Small dining room. Not so comfortable. Large table in the center if you don't mind eating with strangers. I am super surprised to see that Beechwood only has an overall 3 star rating here on Yelp! Before today, I was last here back in 2018, when my 2 friends got married, and had their reception here, and even then, they did not disappoint. But today, was an amazing reminder, as to why I really enjoy this place. My friend, actually the same one who had her reception here, asked if I wanted to meet her here today for brunch. I was so down! Our waitress, Ariana (spell check?), was amazing! She was on point with recommendations, taking our orders, and overall hospitality. I knew that I wanted griddle of some sort. I cooked pancakes for dinner last night (lol), so they were off the table. I decided to go with their waffle, but I wanted more (chow, I was hungry lol). So I asked Ariana which burrito would she recommend, and without a second thought, she said the Santa Fe burrito. So I went with those two options, as well as some orange juice. The orange juice, whether it actually was or not, gave me fresh squeezed vibes. It tasted delicious, with lots of pulp. So refreshing! The Sante Fe burrito was served with tomatillo salsa, which I love with my burritos. This burrito was perfection! Creamy guacamole, tomato, red onions, cheddar, eggs, ugh! I really did scarf it down, and enjoyed every bite. It also had good flavor, which we know is important. Something as simple as eggs, guac, simply needs salt. If nothing else, salt. I appreciate it because it is underused in many restaurants, sadly. Next up, was the waffle. This.waffle. Ugh! It was served with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, walnuts, whipped cream, and their house made syrup, and girl, this syrup is THE.BUSINESS! It almost gives me caramel vibes, but also offers maple flavor, which is what I love about syrup. Some of the best syrup I've had. The waffle, with all its toppings was perfectly cooked. I ordered a BLT. It was more like a child's portion & by far the saddest sandwich I had ever seen. It was plopped on the plate with not even a garnish or an extra piece of lettuce I don't expect much but for $12 it was definitely not worth it. C'mon put a side salad or a slice orange on the plate or maybe add a few more pieces of bacon to the 3- pieces that were on my so called sandwich. TL;dr: average diner food for a reasonable price We've come here a handful of times for brunch and every time we say "that was fine ‍". The service is also on the slower end for diner food. In our most recent trip, we got the following: Breakfast salsa burrito - the guacamole and sour cream are on the side. Without them, this dish would be a complete flop. They also didn't season the eggs, so you'll gradually be adding salt, pepper, guacamole, and sour cream as you eat. It's quite the process. The corn salsa was nice - wish there was more of that compared to the handful of corn chips put on the plate (also salsa would have been nice to eat the chips with). French toast - you get what you pay for ($11). It's two pieces of bread, a handful of fruit, and some syrup. Came here on a Friday around 11 AM and my group of 3 was quickly seated. It was freezing outside so I got a hot chocolate to warm up which was not overly sweet but nice. We got the Devil's Pancake to share for the table and then we got the Santafe burrito and bulgogi quesadilla. The lunch menu becomes available starting at 11 so there is more variety available. The santafe burrito was okay- nothing to rave about. The burrito wasn't super flavorful and the cheese inside wasn't even melted. I wish there had been jalapeños or something to add a little texture and some kick. My friend liked her quesadilla. The pancakes were okay, not super impressive. The syrup seemed a little watery, and the Nutella was mainly only on the top pancake of the stack. The location, interior, and service were nice, but the food wasn't anything special. Beechwood cafe is exactly what you would expect to find in the heart of jersey city. There is ample seating, it's cozy and cute but still louder and more casual. There is a super interesting selection of foods and the service is relatively fast. We ordered the fried chicken and the avocado toast. The prices were definitely a little high but it's pretty typical for this area of jersey city. Everything tasted amazing and the fried chicken was in no way dry. My favorite part was actually the jalapeño mayo actually. Way better than the typical chipotle mayo. The avocado toast was extremely filling for being as small as it was. My partner and I got takeout from here and we really enjoyed it! We ordered and went for a 15 minute walk around the neighborhood and our food was ready when we came back. I got the Beechwood waffle, which is a Belgian waffle that comes with fruit, whipped cream, and a caramel syrup. The whole combination was amazing and the fruit tasted really fresh. For somewhere that's always so crowded, I was very underwhelmed by Beechwood Cafe. My boyfriend and I stopped in on a weekday afternoon for lunch. The menu was a little confusing and all over the place. I ordered a fried rice with an egg and well done bacon - the bacon was soggy and definitely not well-done and the rice lacked flavor. My boyfriend ordered a bulgogi bowl with a fried egg that came with a dead bug in the yolk. Thankfully the waiter was quick to swap it out, but overall it wasn't the greatest meal. This is your typical spot in Jersey City, Hoboken area. There wasn't anything special about this place which is why I feel like I was disappointed. It will do the trick of grabbing a quick brunch On the weekend however nothing sets this place apart compared to its competitors. Hoboken is a dense area for restaurants and I feel like restaurants