I went in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and got the pulled pork meal. This was perhaps the worst pulled pork I have ever eaten. It was dried out and obviously not fresh. It tasted a little rancid so I doubt that it was made that day. I understand that restaurants may have to sell day old food but I wouldn't have serve this pork to prisoners. The sides, potato chips and macaroni and cheese, were ok but I didn't spend over $17 for sides. I probably will not be going there again given that Smoky Jon's is only a couple miles away from the place. read more

Done with this place. Ate there for the final time last week (early June 2020). The food was delicious as always. Still too expensive. Sides getting smaller. Nothing new there. What irks me is their lack of social responsibility. None of the workers were wearing masks when I walked in. Well, one of them pulled their mask over their face when she saw me walk in with my mask on. Ridiculous. Then they serve everything in plastic. Everything comes in plastic. Plastic everywhere. NO RECYCLING BINS. It's incredible how much plastic was used to give me my dinner, and for them to not have any recycling bins is simply too much for me. This place seems to me to be getting pricey . $3.25 for a piece of cornbread. $7.95 for chocolate key lime pie on a stick - ok, but then the chocolate should not taste burned and bitter. $3.35 for a not really large fountain drink. Very friendly, VERY helpful guy answered our questions about pick-up and gave us a free slice of cornbread because they had been confusion about pick-up details. Pork ribs were overcooked but the brisket and white cheddar mac n cheese were grand. The confusion, by the way was Grubhub's doing, not Beef Butter BBQ's. We didn't even really know we were dealing with Grubhub until I looked much closer at the Yelp screen and realized I had ordered the food through them. I should have gone directly to Beef Butter BBQ's website and saved myself a bunch of money and confusion. I will do that next time. And I feel strongly that the actual source/restaurant you are ordering from should be the first and very obvious choice that Yelp offers for placing an order, instead of a secondary source like Grubhub. So delicious, and nice large, clean seating area with lots of space. Order at the counter / immediate service format is very convenient. Live "pit cams" show the smoking in process - very cool. I'm reviewing the new sit-down restaurant on the corner of Northport and Sherman. Our party of three arrived at 10:00 am and we were the first customers to cross the threshold. We were warmly greeted by the staff and the intoxicating aroma of roasting meat and oak. I had tried the brisket this summer and I couldn't wait to taste it again. Beef butter this is not! Brisket was so dry, we had to ask for extra sauce. We were given an excuse as to why we got a "dryer" portion. Like anyone's ever walked into a restaurant an asked for a dry beef sandwich! Mac n cheese was tasteless and cornbread was dry. Then while eating on their patio you have to contend with a constant barrage of bees swarming around you and your plate. The concensus at our table was overall disappointment. I have to say that I have enjoyed take out here probably seven or eight times. Every time it was good. I enjoyed the fatty brisket, the jalapeño cornbread, and the Apple baked beans. Yesterday I went To BBB to order my typical dinner, drove it home 15 miles away, and man was I disappointed in the meat. Again, I always order the fatty brisket. My carry out container had about five small pieces of brisket in it. One slice was fatty and tasty, the other small slices were as dry and as flavorless as leather. I could not chew them. I must say this dinner was a very expensive disappointment. $16 For small portions of edible beans and cornbread. A good restaurant is consistent with the quality of the food they serve. I've now been burned and will reconsider before I drive that far for more. It's unfortunate. read more

We usually go to another northside Madison BBQ joint but we decided to give BBBBQ a try. I got the RIB TIPS which I was disappointed in. I also got the APPLE BAKED BEANS which were good/sweet and the COLESLAW which was also good/sweet. My wife got the BRISKET which was much better. Thought I prefer a thinner cut. The CORNBREAD and MAC N' CHEESE was also good. The PECAN PIE, however, left something to be desired. The slice was really small and it was just ok. We were all very impressed the brisket was Amazing tender flavorful didn't even need sauce hubby loves sauce so he used it . Ribs were meaty fall off the bone tender pulled pork and chicken were both delicious . Sausage was the only that wasn't 5 star almost seemed it didn't have enough filling kind of chewy casing. Sides were very good the beans were sweeter with the apple hubby thought they were too sweet so he added Frank's red hot solid mac and cheese. Pie was only average but I have high standards. Terrible! Cole slaw it was not. Minced into oblivion. Super Bitter, taste like all core. where is the cabbage at?! terrible dressing, if you can call it that. The potato salad is a joke, lack of flavor. Not enough mustard, pickles, dill, celery, eggs and flavor! I lived in Texas for 40 years! This stuff is barely good enough for Northerners! what a joke! The brisket was not multiple slices as pictured on the website but rather it was shredded, a bit on the dry side, included two large pieces of chunks of fat, and was served as a sandwich on a 4" bun. This place just can't be beat; it's the best BBQ in Madison, hands down. Some of their sauces have some real heat to them. The kind where you don't know if you can keep eating it, but you have to because it is so good. We had them for our 50th Wedding celebration and the food was great. The brisket would melt in your mouth. Everyone said the corn bread was the best they ever had. I tried beef butter for the first time last week! First off I want to say that the food is great, just delicious. I'm really happy to see a new restaurant on the north side, both for my personal convenience, but also because that neighborhood deserves great and diverse restaurants too. A few random thoughts: - My boyfriend and I loved their take out containers for the combos. Microwave safe plastic with separate compartments made it super easy to transport, eat, and reheat. Please keep these forever! A good take out container might sound trivial, but if you eat a lot of take out you will realize what a difference it makes! - The combo menu could maybe use a little clarification, right now they are all under "sandwich meals" though not all are sandwiches. This is not a big deal, but could help make it more clear what the customer is ordering. - I think getting the order flow down would be a good thing, when I got there I wasn't sure if I should tell what sides I wanted to the first person who was serving the meat, or just the people serving the sides, and ultimately had to tell both AND then the cashier. Again not a super big deal, this isn't going to be make or break for anyone, but figuring out the plan for this could make it feel more orderly and more predictable for customers. - Sides are a really nice size in the combo! And meat portions seemed really fair too. -Our typical order for BBQ here was no more than it is at other local BBQ places, maybe even a little less, so pricing is both fair and competitive with other local options. After growing up in the south and spending years with KC BBQ, it's been a struggle living in a state without that food culture. This is some tasty stuff here, with the friendliest staff we've run into in a long time. They offer a choice of lean or not so lean brisket and you can get a mix if you like (or if you don't know which you like!). Partner prefers lean, but the not so lean just about melts in your mouth. Great smoky flavor and their sweet sauce has (for us) a nice hit of spicy (they have spicier options). The sides were ok - between the two of us we tried the fries (seasoned, not our first choice), mashed potatoes and gravy (good but I'll try the potato salad next time) and cornbread (not bad - typical northern sweet style but nice texture and crunchy sides). Will definitely be back when the mood for BBQ hits hard! Oh - and they have a terrific selection of Jarritos flavors in the cooler! read more

I've been here a few times before and the food was good. I went tonight and was not impressed. I got the pulled pork. They hid a lot of fat under the pulled pork meat. When I went to take a bite of my sandwich I noticed it was mostly fat on the bottom half of the sandwich. I'm not paying 13.95 for 1/3 of the meat being fat. The fries have changed and we're so greasy the bag they were put in was soaked with grease. I should not have to come back to the restaurant to replace the food. It should never be served like it was. I don't plan on coming back. It's not worth the prices you're charging. read more
