for the most part was very tasty but at the same time servers did not seem very knowledgeable. Overall, would meet someone for a drink. Perhaps will order a pizza. Updated!! I have to say that Bedford 234 is now my favorite place to eat in the 10506 zip code. The staff is truly fantastic, Melissa is the best but so is the entire service team. I knew it would take time for the restaurant to find it's groove and it did beyond expected. The food is delicious. The selection of wine and beer is great too. I have to share one story: an item was removed from the menu and when we asked about it they made it for us, then they added it back to the menu not long after the requests from patrons. They listen and react and they are always ready to modify a meal to fit your needs and wants. Do yourself a favor and stop by. Older review: When it comes to dining in Bedford options are limited. With the arrival of 234 taking occupancy over the old Meetinghouse Restaurant I was optimistic for a local offering which would deliver fun atmosphere, good food and friendly people. To say I really want to like this place is an understatement. However, my first encounter left me hungry for something more. While the food was good, it wasn't great. Options are somewhat limited but as more and more local restaurants try to be purveyors of local fare I find the art of the food gets in the way of a menu which can accommodate my family's diverse palate. The service was inexperienced in many ways. We were seated at a table that rocked so badly we may as well have experienced dining aboard the titanic as it was sinking. At one point the corner dipped so badly we almost lost our tables contents. I had to go under the table to readjust and stabilize it while the staff was off preparing lifeboats I assume. While comical I couldn't imagine any other patron "stooping so low" to save their meal. The experience wasn't all bad as the food was good. As for the decor, I like it. It isn't all that different from the Meeting House. I will be back after some time and hope to update my review with a more positive perspective. read more

"Great Experience" Started with an unusual LOBSTER KNUCKLE "ESCARGOT" ,Roasted Garlic-Herb Lobster Butter and an excellent OCTOPUs which was a full sized portion. For entrees, I had the Seared tuna over a very good rice cake and greens. My wife had the Swordfish, piled on top of a vegetable ragu which was topped with a rice cake then the swordfish which had friscee on it. Great desserts, we had the brown butter sugar pie which came in a mason jar, unusual and the Lulu's pie which were told was made by the owner's daughter, both excellent. read more