have to do extra to keep up with their competitors. Came here for brunch with a few friends. Waitstaff was extremely rude- I asked to substitute the eggs for tofu in a burrito and the waitress simply said no, no explanation or anything. This cafe has quickly become one of my favorite places to grab Brunch at. I've eaten here several times for lunch and brunch already without any disappointment so far. Staff is always very attentive and seat you immediately upon entering. They definitely check up on you during the dining experience just the right amount of times. Pricing is very reasonably priced here as well especially for the quality food they serve. So far for brunch I've eaten my own custom chosen omelette with egg whites, spinach, peppers, onions and goat cheese ($11.25) and a side of mixed berries compote with pancakes ($7.50) which is all delicious. The coffee ($3.00) is also very good here. Never disappointed with my experience at this location. I've also tried the chicken and waffles before and a grilled chicken wrap. I've been in for coffee numerous times, but only recently came in for a full meal. So of course, now it's time to review! Before I get into the 'full meal review' I will say that the coffee here is ace. I always order an iced vanilla coffee and it's always got the perfect amount of sweet and flavor. The menu is traditional cafe fare, think salads, soups, sammies, eggs, wraps, etc. Although they have got a dinner menu, I can only really picture myself coming in for brunch or lunch. I went with a BLT which came served on thick challah bread and had crunchy lettuce, ripe tomatoes and a generous portion of bacon. My mans had the country platter which came with biscuits smothered in gravy and a fried egg. Prices are way more fair than most other brunch spots in the area. The platter was $10 and the sandwich was $8. At a trendy new JC brunch spot it's not uncommon to find these dishes priced at $15-$20. Best part about brunch here? It's BYOB! Grab a bottle of champs, order a glass of OJ and you are all set for a fantastic brunch. So, while the ambiance is not as trendy as other hip new brunch spots in town, Beechwood is a very reliable pick for a classic lunch or brunch. Although the menu was somewhat smaller than others it was actually perfect and I believe there's something for everyone. The food was tasty and the service was good as well. I have be coming here for YEARS. Literally for like 6 years. This place is a decent spot it has so much potential but they are not consistent that's the issue. This is why I have held off on writing a review for so long. I used to go years ago when I lived in Jersey city and it was my go to place. Then they changed the staff, which was fine but their food started to decline. Also they changed their very popular brunch menu which was a huge mistake (IMO). The female server I had today was the second best server I have ever had there! She made me a fresh pot of coffee because the one they had out was too cold which I REALLY appreciated. Onto the food: IN THE PAST: I've had the berry pancakes which are amazing. I've also had the santeFe burrito and the California I think it's called both are good and eggy and very fresh which I love. In the pictures below, the huevos rancheros is amazing when it is made correctly and they are being consistent. Back in the day it was amazing every time. Now you have to ask for the beans to be hot or else they will come out ice cold which is terrible. You can also ask for extra chips which is free. The chicken and waffles are really good and the jalapeño sauce that comes on the side is amazing. The chicken quesadilla (high I had for the first time today) was OK. Personally I think they should serve it with some salsa or sour cream at least (I know guacamole is expensive) rather than chips. The chicken also tasted off and was brown. I don't know if that was from the seasoning or what but it was good I just couldn't trust that chicken 100%. For drinks, this place is BYOB and on the weekends it gets packed. I'm not sure why the reviews are so low this place is a great neighborhood spot. The place across the street is not as good, then again I last went there almost 4 years ago. This is my favorite breakfast spot in Jersey City. Their menu is huge and you can do breakfast, brunch, or lunch throughout most of the day. I'm not able to eat eggs, so the variety is awesome. I actually love the space, a long farm table for family style seating with smaller tables surrounding it. A huge window overlooking Grove St adds to this rustic eatery. The few times I've come for brunch, I've never left amazed or completely satisfied. A little too bland, with food not made from the heart; generic. Yet, why was I paying trendy food prices? I don't mind paying $12-$15 for brunch items, they just need to live up to the standards. I recently went with a curry chicken salad wrap. It was good, very simple, nothing mind blowing. Not a a lot of chicken salad for the $$. The broccoli salad side was good, but again, you could give a lil' bit more for what you're charging me. My most recent visit (ahem, today), I went with one of the Korean dishes: the bim bim bowl. A large bowl filled with veggies and topped with a fried egg; I opted for the $2 additional tofu. It was solid, but lacked flavor and could have used some siracha (only tobasco. It was quite a lot of food, but then again It was $14. The drinks were spot on here . I would come back here for the teas, coffees lattes, etc. alone ! I had a goat cheese quesadilla, and thought it was pretty tasty, but the flavors were fairly mild, so I needed hot sauce. To be fair, I eat a disgusting amount of hot sauce, so my taste buds are probably seared to the point that I can't Taste normal flavors. The lunch food was really good, but not incredible.
