Came here on a Friday morning for a nice and relaxing breakfast while responding to some emails. Unlike the weekend crowd, it was quite quiet and mostly filled with a few students, families with young kids, and remote workers like me. The inside is nice and bright so it offers a great start to your morning. Also, the wifi is pretty good so no issues from a work perspective. I ordered an avocado toast along with a cold brew. This has somewhat been a routine of mine since moving here and I haven't really been disappointed anywhere I've gone. This was no different. Loved the picked onion addition too. Now - the pricing is not necessarily breakfast pricing. Expect to spend around $20 for both a breakfast item and coffee like I did. I visited on Christmas and ordered egg benedict and beetroot latte. I found a green bug that looks like a stink bug dead, upside down, fully intact of every part in veggies in egg benedict. I took it to the counter and showed it to them. The server asked if it was alive or dead when I found them. I told him it was dead and looked steamed....like it matters... Long story short I asked for refund but they said they have to ask their manager who's not coming back that day since it is holiday and I would need to wait until next day for refund so I end up getting a cheesecake instead. The cheesecake tasted little sour so initially I thought it went bad. Also it tasted like it's been sitting in the fridge for a long time. You know when you taste fridge smell from the food. I came here for brunch on a Saturday with a couple of my friends around 12:30 p.m. and it was rather busy. It was frustrating because you order at the counter and then you go find a seat to sit down, but there were people who were taking up larger tables by themselves so that there were very limited place to sit. I ordered their veggie omelette and instead of their home fries I opted for regular fries with a $1 up charge. The fries were delicious, properly crisp shoe string fries. The omelette was okay. The egg was really thin and didn't feel like it was actually three eggs. The omelette was loaded with lots of vegetables inside which was what was great. I also ordered one of their fall special soups which was the Coconut curry butternut squash soup. And that was not good at all. It was more of a puree than a soup, and it was so thick that I felt like I was eating a curry paste. I was expecting more of a cream soup but it really looked like baby food. It's such a cute cafe bright and quiant. You order and you can get to go or eat there. You find a seat and they bring it to you. Honestly I wasn't a huge fan of the food itself. I got the French toast and egg combo. The food had an interesting flavor making it just okay. And the egg combo with potatoes required me to season the food. I would come back to make sit in the cafe and read a book or try one of their pastries. But generally I feel indifferent about it. read more