Came here for the first time last night (1/24). Wait staff were extremely friendly and offered great recommendations. AVOCADO FRIES!!! We ordered the avocado fries as a snack. The fries were fantastic and the cilantro aioli dipping sauce was even better. We then ordered the brown rice quinoa bowl and the pistachio crusted salmon. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the risotto was very flavorful. The bartender Jess recommended an elderflower martini and we were really glad we tried it. We ordered three rounds post recommendation. We decided to try a dessert. I can't remember the name of it, but it was a butter cake with ice cream; OUT OF THIS WORLD. It was the perfect way to end the perfect meal. The menu prices are fair, especially considering that most of the ingredients are organic/locally provided. Is this suppose to give the public an appetite? Do they encourage their employees to discuss ( In graphic detail) of they're infections in detail to it's customers? No Wonder why you have 3 stars and obviously family and friends writing 5 star reviews. We love this place every time I come home we make it here at least 2 times. A warm cozy space with great staff - tiny bar area that can get crowded. Melissa will always take care of you & once in a while you spot one of the local celebrities that live in Bedford. My last time it was Martha! Hard to pass on the coconut cake which is amazing as Is the brownie sundae. But for dinner - haven't had a bad meal - in winter the pot pie is a favorite though I tend to always order the Quinoa bowl with salmon or chicken. Okay, I think the ratings for this restaurant isn't fair, at all. My husband and I had a dinner here the other night, I was little worried before going as the Yelp reviews were not too positive. However, it was a pleasant surprise! We had avocado fries and macaroni cheese with truffles as appetizers. Both are amazing! As someone doesn't like Mac&cheese, it's hands down my best experience ever! The main dishes we had were steak and scallops. Honestly I would give them a 5 star if the sides of the scallops were not that salty. My husband eats very salty than me so he enjoyed his steak. We were greeted by an extremely large lasagna in a skillet cooling in the window. Wow, did it look good! A very small establishment, but very good service and very good food. The menu was very different and had many vegetarian option which for me (being the vegetarian) in a sea of fish and meat eaters made this the perfect choice to come to Bedford 234. If you love avocados, do NOT and I repeat DO NOT MISS ordering the avocado fries. The bucatini was so good that making the ride over the TZ bridge from Rockland to Westchester was DEFINITELY worth it. This restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. The ambiance is plain-jane. Unattractive, looks like a local dive. Service is poor, slow, unattentive. The menu is ambitious, cutesy and "trendy" (local farm strawberries in March?). The food is too much chef, not tasty, too spicy, tangy, vinegary, salty. All this and it is overpriced for what it has to deliver. The hanger steak was cooked rare as ordered, was soft, but tasteless and overwhelmed by the vinegary sauce. No beef flavor. Not to return to. This place is great! Went here with another couple last night and all of us loved our entrees. We had the steak, shrimp and grits, ahi tuna and short ribs. Pretty good selection of beers on tap. Our server, Kyle, was great and was very knowledgeable about the menu, making great suggestions. After we paid, he even told us to meet him at the bar for spicy tequila shots, on him! Another Westchester disappointment. They claim farm to table, but the chopped salad tasted like supermarket to table. The pomegranate vinaigrette was not really a dressing but a thick sweet syrup, which did not enhance the limp greens and canned chick peas. The table bread was supermarket Eli's (Zabar's)---I know the taste. A vegetarian onion soup was less a soup than a pile of onions, cheese costing extra, by the way. The swordfish entree, advertised as being Greek, hardly seemed Mediterranean at all. Overcooked, sitting on too-buttery mashed potatoes, with little seasoning. My wife's salmon salad was a little better but nothing stellar. As for the prices, they are over the top. My $11 glass of Argentina Cabernet was half the amount---literally half---of a normal glass of wine ordered anywhere else. The swordfish was $29, not justifying its fairly bland preparation. My picky daughter had a bowl of plain pasta---they charged $16 for this. (Clearly they are not encouraging parents to bring their kids.) This place has replaced The Meetinghouse, which had similar problems. read more

I love this place even better than the old meeting house! They have an extraordinary menu and their creations are rather sublime! Every time i go there i try a new dish and never has it disappointed! The owner seems like a really nice guy as well- down to earth and focused on excellence. I am just so impressed with the dishes, the presentation, the warm atmosphere, the flavorings- the artwork- the plates- the beer selection! My only suggestion would be to hire a few more servers to be able to quickly serve all the guests- because the word is out - the food and presentation is fabulous - which means high demand! We are so lucky to have all these fantastic restaurants in our area- Jean-Georges, Truck, Farmer & the Fish, Bedford Post, North Star- Stone Barns- Bedford 234 is a joy and I am so excited to have them as part of our community! UPDATE OCT 2016- They have some wonderful servers now so I don't see that initial issue they once had when they first opened. He has found some great people with fantastic energy working there. But You simply MUST try their chicken pot pie! I can't even think about it without my mouth watering. Oh and the white triple layer coconut creme cake. That is a masterpiece. Not sugary sweet- it is perfectly balanced and would win an award. I simply love this place. It's the only place i would ever go venture out alone just because i've got to taste that pie! You've got to pressure chef and the owner to get that Chicken Pot Pie on the menu! I think it was a special but it is utterly amazing. Real shredded white meat chicken, fresh pees, some fresh spices, baby fancy potatoes and swaddled in fluffy crispy philo. Come here all the time and like everything I've gotten. The food is always fast and fresh and they have always been accommodating to my family's random customization of standard dishes. The outdoor seating has been great this summer, especially paired with their white wine selections (ive had the sauvingon blanc and sancerre). Two people we are usually waited on are friggin awesome, so giving them a special shoutout. I'm forgetting their names, but one is a young gentleman who has a great sense of humor and the other is a young woman who is tall and pretty and always beyond sweet to us.
