A very cute cafe! Standard cafe fare with coffee, teas, good breakfast sandwiches; they even have an Ube tea drink (I didn't order but will have to try another time). I got an iced coffee and lox. The lox sandwich bread was a bit too toasted for my taste. The prices are a bit high for what you get but it's overall a very relaxing and chill ambiance. Food was unimpressive, but the real reason why Beechwood gets a 1 star review is because the hostess, tall Asian girl, was seriously inappropriate. She literally wouldn't stop chatting up my boyfriend (and weirdly exposing a bare midriff in a very work inappropriate crop top) even long after we had been seated. She addressed him exclusively the whole time as if I wasn't there and didn't even give us menus which is literally her ONE job as a hostess, she just kept asking him personal questions and trying to relate his answers back to herself even though no one asked her anything about herself. It was so weird and inappropriate and gross it made my boyfriend and me both super uncomfortable. I get dating is hard but you should not be hitting on your patrons' partners. There are apps for that sort of thing. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt that maybe she didn't know? But we were holding hands and clearly in a relationship and couldn't be mistaken as two platonic friends, so honestly there was no excuse. It was just ridiculously disrespectful. Boyfriend tried to end the interaction politely several times, but she would not leave. I wasn't going to post a review mentioning it, but then I happened to talk to a friend who went there more recently with her boyfriend and same thing happened and it grossed them out too! So posting this as feedback and PSA. Deeply unprofessional and disrespectful hostess at best, desperate and thirsty at worst. We really wanted to like the place, the decor is pleasant and the rest of the staff were all very nice, but the hostess's behavior was a huge turnoff for us when we just wanted to support a local business we had always been curious about trying. This place has great quality food, I must say it's my go to cafe when I'm at work. There's Asian options like the milk tea, Korean friend chicken(only on weekdays) and some Bulgogi bowls. Everything else is delicious! My fav so far is the beechwood salad. The dressing is the best. Service is also great, and the ambiance is so cute. The parking sucks but its JC what do we expect. I can't wait to try other things from this menu. I just say the cakes are a little too sweet for my preference but you might love it! read more

We sat at the big communal table, since we were 4 people and all their 4 seaters were taken. I had the Gangham Philly Steak with Korean marinated beef sirloin bulgogi. My husband had the Bulgogi Quesadilla. Despite the fact that we should have had the same bulgogi, his was so much saltier than mine. Service was basically non-existent once they dropped off our food. I came here for brunch with my friend and we were seated within five minutes. This is a great restaurant for some morning breakfast and coffee. I like that I can bring my own alcohol into the restaurant. I brought champagne and asked the server for orange juice and he was excellent he provided me with champagne glasses, a pitcher of orange juice, and a bucket of ice. The omelette was incredible. I asked to substitute my home fries for french fries and he was able to make that substitution for me. The ambiance inside the restaurant is great too. It is a spacious restaurant with a big menu. Luckily, there is a coffee shop to grab a warm (or cold) fresh coffee beverage whole you wait. The diner is owned by Korean folks so there are a few Korean fusion offerings. We opted for a more classic breakfast meal - California omelet and Morning Platter. The staff accommodated our request for the home fries to be extra crispy/well done. The food was pretty good and they had a nice selection of breakfast items but there was a big problem with the service and the coffee. They seated us and gave us water and then flat out forgot us. After an extremely long wait a server came up and took the order of a table that was seated WAY after us and then walked away despite being right next to us. I turned around in my seat and after a long time was able to flag down someone standing near the hostess area who eventually sent a server. So disorganized. The problem with the coffee was that it barely qualified as warm. To their credit they offered to refill it several times and each time I said yes, please top it off to warm it up, figuring there would have been a new pot made in the interim. No luck, it was cold each time. Normally I would have said something but at this point I had given up on the place and we had to get on with our day as the whole process had taken so long. I would have given five if it wasn't for the prices. Food was very tasty and I thought the wait service fine. They let my friend sit down without me while i was on my way. And she only had to wait 10 min for a table inside for brunch at 11 on a sun. While the food was good everything was overpriced. We both got the matcha latte for 6.50 which is about 1 to 1.50 more than other places. It was very good and had a strong matcha flavor and the latte art was a nice touch. My friends omelette was 16.50 after all her veggie additions. The bread it came with looked like super basic Arnold bread from the store. I expect something more rustic when I come to restaurants. The jam she said tasted home made though and she did really like her eggs. I liked my chicken and waffles. Chicken was super crispy and juicy on inside but $19 for a drum stick and a thigh is mad expensive. The waffle was room temp, almost cold. The jalapeno sauce was excellent. My friends and I were looking for a nice brunch spot and saw Beechwood flooded with people, so we stopped by and luckily got a table right away. There's a good amount of seating available outdoors. I started off with an Iced Chai Latte and ordered a Smoked Salmon Benedict. I don't think the food itself was anything special. It's just a normal brunch spot, and admittedly, it looked better than it tasted. My friend ordered the Devils Pancakes, which were missing the blueberries and had very little Nutella. I'm surprised the pancakes don't come with a side. As for service, after we placed our order, we didn't see or hear from our server again, so we didn't get refills on water or anything. I had to flag down a random server for our check. Overall, if you're craving a simple brunch, then it's not a bad option. I'll likely be trying other spots in the meantime though. read more