What an awesome cafe! My fiancé and I have been past here tons of times in the past couple of years and finally came in for breakfast. I had a the French Toast, which was so big and fluffy -- even had to take some home! The iced coffee was really fresh and their staff is super friendly, being personable and courteous! Food: We got the Goin' Back to Cali, the Chipotle Sunrise Sandwich, and the Matcha Strawberry. Before ordering the guy at the counter said the ciabbata bread was massive, but when the Cali came I was disappointed by the size as the presentation made it dinky and I was expecting more height in the sandwich. We had different standards of what 'massive' meant. Flavor was still okay (some might think it's bland if they prefer saltier) as the pesto mayo and avocado gave it a bit of moisture and creaminess to the grilled white chicken to make it less dry. If it had some arugula, I think it would have made it better. As for the Chipotle Sunrise, it looked pretty decent but that was because the arugula gave it the height, but if you looked at it it was just egg, cheese, sauce/chili, and arugula. The chili sauce was spicy and sour which we dont think went well with the sandwich. If it had another protein instead it would have been better. The strawberry matcha was nothing special and for the price was expecting it to be larger and in a nicer container as we saw someone else with a larger and nicer cup who ordered a matcha with ube foam. Overall for the price you pay, it was not worth. Maybe we got the wrong items. Then again, it's Jersey City. Service: The good thing about this place is that you order at the counter and you don't have to pay tip for sit down. Ambiance was simple and clean. Friendly, kind and fast service, good coffee and a fantastic looking food menu. What's not to love. There is SO much space in here, the next time I want a spot in the area to pull out my laptop and get some work done, I will need to remember Gussy's. My oat milk latte (the usual) was strong and delicious and perfect on a long walk paired with a hot day. It feels a little corporate, but not really in a bad way. I got the breakfast platter with their cold brew pumpkin spice. The whole meal came out to $21 yikes ! I know extremely expensive but you have to understand it's downtown jersey city. EVERYTHING is expensive so, sometimes you gotta suck that up. My issue with the price is that the taste didn't match. The coffee was great but the food was a standard meal. I think they forgot to season my Breakfast Hash. It was REALLY, really bland. Like potato salad at a country club golf tournament bland. And they forgot to add sausage until I was halfway done my bowl--the server came by with the sausage cut up on a separate plate. The Pomegranate Lemonade, on the other hand, was too sweet. Gussys is a cute cafe that sells both good breakfast and a great lunch. They sell breakfast all day and while I haven't had breakfast there yet, the pancakes look amazing. I've been a few times on my lunch break and the salads are my favorite. I've gotten a Greek Salad with Cajun chicken for the win! The ingredients were fresh and the dressing that the use is pretty good. Also the sweet potato fries are really good. I've also had the pleasure of having their Turkey Chili that doesn't come too often. The turkey chili was amazing however I haven't been able to catch when they have it again. I paid $18 for a grilled chicken Caesar salad today, & I only received 4 ozs of chicken at best, a cup & a half of lettuce, a tablespoon of cheese, & a few croutons. Overall, the prices are a little steep - Worth it for the food, maybe not worth it for the drink. Gussy's does a happy hour from 3-6PM with discounted drinks, so will try then! The place was buzzing with people and seating is first come first served as it is not too big. There errands tables and high top seating by the window. I ordered my food at the counter and you take a number to your table. I had nice seat to myself and waited while my food arrived. They arrived with my food in timely matter. 10/10 would eat again. We woke up on Sunday morning with very specific breakfast plans. I wanted an egg sandwich in a brioche bun. I know, very specific. We, unfortunately, were waylaid by a phone call so the place we had planned stopped serving breakfast. Google led me to Gussy's Cafe, which I'm so happy about. We both had the Sausage and Egg sandwich with gochujang aioli, on a brioche bun. It was so good. Loved the hick from the gochujang aioli. We ordered online before walking over to pick it up and it was ready in the little pickup/cubby section by the time we got there. They also send you a text to let you know your food is ready for pick up. read more

I've searched high and low, and have finally found my favorite breakfast sandwich in Jersey City. + The Bec-Ky ($8.95): Two fried eggs, bacon, and cheese on a croissant--absolute breakfast sandwich perfection. Over the past year, I've tried about 8 or 9 different bacon, egg, and cheeses around JC and this is by far the best and the price is reasonable too. The croissant itself is also perfectly flaky and buttery, and I'll be trying the chocolate croissant next time. The staff are always friendly and there's plenty of seating available on weekday mornings. Definitely recommend for getting brunch with a friend or with little ones. read more

When the food started to come out, it was brought at different times so two of us got our food before the other two. What was ordered: Avocado toast with an egg, Breakfast Hash, a sandwich called "the gussy", A vegetable omelette with turkey sausage,the vegetable Benedict, and two black coffees. Overall the food was good. The vegetable omelet was stuffed with vegetables. The turkey sausage (2 pieces) was good. The potatoes were soggy and mushy and we left them over. The toast was multi-grain and very good. The Benedict was a big portion. Very tasty and the poached eggs were outstanding. The avocado toast very good but their was an up charge for the egg. The hash was very good and seasoned well. It needed more egg. One egg was not enough. The gussy sandwich was very good and tasty. The coffee was strong and bold. The coffee cups themselves were solid. The staff was friendly. Half way through the meal, the restaurant filled up with people waiting for food. It was so loud it was hard to hear our company talk. Depsite the cashier confirming with me they had turkey bacon and it was fine to switch, when my food came to the table, I found I was given regular pork bacon... My boyfriend got the Canadian Eggs Benedict and said the potatoes were undercooked and lacked flavor. Later he found a piece of eggshell (pictured) in the eggs. You can take a number and sit anywhere you'd like if you want to eat in. The seating area is very spacious and bright. We got the noisette latte with almond milk and it came out to $7 for a medium.