TLDR: Food was good but service was bad. Was pretty empty at 9am on a Sunday got seated right away. I had higher expectations for Beechwood, I've seen this place packed almost every weekend so I expected a lot. To start when we got there we were seated right away, and it seemed really pretty empty with a few tables filled. My family probably sat there for a good 20min pretty much ignored completely by the staff. People at other tables were getting their orders taken but no one stopped to ask us what we wanted/needed. It took my parents asking for a wait or to get an order placed. The food was solid, it came out fast once we finally placed our order. The huevos rancheros was delish and was actually pretty tasty and different compared to others. The potato hash and eggs (with the $4 extra corn beef) left something to be desired. The potato's didn't seem to have any seasoning and the corned beef tasted like it may have been microwaved? The real winner though was the BLT. It was on a great ficcocia bread and had pesto Mayo which really made it pop. Overall I will not be rushing back anytime soon, and those long waits might not be because it is good but because the staff seems to be a bit disorganized. read more

Came here for Sunday breakfast with my mom, sister and nephew. We ate outside though it was very crowded. I got the egg's benny which was pretty okay, it was filling and had a basic salad on the side. My sister got the burrito bowl which she really enjoyed, it had good flavor when I tasted it. My mom got an omelette that looked pretty good and she had no complaints. Cute and delicious! I've been here once before and also enjoyed my meal. I got the Bibim bowl and was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. The Chai Latte was one of the best I've had and very instagrammable if you're into that :) Only reason I didn't put 5 stars was me and my friend who got the Chicken Caesar wrap both agreed they skimped on the sauce/dressing. I definitely could've used some more red pepper paste on the Bibim bowl and the Caesar wrap could've used some more dressing. Besides that, I really have no complaints. Ambience is cute too! Wow I'm honestly surprised by the 3 star rating! How?! We stopped by for late lunch around 2:30 pm on a Monday, Party of 4. We ordered salmon poke bowls (beautiful!) , burrito bowl, bulgogi bowl, and everyone was VERY happy with their order. Ingredients are very fresh and portions are so big that some of us couldn't finish a whole bowl. Was quoted 15-minutes for a party of two, but was seated at the window bar after waiting 20-minutes, despite visually seeing/knowing that the option opened up 15-minutes ago... Really surprised to see that Beechwood only has 3 star rating on Yelp. I've come here a few times and always had such a great experience. It's the perfect walk in breakfast spot! They have great lattes (chai tea and matcha were both awesome) and different breakfast and lunch options as well as baked goods. Really enjoyed the avocado toast and breakfast burrito. I love breakfast and have had high hopes for this place. It is close to home, opens at 8, and looks like it should be an excellent location. Outdoor seating right on Grove Street offers an excellent venue to people watch folks as they scurry to the PATH station nearby. But try as I might I cannot get excited for the food here. The best review I can give it is that the plates are enough. You probably won't leave hungry. The menu includes both classic and more upscale sounding items. But everything I have tried here has only reached the, "well at least I didn't need to send it back," level. Nothing thrilling. The morning service has been, well, Meh. After the 8am Mass one Sunday we tried finding a breakfast place but, alas, it seemed like most places didn't open until all the younger folks in the area rolled out of bed. Here is what we noticed: - Homey atmosphere, a bit jammed in so that you're practically part of the next person's conversation (but that is to be expected of most places), and several tables at the window. - Respectable breakfast fare...a broader menu is available for brunch after 11:30am, but there was still a lot to choose from for breakfast. I had the Chelsea Omelet and my wife had the Eggs Benedict. She asked for the home fries extra crispy, which they sort of were. - Coffee was good and it kept coming. - Good service. Bottom line: Good basic place for breakfast when staying in Jersey City...not sure I'd go out of my way for it, but I'm glad we found it when we did! read more

I ordered a BLT. It was more like a child's portion & by far the saddest sandwich I had ever seen. It was plopped on the plate with not even a garnish or an extra piece of lettuce I don't expect much but for $12 it was definitely not worth it. C'mon put a side salad or a slice orange on the plate or maybe add a few more pieces of bacon to the 3- pieces that were on my so called sandwich.
